‘Our Stomachs Burn’: DMK Leader RS Bharathi Fumes As Youth Rally Behind Vijay

The DMK appears to be struggling to come to terms with the electoral rise of actor-turned-politician and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, whose Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) won 108 seats in the 2026 Assembly elections and formed the government, as reported in WebDunia.

The defeat of DMK president and former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in his own Kolathur constituency, at the hands of a TVK candidate, has added to the party’s political setback.

Vijay, who enjoys considerable popularity among children, young people and older audiences owing to his film career, successfully converted that fan following into electoral support. His strong appeal among young voters has emerged as a major political challenge for the DMK.

Vijay, meanwhile, has repeatedly described the DMK as an “evil force” in his political campaigns.

Against this backdrop, DMK organising secretary and senior leader RS Bharathi, who has repeatedly criticised TVK and Chief Minister Vijay, made a revealing remark while addressing a DMK party event yesterday.

Referring to Vijay without naming him, the DMK leader said that someone was claiming he would destroy the DMK and that young people were rallying behind him.

He admitted that seeing this development made the DMK leaders’ “stomachs burn”.

“Someone keeps saying that he will destroy the DMK. Youngsters are all following him. When we see that, our stomachs burn. We have worked so hard to build this movement,” he said.
