DMK Official Accused Of Recording, Blackmailing Nurse; TN BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan Demands CM Stalin’s Response After Victim’s Suicide Attempt

DMK Official Accused Of Recording, Blackmailing Nurse; TN BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan Demands CM Stalin's Response After Victim's Suicide Attempt

A deeply troubling incident has sent shockwaves through Tamil Nadu, where a DMK official has been accused of secretly recording a video of a nurse changing clothes at a government hospital. The accused allegedly blackmailed the nurse’s family, demanding ₹10 lakh to prevent the video’s release online. Despite the family lodging a complaint with the police two weeks ago, no action has been taken. The lack of response reportedly pushed the nurse to attempt suicide by consuming sleeping pills.

The victim, identified as Merila Baby, working as a nurse in Avudaiyar Kovil Government Hospital in Pudukkottai. The accused, Bharathiraja, serves as the secretary of the Pudukkottai South District Environment Wing of the ruling DMK party. He allegedly threatened the victim and her husband at their home, stating that he would upload the compromising video of her changing clothes to social media if his monetary demands were not met.

The nurse’s family had filed complaints with both the District Superintendent of Police and the District Collector in Pudukkottai 13 days ago, but no significant action has been taken. According to the family, police have been reluctant to register a case against Bharathiraja due to his political connections within the DMK.

The delay in addressing the complaint caused immense mental distress to the victim, who attempted suicide a few days ago. She is currently undergoing treatment at the Aranthangi Government Hospital.

Outraged by the incident and the lack of justice, the victim’s relatives and friends organized a road blockade on the Aranthangi-Avudaiyar Kovil road to protest. However, the police intervened, detaining the protesters at the Avudaiyar Kovil police station, citing the illegality of the blockade. The incident has plunged the Avudaiyar Kovil area into a state of unrest and heightened tensions.

In response to the incident, Coimbatore South MLA and BJP Mahila Morcha President Vanathi Srinivasan issued a strong condemnation through her official account on X. She stated, “Ra. Bharathiraja, the deputy organizer of the Pudukkottai district environmental wing of @arivalayam, has threatened a nurse at the Avudaiyarkovil government hospital by recording a compromising video and demanding ₹10 lakh. Despite the nurse filing complaints with the Avudaiyarkovil police station and the Pudukkottai district superintendent of police, no action was taken for eight days. On 21 December, the nurse attempted suicide and is now in the ICU.”

She further posed a series of critical questions to Chief Minister MK Stalin, stating, “Some questions for the Chief Minister, Mr. @mkstalin, as a fellow woman, beyond party differences. From the misconduct with a female police officer at a public DMK meeting, the sexual assault of a young woman in Thanjavur, the assault on an Anna University student, and a nurse being threatened. Why are so many members involving in crimes against women are from DMK?”

While many innocent women are hesitant to file a complaint about the cruelty they suffered, why are the details of the woman who filed the complaint made public and no action is being taken for several days after filing the complaint, further traumatizing the victimized women? Why is your government’s focus on protecting DMK cadres involved in crimes than towards the women victims? When will the safety of women become more important than the honor of @arivalayam in your government? Realize your responsibility by seeing the women who are affected by the inaction of your government and the criminal activities of your party members! At least stop the irregular activities of your party and create a safe society for women!” She added.

DMK IT Wing Makes Meme Of BJP Leader Annamalai’s Self Flagellation Protest Against Stalin Govt’s Handling Of Anna University Sexual Assault Case

DMK IT Wing Makes Meme Of BJP Leader Annamalai's Self Flagellation Protest Against Stalin Govt's Handling Of Anna University Sexual Assault Case

Amidst the Anna University sexual assault case, Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai made a scathing critique of the DMK government with a self-flagellation protest, condemning its failure to maintain law and order, which has deteriorated to the extent that unscrupulous elements within its party are now brazenly trespassing into college campuses in Chennai to threaten and sexually harass students. Despite the gravity of the issue, the DMK IT wing shamelessly mocked Annamalai for his statement about symbolically whipping himself six times in front of his house on Friday as a protest against the government’s mishandling of the sexual harassment case.

This reflects the disheartening mentality of a party that claims to champion women’s rights and protection. Such actions expose the regressive policies they uphold, which, in turn, risk pushing women back into restrictive roles. This is evident from the aftermath of the incident, where Anna University hostel administration imposed a curfew requiring women to return to their hostels by 6:30 PM, signaling a troubling shift toward limiting women’s freedoms rather than addressing the root issues.

The DMK IT wing, through its official X account, mocked BJP President K. Annamalai by indirectly referencing him with a goat emoji and sharing a comedic video clip from Tamil actor Goundamani, depicting a scene of begging for alms whipping himself.

What Did TN BJP Chief Annamalai Speak?

TN BJP President K. Annamalai announced on 26 December 2024, that he would refrain from wearing footwear starting 27 December, until the DMK government is removed from power. Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, he expressed his intention to whip himself six times in front of his house as a protest against the police’s mishandling of the Anna University sexual harassment case.

Annamalai strongly criticized the state police for leaking the victim’s personal details, including her name and phone number, from the FIR. He questioned how the FIR was made public and accused both the police and the DMK of shaming the victim by revealing her identity. He also raised concerns over the lack of security at Anna University, asking where the Nirbhaya Fund had gone and why there were no CCTV cameras on campus.

He took a swipe at Law Minister S. Regupathy, who claimed the state had been peaceful for three months but was disturbed after Annamalai’s return from London. Annamalai expressed his frustration with this kind of politics and vowed to end the “dirty politics” in Tamil Nadu. He said that instead of public protests, BJP cadres would now protest in front of their homes due to the arrests that typically followed public gatherings.

Annamalai further stated that he would fast for 48 days and visit the six Arupadai Veedu (Lord Muruga’s six abodes) in February to raise his concerns about the situation in Tamil Nadu. He emphasized that his political actions would mirror the behavior of the DMK leaders, criticizing the lack of safety for women in the state.

He also called for the removal of the Chennai city police commissioner or at least the dismissal of the deputy commissioner over the mishandling of the Anna University case. Annamalai urged the middle class to join the movement to remove the “evil force” (DMK) from power.

“North-South, My Hair” Annamalai Launches Scathing Attack On DMK Over Anna University Sexual Harassment Case, Slams Mishandling And Divisive Politics

BJP TN Chief Annamalai Slams DMK Govt For Leaking Victim's Identity In Anna University Sexual Assault Case Involving Alleged DMK Functionary

Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai lambasted the DMK for focussing on divisive politics, stating, “If you ask, Tamil Nadu is this or that—North and South—my hair!” in Coimbatore at a press conference condemning the handling of the Anna University sexual harassment case, involving an alleged DMK functionary who assaulted a female student on campus. Annamalai accused the DMK of shielding the accused due to his political connections and criticized the police for leaking the victim’s personal details in the FIR, calling the mishandling shameless and condemnable.

The incident involved an alleged DMK functionary who trespassed into the campus and assaulted a female student. Annamalai criticized the DMK government and the police department for their mishandling of the case, including the public disclosure of the victim’s details through a leaked FIR, calling their actions shameless and condemnable.

On 26 December 2024, during a press meet in Coimbatore, Annamalai criticized the DMK, stating, “The accused was able to lay hands on the woman solely because of (his) DMK cover. It’s very simple. Any human with common sense and brain knows that he was not questioned at the station because of his position within the DMK and his connections with DMK ministers. He has previously committed a similar crime, and now he has repeated it for the second time. Look how all the minister reacted? How did the FIR get leaked? Across India, CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems) is connected to police stations through fiber optic cables. As soon as data is entered, it goes directly to the master server, monitored by a control room with an SP and Inspector. So, how did the FIR get released? Apart from the police department, who else could have leaked it?”

Annamalai explained that the system was secure and could not be hacked. Criticizing the police department, he questioned, “Is this an FIR, sir? Even an illiterate person would draft it better. It raises doubts about whether the victim women or the accused is at fault. You’ve written it in a way that makes  the woman did something wrong. Reading such an FIR makes my blood boil.

Angrily, Annamalai spat during the press conference, emphasizing that the FIR unfairly targeted the victim, he continued, “‘I went with my lover, sat in a secluded place, I was kissing my lover’—is this an FIR?”

He spat and asked, “Don’t you feel ashamed wearing the khaki uniform and drafted a FIR like this? Don’t you feel ashamed? A wrong was done to the woman, reading this FIR—will it even hold up in court? I’ve also written a thousand FIRs, and will this stand in any courtroom. What is this? You’ve described it as if the woman was spending a private moment with her lover, kissing him, and then someone jumped out of the bushes, captured photos, and threatened her. Is this how an FIR is supposed to be drafted?”

Pointing to the leaked FIR, he added, “In the leaked FIR. (You’ve leaked) the woman’s name, her mobile number, her father’s name, and even her town. Shame on you! If anyone in the DMK has any dignity, they should feel ashamed. You’ve ruined the woman’s family—her name and her father’s name…  You’ve given a black mark to carry for seven generations. Are you even a human being?” He spat again, visibly enraged.

Slamming DMK Higher Education Minister Govi. Chezhian, who criticized Annamalai by claiming that the state had been peaceful during his three-month absence, Annamalai retorted sharply, “You should feel ashamed to be a minister. I am speaking respectfully only because I hold a position within a party.”

Criticizing the DMK’s divisive politics stoking a North-South divide, Annamalai said, “If you ask, Tamil Nadu is this or that—North and South—my hair! For how many years will we keep dying on this rhetoric? For sixty years, it’s been North vs. South. Watch, by tomorrow morning, the DMK will be back at it with their tax grievances, stating, ‘didn’t receive tax, hair, and shell.’ And in response, without any work, I’ll hold a press meet and say, ‘We gave this much, measured and beyond measure. Are we, in Tamil Nadu, even discussing real issues affecting the people? Politics here has become nothing more than spitting.”

AIIMS Press Release Says Manmohan Singh Died At 9:51 PM, Priyanka Gandhi’s Husband Robert Vadra Announced His Death On Facebook Half An Hour Before

AIIMS Press Release Says Manmohan Singh Died At 9:51 PM, Priyanka Gandhi's Husband Robert Vadra Announced His Death On Facebook Half An Hour Before

Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh was admitted to Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Thursday evening after experiencing severe breathlessness and was moved to the ICU. Tragically, according to an official AIIMS medical bulletin, Dr Manmohan Singh was declared dead at 9:51 PM on December 26, 2024.

Controversy arose earlier in the evening when Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, announced the former Prime Minister’s passing on Facebook at 9:23 PM — 28 minutes before his death was officially confirmed. His premature statement sparked confusion and highlighted the insensitivity with which the Gandhis handled the situation.

Using his verified account, Vadra expressed condolences, stating he was deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Singh’s passing and extended his sympathy to the family. The premature announcement drew criticism for its lack of sensitivity and factual accuracy during such a delicate moment.

Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92, served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. Earlier this year, he retired from the Rajya Sabha, marking the end of an illustrious political career. Representing Assam in the Rajya Sabha for five terms, he shifted to Rajasthan in 2019 after the Congress party lacked sufficient numbers to secure his re-election in Assam.

NCW Takes Suo Moto Action On Anna University Sexual Harassment Case Following BJP TN Chief Annamalai’s Appeal

NCW Takes Suo Moto Action On Anna University Sexual Harassment Case Following BJP TN Chief Annamalai's Appeal

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has initiated a suo moto case following a letter from Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai on 26 December 2024 over the sexual harassment incident involving a female student at Anna University. The accused allegedly blackmailed the victim using videos and pictures of her with a male friend. The arrested individual, reportedly a member of the ruling DMK and serving as the Deputy Organising Secretary of the DMK Students Wing, Saidapet East, has raised concerns about possible interference in the case. Annamalai urged the Commission to prioritize the matter and demanded stringent action against those responsible for publicly revealing the victim’s identity. He also criticized the State Police Department for negligence and for violating the victim’s privacy by including her personal details in the FIR.

In response, the National Commission for Women (NCW) issued a statement on their official X account on 26 December, stating, “The NCW has taken suo moto cognizance of the disturbing sexual assault of a 19-year-old student from Anna University, Chennai. The Commission condemns this heinous act in the strongest terms and stands with the victim in her fight for justice. The NCW highlights that the accused is a habitual offender, with Tamil Nadu Police failing to act on previous cases. This negligence has emboldened him to commit such crimes, raising serious concerns about the collapsing law and order situation in Tamil Nadu. NCW Chairperson Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar has directed the TN DGP to:

  1. Ensure free medical care and protection for the victim.
  2. Add Sec 71 of BNS, 2023, to the FIR for stricter punishment.
  3. Take action against officers for publicly revealing the victim’s identity, violating SC guidelines and Section 72 BNS”

On 26 December 2024, Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai has urged the National Commission for Women to prioritize a sexual harassment case involving a female student at Anna University, where the accused allegedly blackmailed her and is linked to the ruling DMK. He criticized the State Police for negligence in revealing the victim’s identity and called for strict action against those involved. Annamalai also raised concerns about potential political interference in the case.

In a statement released by TN BJP Chief K. Annamalai on his official X account on 26 December 2024, he wrote to the National Commission for Women (NCW), stating, “Madam, I am writing to you with deep grief about the grave injustice meted out to a female student studying at Anna University, Guindy campus, Chennai, where a repeated sexual offender trespassed into the campus on 23-12-2024 to sexually assault her after blackmailing her with videos and pictures of her being with her male friend recorded on his phone. It has been reported that he not only physically assaulted the friend of the female student but also exerted violence on the female student to make her oblige to his sexual demands. “

“The news of the grievous incident created a furore among the public after the girl student gained the courage to report the incident to the Tamil Nadu police on 24-12-2024, after which an FIR was filed. On behalf of BJP Tamil Nadu, a statement condemning the incident and the need to nab the perpetrator immediately and produce him before the court of justice was made on 25-12-2024, and only post that the accused, Gnanasekharan, aged 37, who is said to be a streetside food seller, was arrested and sent to judicial custody.” He added.

“It was reported that the accused, Gnanasekharan, was a history sheeter with over 15 cases pending on him, including a similar sexual assault case against him filed a few years back. After his pictures were made public, it came to light that the accused was a functionary of the DMK (Deputy Organising Secretary, DMK Students Wing, Saidapet East). A condemnation statement was made on behalf of the Tamil Nadu BJP on the free run history sheeters and repeated offenders enjoy in Tamil Nadu under the shield of being a functionary in the DMK where the seniors in the DMK have cuffed the police force’s hands. Madan, this is not the first time a sexual offender belonging to the DMK was involved in an offence against women. ” He added

“On 14-08-2024, four were in a gang rape of a young woman, including a person named Kavidasan (functionary of DMK & Deputy Chief Minister Thiru Udaynidhi Stalin’s fan club) in Orathanadu of Thanjavur district. On 02-01-2023, two persons belonging to the Youth Wing of the DMK were involved in the sexual assault of a woman police constable who was on duty at an event organised for DMK MP Smt Kanimozhi in Virugambakkam, Chennai. On 22-03-2022, a local DMK functionary, along with a few others, was involved in a gang rape of a 22-year-old woman in Virudhunagar after blackmailing her over a video. It is disheartening that these perpetrators of crimes against women have influence over the police force of Tamil Nadu with the fullest support from local DMK leaders, MLAs and Ministers. In the case of the female student at Anna University, what is even more intolerable is the fact that the Tamil Nadu Police has made public the details of the identity of the victim along with her residential address through the FIR copy. This heinous and imprudent act of the TN police is a blatant breach of the rights of the victim. The act seems to be a concerted effort of the TN Police and the ruling DMK dispensation to malign the victim’s character to salvage the state’s collapsed maintenance of Law and Order.” He further added.

“Madam, we want to mention a relevant excerpt from the Honourable Supreme Court Case of X vs. the State of Jharkhand (Writ Petition (C) No. 1352 of 2019, decided on January 20, 2021).

  • This court in Nipun Saxena? has occasion to consider Section 228-A wherein this court in para 50.1 has issued the following directions: (SCC p. 723).
  • No person can print or publish in print, electronic, social media, etc. the name of the victim or even in a remote manner disclose any facts which can lead to the victim being identified and which should make her identity known to the public at large.
  • The law with regard to Section 228-A is well established, all including the media, both print and electronic have to follow the law. To add on, Section 72 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita says that Whoever prints or publishes the name or any matter which may make known the identity of any person against whom an offence under section 64 or section 65 or section 66 or section 67 or section 68 or section 69 or section 70 or section 71 is alleged or found to have been committed (hereafter in this section referred to as the victim) shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years and shall also be liable to fine.

We kindly request that your good office intervene in this matter with the highest priority, taking strenuous action against the persons involved in this detestable act of revealing the victim’s identity to the general public, the State Police Department for their willful negligence, and also flagging the ruling
DMK government’s failure to protect the women of the state against such dreadful crimes.”

“Is This How You Draft An FIR? Thu! DMK Min Should Be Ashamed”: Annamalai Rips Apart DMK Govt Over Anna University Sexual Assault Case

BJP TN Chief Annamalai Slams DMK Govt For Leaking Victim's Identity In Anna University Sexual Assault Case Involving Alleged DMK Functionary

After the FIR in the Anna University sexual assault case, including the victim’s identity, was leaked to the public, BJP state president K Annamalai criticised the ruling DMK government for “spit-worthy politics” over the incident, calling the FIR leak a shameful violation of the survivor’s dignity. Highlighting the accused Gnanasekaran’s ties to DMK, Annamalai lambasted the police for drafting an insensitive FIR that exposed private details, stating, “Aren’t you ashamed of yourselves?”

The shocking revelation of a sexual assault of a woman at Chennai’s premier institution, Anna University, when she was spending time with a student with whom she was in a relationship.

The incident occurred on 23 December 2024, when the victim, who had been in a two-year romantic relationship with a fellow student, was meeting her boyfriend at their usual secluded spot on campus. Two unknown individuals approached them, attacked the boyfriend, and then sexually harassed the woman. The perpetrators forced the student to strip, filmed her without her consent, threatened her, and fled the scene. The traumatized student reported the incident to the Kotturpuram police.

One person has been arrested in connection with the sexual harassment – a 37-year-old Gnanasekaran, who reportedly is a roadside biriyani vendor from Kotturpuram. He is alleged to have multiple pending cases against him. The Kotturpuram police have filed a case under section 64 of the BNSS and are continuing their investigation.

The victim has also filed a complaint with the university’s POSH committee. The Chennai police are working with the university to strengthen campus security. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the matter.

However, it has come to light that the accused Gnanasekaran is a repeat offender and a DMK functionary. Pictures circulating on social media show him alongside several prominent DMK leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and Minister Ma. Subramanian.

In the meantime, the FIR details were leaked to the public somehow. Nitty gritty and gory details of the assault and the victim have also been made reportedly made public. However, the police have asked people to refrain from sharing details out in the open.

BJP TN President Annamalai lashed out at the ruling dispensation and the police for leaking the details.

Speaking to the press, Annamalai said, “Only because the DMK is in power, the accused was able to assault the girl. This is very simple. Anyone with brains and intelligence will know that for the sole reason that he is a DMK member, an office bearer and in close proximity to ministers, they did not conduct an enquiry at the station. He has committed a similar crime. The same crime was done twice. The way all the ministers did a somersault, wow. How did the FIR leak out sir? Across India, every police station is connected through a fibre-optic cable, the CCTNS – Crime Criminal Tracking Network System. As soon as data is entered into the system, it will go to the master server. There will be a control room with an inspector. How could that FIR get leaked? Other than the police department, who else can let this FIR leak out? Everything is internet protocol protected; the system cannot be hacked so easily. Is that an FIR? Even an uneducated person can write a better FIR. It is so confusing who the perpetrator of the crime is and who the victim is. They have written the FIR as if the girl has committed the crime. If one reads that, blood will boil. I went with my lover, I was in a shady corner, I was kissing my boyfriend. Is this an FIR? Wearing the khaki uniform and writing this in the station, aren’t you ashamed of yourselves? The girl has gone through the assault, but if you read the FIR, will it even stand in court? Is this how you draft an FIR? You have leaked the FIR and it contains details of the girl’s name, her mobile number, her father’s name, village name – you should be ashamed of all this. If anyone in the DMK has some self-respect, they must feel ashamed. You have destroyed her family, you have exposed all the details and made them feel ashamed. Are you even humans?”

He further said, “The minister is saying that for 3 months the state was a peaceful garden and since Annamalai returned, there is chaos everywhere. You should be ashamed of calling yourself a minister. I am speaking with respect because I have a position in the party. If I meet you on the streets, I will be a different person. Since what I speak will reflect on PM Modi, I am being very careful. You should be ashamed. Since he was in the DMK, police did not check him and that is why he is roaming freely.”

Frustrated he said, “They always talk about North South. How many years will you keep raking up the same issue? 60 years! Tomorrow DMK will start another issue that they did not get paid by centre and such and I will have to speak about that in the press meets too, explaining the facts. Are we even talking the problems of the public? This type of politics is spit-worthy. We have decided to bring an end to this. Such politics is not good.”

Anna University Sexual Assault Case

The shocking revelation of a sexual assault of a woman at Chennai’s premier institution Anna University when she was spending time with a student with whom she was in a relationship.

However, DMK members and leaders are trying to push the narrative to the other side by claiming that the accused is not a DMK member.

Here’s Proof Of Accused Being A DMK Member

Three men were arrested for allegedly sexually harassing women and assaulting a family at Periya Kuppam beach in Cuddalore district. The incident occurred when a family from Kurinjipadi visited the popular tourist destination to swim. According to reports, a group of intoxicated youths made inappropriate comments and physically attacked both the men and women in the family. The suspects have been taken into custody.

Popular Tourist Spot Turns Dangerous

Periya Kuppam beach, situated near Puduchattaram close to Chidambaram, is a well-known tourist attraction in the region, frequently visited by families from Chidambaram and other parts of Tamil Nadu. Many tourists come to the beach to enjoy swimming in the sea. Recently, Muthu from Kurinjipadi, his relative Sathyamoorthy, and their families, along with a transgender woman named Yazhini from Chidambaram, visited the beach for a leisurely day out. While the men and children relaxed on the shore, Muthu’s wife Bhavani, Sathyamoorthy’s wife Aishswarya, and Yazhini entered the water to bathe.

Drunk Youths Harass and Attack Victims

As the women were swimming, a group of intoxicated men, including Manickavel (24), Dinesh (21), Saravanan (22), and Praveen (24), approached and began teasing and harassing them. When the children noticed the disturbance, they shouted for help. Muthu and Sathyamoorthy rushed to intervene, but the youths allegedly assaulted them as well. The women who attempted to separate the men were also attacked. As the situation grew tense, local onlookers contacted the police, prompting the youths to flee the scene.

Following the incident, Muthu filed a formal complaint at the Puduchattaram police station. A case was registered against the four suspects, including Manickavel, and three of the men—Dinesh, Manickavel, and Saravanan—were arrested. Authorities are continuing to investigate the matter.

Victim’s Account of the Incident

Bhavani, one of the victims, shared her experience of the harrowing event. “We came from Anna Nagar in Kurinjipadi with seven of us visiting Periya Kuppam beach since the children were on holiday. While we were bathing, they arrived drunk. At first, we thought they were there to swim, but then they started teasing us with lewd comments. We tried to move away from them, but the men in our group heard the commotion and went to ask why they were bothering us. That’s when the youths started attacking them, and when we tried to intervene, they assaulted us as well.”
