Ta Ve Ka Maanadu: Vijay To Target Both DMK And BJP In His Speech Say Reports

Vijay To Target Both DMK And BJP In His Speech Say Reports

Actor Vijay’s Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is holding its first state level public meeting at Vikravandi, near Vizhuppuram, Tamil Nadu. A massive ramp that leads to the stage has been put up from where Vijay will greet the audience.

Speculation is rife about his speech, with reports suggesting that Vijay plans to make a direct attack targeting both the DMK and the BJP, marking a significant departure from the actor’s previously reserved approach to political commentary.

Vijay’s criticisms of the DMK will likely center on the issues of drug and alcohol addiction. With the public meeting venue located just 95 kms away from Kallakurichi where 68 people succumbed to illicit liquor, Vijay is expected to address the rise in addiction rates and possibly challenge the DMK’s management of TASMAC-run liquor outlets, which have faced criticism for their role in the state’s alcohol dependency issues.

In addition to his critique of DMK, Vijay is expected to tackle the New Education Policy (NEP) introduced by the BJP government. The NEP has sparked significant opposition in Tamil Nadu due to its perceived imposition of Hindi and changes to the traditional curriculum. By voicing his disapproval of the NEP, Vijay will only be parroting the rhetoric of DMK and other Dravidianist parties to whip up anti-Centre sentiment.

Adding to the anticipation, News Tamil 24×7 has reported that Vijay may propose three resolutions aimed at critiquing BJP policies. While details of these resolutions remain undisclosed, they are expected to emphasize TVK’s position on issues affecting Tamil Nadu’s autonomy and interests, again mimicking the DMK.

Massive Crowd Throngs Ta Ve Ka’s Public Meeting Venue; Cadres Go Bonkers, Meet With Accidents

Massive Crowd Throngs Ta Ve Ka's Public Meeting Venue

As Tamil superstar-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) was set to hold its public meeting commencing at 4 p.m. on Sunday, cadres and fans started pouring into the venue in Vikkaravandi, Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu. Tamil superstar Suriya extended his wishes to Vijay, whom he calls his “Nanban” (friend). An estimated 2,00,000 people are expected to attend the conference, and the Tamil Nadu Home Department has deployed 6,000 police officers to ensure security.

North Zone Inspector General of Police, Asra Garg, will oversee security operations, with four DIGs and 10 SPs supporting him along with additional personnel. The atmosphere near V Salai, close to Vikravandi, was filled with anticipation as Vijay was expected to announce his party’s agenda and policies at the TVK inaugural state meet.

Reports suggest several film personalities and retired senior bureaucrats would likely join the TVK. The event was set up across an 85-acre area with an additional 207 acres designated for parking.

The main entrance of the public meeting was styled like Chennai’s historic Fort St George, lending grandeur to the event. The venue featured towering cutouts of iconic figures such as B. R. Ambedkar, Periyar E. V. Ramasamy, K. Kamaraj, Velu Nachiyar, Anjalai Ammal, and the kings of Chera, Chola, and Pandya dynasties, along with a massive cutout of Vijay himself.

Two caravans, 18 medical teams with doctors, and 22 ambulances were stationed at the site. Fans and party cadres began arriving as early as Saturday, though media access to the venue has been restricted.

However, there were many untoward incidents before the public meeting.

Two youths from the Tamilagan Vetri Kazhagam in Chennai set out early in the morning on a two-wheeler for the Vikravandi conference, proudly displaying the party flag on their vehicle. Near Teynampet, they reportedly missed a traffic signal and collided with a passing lorry while attempting a turn. The impact of the accident was severe; one of the youths died at the scene, while the other sustained serious injuries and was promptly taken to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai for treatment. The deceased’s body has been sent to Royapettah for a postmortem examination.

At 11:50 p.m., a group of 11 people from Nanmangalam, near Tambaram, set off in a tempo traveler for a conference. Karthik, 25, a resident of Indira Nagar, Nanmangalam, drove the vehicle. On the Tambaram-Velacherry road, while attempting to overtake a lorry, the van lost control and overturned. Nearby bystanders promptly came to their aid, rescuing the occupants and rushing them to the hospital. Thankfully, all 11 passengers sustained only minor injuries.

Although the driver, Karthik, was not seriously injured, he fainted due to the shock of the accident. Pallikaranai Traffic Investigation Division Officers arrived at the scene, cleared the overturned van, and restored traffic flow. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.

The event was set to include cultural programmes, speeches by key party leaders, and a presidential address by Vijay, who was expected to unveil the party’s principles. However, the official event schedule has not been shared with the media till now.

Udayakumar, an IT professional from Madurai, who arrived for the conference, told IANS, “Vijay’s entry into politics is good for Tamil Nadu and its people. He has done careful homework before stepping into politics and is targeting the 2026 Assembly elections. I hope to see him as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.”

Assam CM Blames Congress ‘Goons’ For BJP Worker’s Death In Pre-Poll Violence

Assam CM Blames Congress 'Goons' For BJP Worker's Death In Pre-Poll Violence

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday condoled the death of a BJP worker who reportedly died following a pre-poll violence in the state’s Samaguri assembly constituency. The Chief Minister has held Congress “goons” responsible for the death of BJP worker Bipul Saikia. Chief Minister Sarma took to his X handle, he express his condolences.

He wrote: “My deepest condolences to the family of our @BJP4Assam karyakarta from Samaguri, Late Bipul Saikia, who was violently attacked and killed by goons of @INCAssam.” “Those responsible will be held accountable. This crime is a grim reminder of the Congress’ deception, those who chant ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ are the very ones orchestrating poll violence and undermining democracy. The sacrifice of our karyakartas shall not go in vain,” he added. Saikia received grievous injuries after two groups clashed in Samaguri’s Bajiagaon on Thursday.

He was admitted to a hospital in Nagaon town, where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday. Police have started an investigation into the matter. Five assembly constituencies in Assam will go for bypolls in November. The by-elections on these seats were necessitated after incumbent MLAs won Lok Sabha elections and resigned from their Assembly membership. Out of these five assembly seats, four were held by the BJP and its allies while the Congress held one seat — Samaguri which is a bastion of former state minister Rakibul Hussain.

Hussain has been representing the Samaguri in the Assembly since 2001. He has not lost a single election in the last 23 years. The senior Congress leader contested against AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal in the Dhubri Lok Sabha seat in the parliamentary elections. The seat was held by Ajmal since 2009, however, Hussain pulled a spectacular win in Dhubri by a margin of more than 10 lakh votes. The Congress has fielded Hussain’s son Tanjil Hussain to contest from Samaguri seat in the bypoll. The BJP has been eyeing to oust Congress from Samaguri this time and has deployed its top leaders for the campaigning.

India, Germany Collaborate To Boost Research In Advanced Materials

Underscoring the commitment to foster cutting-edge research that will drive innovation and address global challenges, India and Germany have signed a joint declaration to boost research and development in advanced materials. The exchange was held in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Union Science and Technology Minister Dr Jitendra Singh and German Federal Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger.

Dr Singh highlighted recent collaborative successes, such as the launch of 2+2 joint projects in areas like “Waste to Wealth” and sustainable packaging, as well as a new call for proposals in ‘AI for Sustainability’. The initiatives, along with the Joint Declaration of Intent, will be presented as key outcomes at the upcoming Indo-German Inter-Governmental Consultations led by the Prime Minister of India and the German Chancellor, said the minister.

Dr Singh also hailed the Indo-German Science and Technology Centre (IGSTC) for its instrumental role in promoting joint research, having supported over 50 projects and connected young researchers from both nations. Kerala Official’s Suicide: Complainant Who Levelled Corruption Allegations Suspended From Service

Kerala Official's Suicide: Complainant Who Levelled Corruption Allegations Suspended From Service

The suicide case of Kannur Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu is getting murkier day by day with T.V. Prasanth, who complained to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan against the official’s “corruption”, being suspended from his job at the state-run Kannur Medical College hospital on Saturday.

It was after the ADM committed suicide that a report emerged that Prasanth had complained to CM Vijayan that it was only after he paid a bribe of Rs 98,500 to Babu that he got the final sanction of a petrol pump for which he had applied in Kannur. Prasanth is an electrician at the hospital. Based on a report from the Health Department, he was suspended from service for violating the rule that anyone working for the government cannot engage in business.

Incidentally, the purported reason Naveen Babu took the extreme step was that at a send-off function for him on October 14, following his transfer to his hometown, Pathanamthitta, ahead of his retirement a few months ahead, uninvited CPI-M leader P.P. Divya, who was also the Kannur district panchayat President, launched an attack on him in her speech.

Divya said that a person had approached her to speak to the ADM regarding sanctioning a petrol pump station, which the official had not been clearing despite several requests. “Just two days before, Babu gave the sanction. I know how the sanction was given, and I will reveal all the details in two days,” she said. A few days after the official committed suicide, sparking a massive uproar, the CPI-M asked Divya to quit. The police also registered a case against her and after that, she is on the run.

A court in Kannur has reserved its orders for Tuesday on her pre-arrest bail plea. It has also now surfaced that Prasanth and Divya’s husband are colleagues at the state-run medical college and hospital at Kannur. Questions have also been raised on how an ordinary electrician can set up a petrol pump. Meanwhile, Congress and the BJP are up in arms and claim that Prasanth’s complaint to Vijayan’s office is fake as his name and signature are not his. They have alleged that if a proper probe takes place, it will reach the office of CM Vijayan and the CPI-M headquarters.

Ongoing Hostilities Are To Nobody’s Benefit, Asserts India After Israeli Airstrikes On Iran

Ongoing Hostilities Are To Nobody’s Benefit, Asserts India After Israeli Airstrikes On Iran

On Saturday, India said it remains “deeply concerned” by the evolving escalation and hostilities in West Asia and its ramifications for peace and stability in the region and beyond.

“We reiterate our call to all concerned to exercise restraint and return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy. The ongoing hostilities are to nobody’s benefit, even as innocent hostages and civilian populations continue to suffer,” read a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

“Our Missions in the region are in contact with the Indian community,” it added.

New Delhi’s reaction came after the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced earlier in the day that they had successfully completed “precise and targeted strikes” against multiple military targets in Iran that posed an immediate threat to Israel.

These strikes, conducted in three waves in collaboration with the Israeli Air Force (IAF), took place early Saturday in response to a ballistic missile attack on October 1, revealed IDF spokesman, Brigadier General Daniel Hagar.

“Our message is clear: anyone who threatens the State of Israel and strives to drag the region into a wider escalation will pay a heavy price. We proved today that we have the ability to act decisively, and that we are ready, in attack and defense, to protect the State of Israel and the citizens of Israel,” said Hagar.

He added: “The IDF has fulfilled its mission. Should the Iranian regime make the mistake of initiating a new escalation, we will respond.”

Several countries, including from the Middle East, have called for the earliest possible normalization of the military and political situation in the region while urging all parties involved to prevent the situation from developing into a catastrophic scenario.

Qatar, Jordan, UAE and Saudi Arabia condemned the Israeli airstrikes, expressing deep concern over the continued hostilities and its repercussions on security and stability in the region.

The countries urged all concerned parties to exercise restraint, resolve disputes through dialogue and peaceful means, and avoid anything that could destabilise security and stability in West Asia.

The countries also called on the international community and influential and active parties to carry out their roles and responsibilities towards reducing escalation and ending regional conflicts.

“The Kingdom affirms its unwavering position in its rejection of the continued escalation in the region and the expansion of the conflict that threatens the security and stability of the countries and people of the region.

The Kingdom urges all parties to exercise the utmost restraint and reduce escalation and warns of the consequences of continuing military conflicts in the region,” said the Saudi Arabian foreign ministry.

Amid the unabated hoax bomb threats to airlines via global Internet platforms, the Centre on Saturday directed social media intermediaries like Elon Musk-headed X and Meta to ensure due diligence and promptly remove misinformation that affects public order and security of the state. In an advisory, the IT Ministry said such hoax bomb threats are mostly misinformation that is massively disrupting the public order, operations of airlines and security of airline travellers. Indian airlines have received more than 100 hoax bomb threats in a few days, forcing delays and emergency landings.

“Considering the serious nature of the situation, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology reminds with emphasis that all the intermediaries including social media intermediaries must make reasonable efforts to disallow such malicious acts including hoax bomb threats from being disseminated on their platforms,” read the advisory. The advisory further stated that the intermediaries including social media intermediaries must observe their due diligence obligations that include the prompt removal or disabling access to such unlawful information specified under the IT Rules, 2021, including hoax bomb threats, well within the strict timelines as prescribed under the IT Rules, 2021.

Apart from removing or disabling access to such misinformation under the IT Rules, 2021 as part of the reasonable efforts to be undertaken, “there is an additional liability on concerned intermediaries under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS) to mandatorily report certain offences perceived to be committed by any user of their platform that includes, among others, any act with the intent to threaten or likely to threaten the unity, integrity, sovereignty, security, or economic security of India”. Amid a surge in hoax bomb threats, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has expressed serious concern, saying the government is committed to taking strict action against those responsible for these malicious acts. On Friday, over 20 flights of various airlines reportedly received bomb threats.

“Considering the serious nature of the situation, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology reminds with emphasis that all the intermediaries including social media intermediaries must make reasonable efforts to disallow such malicious acts including hoax bomb threats from being disseminated on their platforms,” the IT Ministry said.
