A functionary of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Lawyers’ Wing was arrested for allegedly assaulting a head constable outside the court complex in Tiruvarur, as reported in Hindu Tamil.
The accused, identified as Rajesh, 34, is the district deputy organiser of the TVK Lawyers’ Wing in Tiruvarur.
According to the police, Rajesh had gone to the Tiruvarur court complex on his two-wheeler on Wednesday. While he was attempting to park his motorcycle near the police vehicle parking area, he noticed a dead dog lying near the police jeep and asked Head Constable Vinoth, who was seated inside the vehicle, to have it removed.
Vinoth reportedly told him that removing the dead dog was not his responsibility. This led to an argument between the two.
People present at the spot intervened and pacified both of them, following which they left the area.
However, police said Rajesh later followed Vinoth when he came out of the court complex and allegedly assaulted him.
Based on a complaint lodged by Vinoth, the Tiruvarur Taluk Police registered a case and arrested Rajesh on Wednesday (12 August 2026) night.
He was subsequently produced before a magistrate and was remanded in judicial custody. He was lodged in the Nannilam sub-jail in the early hours of Thursday, 13 August 2026.
