DMK scion Udhayanidhi Stalin has invoked the name of Hindu Goddess Kali to target Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in a politically charged speech at Maduranthakam.
At the rally, Udhayanidhi chanted “Om Kali, Jai Kali” and urged the crowd to respond with “Odu Kali” (Deserter), turning a religious invocation into a political slogan aimed at Vijay.
The remarks came amid a series of political confrontations between the DMK and TVK, with Udhayanidhi attempting to counter the religiously worded slogans previously used by TVK supporters against the ruling party.
Udhayanidhi Turns Religious Chant Into Political Attack
TVK supporters and leaders had previously used the chant “Om Sakthi, Para Sakthi” to target the DMK, portraying the ruling party as a “Theeya Sakthi” (evil force).
Udhayanidhi, who was on the receiving end of the slogan, now appears to have turned the same rhetoric against Vijay. By invoking Goddess Kali’s name and asking supporters to chant “Odu Kali”, he sought to portray the Chief Minister as someone who runs away from responsibility.
The DMK leader also accused Vijay of evading questions over the Karur tragedy, in which 41 people lost their lives. Referring to the incident, he said, “Instead of answering for any of this, he fled, going from there to Chennai, while people and journalists were calling out, asking, “Sir, have 25 people died?” He lacked the mettle to answer. Later, when he landed at Chennai airport, the death toll had risen to 40; there, too, journalists and the public stopped him and asked questions. Did he answer then? He lacked the guts to answer even then. Because of that delay back then, 41 people lost their lives in Karur; today marks exactly one year since that happened. The Chief Minister we have today is the one who ran away (odugali) without a shred of guilt or a conscience. He may have deceived the people to become Chief Minister, but he cannot sleep peacefully for even a single day when he reflects on this. Do you know what he keeps saying, what he has deeply ingrained in people’s minds, wherever he goes over the past two years? He keeps chanting “Om Sakthi, Parasakthi” while berating us. Back then, he was in the opposition, and we were the ruling party; we used to listen to what he said. Now, we have an opportunity. Shall we say it back to him? Shall we? “Om Kali, Jai Kali”, we don’t need to mention his name. Just chant “Om Kali, Jai Kali” and invoke his party’s name. We must keep saying this at every meeting, every campaign rally, and whenever we meet the people. We must imprint this in the people’s minds. Will you do it?”
