Indian fishermen from TN arrested by Sri Lankan Navy return home

On October 13th 2021, 23 fishermen from Nagapattinam were arrested in Sri Lanka for venturing into Sri Lankan waters. The fishermen were in judicial custody for a short period of time, after which the Sri Lankan court ordered their release. They were released from jail on 16th Nov, Monday after efforts taken by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Earlier, L. Murugan, Central Fisheries Minister had said, “We are in touch with the Union External Affairs Minister and complete details of the arrested fishermen have been sought from the Tamil Nadu government.”

Today, TN BJP Chief Annamalai has tweeted about the return of the 23 fishermen back to Chennai, safely. “Due to a small effort taken by the Central government, 18 of our fishermen brothers have returned safely to Chennai,” tweeted Annamalai, in Tamil.

“The other 5 brothers are in quarantine due to COVID,” he added. He also shared photos and shared that TN BJP Fisheries team leader Sathish, personally went to the Airport to receive the 18 fishermen who have returned. Check out the tweet here:
