DMK faces flak over their inter-caste marriage promise

A recent meeting of the Tamil Nadu Brahmin Association convened recently, and the issue about DMK’s stance on inter-caste marriage was addressed by the Association’s leader. Speaking on this occasion, the Association’s leader Pammal Ramakrishnan said, “The DMK can no longer issue empty promises about creating a casteless Tamil Nadu by selecting candidates on the basis of caste and forming alliances with casteist parties.”

He further went on to say the following: “The DMK, in its election manifesto, said that if an Adithravidar marries a woman from another community, the DMK would give them ₹60,000 and a gold coin of 1 sovereign worth. This move by the DMK is highly worthy of condemnation and we, as the Tamil Nadu’s Brahmin Association strongly oppose this. This is simply a move by the DMK to showcase themselves as a casteless party, while in reality, they are only trying to instigate violence in the name of castes in an otherwise peaceful state.”

He went on to say that the DMK is flouting the election commission’s rules on religion while campaigning and that they didn’t have the nerve to include Christians and Muslims into doing inter-religion marriages during their campaign. He concluded by saying that the Hindus have woken up and asked the DMK not to mess with them.
