The Madras High Court has warned that it may order the Chengalpattu District Collector to appear in person if a TASMAC liquor shop located in a residential area is not relocated by 14 October 2026, as reported in Tamil News18.
The warning came during the hearing of a petition filed by Kalaivani, a resident of the area, seeking the removal of a TASMAC shop situated in a residential locality on Thimma Rajakulam Road in Chengalpattu district.
Hearing the petition earlier, the High Court had directed the district administration and TASMAC authorities to take immediate steps to remove the shop if it was functioning in a residential area in violation of the applicable rules. The court had also directed the authorities to submit a report confirming the removal of the shop.
When the matter came up for further hearing before Justice N. Senthilkumar, the government informed the court that the District Collector had ordered the relocation of the liquor shop to another location and sought additional time to submit a compliance report.
The judge, however, declined to grant further time. The court warned that if the TASMAC shop was not removed by October 14, it would consider directing the Chengalpattu District Collector to appear personally before the court.
The court subsequently adjourned the hearing while making it clear that compliance with its earlier directions was expected within the stipulated deadline.
