DMK Govt Arrests AIADMK Members, TVK Cadre For Protesting Anna University Sexual Assault Case; ‘Who Is That Sir?’ Question Leads To Crackdown

DMK Govt Arrests AIADMK Members, TVK Cadre For Protesting Anna University Sexual Assault Case; 'Who Is That Sir?' Question Leads To Crackdown

In a series of arrests, the DMK government has detained several individuals from the AIADMK and Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) who protested over the Anna University sexual assault case by posting posters in prominent locations across the state with the message, “Who is that ‘Sir’? #Save our daughters.” These posters were displayed in Karur, Chennai, and Coimbatore. However, the police have actively torn down the posters and prevented cadres from putting up any such banners.

Karur Town police have registered a case against two daily wage laborers, Selvaraghavan, 64, and Mani, 64, for pasting a poster on the wall of the Karur-Coimbatore Road Electricity Board Supervising Engineer’s office and teared down the poster.

This action by the DMK has been heavily criticized on social media. The AIADMK IT wing president, Kovai Sathyan, condemned it on his social media X account, stating, “It is the job of the DMK’s police department to stop the poster that says, ‘Who is that sir?’ and to arrest the person who posted the video of the chappal beating. #Who_is_that_sir. It could be Ma Su. Ma Su means bad. A person who is in contact with a sex offender is Ma Su (bad), right?”

Similar to the AIADMK cadres’ arrests, women from the actor turned politician Vijay’s TVK were arrested for distributing pamphlets containing a handwritten letter by Vijay condemning the assault case at the entrance of VR Mall, Koyambedu, Chennai. They aimed to raise awareness about the sexual assault incident on the Anna University campus. Similarly, members of the women’s wing of the Karur District Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam were questioned and arrested after presenting the letter in front of the Karur Government Arts College gate. The police raised concerns about the unauthorized distribution of the letter, causing a stir in the area.

Background

On 23 December 2024, a woman, who was in a two-year relationship with a fellow student, was attacked while spending time with her boyfriend at a secluded spot on campus.

Two unknown individuals approached the couple, assaulted the boyfriend, and sexually assaulted the woman. The assailants forced her to strip, filmed her without consent, threatened her, and fled the scene. The traumatized victim later reported the incident to the Kotturpuram police.

In connection with the case, police have arrested 37-year-old Gnanasekaran, a roadside biryani vendor from Kotturpuram with multiple pending cases against him. The police have filed charges under Section 64 of the BNSS and are actively investigating the matter.

The victim also lodged a complaint with the university’s POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) committee. Meanwhile, the Chennai police, in collaboration with the university, are working to enhance campus security.

However, it came to light that the accused Gnanasekaran is a repeat offender and a DMK functionary. Pictures circulating on social media show him alongside several prominent DMK leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and Minister Ma. Subramanian.

FIR Reveals Shocking Details

The shocking details came to light after the All Women Police Station (AWPS) in Raja Annamalai Puram filed the FIR, which reveals a sequence of terrifying events that unfolded on 23 December 2024, within the Anna University campus.

The FIR states that Gnanasekaran filmed the survivor and her boyfriend on the campus before taking things to a terrifying level. He allegedly threatened to leak the footage to the university dean and the couple’s parents unless the student complied with his demands.
He then forcibly took the survivor to a secluded area behind the Highway Lab Building and the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) department building, where he presented her with three horrifying options: one, to be expelled from the university by the dean based on the footage he threatened to release; two, to “spend time” with him; and three, to “spend time” with another man who had reportedly called the accused before the assault.

The Assault

According to the FIR, after making these threats, Gnanasekaran sexually assaulted the survivor between 7:45 PM and 8:20 PM on 23 December 2024. He also took a picture of her college ID card and extracted her father’s contact information from her phone before fleeing the scene. The survivor, in her written complaint, described how Gnanasekaran had received a phone call from an unknown person, during which he mentioned threatening the girl and leaving her.

The police investigation revealed that Gnanasekaran is no stranger to criminal activity, with seven other pending cases against him, including charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for lurking house-trespass and theft. He has now been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections for rape and sexual harassment.

Madurai Assistant Jailor Suspended For Sexual Harassing A 14-Year-Old Girl; Case Filed Against Victim Family For “Attacking” Him

Madurai Assistant Jailor Suspended For Sexual Harassing A 14-Year-Old Girl; Case Filed Against Victim Family For "Attacking" Him

In a shocking incident, Assistant Jailor Balaguruswamy (52) of Madurai Central Jail was arrested on charges of sexually harassing a 14-year-old girl after a complaint from the girl’s family. The girl runs an idli shop with her father and is studying in the 10th grade. The prison administration has responded swiftly, removing him from his position.

The incident came to light after Balaguruswamy, who had visited a restaurant on Bypass Road owned by a man who had previously served his sentence at Madurai Central Jail, allegedly behaved inappropriately with the restaurant owner’s granddaughter. According to reports, Balaguruswamy had engaged in lewd conversations with both the restaurant owner’s daughter and granddaughter.

According to the girl’s family, Balagurusamy had frequented their family-owned eatery, where he allegedly developed a rapport with the minor. He had learned that the family member was studying to become a female police officer and had taken her phone number under the pretense of helping her. Over time, he began harassing her through messages on WhatsApp.

When she blocked him, he started coming to the shop frequently. The victim’s parents say that after their daughter rejected his advances, Balagurusamy continued to pursue her. The situation escalated when Balaguruswamy gave his phone number to the 14-year-old girl and invited her to meet him in the Karimedu area. The girl, feeling uncomfortable, confided in her family about the incident. On 21 December 2024, the girl’s relatives decided to confront Balaguruswamy, following her to the location where he had asked her to meet.

When they arrived, they caught Balaguruswamy speaking to the girl and immediately confronted him, physically attacking him with shoes. A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media, drawing significant attention. Following the confrontation, the Madurai South Women’s Police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act based on the girl’s complaint. Balaguruswamy was arrested and charged with sexual harassment.

The prison administration acted promptly by removing Balaguruswamy from his post, ensuring that no further action could be taken by him within the institution. In response to the incident, Balagurusamy filed a counter-complaint, accusing the family of assault and defamation. He claimed that they had attacked him unjustly and that he had been mistreated during the altercation. He further stated that the case against him was fabricated.

Following the incident, the prison authorities suspended Balagurusamy and launched an internal investigation. Subsequently, a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act was filed, and Balagurusamy was arrested. However, his supporters allege that the accusations are part of a larger conspiracy to discredit him and claim that the investigation is being mishandled by certain police officers who are allegedly trying to intimidate the victim’s family into withdrawing the case.

It is alleged that the same Balaguruswamy had also forcibly approached another woman six months ago. He verbally abused the wife of a life-sentenced prisoner and pressured her into entering another room. When the woman managed to escape, she went to the Karimedu police station, where she reported the incident.

The police then took her to the station, and after a discussion, the matter was concluded. Despite this, Balaguruswamy continues to engage in such behavior, coercing women for his own pleasure and allegedly ‘supplying’ women to many officers, including his fellow colleagues, with similar services. They have even filed cases against the girl who courageously came out with the truth.

DMK Functionary Attacks Fast Food Shop Employee In Tirupathur District, Police Fail To Take Action

DMK Functionary Attacks Fast Food Shop Employee In Tirupathur District, Police Fail To Take Action

A brazen attack on a fast-food shop employee occurred in Tirupathur district, with the victim identifying the assailants as local DMK functionary Nirmal, also known as ‘Vetti.’ Despite the victim filing a report with the police, no action has been taken thus far.

CCTV footage has now been released showing the attackers assaulting Salim, an employee at a fast-food shop owned by Rizwan, located near Vaniyambadi in Tirupattur district. On the 23 December 2024 while Salim was cleaning the shop, three individuals, including Nirmal, arrived at the location and threatened him with a knife and attacked. Although a complaint was lodged at the Vaniyambadi police station, no further steps have been taken in the case.

This is not an isolated incident, as DMK cadres have previously attacked biryani and chicken stall owners for refusing to provide food for free.

  • In 2023, DMK cadre Ajith Kumar and his associates destroyed a hotel in Tambaram after being refused free chicken fried rice, attacking the owner and staff, and causing significant damage.
  • In 2020, DMK office bearer Karthikeyan, after being refused biryani by Krishnan, the owner of ‘Karur Biryani Centre,’ due to the shop being closed, returned with his brother to vandalize the establishment. They caused significant damage by throwing stones and breaking equipment, an act captured on a nearby CCTV camera.
  • Earlier in August 2018, Yuvraj, a DMK youth wing secretary and another party member named Dhivakar thrashed a hotel staff after he refused to give them free biryani.

The Diabolical Hypocrites Of Kollywood: Do They Have An Ounce Of Shame?

The Diabolical Hypocrites Of Kollywood: Do They Have An Ounce Of Shame for being silent on the Anna University case?

Kollywood celebrities, known for their vocal stance on social issues, have fallen eerily silent on the recent Anna University sexual assault case. While these celebrities quickly condemned similar incidents under the previous regime, their voices are conspicuously absent now, raising concerns about their selective outrage and potential political motivations.

Only a few Kollywood celebrities have spoken out on this Anna University case, while the loud voices when the DMK was in opposition are now wholly muted. Despite the case unfolding weeks ago, many of these so-called heroes and movie stars from Kollywood have kept their mouths glued shut, refraining from criticizing the DMK government, leading to questions about whether they will only speak out against women’s assault when it aligns with the political interests of their party.

Rajinikanth

Actor Rajinikanth, who had called for strict action against the perpetrators of the 2018 rape and murder of a 17-year-old tribal girl, has remained silent on the recent sexual assault case at Anna University. In 2018, while preparing to enter politics, he had stated, “Stringent action should be taken against the culprits.”

Additionally, Rajinikanth had claimed to be “unaware” of the Hema Committee report that exposed the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace, which drew national attention. Rajinikanth has also refrained from commenting on recent tragedies, such as the floods and landslides in Tiruvannamalai. While he had previously expressed strong reactions to the custodial deaths of Jayaraj and Fenix during the AIADMK regime, who released a picture of his ‘angry face’ expressing shock, calling for punishment for the responsible officials. Now, Rajinikanth has not made any public statements regarding the recent sexual assault case.

Pa Ranjith

Dravidianist director Pa. Ranjith stands out in Kollywood for his peculiarity. Unlike others, he tends to condemn cases involving Dalits only when they occur outside Tamil Nadu, where he lives and earns a living. While he vocally expresses his anger over incidents in northern and northeastern parts of India, he remains silent or even doesn’t care serious issues when they arise in his home state. His reactions, especially on social media, highlight his apparent bias, as seen in his past tweets on various incidents.

Wrestler’s Sexual Harassment Case

During 2023, Dravidianist director Pa. Ranjith condemned the arrest of wrestlers who were protesting and peddled narratives stating, “Condemnations against the manhandling of peacefully protesting #SakshiMalik and other Wrestling Olympians and World Championship at the #WrestlersProtest against sexual harassment by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Wrestling Federation Chairman and BJP MP. The champions who unfurled the India’s tricolour flag at world championship have been treated without any dignity and respect. It is a disgrace that the government has neither responded to the protest nor to their decision of the champions immersing their medals river water. In solidarity with #WrestlersProtest, I demand the immediate removal of Singh from his post as Chairman of WFI and MP and lawful action against Singh.”

Dalit Sexual Assault Case

Pa. Ranjith shared a post from his organization, Neelam Cultural Centre, which condemned the rape of Dalit women across India. However, when an individual and an organization speak out about such issues nationwide, it raises questions as to why he remains silent on similar incidents occurring in his own state, in his own backyard. It stated, Every Day In India. #Shame! If these are the reported cases, then just try to imagine the unreported cases from backward rural India that many of the sexual abuses and violence by UC men at their farms against #DalitWomen, the real digit will show sickness of #Casteism.”

Manipur Riots

During the Manipur riots, when a tribal woman was paraded naked, Pa. Ranjith condemned the incident, which took place in northeastern India. However, he has remained silent, with nothing more than a sealed mouth, when a woman was sexually assaulted —this time, a student on a college campus in his own state. What has stopped him from speaking out in his own backyard?

He stated, “Condemnations against the BJP led governments’ silence on Ethnic Riots in Manipur Following the order to include the social-economically and politically dominant Meitei Hindu tribe into the Schedule Tribe list, broke out riots between Meitis and Kuki-Zo Christian Tribes. The riots have continued for two months leading to massive displacement, killing of civilians, sexual violence while internet has been shut down across the state. The attacks have taken communal forms with burning down of churches and places of historical significance of the Kuki-Zo tribe. The governments and its institutions in both – state and Centre being led by the BJP have disregarded the issue. This silence and insensitivity is in-acceptable and shame in a democracy. We demand the justice to the survivors of the violence and resignation of respective political representatives. My solidarity and support to the people of Manipur. “

Pollachi Sexual Assault Case 2019

Some may argue that Pa. Ranjith, as a Dalit activist, has always been vocal about Dalit rights, and that this silence reflects a contradiction. This was evident when he was outspoken during the 2019 Pollachi sexual assault case, where he sharply criticized the AIADMK regime. In a series of posts, he stated, “Every time incidents like Pollachi happen, which question humanity, we all ask women to be responsible and careful… but no change will happen just because of our sins, regrets, and anger after the problem arises. Everyone should come forward to challenge the reactionary views on women’s bodies, clothing, social activities, and culture in a male-centric society. We must introspect, or no matter how many laws are passed, the voices of the affected women will continue to be ignored by the authorities. We too will keep listening, watching, raising our voices, or doing nothing.”

However, now, despite the current situation where ruling DMK government spokespersons are brazenly victim-blaming the assault victim, Pa. Ranjith has remained completely silent.

Kamal Hassan

In 2023, Kamal Haasan joined the growing list of celebrities voicing support for the protest by India’s wrestling community. Marking one month since the protests began, the full-time actor and part-time politician addressed the issue on social media. He wrote,Today marks 1 month of protests by athletes of the wrestling fraternity. Instead of fighting for national glory, we have forced them to fight for personal safety. Fellow Indians, who deserves our attention, our national sporting icons or a politician with an extensive criminal history? #IStandWithMyChampions#WrestlersProtest.”

Brothers Duo Actor Suriya & Karthi

The Dravidianist family of actors Suriya and Karthi are another example of hypocrisy. They have consistently aligned themselves with the DMK, openly opposing the AIADMK regime in Tamil Nadu and its ideological counterpart at the center, a stance they have repeatedly emphasized.

In 2018, while criticizing the AIADMK, actor Suriya posted, “Friends, now we are the ones eating mixture (savoury),” highlighting his discontent with the political situation at the time.

His brother, actor Karthi, was seen present at a press meet, condemning the Pollachi sexual harassment case 2019 and criticizing the AIADMK regime. Currently the actor duo’s mouth is tightly sealed.

Siddharth

Dravidianist flop-actor Siddharth, who has been criticized by netizens for his selective stance, deleted a post after facing severe backlash for not speaking out on the current Anna University sexual assault case, while he had previously criticized the AIADMK regime in 2019. In a post from 2019, he had stated, “Shocked by the #PollachiSexualAbuse case. Hope there is systemic support given so that survivors can come forward and strengthen the case against the criminals who did this. Preying on girls using social media is a growing menace and we must safeguard against it.”

RJ Balaji

Dravidianist hypocrite RJ Balaji, who refers to himself as the ‘brother-in-law’ of DMK scion and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, previously condemned the 2018 sexual harassment case involving a minor, schooling society for it. However, he is now conspicuously silent on the matter. In 2018, via his social media handle, he stated, “What happened to the little girl in Chennai is cruel. As a parent, I feel petrified and unsafe for our children’s safety. Not able to imagine the plight of that 12 year old. We live amidst such sick men around us. Please give them the highest punishment.”

Earlier, in 2012, during the Delhi Nirbhaya gang rape case, Dravidianist RJ Balaji expressed, “From Delhi to Thoothukudi, wherever it happens, it’s a sick cruelty. Working on changing the mindset of Indian men (at least the next generation) towards women is as important as forcing the government to bring in stricter laws. I hope this time our anger doesn’t get diluted until both are achieved.”

However, he is now conspicuously silent, refusing to speak out, as he enjoys the success of his movies funded by Dravidianist ideology and continues to profit by aligning with them.

The silence of Kollywood celebrities on the Anna University sexual assault case is a damning indictment of their selective outrage. While they have readily condemned similar incidents in the last regime, their voices are curiously absent when the spotlight falls on the current ruling party. This deafening silence raises serious questions on whether they are truly champions of women’s rights or are merely political opportunists who prioritize their own interests over the well-being of their fellow citizens. The actions of these Kollywood celebrities speak louder than their words, and their silence in this critical moment speaks volumes about their true character.

BJP Leader Annamalai Welcomes TVK Vijay’s Meet With TN Governor RN Ravi Over Anna Univ Sexual Assault Case, Vijay Had Earlier Called For Abolishing Governor Post

BJP Leader Annamalai Welcomes TVK Vijay Meeting Governor RN Ravi Over Anna University Sexual Assault Case.

Tamil Nadu BJP chief Annamalai lauded actor-turned-politician Vijay for meeting Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi in Chennai to address the horrifying sexual assault incident at Anna University. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay submitted a petition urging enhanced law and order measures and comprehensive safety protocols for women in public spaces, educational institutions, and workplaces. His meeting with the Governor comes despite his earlier political stance advocating the abolition of the gubernatorial position, a contradiction noted by critics.

Annamalai, while criticizing the DMK government for its alleged mishandling of the case, expressed hope that Vijay’s engagement with Governor Ravi would bring attention to the deteriorating safety conditions for women in Tamil Nadu. He urged all political parties to unite to ensure justice for the victim.

Full-time actor-turned-part-time-politician Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi in Chennai in light of the sexual assault incident at Anna University, which has sparked widespread outrage. The assault, which occurred on 23 December 2024, involved a second-year student and has resulted in one arrest. Four special police teams are investigating the case.

Vijay submitted a petition that called for maintaining law and order in the state and taking necessary measures to ensure the safety of women everywhere.

Protests have erupted across Tamil Nadu, with the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the All India Women Welfare Federation demonstrating outside Anna University’s Guindy campus, demanding justice and enhanced security for women in educational institutions.

Vijay Statement

Vijay, the leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), expressed his shock and concern over the incident in a statement on his party’s X handle. He wrote, The news of a student being sexually assaulted inside the Anna University campus in Chennai is deeply shocking and painful. Although the police have informed that the person who sexually assaulted the student has been arrested, I urge the Tamil Nadu government to take swift legal action against him and ensure that he is punished accordingly. Furthermore, if anyone else was involved in this heinous crime, appropriate action should also be taken against them promptly. Using the Nirbhaya fund allocated every year, we should identify places where women are not safe and install smart poles, emergency buttons, CCTV cameras, telephones, etc., ensure women’s safety in all city buses, provide women’s toilet facilities in public places, provide emergency telephones and mobile apps for women’s safety, and ensure the safety of women in all places including educational institutions, private institutions, and public places. In addition to establishing all of these, it is also necessary to continuously monitor whether they are fully functional. In doing these, appropriate safety precautions should be taken without any compromise. It is also necessary to create adequate legal assistance and psychological awareness so that women can defend themselves with mental strength in any situation. I also request the government to create this awareness among women during their education period.”

Madras HC & NCW Response

The Madras High Court took immediate action, setting up an all-women Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the assault and the leak of the victim’s FIR. The SIT consists of IPS officers Sneha Priya, Ayman Jamal, and Brinda. The court also ordered a Rs 25 lakh compensation for the victim and mandated Anna University to provide her with free education, boarding, lodging, and counseling. The Tamil Nadu DGP was warned to implement stricter measures to prevent FIR leaks in future sexual offense cases.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has sent a two-member fact-finding team to investigate the case and monitor the government’s response.

Annamalai Welcomes Vijay Meeting With Governor Ravi

Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party chief Annamalai severely condemned the assault and the way the DMK government was handling the issue – right from leaking of FIR to not taking action on time on a repeat offender, Gnanasekaran, who also was found to be a DMK office bearer.

Annamalai welcomed the development – Vijay meeting the Governor, and wrote on his X handle, Despite condemning the sexual assault of a DMK executive on an Anna University student, the police and ministers have been speaking out in contradictory terms about the investigation, and the DMK has been continuously voicing its lack of @BJP4Tamilnadu in the government’s investigation. Today, we welcome the fact that the President of Tamil Nadu Vetri Kalka, Brother Mr. @tvkvijayhq, also met and spoke to the Honorable Governor about the insecurity of women under the DMK regime. Condemning the DMK government for its continued attempts to divert the case, I, as the brother of the victim student, request all parties to come forward. Our sister must get justice.”

Vijay Had Asked For Removal Of Governor Post

Vijay conducted his first political rally in the last week of October 2024. At the rally, Vijay outlined his party’s ideology and objectives, emphasizing equality, social justice, and secularism. He also advocated for the promotion of Tamil as the official language in courts and called for the removal of the position of Governor. If Vijay had been a rational person, he would’ve realized that calling for the abolishing of the Governor’s post is unconstitutional. The Constitutional post has been put in place by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar whom he claims to be one of the guiding ideologues for the party.

However, he deemed it fit to meet the governor and raise the Anna University sexual assault issue with the same governor – a position he wanted to be abolished.

₹50,000 For Passing PhD Entrance: Corruption Scandal Hits Madurai Kamaraj University; Students Demand External Investigation

₹50,000 For Passing PhD Entrance: Corruption Scandal Hits Madurai Kamaraj University; Students Demand External Investigation

Allegations of irregularities and corruption in the PhD entrance examination at Madurai Kamaraj University have sparked outrage among students and faculty, who are demanding an independent inquiry by a committee of professors from other universities.

Complaints have emerged of money being extorted from students, ranging from ₹25,000 to ₹50,000, allegedly in exchange for high marks in the entrance examination conducted on 22 September 2024. A total of 1,094 students appeared for the exam, requiring a minimum of 30% to pass. However, only 18% cleared the test, leading to claims that the questions were overly difficult and that certain candidates received an undue advantage.

Reports also highlight long-standing grievances, including alleged sexual harassment by some faculty members in the Ph.D. research section and financial irregularities related to research reports. These complaints have previously been submitted to university authorities, including the Registrar and the Convenor’s Committee, but without substantial action.

In November, professors and research students escalated their complaints to Government Secretary Rita Haris Thakkar, prompting the Higher Education Department to intervene. On 10 December 2024, the department recommended that the university form a committee of senior and impartial professors to investigate the allegations thoroughly.

Despite this directive, the university formed a five-member internal committee on 28 December 2024, led by Professor Ganesan from the Biotechnology Department, along with Associate Professor Sivakumar, Assistant Professors Vara Lakshmi, Siva, and Rosita. This move has been criticized for excluding senior professors and syndicate members, raising concerns about potential bias and interference by university officials.

Students and professors have expressed dissatisfaction with the composition of the inquiry committee, stating that including junior faculty members undermines the credibility of the investigation. They insist on appointing senior professors from other universities to ensure impartiality and transparency. Protesting students warned that without an independent committee, the investigation could end up being a superficial exercise.

They further demanded that the Ph.D. admission process proceed without delay, as the entrance exam results have already been published.

The controversy surrounding the Ph.D. entrance examination has further deepened with claims of systemic issues in the university’s research section. Protesters warn that without genuine reform, trust in the institution will erode further.

University authorities have yet to respond to the growing demands for an independent investigation.

Kerala: Communist Organizations Target Youth Programs – NCC Camp Stormed, Cadets Harassed, Army Officer Assaulted, Minor Taken From Camp Without Consent For Red Volunteer March

Communists Target Youth Programs - NCC Camp Stormed, Cadets Harassed, Army Officer Assaulted, Minor Taken From Camp Without Consent For Red Volunteer March

Tensions flared at an NCC camp held at KMM College, Thrikkakara, around 24 December 2024, as allegations surfaced against Kerala SFI leader Bhagyalakshmi for inappropriate conduct and harassment of cadets, including female participants. The accusations arose following a heated altercation involving Bhagyalakshmi, an SFI district secretariat member, and the cadets.

According to the cadets, Bhagyalakshmi, accompanied by a group of individuals, allegedly trespassed into the Kerala NCC camp, searched their barracks, and made inappropriate remarks. One female cadet reported that Bhagyalakshmi questioned them with sexual undertones, asking, “Are you here to offer yourselves to the officers?” The remarks have caused outrage among the cadets, who expressed pride in their roles as NCC participants and condemned the alleged behavior.

Bhagyalakshmi, however, has denied the allegations, claiming that her actions were misunderstood. She stated that her visit to the camp was prompted by reports of misconduct involving higher officials. “I did not make any inappropriate remarks. As a woman, I am fully aware of the sensitivities involved and acted responsibly,” she said.

The incident reportedly occurred after several cadets were admitted to a local hospital due to suspected food poisoning. Bhagyalakshmi and her team allegedly forced their way into the camp, citing concerns over the cadets’ well-being and accusing officials of negligence.

While video footage of the altercation has been circulated, opinions remain divided. The footage shows a confrontation between Bhagyalakshmi’s group and camp officials, with cadets visibly distressed. Some cadets claimed that the intruders inspected their rooms without permission and behaved aggressively.

The controversy has escalated further as both parties continue to present conflicting narratives. Army personnel at the camp have criticized the lack of accountability and called for a formal investigation. Bhagyalakshmi maintains her innocence, asserting that her actions were in the cadets’ interest.

Additionally, CPM workers allegedly attacked Army officers during an NCC camp at KMM College in Thrikkakara. The incident occurred on the night of 23 December 2024, when a group of CPM-affiliated individuals reportedly entered the camp premises and assaulted Lieutenant Colonel Karnail Singh, the camp commandant. Despite an FIR being registered, no action has been taken by the police so far, prompting criticism from the victimized Army personnel.

The incident allegedly began after complaints of food poisoning were reported at the NCC camp. Several students experiencing discomfort were admitted to Kalamassery Medical College. Following this, a group of CPM workers reportedly stormed the camp, assaulting students and subjecting female cadets to harassment. Lieutenant Colonel Karnail Singh’s father later shared details of the attack on social media, revealing that his son, in full uniform, was assaulted while on duty.

In connection with the incident, the police registered an FIR against Bhagyalakshmi, an SFI leader and DYFI district committee member, along with others. Despite this, the accused remain at large, and the Army officers allege that the police have failed to take further steps. The officers also claim that the food poisoning incident was fabricated by some students seeking to leave the camp early for Christmas celebrations.

Despite the FIR being filed promptly on December 24, no arrests have been made, sparking further outrage among the Army personnel, who have demanded justice and immediate action from the authorities.

In yet another incident, Hari Kumar of Enikkara lodged a police complaint on 24 December 2024 after his son was taken from an NSS camp to participate in the CPM district meet’s Red Volunteer March without his consent. Kumar discovered the incident during a scheduled visit to the camp. He stated that his neighbor, Vishnu, initially called requesting the boy’s participation, which Kumar declined. Vishnu later collected the boy’s uniform under false pretenses, took him from the camp, and provided him with lunch before the march. Despite being a CPM supporter, Kumar emphasized his prior objection and plans further complaints to the child rights commission and education minister.

These recent incidents in Kerala highlight a concerning pattern of Communist organizations’ interference with youth and student programmes. Additionally, no action is taken despite complaints and FIRs being filed.

Along with other farmers in the region, Krishna Chandra has formed a Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) and created a highly profitable business model, contributing to the local economy.

His annual turnover is approximately Rs 1.5 crore, and he has urged more farmers to adopt modern agricultural techniques with the government’s support. Krishna Chandra shared that he has been involved in farming since 2006. Currently, he cultivates crops on 16 acres of land, with an annual turnover of Rs 1.5 crore and a profit of about Rs 75-80 lakh.

He was thrilled by PM Modi’s recognition of his village, calling it a hub for vegetables, and said, “It feels great to have the name of my block, village, and district mentioned in front of the country’s people.”

The farmer highlighted that the NABARD and Mahashakti Foundation provide significant support for modern farming practices, offering various subsidies. He emphasised that individual efforts alone won’t suffice, and his goal is for farmers across the district and Odisha to progress together.

Krishna Chandra urged fellow farmers to embrace modern technology in agriculture for better outcomes. Experts believe that such efforts in the farming sector would pave the way for marginal cultivators to progress by being associated with successful farmers like Krishna Chandra. Rajinikanth Says ‘Congrats’ When Asked About Vijayakanth’s First Death Anniversary, Realizes Question Later, Exposes Ignorance Once Again After Tiruvannamalai Landslide “Oh Is That So?” Moment

Rajinikanth Says 'Congrats' When Asked About Vijayakanth's First Death Anniversary, Realizes Question Later, Exposes Ignorance Once Again After Tiruvannamalai Landslide "Oh Is That So?" Moment

Actor Rajinikanth has found himself embroiled in controversy after appearing to offer a casual “Congrats” when asked about the first death anniversary of his close friend and fellow actor, Vijayakanth. The insensitive remark, made during a brief interaction with the press at the airport, has drawn significant online criticism. This incident follows another recent instance where Rajinikanth’s response to a serious tragedy – the landslide in Thiruvannamalai – was deemed insensitive and dismissive.

When reporters inquired about the first anniversary of late actor Vijayakanth’s remembrance, Rajinikanth, seemingly misunderstanding the question, responded with a casual “Congrats,” as though they were celebrating the actor’s death. This comment has since drawn significant online criticism.

On 28 December 2024, thousands of fans and party workers from the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) gathered at the party’s headquarters in Chennai to mark the first death anniversary of actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth, affectionately known as “Captain.” Vijayakanth, the founder of DMDK and a former Leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu, passed away on 28 December 2023, due to health complications.

Given Rajinikanth’s close relationship with Vijayakanth, having often described him as his closest friend, reporters at Chennai airport questioned him about the anniversary. Rajinikanth, arriving from his movie shoot for Coolie, appeared to misunderstand the question and immediately responded with a casual “Congrats,” leaving the reporters taken aback. When they clarified that Vijayakanth had passed away a year ago and they were remembering him on his first anniversary, Rajinikanth responded, “Oh, is that so?” Moments later, He explained that his new film project was going well. His reaction has since sparked significant criticism online.

After facing criticism, actor Rajinikanth took to social media to clarify his response, posting later saying, “My tribute to my beloved captain on his first anniversary.”

This marks the second time that Rajinikanth has given an irresponsible reaction to a serious situation. Just recently, when the press questioned him about the landslide in Thiruvannamalai triggered by Cyclone Fengal, which claimed the lives of seven people, his response was similarly tone-deaf. Upon being informed about the tragedy at the airport, Rajinikanth appeared momentarily shocked, asking, “When?” before offering a brief and seemingly indifferent, “Oh my god, I am extremely sorry.” Moments later, he shifted the conversation to discussing his films with a smile.
