NGO Watchdog Files Complaint Against Sri Venkateswara University Prof For Allegedly Misusing SC Certificate To Secure Govt Job Despite Being Christian

NGO Watchdog Files Complaint Against Sri Venkateswara University Prof For Allegedly Misusing SC Certificate To Secure Govt Job Despite Being Christian

The Legal Rights Protection Forum has filed a formal complaint with the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, alleging that Dr. Ch. Chengaiah, a professor at Sri Venkateswara University (SVU), Tirupati, misused a Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate. The complaint demands Dr. Chengaiah’s immediate termination from university services, citing constitutional violations and misuse of his position.

The complaint outlines that Dr Chengaiah, previously Head of the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) and Dean (SCDC) at SVU, was removed from his administrative role following an investigation by a High-Power Committee. The committee, chaired by the university’s Vice-Chancellor and Registrar, found him guilty of misconduct, including harassment of women and alleged promotion of Christianity among students. These findings were based on a Fact-Finding Committee report submitted to the university.

During the inquiry, Dr Chengaiah reportedly admitted to being a Christian and acknowledged encouraging Christian teaching in the classroom. The complaint highlights that according to Paragraph 3 of the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950, individuals practicing religions other than Hinduism are not eligible for Scheduled Caste status.

The Supreme Court of India recently reinforced this principle in its judgment in the C. Selvarani vs. The Special Secretary-cum-District Collector & Others (SLP No. 6728 of 2023) case, ruling that individuals converting to other religions cannot claim SC status for reservations.

The Legal Rights Protection Forum has alleged that Dr Chengaiah unlawfully obtained an SC certificate to secure a government position at Sri Venkateswara University under the SC quota, describing this as fraudulent and detrimental to the rights of genuine SC community members.

The complaint urges the Governor to intervene and take immediate action, including dismissing the professor from the university.

Biomedical Waste & Confidential Patient Records From Kerala Illegally Dumped In Tamil Nadu Villages

Biomedical Waste & Confidential Patient Records From Kerala Illegally Dumped In Tamil Nadu Villages.

Large volumes of biomedical, food, and plastic waste, reportedly from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) and Credence Private Hospital, have been found dumped across multiple Kodaganallur and Palavoor villages. The waste includes hazardous biomedical materials, such as used syringes and PPE kits, discarded on patta lands and waterbodies, causing significant health and environmental concerns.

As reported by TNIE, the dumping, which has been ongoing for several months, allegedly occurs during the night, making it difficult to apprehend those responsible. Trucks believed to be transporting loads for a nearby paper mill are suspected of bringing in the waste. Despite complaints by affected landowners, authorities have taken little action, and the issue remains unresolved.

Medical records containing sensitive personal information of cancer patients treated at the RCC were also found among the waste. Documents included patient names, addresses, treatment details, diagnoses, and dietary plans. Several of these records appeared to be recent, with dates from November 2024. The discovery of such documents not only highlights improper waste disposal practices but also raises concerns about a serious data breach.

The illegal dumping has had a direct impact on the local environment and livelihoods. Contaminated water sources near the dumping sites have led to health issues among livestock, including cattle and goats. Local farmers and residents are increasingly concerned about the long-term effects of biomedical waste exposure on their health and the surrounding ecosystem.

The issue has been brought to the attention of various authorities, including the Suthamalli police and the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Special Cell. Complaints were filed over a month ago, but no case has been registered to date. Residents have alleged negligence on the part of both the police and revenue officials, as neither group has visited the affected sites despite repeated requests.

CCTV cameras near strategic locations, such as a Tasmac outlet, a paper mill, and a quarry, could potentially identify the trucks involved, but no effort has been made to trace the vehicles. Waste has reportedly been dumped across five locations spanning 40 acres of land.

The District Collector has directed local officials and the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) to investigate the matter and take legal action. The Tirunelveli Superintendent of Police has stated that an FIR is expected to be registered soon to address the complaints.

The incident has raised several pressing questions about waste management practices and accountability. Concerns include the effectiveness of border check posts, the role of authorities in preventing such illegal activities, and the absence of coordination between Tamil Nadu and Kerala to address the issue. The lack of response from opposition parties has also drawn criticism.

Local residents and activists are demanding that the illegally dumped waste be sent back to Kerala and that stringent measures be implemented to prevent further transportation of hazardous materials into Tamil Nadu. The discovery of both hazardous waste and confidential medical records has highlighted severe lapses in governance, data security, and public health safeguards.

Al Ummah Terrorist SA Basha Who Masterminded 1998 Coimbatore Blasts Dead

Al Ummah Terrorist SA Basha Who Masterminded 1998 Coimbatore Blasts Dead

SA Basha, the mastermind behind the 1998 Coimbatore serial bomb blasts, passed away on December 16, 2024, at 6:20 PM due to age-related ailments. Basha, who founded the extremist organization Al-Ummah, was responsible for planning the devastating blasts that killed 58 people and injured 231 others.

The Coimbatore serial bomb blasts of 1998 (DMK was in power in then) were a grievous incident in which 58 people were killed and over 200 individuals sustained serious injuries. This devastating series of 12 bomb attacks unfolded across 11 different locations within a 12-kilometer radius. Many of the survivors continue to grapple with the long-lasting effects of the shrapnel and other injuries caused by the devastating explosions.

The chief orchestrator behind these tragic events was identified as S. A. Basha, the founder of Al Ummah, an Islamic fundamentalist group. Investigations revealed that these bombings were part of a larger conspiracy with the sinister aim of targeting L.K. Advani, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, during his election meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. on that ill-fated day. Fortunately, Advani’s flight was delayed, and he narrowly escaped the horrors of that day.

It is noteworthy to mention that one of the suspects, Mohammed Dhalka, who was detained in connection to the 2022 Coimbatore car blast terror incident is the nephew of SA Basha. Nawab Khan, Basha’s brother, was also sentenced to one-life term and 27 years of rigorous imprisonment in the 1998 bomb blast case.

The president of the banned fundamentalist outfit Al-Umma, SA Basha, openly threatened to kill the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi if he visited Coimbatore in July 2003. This threat was made by Basha and eight others while speaking to journalists in the Coimbatore court premises after their conviction and life imprisonment in a case related to the murder of a Hindu Munnani leader. It is noteworthy that Al-Umma and its leader were allowed to operate openly by the DMK Government until the Coimbatore blasts on 14 February 1998.

Magazines like Outlook and Frontline also acknowledged the role of the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TNMMK) in these blasts. In March 1998, Frontline reported, “Within hours of the blasts, the Tamil Nadu Government banned Al-Umma and the Jihad Committee. Al-Umma founder-president S.A. Basha and 12 other members of the organization were arrested in Chennai; explosive materials and weapons were seized from his house in Triplicane, Chennai.”

“Don’t Believe Fabricated Stories And Rumours”: Ilaiayaraaja Busts Nefarious Anti-Hindu Propaganda By Dravidianist Media

Ilaiayaraaja Busts Nefarious Anti-Hindu Propaganda By Dravidianist Media on his temple visit.

Renowned musician and Rajya Sabha MP Ilaiyaraaja has dismissed allegations that he was removed from the Srivilliputhur Andal Temple, calling the claims false and attacking his self-respect. The statement came after claims surfaced that he had been removed from the temple’s Artha Mandapam.

Addressing the allegations over his recent temple visit, Ilaiyaraaja remarked, “Certain individuals are circulating false rumours about me. I do not compromise on self-respect at any time or place, and I never will. They have spread fabricated stories as though they occurred. Fans and the public should not believe these rumors.”

Right from the beginning of the day, the Dravidian media and Dravidianists on social media were relentlessly amplifying news involving music Maestro Ilaiyaraaja, sparking widespread discussion. Critics alleged that this is a typical strategy employed by the DMK to deflect significant criticism to other important issues and hoodwink the public. It turned out that the rumours were fabricated and allegedly intended to divert public attention away from issues that reflect poorly on the ruling DMK’s administration.

Let’s examine how the Dravidianist media peddled lies in the name of reporting “news.”

Sun News

The worst propaganda was peddled by the ‘Sun News’, owned by the DMK first family, which took its storytelling to another level by shamelessly promoting a narrative to paint Hindus, especially Brahmins and the seers, in a negative light. This extreme step represented the height of propaganda, aligning with the Dravidian ideology to ridicule Hindu customs and paint caste discrimination. They repeatedly claimed that Ilaiyaraaja was asked to leave the temple garba gruha (sanctum sanctorum) when he hadn’t even entered it.

https://twitter.com/sunnewstamil/status/1868485177141571786

Puthiya Thalaimurai News

Puthiya Thalaimurai also followed the lead of the “parent” Dravidianist media and claimed that Ilaiyaraja was “denied” entry into the garbagruha. Despite the video showing that the maestro had not even stepped in, they had already started building the narrative that when he “entered”, he was asked to leave!

News 18 Tamil Nadu

News 18 Tamil Nadu went one step further and claimed that he was not only denied entry into the garbagruha but also the Artha Mandapam!

News7

News7 kept it very simple and straightforward and peddled the same anti-Hindu and anti-Brahmin propaganda that he was denied entry – it did not mention where exactly. So, if people who were not aware of the news could possibly assume that he was denied entry into the temple itself!

The Dravidianist media’s relentless propagation of falsehoods surrounding Ilaiyaraaja’s visit to the Srivilliputhur Andal Temple reflects a deliberate attempt to distract from real issues and to deflect attention away from the shortcomings of the ruling DMK. By twisting facts and fabricating narratives, media outlets like Sun News, Puthiya Thalaimurai, News 18 Tamil Nadu, and News7 have not only misrepresented the truth but have also furthered an agenda of division, painting Hindu customs and Brahmins in a negative light.

This manipulation is a glaring example of how the media can be weaponized to serve political interests rather than report truthfully. Ilaiyaraaja’s dignified response in defending his honour and self-respect is a sharp rebuttal to the baseless accusations spread by these outlets, exposing their intentions to mislead the public.

“TM Krishna Cannot Be Recognized As Recipient Of Sangita Kalanidhi MS Subbulakshmi Award”, Interim Order Issued By Supreme Court

"TM Krishna Cannot Be Recognized As Recipient Of Sangita Kalanidhi MS Subbulakshmi Award", Interim Order Issued By Supreme Court

On 16 December 2024, the Supreme Court issued an interim order that Carnatic musician TM Krishna should not be recognized as the recipient of the Sangita Kalanidhi MS Subbulakshmi Award, which was conferred upon him by the Music Academy in Chennai the day before. The Court also restrained Krishna from projecting himself as the recipient of the award in the name of MS Subbulakshmi.

The Court’s decision followed a petition filed by the grandson of Bharat Ratna MS Subbulakshmi, challenging the interim order issued by the Madras High Court’s division bench. The High Court had allowed the Music Academy to confer the prestigious award to TM Krishna, but the petition argued that Krishna had made disrespectful comments regarding MS Subbulakshmi in the past.

A bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice SVN Bhatti, which heard the matter, observed, “The Court is mindful of the respect and honour that MS Subbulakshmi commands across the all spectrum. She is one of the most distinguished singers and although she passed away in December 2004, her melodious voice continues to bring great joy to all her fans.”

However, the bench noted that while the comments made by TM Krishna may have been his way of conveying respect, the words he used were deemed inappropriate. “At the same time, while the write-ups and the comments made by defendant no.4 (TM Krishna) are his way of conveying his respect for the singer, the plaintiff certainly feels that the words used by defendant no.4, to say the least, are not in good taste,” the Court stated.

As a result, the bench ruled that the award should not be recognized in Krishna’s name and that he should refrain from projecting himself as its recipient. “As the award has been already awarded on 15.12.2024, we deem it appropriate to say that defendant no.4 (TM Krishna) should not be recognised as a recipient of the Sangita Kalanidhi MS Subbulakshmi Award and is also restrained from projecting himself as a recipient of the Sangita Kalanidhi MS Subbulakshmi Award,” the order stated.

The Court also made it clear that its interim order should not be interpreted as a reflection on the Music Academy or The Hindu Group, who sponsors the award. “It must be made clear that the Music Academy has a glorious legacy, particularly in their contribution to the music. Same is also the reputation of The Hindu Group who have sponsored the award. This interim order should not be seen as a reflection either on the Music Academy or the Hindu Group. This order should not also be seen as a reflection of the Court’s comment on the singing abilities of defendant no.4,” the order read.

The controversy arose over Krishna’s past writings, where he had referred to MS Subbulakshmi in derogatory terms. According to Additional Solicitor General N Venkataraman, who represented the petitioner, Krishna made several “nauseating” and “misogynistic” comments about Subbulakshmi. Venkataraman argued, “It is akin to giving an award in the name of Mahatma Gandhi to a person who insults him,” asserting that it would be contrary to constitutional morals to grant an award in the name of a respected figure to someone who had insulted them.

In his petition, Venkataraman referred to articles written by Krishna in which he called Subbulakshmi “the greatest hoax of the twentieth century,” “diva,” and a “saintly Barbie doll.” He also pointed out that Krishna had failed to provide any justification for these comments when given the opportunity by the Madras High Court. “He had opportunity to explain what he said in 2015 before Madras HC. But he did not. He rather added fuel to fire,” Justice Bhatti observed during the hearing.

The legal arguments centered around whether the Music Academy and The Hindu Group had acted within their rights to confer the award, given the ongoing legal challenge. Senior Advocate CS Vaidyanathan, representing the Music Academy, argued that the matter had become infructuous as the award had already been conferred upon Krishna. However, Venkataraman insisted that the matter was not resolved yet, referencing an oral remark made by the Chief Justice of India, who had suggested that the Court could order the award be taken back if the challenge was found to be valid.

The case also raised procedural questions regarding the injunction orders. Venkataraman contended that the injunction against the conferment of the award was still valid, as the Music Academy had failed to challenge the injunction properly. “Initially, a single bench of the High Court passed an interim injunction against the conferment of the award. The Music Academy did not file any appeal against the interim injunction order; rather, they filed an appeal against the order refusing to reject the plaint,” Venkataraman argued.

The bench also pointed out that the Music Academy had not filed an appeal against the injunction, and Justice Bhatti noted that the injunction against them remained in effect. “As per the Civil Procedure Code, each party has to file a separate appeal, and when the Music Academy has not challenged the injunction order, it cannot claim the benefit of the vacation of the interim order,” Justice Bhatti observed.

Justice Bhatti further stated that until the issue was resolved in court, TM Krishna should not be allowed to use MS Subbulakshmi’s name in relation to the award. “Till we are clear, awardee cannot have the award in the name of person who he is stated to have disrespected,” the Justice said.

Senior Advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, who represented TM Krishna, opposed the suggestion, asserting that Krishna was the “greatest fan of Subbulakshmi.” Sankaranarayanan also defended Krishna’s comments, claiming that they were an attempt to dismantle the “hagiographic myth” surrounding Subbulakshmi. “Krishna was the ‘greatest fan of Subbulakshmi’ and stood by every word he has written and claimed that the article was an attempt to bust the ‘hagiographic myth’ about Subbulakshmi,” Sankaranarayanan stated.

Vaidyanathan, representing the Music Academy, also expressed that there was nothing problematic with Krishna’s writings. However, Justice Roy commented, “Maybe there was an issue of choice of words (by TM Krishna).”

The Supreme Court’s interim order will remain in effect until the pending lawsuit regarding Krishna’s recognition as the award recipient is resolved.

Residents In Cuddalore and Villupuram Protest Over Unpaid ₹2,000 Flood Relief After Cyclone Fengal

Residents In Cuddalore and Villupuram Protest Over Unpaid ₹2,000 Flood Relief After Cyclone Fengal

On 16 December 2024, residents from over 14 villages in Cuddalore and Viluppuram districts staged protests and road blockades, expressing their frustration over not receiving the promised flood relief of 2,000. A promised relief that the Tamil Nadu government announced as a relief package for affected family based on their ration cards.

Cyclone Fengal caused widespread destruction across Tamil Nadu, severely impacting districts such as Villupuram and Cuddalore. The heavy rains claimed at least 14 lives across these areas, including six in Vikravandi, two in Thiruvennainallur, five in Villupuram, and one in Vanur. Thiruvennainallur taluk, particularly the villages of Yemappur, Arakandanallur, and Devanur, faced extensive damage, with homes, roads, electric poles, livestock, and agricultural fields all suffering significant destruction.

In response, residents from villages like Omandur, Uppuvelur, Kiliyanur, Vadasiruvalur, and Athanapattu in Villupuram district staged a road blockade on the Tindivanam-Puducherry road, resulting in a traffic jam that lasted for over an hour. Police intervened, assured the protesters that flood relief would be provided, and the blockade was eventually called off.

In Cuddalore, a large group of women gathered in Sanniyasipettai to demand the promised flood relief. When the protesters refused to disperse, police forcibly detained them. Some were confined to a nearby wedding hall, while others were dragged into police vehicles, causing an uproar in the area.

At the same time, residents in Cuddalore staged a protest at the Collectorate, demanding urgent measures to strengthen the banks of the Thenpennai River to prevent future flooding. The situation grew tense when police attempted to stop them, leading to a heated confrontation.

Firm Linked To Drug Lord And Expelled DMK Man Jaffer Sadiq Supplied Geometry Box & School Bags To TN Text Book Corporation Contractor Using Money From Drug Sales, BJP Demands Explanation

Annamalai, DMK Education Minister Anbil Mahesh, Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation, Jaffer Sadiq

Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai has demanded an explanation from DMK Minister Anbil Mahesh regarding allegations uncovered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) linking the Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation to money laundering operations by Coalescence Ventures, a firm owned by former DMK NRI Wing President and international drug trafficker Jaffer Sadiq.

The ED probe has revealed that proceeds from Sadiq’s narcotics trafficking were funnelled through the corporation via fraudulent business deals, raising serious questions about the involvement of state entities in financial crimes.

The BJP state chief called on Mahesh to address the allegations linking former DMK NRI Wing President and international drug trafficker Jaffer Sadiq’s company, Coalescence Ventures, to money laundering activities involving the Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation, as revealed by the Enforcement Directorate.

In a post on his official X account, K. Annamalai stated, “The Enforcement Directorate’s investigation has exposed that international drug trafficking kingpin and DMK leader Jaffer Sadiq used the Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation to launder money from drug sales. It has come to light that Sadiq’s company, Coalescence Ventures, entered into an agreement with Sri Appu Direct, a contractor for the Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation, and supplied goods. The investigation also revealed that Sadiq invested proceeds from drug sales into Coalescence Ventures between 2022 and 2023. Notably, Sri Appu Direct had a contract with the Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation during the same period, with goods supplied by Sadiq’s company. This indicates that the Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation indirectly facilitated the laundering of money linked to drug trafficking. I call on the Minister of School Education, Mr. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, to explain this.”

The ED investigation has revealed that one of Jaffer Sadiq’s 21 businesses, which allegedly funnelled proceeds from international drug trafficking, supplied geometry boxes and school bags to a contractor of the Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation.

Jaffer Sadiq, a former DMK functionary expelled for his involvement in trafficking controlled substances like pseudoephedrine and ketamine to Australia, New Zealand, and Malaysia, is facing trial for his role in these operations and the significant wealth he amassed through them. Recently, the ED filed a chargesheet against Sadiq and 11 other individuals, including his brother Saleem and several associates, before a special court in Chennai.

According to sources, Coalescence Ventures, a partnership firm founded by Sadiq and his business partner S. Ramesh in December 2020, procured goods from a Noida-based company, Matrix, and sold them to Sri Appu Direct, a contractor for the Tamil Nadu Text Book Corporation located in Cuddalore. While Sri Appu Direct has not been charged as an accused, further investigations by the ED uncovered evidence of the company’s officials allegedly bribing high-ranking officials in the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry governments. Attempts to contact the firm for comment were unsuccessful.

Reports indicate that Sadiq invested Rs. 40 lakh in cash and contributed between Rs. 1-1.5 crore to Ramesh for Coalescence Ventures between December 2022 and January 2023, with the funds believed to have originated from his narcotics trafficking activities. The profit-sharing agreement was reportedly set at 51:49 in favor of Sadiq.

The sale of goods to Sri Appu Direct was routed through Green Cosmic Infra, a shell company owned by Ramesh. This circular transaction—goods moving from Matrix to Coalescence, then to Green Cosmic Infra, and finally to Sri Appu Direct—has been identified as a method to launder the illicit proceeds of crime, according to ED investigators.

Further analysis revealed that while Ramesh managed Coalescence’s day-to-day operations, the firm’s bank account was opened and controlled by Sadiq’s brother Saleem, who also received all one-time passwords (OTPs) and other transaction details on his phone.

Additionally, Ramesh has been linked by both the ED and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to attempts to recruit individuals to manage Sadiq’s operations in Australia. ED’s investigation revealed that a portion of Ramesh’s investment, approximately Rs. 15 lakh, was transferred to his account by Suresh Mohan, one of the individuals Sadiq attempted to send to New Zealand to oversee his drug trafficking activities there.

Madras High Court Demands Answers From TN Govt Over Corruption In State Offices

Madras HC increased security in court campus after country bombs were exchanged among suspects in the Armstrong murder case. Christian shrine

The Madras High Court has raised serious questions regarding the Tamil Nadu government’s stance on corruption and irregularities in state offices. The issue came to light after a petition filed by Kokila from Puducherry, whose husband is an inmate at Puzhal Prison. Kokila alleged that her husband had not received his prison wages for the past four months.

During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel submitted media reports highlighting a Central Audit Department finding about corruption worth ₹14 crore in the sale of products made by prison inmates in Tamil Nadu. Taking note of the seriousness of the allegations, the court had earlier directed the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) to submit a report on the actions taken in this regard. The case was then adjourned to 16 December 2024.

When the matter was heard again by a bench comprising Justices S.M. Subramaniam and M. Jothiraman, the Additional Public Prosecutor R. Muniyapparaj submitted a report. The report revealed that while the Central Audit Department had flagged irregularities as early as September 2022, a First Information Report (FIR) was only registered on 13 December 2024. The court questioned the delay in initiating action despite the audit findings.

The bench further inquired about the Tamil Nadu government’s stance on addressing corruption in state offices. The judges pressed the government to clarify whether it takes such allegations seriously and emphasized that officials guilty of wrongdoing should not be allowed to retire with full benefits. Strong actions should be taken against such individuals, the court insisted.

In response, the Additional Public Prosecutor assured the court that the government treats corruption complaints with utmost seriousness. He explained that the delay was due to preliminary investigations conducted after the 2022 audit report, leading to the recent registration of the FIR.

Following this, the bench directed the Tamil Nadu Home Secretary to submit a detailed report on the matter and adjourned the hearing to 6 January 2025.
