In a deeply shocking incident, an 8-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by an unidentified man near Thenkanikottai in Krishnagiri district on her way back from school, as reported in Vikatan.
The victim, a fourth-standard student, was walking home alone after school when the accused waylaid her. According to police reports, the man covered her mouth and eyes, forcibly carried her to a nearby thicket, and committed the heinous act. He fled the spot, leaving the traumatized child behind.
The little girl managed to reach her home in a distressed state and narrated the ordeal to her parents. They immediately rushed her to the All-Women Police Station in Thenkanikottai and lodged a formal complaint.
Following the complaint, the girl was shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Krishnagiri via ambulance for medical examination and treatment. Hospital sources said she is currently under observation.
The Thenkanikottai All-Women Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and have launched a massive manhunt to track down the absconding accused. Police have also begun questioning local residents and checking CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the culprit.
