Talk of the Communist parties withdrawing their support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government in Tamil Nadu has reportedly intensified, according to a Junior Vikatan report.
The report claims that Communist leaders have been discussing the possibility of withdrawing support after the upcoming by-election, irrespective of the outcome. It further claims that a decision has already been taken and that approval from the party’s Politburo has been obtained.
According to the report, the TVK leadership has also begun working on its next political move after learning about the alleged decision by the Communist parties.
The report further claims that the TVK’s attention has now turned towards the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), reportedly causing unease among the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), which is currently part of the ruling alliance.

A few days ago, CPI(M) leader P Shanmugam openly campaigned against the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate in the Madurantakam Assembly by-election, despite the Left party continuing to support the TVK government. The CPI(M) contested the by-election with its candidate Sugandhi, amid growing differences between the two parties.
Addressing voters during the campaign, Shanmugam criticised the TVK candidate for resigning from the Assembly shortly after being elected in the previous election and then seeking re-election from the same constituency.
Shanmugam questioned why the TVK candidate had resigned shortly after being elected and then decided to contest the same constituency again, urging voters to question her decision. He criticised her resignation as lacking “limits or ethics” and asked voters to consider whether she should be elected again. He directly appealed to voters to ensure that the TVK candidate does not win the by-election, warning that her victory could encourage elected representatives to resign for political gain and subsequently switch parties. Shanmugam clarified that his criticism was not personal, saying he did not even know the candidate personally. He reiterated his appeal to voters not to endorse the practice of elected representatives resigning shortly after being elected and then seeking re-election.
