A social media page known for its anti-Brahmin and separatist rhetoric has found itself facing a backlash from its own audience after it mocked a video of IIT Madras Director Professor V. Kamakoti speaking at a Hindu spiritual gathering in Chennai.
The controversy erupted after We Dravidians, a social media handle that has previously been reported to have links to the DMK ecosystem, shared a clipping of Kamakoti’s speech from the Dharma Rakshana Mahotsava, held on 4 October 2026, at Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram in Kilpauk, Chennai.
The event brought together Acharyas representing the three major Vedantic traditions: Advaita, Dvaita and Vishishtadvaita on a common stage.
Representing Advaita Vedanta was Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswati Mahaswami of Sri Kanchi Mutt. The Dvaita tradition was represented by Sri Sri Vidyashreesha Tirtha Swamigal of Sri Vyasaraja Mutt, Sosale, while Sri Sri Azhagiyasinga Swamigal of Sri Ahobila Mutt represented Vishishtadvaita.
The gathering was presented as a rare coming together of the three Vedantic traditions, with the Acharyas blessing devotees and emphasising Dharma, Bhakti, cultural preservation and social harmony.
Acharyas of Advaita • Dvaita • Vishishtadvaita
Sharing the Same Stage and Blessing Devotees
A rare and spiritually significant confluence where Acharyas representing three great Vedāntic traditions came together on the same sacred stage, blessing devotees and reflecting the diverse yet harmonious spiritual heritage of Sanātana Dharma.

Kamakoti also participated in the event and delivered a speech.
In his remarks, the IIT Madras Director spoke about the privilege of receiving the blessings of all the Acharyas. He also spoke about the efforts of the Kanchi Acharyas to encourage Hindus, particularly Brahmins, to remain in India and contribute to the country.
His message was essentially that Dharma and Desha go hand in hand, and that people should work towards the development of the nation.
But instead of engaging with the substance of the speech, We Dravidians shared the clipping with the caption: “Average Brahmin Life in Tamil Nadu”

The attempt to mock the IIT Madras Director’s remarks, however, backfired spectacularly.
Even Critics Turn On ‘We Dravidians’
The post triggered a wave of criticism, including from people who have previously leaned towards the Dravidian political ecosystem.
One user, Dr Jason Philip, who was known to be a pro-DMK person, responded: “The Brahmin speaker here exhorts the youth to serve our country, & uphold high morals in life. What is wrong in this?”
He went on to criticise the decades-long demonisation of Tamil Brahmins, arguing that the trend had only recently begun to change.
Another user was even more direct, writing: “Dravidians, aka Telugu vandheris, are the most sick minded and casteist people, always trying to divide Tamils based on caste.”
The user added that “Dravidian rule was ended by Tamilian Vijay in Tamil Nadu.”
Another user, explicitly noting that he was not a Brahmin, defended Kamakoti and praised his work as IIT Madras Director. “Not a brahmin, but this Man single handedly lifting the standards of IIT Madras without corruption…”
The user went on to argue that IIT Madras had, under Kamakoti’s leadership, reached a level where it was overshadowing several older IITs.
in case you missed it
even outspoken D-Stock accounts are now tired of Brahmin hate 🥀 https://t.co/GeTQcKbrzq

The reactions are significant because the backlash was not simply coming from accounts that would ordinarily be expected to defend Brahmins or Hindu institutions.
Even outspoken D-Stock and Dravidian-leaning accounts appeared to be tiring of the constant stream of Brahmin-bashing from handles such as We Dravidians.
Here are some more netizen reactions.

One of the main reasons for the defeat of dmk is this unsolicited , unwanted hatred and venom that they spew on one community . This speech by any standards does not have anything against anybody , yet the poison and abuse is vomited on it. No wonder you guys are beyond redemption.

The Dravidianist Secessionists Behind The Page
The backlash also comes against the backdrop of earlier investigations into We Dravidians and its administrators. We have previously reported on the alleged DMK connections of the handle, as well as the backgrounds and activities of individuals associated with the page.
In one report, we examined the DMK connection to the rabid anti-Hindu, secessionist handle We Dravidians, while another identified Kathir RS as an administrator of the page and documented his alleged anti-Hindu and anti-North Indian positions.
In a subsequent report, we also examined three other administrators associated with the group, including individuals identified as being from different religious and regional backgrounds, and reported that two of them subsequently cut ties with the group following the exposure.
Against this background, the latest episode is revealing for another reason.
What was intended as a jibe at a Brahmin academic and Hindu spiritual gathering instead prompted netizens to question why a speech calling upon youth to serve the country and live by high moral standards was being mocked merely because the speaker was a Brahmin. It is noteworthy that Dr Kamakoti is routinely mocked for his words by the same Dravidianists.
The Dharma Rakshana Mahotsava itself had brought together three distinct Vedantic traditions: Advaita, Dvaita and Vishishtadvaita demonstrating that philosophical differences within Sanatana Dharma need not translate into hostility or division.
Ironically, it was a post attempting to ridicule one community that ended up exposing how tired many social-media users have become of identity-based hate masquerading as political commentary.
