Following the outrage on social media over the depiction of Hindu Goddess Kaali by a woman film-maker named Leena Manimekalai, the Indian High Commission in Canada has asked the Canadian authorities and event organizers to withdraw all such provocative material.

On 2 July 2022, Leena Manimekalai, allegedly a documentary film-maker, shared on her social media about the release of her recent film ‘Kaali’ at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, Canada.

In the poster shared, the Hindu Goddess is shown smoking a cigarette causing outrage at a time when when killings are being reported over alleged blasphemy of Prophet Mohammad.

The Indian High Commission in Canada, taking cognizance of the derogatory poster has issued a statement about the disrespectful portrayal of the Hindu Goddess urging the authorities to withdraw such provocative material.
