TMC Panchayat Chief Lovely Khatun Allegedly A Bangladeshi Immigrant

TMC Panchayat Chief Lovely Khatun Allegedly A Bangladeshi Immigrant

Lovely Khatun, the TMC-led Rashidabad Gram Panchayat chief in Malda district, West Bengal, is reportedly a Bangladeshi immigrant who entered India illegally without a passport. TV9 Bangla reports that Lovely Khatun’s real name is Nasia Sheikh. Questions are being raised about her involvement in local elections and her rise to become a panchayat chief, reportedly with the backing of influential TMC leaders from Harishchandrapur.

The issue has gained significant attention, leading to multiple allegations of fraud and forgery. Witnesses from the village claim that documents, including signatures, were allegedly falsified to support her candidacy. “We weren’t aware of how our names were used as witnesses,” said a resident to TV9 Bangla. Reports suggest that duplicate signatures were obtained and used fraudulently.

The controversy escalated to the Calcutta High Court, where a petition was filed by Rehana Sultana, who lost the election to Lovely Khatun. The court directed Chanchal’s Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) to investigate and submit a report within six months. However, it has been alleged that the report has not yet been submitted, even though the deadline has passed. The High Court is set to hear the case again on 5 February 2025.

The allegations against Lovely Khatun include forging documents such as her identity certificate and OBC status to establish her election eligibility. The petitioner claims there is evidence to prove that Khatun changed her identity, including altering her name and official records.

When confronted by TV9 Bangla for her response, Lovely Khatun dismissed the allegations, stating, “I am busy and cannot comment on this matter right now.” Her lack of clarification has only fueled further speculation.

The High Court’s upcoming hearing will likely shed more light on the matter.

Centre’s Public Grievance System Resolves Over 70 Lakh Citizen Concerns In 3 Years

Centre's Public Grievance System Resolves Over 70 Lakh Citizen Concerns In 3 Years

The government said on Monday that the centralised public grievance redress and monitoring system (CPGRAMS) has successfully resolved over 70 lakh grievances in the last three years (2022-2024) in a bid to swiftly address citizen concerns.

From 2022 to 2024, the system resolved 70,03,533 grievances and mapped 1,03,183 Grievance Redressal Officers (GROs) as of October 31. CPGRAMS, developed and monitored by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), is an online platform available 24/7 that connects all ministries and departments nationwide.

The public grievance system now connects 92 central ministries, departments and organisations with 36 states/UTs, offering a seamless platform supported by over 73,000 active subordinate users.

With 96,295 organisations registered, CPGRAMS has significantly improved citizen engagement and service delivery. Citizens can file complaints through the web portal, the mobile app on the Google Play Store, or the UMANG app. Each complaint receives a unique registration ID, allowing users to track its progress.

According to the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the ‘My Grievance’ app also serves as an independent platform for filing and tracking complaints.

The government prioritises a citizen-centric approach for a developed Bharat, ensuring active participation from citizens in the development process.

At the third Biennial Pan-Commonwealth Heads of Public Service Meeting, held in April this year, the Commonwealth Secretariat highlighted it as a future-ready governance tool. The system has proven effective in swiftly resolving citizens’ grievances and improving public safety.

Now, DARPG is developing the NextGen CPGRAMS platform to improve grievance redressal. Building on CPGRAMS 7.0, it will offer features like grievance filing via WhatsApp/Chatbot, voice-to-text lodging, instant alerts, and auto-escalation. Grievance Redressal Officers will benefit from machine learning-based auto-replies and auto-populated reports.

Monitoring bodies can track grievances by grouping, sector and ministry. The ‘NextGen CPGRAMS’ system is set to launch on July 1, 2025, further enhancing the grievance resolution process.

“Yaar Andha Sir (Who Is That Sir?)”: Netizens And Opposition Parties Question DMK Over Anna University Sexual Assault Case

"Yaar Andha Sir (Who Is That Sir?)": Netizens And Opposition Parties Question DMK Over Anna University Sexual Assault Case

Since the breakthrough in the Anna University on-campus sexual harassment case, it was initially reported that the alleged offender, DMK functionary Gnanasekaran, had been speaking on the phone with another individual, addressing him as ‘Sir.’ It was also claimed that the victim corroborated this by stating the same. However, both DMK ministers and the police have denied these allegations.

In response, the opposition has strongly criticized the DMK government, accusing it of attempting to protect a high-profile individual. As part of their protest, opposition groups have joined the public in demanding answers, using the hashtag #Who_is_that_sir? and posting posters across Tamil Nadu to express their opposition.

Background

On 23 December 2024, a woman, who was in a two-year relationship with a fellow student, was attacked while spending time with her boyfriend at a secluded spot on campus.

Two unknown individuals approached the couple, assaulted the boyfriend, and sexually harassed the woman. The assailants forced her to strip, filmed her without consent, threatened her, and fled the scene. The traumatized victim later reported the incident to the Kotturpuram police.

In connection with the case, police have arrested 37-year-old Gnanasekaran, a roadside biryani vendor from Kotturpuram with multiple pending cases against him. The police have filed charges under Section 64 of the BNSS and are actively investigating the matter.

The victim also lodged a complaint with the university’s POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) committee. Meanwhile, the Chennai police, in collaboration with the university, are working to enhance campus security.

However, it came to light that the accused Gnanasekaran is a repeat offender and a DMK functionary. Pictures circulating on social media show him alongside several prominent DMK leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and Minister Ma. Subramanian.

FIR Reveals Shocking Details

The shocking details came to light after the All Women Police Station (AWPS) in Raja Annamalai Puram filed the FIR, which reveals a sequence of terrifying events that unfolded on 23 December 2024, within the Anna University campus.

The FIR states that Gnanasekaran filmed the survivor and her boyfriend on the campus before taking things to a terrifying level. He allegedly threatened to leak the footage to the university dean and the couple’s parents unless the student complied with his demands.
He then forcibly took the survivor to a secluded area behind the Highway Lab Building and the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) department building, where he presented her with three horrifying options: one, to be expelled from the university by the dean based on the footage he threatened to release; two, to “spend time” with him; and three, to “spend time” with another man who had reportedly called the accused before the assault.

The Assault

According to the FIR, after making these threats, Gnanasekaran sexually assaulted the survivor between 7:45 PM and 8:20 PM on 23 December 2024. He also took a picture of her college ID card and extracted her father’s contact information from her phone before fleeing the scene. The survivor, in her written complaint, described how Gnanasekaran had received a phone call from an unknown person, during which he mentioned threatening the girl and leaving her.

The police investigation revealed that Gnanasekaran is no stranger to criminal activity, with seven other pending cases against him, including charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for lurking house-trespass and theft. He has now been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections for rape and sexual harassment.

Kanyakumari: Class 12 Student Sexually Assaulted After Volleyball Tournament; 37-Yr-Old Predator Faisal Khan Arrested Under POCSO

A 17-year-old Class 12 student from a school in Kanyakumari district was allegedly sexually assaulted after returning from a volleyball tournament from Trichy.

On 25 December 2024, the physical education teacher took 14 students, including the victim, to Trichy for the tournament. They returned to school on 26 December night. While most of the students were picked up by their parents, the victim stayed behind, stating that her father would arrive soon.

After the student decided to stand outside the school, a 37-year-old man noticed her by the roadside and asked why she was there. Unaware of his intentions, the student replied that she needed to use the bathroom, and the man pointed her to a nearby house. It is alleged that she went upstairs to use the bathroom. After coming back downstairs, the man allegedly led her to another room, locked it, and assaulted her.

The victim later returned home in distress and reported the incident. Her parents filed a complaint at the Marthandam All Women Police Station. Based on the complaint, police arrested Faisal Khan (37) from Manalikarai under the POCSO Act.

It is also alleged that the victim’s boyfriend, Regis Kumar (21), had taken the victim to Faisal Khan’s house that night. Additionally, Kumar has been accused of bringing other such students to his home, which has now come to light. The police are investigating whether other individuals were involved in the incident. The case is under investigation, and authorities are taking the necessary steps based on the victim’s statements.

The woman’s family accused the doctors at Jayankondam Government Hospital (GH) in Ariyalur of negligence and staged a road blockade in front of the hospital that night.

According to police, Sangeetha, a resident of Kondairuppu Colony in Kattumannarkoil block of Cuddalore district, was admitted to the Jayankondam GH on 26 December 2024. ABVP Students Stage Protest Outside Tamil Nadu Bhawan In Delhi Demanding Justice Over Anna University Sexual Assault Case

Students from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest outside the Tamil Nadu Bhawan in Delhi on 30 December 2024 demanding justice for the girl student from Anna University, Tamil Nadu, who was sexually assaulted by a DMK functionary in the university campus. The protest was sparked by the recent allegations of a physical assault on the student, which has ignited widespread outrage among fellow students and political groups. The demonstrators raised slogans and demanded accountability from both the university administration and local authorities for their handling of the incident.

A significant number of ABVP students gathered outside the Tamil Nadu Bhawan, demanding justice for the victim and calling for the arrest of those responsible. The protest intensified after several ABVP activists were arrested during the demonstration, with protesters emphasizing that they would not back down until justice was served and the arrested activists were released.

The protest was particularly marked by strong emotions, with many students, particularly women, expressing anger and frustration over the assault and the subsequent leak of sensitive information related to the victim. According to the protesters, when the assault occurred, the details were made public, leading to further victimization. Furthermore, ABVP activists who attempted to speak out about the case were reportedly arrested.

The protesters, holding placards and posters that read “Stop protecting rapist DMK goons” “ShameOnMKStalin” made it clear that they would not disperse until their demands were met. They called for immediate action from the authorities and the release of the ABVP activists who had been detained.

In response to the growing protest, a heavy police presence was deployed around the Tamil Nadu Bhawan, with barricades set up to prevent the students from moving forward. However, the students continued their protest, demanding that the government take strict action against the perpetrators of the assault. They emphasized that such incidents should not have been allowed to escalate, urging for harsher punishment for the offenders involved.

The protesters also voiced their frustration at the local administration for allegedly ignoring the issue and failing to take appropriate action sooner. They stated that their struggle would continue until the victim received justice, and the arrested ABVP activists were freed.

The protest remains ongoing, with students pledging to remain at the site as long as necessary. The police have been placed on high alert, and the situation is being closely monitored.

Texas Schools Remove Bible From Libraries Under State’s Own ‘Sexually Explicit Content’ Law

Texas Schools Remove Bible From Libraries Under State's Own 'Sexually Explicit Content' Law

Texas, a predominantly Republican state, has been forced to remove copies of the Bible from school libraries after a new state law went into effect, banning books with “sexually explicit” content.

The law, known as Texas House Bill 900, sets standards for school libraries, restricting materials deemed inappropriate. A leaked email from Canyon Independent School District Superintendent Darryl Flusche revealed that the Bible was removed from school libraries because it was considered to contain “sexually explicit material.”

Flusche’s email clarified that while the Bible was removed from the libraries, it could still be found in other district libraries. He referenced the specific legal section, “B 900: Section 33.021. LIBRARY STANDARDS,” which prohibits books with any mention of sexual content. The email also offered a solution for students who wished to access a Bible, stating that local churches were willing to donate copies upon request.

Parents, however, have reacted strongly to the move, expressing their anger at the decision to remove the Bible. One mother, Regina Kiehne, described the action as “absurd” and argued that having the Bible in schools could provide comfort and security to children, especially in a world marked by violence. She stressed that the Bible is not only the world’s bestselling book but also historically significant, scientifically reliable, and life changing.

Upon review, the Bible does include instances of sexual violence, adultery, polygamy, and other forms of sexual conduct, which some might consider explicit.

‘Progressive’ Communist-Ruled Kerala Myth Busted, CPI-M Dumps Naming Health Minister Veena George As First Woman District Party Secretary Fearing Backlash

'Progressive' Communist-Ruled Kerala Myth Busted, CPI-M Dumps Naming Health Minister Veena George As First Woman District Party Secretary Fearing Backlash

With Kerala CPI-M’s organisational polls underway, the prospect of the first party woman district Secretary failed to materialise on Monday amid speculations that state Health Minister Veena George might be named for Pathanamthitta district, but fearing a backlash, senior party leaders decided to appoint veteran former legislator Raju Abraham to the post instead.

This is in stark contradiction to the popular myth peddled by leftists, that Kerala is the most progressive and literate state because of Communists.

In the last six decades, the CPI-M in Kerala has had no woman Chief Minister, or a state chief, and and not a single woman leader has even served as party district Secretary in any of the present-day 14 district committees.

Thus, it has been coming under fire over poor representation of women in the party’s internal framework. Journalist-turned-two-time CPI-M legislator George is a protege of the power Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and eyebrows were raised when after winning a second successive term, he opted for her as Health Minister and did not retain outgoing Minister K.K. Shailaja who had won accolades for her work during the Covid pandemic.

On Monday when it came to selecting the new Pathanamthitta district secretary and a new district committee, even though Vijayan and the top party bosses preferred to bring in George, they, after getting a feel that if the move goes to the ballot, then she might lose, decided not to back her and Abraham was unanimously selected as the new Pathanamthitta district CPI-M Secretary.

Abraham who has a huge following in the district and has been the legislator from the Ranni assembly constituency from 1996 till 2021, does not fall into the good books of Vijayan and that was one reason he was not given the chance to contest the April Lok Sabha elections from the Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha constituency.

Earlier, veteran woman leader and former minister J Mercykutty, who served in the 2016-21 Pinarayi Vijayan cabinet, was billed for the post of district Secretary in Kollam, but, at the last minute, this failed to happen when the decision came that the incumbent district secretary was chosen to continue for a second three-year term.

After Mercykutty failed to enter the party record books, hopes were high that George would but now with that also failing to happen, all eyes are on the remaining district committee meetings to see if a woman will be named. It remains to be seen whether Shailaja, the popular legislator from Kannur, will get the chance to become the first woman district committee Secretary.

At present, the 17-member state secretariat has only one woman, while there are two women from Kerala in the Central Committee.

The newly formed Central Committee is expected to elect a new Politburo at the upcoming 24th Party Congress in Madurai in 2025. While the CPI-M, which often speaks about gender neutrality, has yet to appoint a woman to a top post in the state, the Congress in Kerala can take pride in having appointed Srikutty Malu Amma as state party President in 1952.

DMK Govt Arrests AIADMK Members, TVK Cadre For Protesting Anna University Sexual Assault Case; ‘Who Is That Sir?’ Question Leads To Crackdown

DMK Govt Arrests AIADMK Members, TVK Cadre For Protesting Anna University Sexual Assault Case; 'Who Is That Sir?' Question Leads To Crackdown

In a series of arrests, the DMK government has detained several individuals from the AIADMK and Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) who protested over the Anna University sexual assault case by posting posters in prominent locations across the state with the message, “Who is that ‘Sir’? #Save our daughters.” These posters were displayed in Karur, Chennai, and Coimbatore. However, the police have actively torn down the posters and prevented cadres from putting up any such banners.

Karur Town police have registered a case against two daily wage laborers, Selvaraghavan, 64, and Mani, 64, for pasting a poster on the wall of the Karur-Coimbatore Road Electricity Board Supervising Engineer’s office and teared down the poster.

This action by the DMK has been heavily criticized on social media. The AIADMK IT wing president, Kovai Sathyan, condemned it on his social media X account, stating, “It is the job of the DMK’s police department to stop the poster that says, ‘Who is that sir?’ and to arrest the person who posted the video of the chappal beating. #Who_is_that_sir. It could be Ma Su. Ma Su means bad. A person who is in contact with a sex offender is Ma Su (bad), right?”

Similar to the AIADMK cadres’ arrests, women from the actor turned politician Vijay’s TVK were arrested for distributing pamphlets containing a handwritten letter by Vijay condemning the assault case at the entrance of VR Mall, Koyambedu, Chennai. They aimed to raise awareness about the sexual assault incident on the Anna University campus. Similarly, members of the women’s wing of the Karur District Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam were questioned and arrested after presenting the letter in front of the Karur Government Arts College gate. The police raised concerns about the unauthorized distribution of the letter, causing a stir in the area.
