However, this very portrayal raises two critical questions: Is the Dravidianist media genuinely enthusiastic about Vijay’s political entry, or is the ruling DMK unconcerned about TVK’s promotion because it serves their interests? Vijay’s political journey has been marked by striking ideological parallels to the DMK, prompting serious doubts about whether TVK is a genuine alternative or merely a strategic extension of the DMK, aimed at fragmenting the anti-DMK vote base considering the genuine rise of the BJP under the leadership of Annamalai and Naam Tamilar Party under the leadership of Seeman.

From mirroring DMK’s ideological framework to aligning with its minority appeasement tactics, Vijay’s party appears to be a shadow force, reinforcing the Dravidian party’s influence rather than challenging it. His selective political stances, scripted opposition to central government policies, and reluctance to confront the DMK on critical issues suggest a calculated move to consolidate votes that would otherwise go to genuine opposition parties.

Is Vijay’s entry into politics a fresh alternative, or is TVK just another cog in the DMK’s grand electoral strategy? Let’s break it down.

Copy-Paste Politics: Vijay’s TVK Mirrors DMK’s Ideology

A closer look at actor-turned-politician Vijay’s ideological stance reveals that his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has merely replicated the core principles of the DMK. From his very first press conference, Vijay described TVK’s ideology as centered around secular social justice and positioned the party as left-leaning with a Dravidian outlook. The fountain head of Hindu-hate and Dravidianist demagogue EV Ramasamy Naicker (hailed as ‘Periyar’ by his followers) is the ideological head of both DMK and TVK.

Vijay too has emphasized that TVK would uphold values such as the two-language policy, social justice, secularism (read pseudo-secularism), socialism, the same that DMK keeps mouthing.

Vijay’s political rhetoric appears to be a direct copy-paste from DMK’s ideological blueprint, raising questions about whether TVK truly brings anything new to Tamil Nadu’s political landscape or if it’s merely a repackaged glossier version of the existing DMK.

If you believe that Vijay has merely copied DMK’s ideology and see nothing wrong with it, then you’re missing the bigger picture. Since the inception of his party, Vijay’s agenda has been to reinforce the DMK’s narrative, echoing its policies without hesitation—while paradoxically claiming that the DMK is his political opponent. But does Vijay truly consider the DMK his real political opponent? Let’s dissect his politics step by step and unravel the ‘new onion’ being put on display, starting with the most recent developments.

A Mirror Image Of DMK’s Minority Appeasement

Much like the DMK, Vijay seems to engage in minority appeasement, closely following the ruling party’s well-established tactics. From the moment he launched his party, TVK, his actions have subtly but unmistakably mirrored the DMK’s approach.

The Tilak Gimmick And Its Sudden Disappearance

Before his first official press conference, Vijay orchestrated a carefully crafted public appearance—a ‘meet and greet’ event where a woman applied a tilak on his forehead. This move was seemingly designed to project an image of religious inclusivity, subtly hinting that he embraced all faiths. Initially, his party letterhead even featured an image of him with the tilak. However, as time passed, all such Hindu symbolism vanished. His official portrait on the TVK letterhead was later replaced with a plain, tilak-free version of Vijay. This follows the DMK’s long-standing strategy of erasing Hindu identity from Tamil saints and historical figures, portraying them in neutral white robes while openly celebrating other religious symbols, such as the cross for Christianity or the kulla (skullcap) for Islam. This selective approach fosters minority appeasement while alienating the Hindu majority.

Muslim Appeasement: A Page From The DMK Playbook

Another notable pattern in Vijay’s political journey is his strategic milking on Muslim representation. Whether on stage at political events or during award functions, he consistently ensures the presence of burqa-clad Muslim women near him, reinforcing a visual appeal to the Muslim community. This tactic aligns with the DMK’s longstanding approach of courting the Muslim vote bank through targeted outreach.

Vijay further demonstrated this alignment when he actively participated in an Iftar event during Ramadan, donning a kulla, a white shirt, and a veshti—an unmistakable visual gesture of solidarity with the Muslim community. This move is a direct reflection of the DMK’s history of religious posturing to secure minority votes.

Here are some sample of the DMK’s signature approach to minority appeasement, particularly towards the Muslim community.

Christian Appeasement And Political Simping

Christian appeasement comes naturally to the DMK, with leaders like Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin openly identifying as Christian. Of course, he balances it with his signature doublespeak, claiming, “I’m a Hindu for those who see me as Hindu, a Muslim for those who see me as Muslim, and a Christian for those who see me as Christian.”

DMK Speaker Appavu even made controversial remarks crediting Tamil Nadu’s progress to Christians, claiming that without them, the state would have turned into Bihar. Vijay, a Christian himself, has followed this pattern seamlessly.

His religious identity became more politically evident in 2017 when he actively branded himself as “Joseph Vijay,” a move widely seen as an effort to consolidate Christian support. Taking it a step further, he appointed key Christian figures to crucial roles within his party, such as John Arokiasamy and Aadhav Arjuna (the son-in-law of controversial lottery businessman Martin).

The Vote Bank Strategy A Calculated Move

Census data in Tamil Nadu clearly indicates the size and influence of minority communities. Political parties that cater to these groups can often secure their unwavering support 15-20%, leading to a bloc vote with minimal fragmentation. The DMK has mastered this strategy over decades, and now Vijay appears to be following suit, carving out his own share of the minority vote while remaining firmly within the broader DMK ideological framework. The DMK, in turn, seems to tolerate Vijay’s rise, recognizing that even if he gains influence, he will never function as an anti-DMK force. Instead, he remains a mere shadow of the ruling party, reinforcing its political dominance rather than challenging it.

Vijay’s TVK Substituting DMK To Become TN’s New Anti-Development Force

If the question is whether Vijay is merely whether as the DMK in opposition mode, the answer is a clear yes. Vijay’s TVK, with its anti-progressive stance, is clearly adopting policies that mirror those of the DMK’s opposition era. His rhetoric, aimed at influencing the youth and parents, closely follows the same strategy employed by Dravidian ideologies for years. For instance, he opposes development projects like the proposed Parandur airport, champions an anti-NEET mindset, advocates for a two-language policy with a particular focus on opposing Hindi, and pushes for policies that disadvantage poor and marginalized students, particularly those in government schools. Additionally, his opposition to the National Education Policy, which seeks to establish a pan-India education standard, and his stance on the Citizenship Amendment Act echo similar opposition tactics used by the DMK in the past. The DMK, while in opposition, exploited these issues to rally the public by claiming the ability to secure people’s rights from the central government presenting a false dichotomy but after coming to power showed bare hands claiming that only the central government holds the power. Now, Vijay, the part-time, work-from-home politician, seems to be using the same strategy to manipulate public sentiment ultimately fooling the people with a similar political game.

In this backdrop, below are some of his political stunts that highlight his dual role — both as an opposition figure to the DMK and as a shadow of it, mirroring their strategies with the approach of “one punch in the coconut tree, one punch in the palm tree,” skillfully balancing his criticisms of both the central and state governments without upsetting either’s sentiments

Both Oppose Infrastructure Projects

Vijay, during his visit to Parandur, alleged that the proposed airport would destroy 90% of farmland and 13 water bodies, calling the project “anti-people.“ He also questioned why the DMK, which had opposed projects like the Salem eight-lane expressway and Kattupalli port, was supporting the Parandur airport. However, a closer look at the Airports Authority of India (AAI) pre-feasibility report and the Tamil Nadu government’s decision-making process reveals that Vijay’s statements are either misleading or based on incomplete information.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) conducted a detailed study to identify the most suitable site for Chennai’s second airport, considering locations like Padalam, Thiruporur, Pannur, and Parandur. Parandur emerged as the best option due to factors such as airspace restrictions at other sites, availability of 5,369 acres of land, better connectivity through the Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway, and fewer displacements compared to Pannur. Additionally, Parandur offers significant potential for future development, unlike the more densely developed Pannur site. Vijay’s claims about the project destroying 90% of farmland and 13 water bodies lack substantiation and overlook the thorough environmental and social impact analysis in the AAI report. Critics suggest that Vijay’s opposition to the project is driven by political motives, with his visit to the protest site viewed as a publicity stunt. Aviation experts argue that Parandur is the most feasible site for the airport, and relocating the project would cause delays and increased costs.

A similar approach was taken by the DMK in 2019 when it criticized the AIADMK government while in the opposition, but once it came to power, the party acknowledged the airport as a crucial need for the state’s economy.

Both Oppose NEET

During the executive committee meeting in Panaiyur on 3 November 2024, which was presided over by Vijay, a resolution was passed calling for the abolition of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). This comes despite data indicating that more underprivileged students, including those from tribal communities, have been able to secure medical seats through the exam in recent years.

Even the DMK, which had previously claimed to have the ‘Secret Weapon’ to make the central government to abolish NEET, switched its stance when Chief Minister MK Stalin admitted in a recent assembly speech that the central government holds the power to revoke NEET, contradicting earlier claims. TVK’s Vijay holds a similar stance on abolishing the exam, and it remains to be seen whether he will reverse his position like the DMK in the next NEET exam season.

Both Call For Abolition Of Governor Post

TVK’s resolutions on 3 November 2024 reiterated their stance on abolishing the Governor’s post. However, in the wake of the sexual harassment case at Anna University, which allegedly involved a DMK functionary, and widespread speculation that the DMK might protect the accused, TVK party chief Vijay sought the Governor’s intervention. It seems that Vijay has now come to recognize the importance of having a neutral figure above the government, capable of questioning the state’s actions when constitutional mechanisms fail. Previously, however, without fully understanding the role and significance of the office, he had called for the abolition of the Governor’s post, which was both impractical and unconstitutional. This stance has been a hallmark of the DMK since its inception, with the party’s founder C.N. Annadurai famously describing the position of Governor as “redundant as a goat’s beard.” This sentiment continues to this day, as evidenced in the 2024 Lok Sabha election manifesto, where the DMK again called for the abolition of the Governor’s post.

Similarly, in January 2024, Udhayanidhi Stalin, the current Deputy Chief Minister and scion of the DMK, led the party’s Youth Wing in passing a resolution calling for the abolition of the Governor’s post in Tamil Nadu. The resolution argued that the governor was attempting to run a parallel administration, undermining the authority of the state’s elected representatives. The resolution, passed at the 2nd DMK Youth Wing Meet, asserted that abolishing the position of Governor was essential to safeguard democracy.

Both Oppose Three-Language Policy

Vijay has strongly opposed the three-language policy, despite his own son, Jason Sanjay, studying at the American International School in Chennai, where languages like French, Spanish, and Korean are offered alongside English. In some IB schools, students also have the option to choose Hindi. The rationale behind the three-language policy is to provide marginalized students— even many of whom currently lack access to government schools—a chance to learn a third language. This would enable them to pursue careers as translators, communicators, and open doors to international job opportunities.

However, Vijay, along with other Dravidian leaders and the DMK, oppose marginalized students to venture beyond Tamil Nadu. They seem to believe these students should remain confined to the state, study locally, and take on menial jobs, ultimately serving as a political vote base through emotional appeals. The hypocrisy lies in the fact that this “two-language policy” exception doesn’t apply to Matriculation, CBSE, or international boards, which offer a wider array of language options. Yet, Vijay appears intent on following this same narrow-minded stance.

Even more surprisingly, just like DMK leaders and their allies who own CBSE schools that promote multilingual education, Vijay’s own CBSE school, Vijay Vidyashram, proudly boasts and celebrate Hindi—the very language they publicly oppose.

Both Depict Wrong Map of India

On 23 October 2024, the DMK’s NRI wing sparked controversy by sharing a post on the social media platform X that featured an inaccurate map of India, wrongly depicting parts of Jammu and Kashmir as belonging to Pakistan and China. After facing severe backlash, the post was later altered.

Following the DMK’s book keeping principle, at a book launch event titled “Ambedkar: A Leader for All,” held in Chennai on 6 December 2024, to commemorate Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s death anniversary, another similar controversy arose. Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay attended the event, where an incorrect map of India—this time omitting Aksai Chin—was deliberately displayed.

Both Opposed Central Govt On Other Matters

TVK chief Vijay has adopted a stance similar to that of the DMK, opposing any initiatives proposed by the central government. DMK chief and Chief Minister MK Stalin argued that the legislation posed a threat to “alter India’s polity forever.” Similarly, during the TVK party resolution, Vijay strongly opposed the “one nation, one election” proposal, criticizing it as an anti-democratic move by the BJP-led Union government.

In addition, TVK has mirrored the DMK’s tendency to pander to Islamist interests. The party has called for the withdrawal of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill amid reports of vast areas of land and entire villages being claimed by the Waqf Board.

Finally, in a recent development regarding the delimitation issue, DMK leader M.K. Stalin brought it into the spotlight on 25 February 2025, describing it as a “sword dangling over the southern states” following a state cabinet meeting. Shortly after, TVK chief Vijay stepped in to reinforce the DMK’s stance, penning a lengthy five-page letter opposing the imaginary upcoming delimitation process on 5 March 2025. However, a closer look reveals that his arguments are merely a recycled version of the DMK’s well-worn narratives.

Deliberate Neglecting Hindu Interest

Despite actor-turned-part-time politician, Vijay has shifted his stance from deliberately avoiding wishes for Hindu festivals while extending greetings for festivals of other religions. This pattern aligns with the DMK’s approach and was widely criticized. It was only after facing backlash that Vijay eventually acknowledged Saraswati Pooja. Notably, during his party’s first conference, he stated that while he follows E.V.R. Periyar’s principles, he does not adhere to atheism—an important aspect of his political trajectory.

His recent gestures to extend wishes for Hindu festivals on these auspicious occasions signal a positive step toward treating equally all faiths and moving beyond Dravidian narratives.

Previously, TVK chief Vijay faced significant backlash for skipping wishes for Hindu festivals and Tamil New Year in Tamil Nadu while extending greetings for Onam, a Hindu festival celebrated in Kerala. This inconsistency did not go unnoticed, and he was criticized for hypocrisy, drawing parallels to the DMK’s approach.

Here is a list of political stunts he has engaged in since launching his new party, primarily consisting of online gestures that send indirect messages.

Not Wishing For Vinayakar Chaturthi

Vijay did not acknowledge or wish the people of the state for Vinayakar Chaturthi, a festival celebrated by 87.58% of the Hindu population. Kollywood actor and TVK chief Vijay appeared to be deliberately avoiding respecting the cultural values and beliefs of Hindus and Tamils. His selective social media posts on his official X account support this accusation. 

Not Wishing For Tamil New Year (Puthandu)

Instead of wishing for Tamil New Year which is a significant festival for Hindus in Tamil Nadu, Vijay chose to wish his fans and followers for Ambedkar Jayanti, which coincidentally falls on the same day. This is the same strategy employed by the DMK on the auspicious occasion of Hindu celebrations and festivals such as Vinayakar Chaturthi, Saraswathi Pooja, and other festive occasions. 

No Wishes For Krishna Jayanti

Vijay cautiously neglected even the Hindu festival of Krishna Jayanthi on 26 August 2024.

Wishing For Onam

Surprisingly, as if making a statement to reach out to his Malayali fans and followers, Vijay wished for the Onam festival.  It’s noteworthy that DMK (MK Stalin) also had wished for Onam last year. On 15 September 2024, TVK chief Vijay shared Onam wishes on his official X account, stating, “Happy #Onam from the bottom of my heart to all Malayalam relatives! A hearty Onam to my very own Malayali friends.”

Wishing For Christian, Muslim Festivals & Other Special Days

He has acknowledged and wished for Muslim festivals like Ramzan and Eid, Christian festivals like Easter, as well as neutral days such as May 1 (Labour Day), Ambedkar Jayanti, Independence Day, and Mother’s Day.

Conclusion

From the above, one could infer that Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) appears to be less of a genuine political alternative and more of a tactical extension of the DMK, closely aligning with its ideological stance and strategies. His selective opposition, stance on key issues, and apparent minority appeasement suggest that TVK is reinforcing the Dravidianist narrative rather than challenging it. By mimicking the DMK’s policies and rhetoric while maintaining a strategic distance, Vijay’s political entry raises questions about whether he genuinely seeks to challenge the ruling party or merely act as a tool to fragment the anti-DMK vote base. Ultimately, TVK’s rise seems to serve the interests of the DMK more than it threatens them, potentially eroding the vote share of other opposition parties while ensuring a split in anti-DMK votes without significantly harming the ruling party and its allies.

What Kamal Haasan was in 2021, Vijay is for 2026—a carefully crafted DMK’s political project. Kamal too claimed himself to be an alternative to both DMK and AIADMK. He too vociferously opposed the DMK like Vijay does today and even broke televisions with his torch light. But Kamal ultimately found himself at the gates of Arivalayam, reduced to a lickspittle of the DMK. Vijay, too, is treading the same path, set to become yet another pawn in the DMK’s grand scheme.

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Janasena Party founder, Pawan Kalyan, has criticized pseudo-secularists for fueling communalism in India, claiming their silence and political motivations harm the country’s unity. He argued that true secularism should be practiced in its purest form, not manipulated for vote bank politics. “I am even ready to die for Bharat,” Kalyan asserted.

Addressing the 12th Foundation Day event of his party in Pithapuram, Kalyan emphasized his role as a staunch supporter of Sanatan Dharma and highlighted his party’s resilience in overcoming multiple challenges. He reflected on the formation of the Janasena Party in 2014, noting that it began as a solo endeavor, and expressed his commitment to nurturing 100 influential leaders from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana who could make a significant impact on the country.

“Our party faced tough odds, but we stood strong. Even after the loss in 2019, we didn’t back down. We continued to uphold the Janasena, and we are now set to win all 21 seats we contested in the upcoming 2024 polls,” Kalyan remarked.

Kalyan reaffirmed that his ideology is based on unity in diversity, with Sanatan Dharma (Hinduism) as a core belief. He argued that communalism in India is a consequence of “pseudo-secularism,” pointing to historical examples of Hindu-Muslim unity, including the contributions of Hindu kings like those of the Vijayanagara empire. He said, “Because of Sanatana Dharma, the Vijayanagara kings built a mosque. Because of Sanatana Dharma, they soaked Bangladesh with the blood of Hindus and liberated Bangladesh. If you know this history, how many of you know the difficulties of partition? You shout movies, movies, movies, you get drunk there. You don’t want me to drink there. I am a fan of Amitabh, I am a fan of Chiranjeevi, but I am a bigger fan of the country.“

Kalyan went on to criticize the role of secularism in contemporary politics, particularly the inconsistent application of justice. He called out the double standards of certain politicians who condemn wrongdoings based on religious identity, while refusing to take action against those who incite violence. He said, “I once asked a senior leader in Visag what I asked was what is secularism, what is the true meaning of secularism. And so the word came up. What I asked was if a Hindu commits a mistake, condemn him, if he betrays a Muslim, condemn him, punish him. Similarly, if a Muslim hates a Hindu and attacks him, punish them both. The punishment is the same. Otherwise, if we do this, we’ll lose votes; if we do that, we lose votes. They are politicizing the votes for this very reason. Why are they hyping this up? It’s because of this. Because of pseudo secularists. This is happening today. Because of you, pseudo secularists. Because of you. If you applied in the true spirit there would have been no need for the changes what are there today because of your mistake.“

He stressed that true secularism must involve treating all communities equally and fairly, without political expediency. Pawan Kalyan said, “True secularism should be applied in its true spirit, not for damn convenient vote-bank politics. Don’t! Don’t do it! Jana Sena is not for it. We will declare wrong as wrong.” Strongly denouncing the attacks on Hindu traditions, he raised the question, “If idols of Lord Sri Ram are beheaded, Hindu gods are mocked with vulgar language, and deities like Goddess Lakshmi and Bathukamma are insulted, why is no one allowed to question it? But if a deity from another religion is insulted, ‘secularism’ suddenly becomes an issue. This hypocrisy is unacceptable.”

He also spoke passionately about the importance of respecting all religions, citing examples of how his beliefs are shaped by Sanatan Dharma’s teachings of respect and compassion. He emphasized the need for punishment when any individual or group commits violence, regardless of their religion, to prevent further division.

AIADMK’s Kalyanasundaram Exposes News 18 Tamil Nadu’s Editor-In-Chief Karthigaichelvan’s Bias, Here’s Proof That He’s Not A Neutral Journalist But A DMK Propagandist

AIADMK spokesperson Kalyanasundaram known for his fiery speeches and attacks on the DMK completely exposed the bias of the so-called journalist and chief editor of News 18 Tamil Nadu Karthigaichelvan.

In the channel’s primetime debate show ‘Sollathigaaram’ on the Tamil Nadu Budget 2025, Kalyanasundaram was trying to make a point about ‘Earned Leave Surrender System’ for state government employees when Karthigaichelvan interjected and said, “He’s talking about Surrender Leave. Who stopped it? What I’m asking is what did they promise in their election manifesto for government workers?”to which Karthigaichelvan interjected and asked “Did your (AIADMK) government stop it or not is what I’m asking? Okay.. You’re saying they (DMK) didn’t fulfil their promise.”

Irked by Karthigaichelvan’s intervention, Kalyanasundaram responded saying “Do you want my response or do you want me to support whatever he (DMK MLA I. Paranthamen) says and leave?” This statement of Kalyanasundaram seems to have unsettled News 18 Tamil Nadu Editor-in-Chief Karthigaichelvan.

Kalyanasundaram continued that in the first round of the debate itself he posed the question of the DMK government not fulfilling its promise to government workers. And just as he completed, Karthigaichelvan interjected again saying “I’m coming to you sir” repeatedly to which Kalyanasundaram angrily responded “You keep watching him (DMK spokesperson) talk but when I talk for every line you keep interjecting and saying – I’m coming to you, I’m coming to you. Tell me. You ask your question fully and then I’ll answer. He (DMK spokesperson) is blatantly talking lies and you allow that but you keep intervening whenever I talk.“

With Kalyanasundaram exposing the bias of Karthigaichelvan, the latter took to defend himself saying “I’m not asking you any question now. Whatever criticisms you have against me, you say.” Kalyanasundaram further asked “Sir, don’t keep talking like this. Why do you want to do this (virtue-signalling) only during my chance?” to which Karthigaichelvan challenged that he never made any interventions during the first round.

Kalyanasundaram however pointed that Karthigaichelvan never dared to make an intervention when the DMK spokesperson was speaking and peddling lies. “You ask your questions first completely. I will respond later,” the AIADMK spokesperson thundered at Karthigaichelvan to which the latter responded that he can take the time he wants to convey his points and not cast aspersions on him.

“I don’t expect Kalyanasundaram to be like other people. He’s a very knowledgeable person. I am expecting your point of view. Both of you belong to main parties. Please come up with points. There’s nothing in criticising me,” said Karthigaichelvan.

“Why did you intervene now?” Kalyanasundaram asked once again to which Karthigaichelvan said “What I’m saying is, criticisms against me is unwarranted and that I was coming to ask about your point only.” The News 18 Tamil Nadu Editor-In-Chief kept on justifying that he didn’t intervene at all.

Why Karthigaichelvan Is A DMK-Buttressing Propagandist?

Karthigalchelvan is a Dravidian propagandist journalist and a Modi-baiter. He has come under fire for some of his buttressing attitude towards the DMK. He had a sycophantic interview with DMK scion Udhayanidhi Stalin in which he posed soft, easy and simping questions that felt more like scripted PR.

Pro-DMK Behaviour Exhibited By Karthigaichelvan

During a debate on News18 Tamil in June 2023, moderated by Karthigaichelvan, when one of the panelists Advocate Tamil Mani accused Senthil Balaji of corruption, citing his admission to taking money for job placements. Karthigaichelvan defended Senthil Balaji, claiming the ongoing case made labeling him corrupt premature. Despite a DMK spokesperson’s insults, Karthigaichelvan tried to maintain neutrality, softly condemning Saravanan from DMK towards the end.

During a News18 Tamil Nadu debate in October 2022, Karthigaichelvan and DMK spokesperson Constantine Raveendran faced criticism for allegedly protecting CM MK Stalin over a fake news claim related to the Sterlite protest firing. Hindu Munnani’s A.T. Elangovan pointed out the incident where Stalin falsely implicated PM Modi, but Raveendran demanded proof, limiting Elangovan’s response. Karthigaichelvan claimed ignorance and declined to express an opinion. 

Modi Hate

In the past, Karthigaichelvan had consistently expressed animosity towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In 2015, he shared a derogatory cartoon (now deleted) suggesting that the Union Government, led by Narendra Modi, was influenced by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Karthigaichelvan shared cartoons mocking PM Modi, implying he acts as per Hindu or secular sentiments. One cartoon depicted Modi hitch-hiking on Karunanidhi’s wheelchair during a courtesy visit. Another mocked Digital India, accompanied by a euphoric caption “Hahahaha.”

Once he was called out by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for deliberately trying to peddle anti-Modi propaganda saying that the Centre was waiving off loans taken by corporates.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted widespread searches across Tamil Nadu on March 6, 2025 investigating large-scale financial irregularities linked to the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC). The operation, carried out under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, uncovered a deep-rooted network of bribery, kickbacks, and systematic corruption amounting to a ₹1,000 Crore Scam. However not one news card was shared by him.

Amid the ongoing debate over the three-language policy, the ruling DMK and its ministers appear determined to justify the government’s stance. However, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi went a step further by making a misleading claim that Tamil Nadu is the only state in India to have allocated ₹55,000 crore solely for education.

This statement contradicts the reality that states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar have spent more than ₹55,000 crore on education, directly challenging the minister’s assertion. His claim, seemingly made to reinforce DMK’s position, backfired and triggered a heated online debate over its accuracy.

Speaking at the ‘Rights of State Education’ convention organized by the Students Federation of India (SFI), DMK School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi highlighted the increasing budget allocation for education under the current government. He stated, “After the change of government, the allocation started at ₹32,000 crores and increased to ₹36,000 crores, ₹40,000 crores, and ₹44,000 crores. Yesterday, regardless of the number of departments, it was confirmed that ₹46,767 crores were allocated to a single department, specifically our school education department. Additionally, ₹8,000 crores were allocated for higher education, bringing Tamil Nadu’s total education budget to ₹55,000 crores. We take pride in being the state that allocated the most funds in India.”

Contradicting DMK School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi’s claim, the Bihar government presented its 2025-26 budget on 3 March 2025, with a total estimated expenditure of ₹3,16,895.02 crore. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, who also oversees the finance portfolio, announced that the state would allocate ₹60,954 crore for education—a figure exceeding the ₹55,000 crore claimed by Anbil Mahesh for Tamil Nadu.

Similarly, in Maharashtra, while no new schemes or initiatives were introduced, the state budget allocated ₹83.11 crore for education under the School Education and Sports Department—an increase from the ₹75.57 crore allocated in the 2024-25 revised estimates.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh’s 2025-26 budget allocated a substantial ₹1.06 lakh crore for education, further disproving Anbil Mahesh’s assertion.

Now, the DMK minister’s claim that Tamil Nadu has the highest education budget in India at ₹55,000 crore is facing widespread ridicule on social media, with statistics proving otherwise.

Chidambaram MP and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thol Thirumavalavan indirectly criticized Tamilaga Vettri Kalagam chief and part-time politician Vijay, asserting that no one can weaken the VCK.

Addressing a public meeting in Vizhupuram, Thirumavalavan spoke about the notion that each time an actor enters politics, there are claims that it will weaken the VCK. He recalled similar predictions when Vijayakanth launched his party but emphasized that the VCK has remained strong despite such assumptions.

He stated that no matter how influential a new political entrant may be, they cannot shake the foundation of the VCK, which is built on unique principles and ideology. Dismissing the idea that youth would blindly follow a film star, he remarked that if they were to do so like a flock of sheep, he would not need such youth in his party. Only those who understand the ideals of Ambedkar, Periyar, and Karl Marx and stand by him can be true warriors of the VCK, he added.

Thirumavalavan said, “Whenever actors start a party, they write a message in the media. When Vijayakanth started his party, there were those who said that the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal would be weakened. There were those who discussed it in the media. But Viduthalai Chiruthaigal has continued to exist in this field with its uniqueness and vigor. History has shown that whoever starts new parties, no matter how influential they are, they cannot damage the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal. The reason is that the field of this movement is completely new. The principles of this movement are completely new. On that basis, there is a connection and bond between Thirumavalavan and his movement comrades. Therefore, I said at that time that no one can change the direction of these youth through the charm of cinema. Time has shown that it is true. Today, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal has been recognized as a state party. They still say that an actor has started a party. All these youths will turn to that side like flocks of sheep. If the youths turn towards an actor like that, then Thirumavalavan does not need such those youths. The party’s specialty should be filtering out such youth. Those who are committed to the principles of the revolutionary Ambedkar, who accept the father of rationalism, Periyar, who understands Karl Marx who gave the theory for the liberation of the proletariat, and who travel with Thirumavalavan can be the real tigers. They are the ones I need. They are the ones who can always travel with me.“

Thirumavalavan highlighted that for 25 years, the VCK has maintained its momentum without any decline. He refuted claims that the party’s success is solely due to alliances with DMK or AIADMK, pointing out that other parties like PMK, MDMK, and DMDK have also aligned with major parties based on their influence. However, he stressed that VCK’s alliances are based on their commitment to policies rather than mere electoral gains.

Speaking about political recognition, he noted that while new actors entering politics are immediately projected as future Chief Ministers despite not contesting elections, he himself was not given similar recognition even after earning significant votes. The VCK, which was officially registered as an electoral party in 2006, has now achieved state party status. He reiterated that the party prioritizes its principles over the number of constituencies it contests and remains committed to ensuring that ‘communal forces’ do not gain dominance.

Concluding his speech, Thirumavalavan asserted that VCK’s ultimate goal is to gain a rightful share in governance and power, with the dream of one day hoisting its flag in at Fort St. George.

DMK Municipality Chairwoman’s Son Sharook Khan’s Vehicles Seized For Illegal Mining And Smuggling Resources To Kerala

In a major crackdown on illegal mineral smuggling in Coimbatore, officials from the Geology and Mining Department, alongside the local authorities, seized three heavy vehicles involved in the illegal transportation of minerals.

The operation to combat illegal mining activities in the Madukkarai and Kinathukadavu areas of Coimbatore is being intensified in response to numerous complaints about the illegal smuggling of natural resources from these regions to Kerala. Following instructions from the Additional Chief Secretary of the Natural Resources Department, Phanindra Reddy, and the Commissioner of the Geology and Mining Department, Saravana Velraj, a series of inspections were conducted. Key personnel involved in the inspections included Salem Zonal Joint Director Sumathi, Assistant Geologist of Coimbatore Geology and Mining Department, Sandhya Anthony Mary, and Special Revenue Inspector Kumar.

On 14th March 2025, a team of government officials conducted vehicle inspections on the Palathurai – Thirumalaiyampalayam road near Madukkarai, Coimbatore. During the inspection, two tipper trucks were stopped and thoroughly searched. The investigation revealed that both trucks were illegally transporting six units of minerals without the necessary permits. Additionally, essential documents, such as online permits and driving licenses, were found to be missing. Upon noticing the authorities, the driver and an accomplice fled the scene. As a result, both trucks were seized by the officers. Further investigation revealed that the heavy vehicles belonged to Sharook Khan, the son of Madukkarai DMK Municipality Chairwoman Noorjahan Naser. A case has been registered in connection with the incident.

In a similar operation in Kinathukadavu, another tipper truck, also found to be carrying minerals illegally without proper documentation, was seized and handed over to the police. Officials have emphasized that this action is part of a broader effort to combat illegal mineral smuggling, with plans for further intensification of operations targeting those involved in such activities.

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan entered the ongoing language debate by accusing Tamil Nadu of hypocrisy. He pointed out that while Tamil Nadu’s leaders oppose the use of Hindi, they permit Tamil films to be dubbed in Hindi for financial gain. Speaking on the occasion of his party’s foundation day, Kalyan emphasized that India requires multiple languages, including Tamil, for national unity.

During the Jana Sena’s 12th Foundation Day event in Pithapuram, Kalyan remarked, “I do not understand why some criticize Sanskrit. Why do Tamil Nadu politicians oppose Hindi while allowing their movies to be dubbed in Hindi for financial gain? They want money from Bollywood but refuse to accept Hindi—what kind of logic is that?“

Kalyan also criticized DMK government in Tamil Nadu for its “unfair” treatment of workers from Hindi-speaking regions like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. He highlighted that Tamil Nadu hosts a large number of migrant workers from these states, as well as from West Bengal and Haryana, with estimates suggesting that between 15 to 20 lakh workers reside there.

“They seek revenue from Hindi-speaking states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh, but still claim they don’t want Hindi. Isn’t that contradictory? They welcome workers from Bihar but reject the language. Why is there such a contradiction? Shouldn’t this attitude change?“ Kalyan further questioned.

His comments come amid a heated dispute between the BJP-led Centre and the DMK government in Tamil Nadu over the ‘three-language formula’ introduced in the New Education Policy. Tensions escalated when the Centre withheld ₹2,152 crore allocated for Tamil Nadu’s PM SHRI scheme, citing the state’s refusal to implement the scheme.

Tamil Nadu has long opposed the ‘three-language formula,’ perceiving it as an attempt to impose Hindi, while the Centre maintains that the policy aims to equip youth with the language skills needed for broader employment opportunities.

Teacher Arrested In Salem For Supporting Centre’s Three-Language Policy

In a blatant act of suppressing dissent, a teacher in Salem has been arrested for expressing support for the three-language policy on social media.

Kaliyuga Kannan, a resident of Gorimedu, Salem, who runs a tutorial college and a NEET coaching center, had posted about Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s statement, encouraging students to learn multiple languages to enhance their skills. Kannan also voiced his support for the central government’s trilingual policy while criticizing the Tamil Nadu government’s contradictory stance on the issue.

Following his post, the cybercrime police registered a case against him under five different sections, including charges of disturbing public peace and defamation. He was subsequently presented in court and remanded to Salem Central Jail. His sudden arrest, particularly during the ongoing public examinations, has left his students shocked and concerned.

Speaking to the media, the daughter of Kaliyuga Kannan, who was arrested, expressed her distress, saying, “My father had posted on Twitter in support of the three-language policy. For that, the cybercrime police arrested him around 2 PM. Even though we assured them of our full cooperation, they were treating him harshly. We demand justice for this! How can someone be arrested over a simple comment? We are two daughters still studying. With the 12th exams approaching, do they realize how many students rely on my father?”

“You Don’t Even Bathe, They Produce Kids Like Pigs”: Congress Ally DMK Minister Duraimurugan Spews Hate Against North Indians

The ruling DMK has always harboured resentment towards the Hindi language, and whenever given the opportunity, it has made slurs, derogatory remarks, and spread hate not only against the language but also against Hindi-speaking people of North India. Likewise, this time, DMK General Secretary and Minister for Water Resources, Duraimurugan, expressed his hostility towards Hindi-speaking people during a DMK public meeting in Chennai East District, Thiru. V.K. Nagar North Area, on 11 March, while celebrating Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s birthday.

He called the Hindi language as “peeda”, a Tamil slur word which means bad omen. Duraimurugan, stated that learning Hindi would bring dosham(inauspiciousness), theetu (impurity), and misfortune. “From that time on, we have been opposing it. If we say we are opposing, it is not the language itself that we oppose. In our community, there are people who learn multiple languages—multilingual poets. However, if you study this particular language, you will face Dosham (inauspiciousness), Theetu(impurity), and misfortune. If you study English, you will go up (progress), but if you study Hindi, you will go down (decline).”

He further said, “No matter how much you learn Hindi, you cannot speak like them. Even though I know to speak Telugu, I cannot speak like them (Telugu people). We can speak, but we cannot speak like them. Likewise, what I said in the beginning, the abolition of Hindi means… Keep one thing in mind… Consider a man who is at home with his wife and having children and has brought a saraku (a courtesan or a second wife), do you understand the implication? Say, he has brought a second wife then they (the first wife) will lose her privilege and the second wife will be given preference. Likewise, what did he do? He tried to impose on us and we said no.“

Then he claimed that North Indians call us barbarians. He said, “He says we are barbarians. North Indians dare to call us barbarians! We are at the pinnacle of civilization. We were the ones who wove clothes from rat hair and sent them to Greece, Persia, and the Far East. Our kings crossed the seas and raised our flag as far as Vietnam. We are the ones who studied Agam and Puram, who delved into Kalingathuparani and Tolkappiyam, the scholars of literature, the creators of civilization, the practitioners of hygiene. And yet, a minister looks at us and calls us barbarians? Hey, you are nothing but a person who doesn’t even bathe—nothing more! You don’t bathe.“

To substantiate his point and mock North Indians, Duraimurugan, the General Secretary of the DMK, shared a story. He recounted that a man once tied a bull and announced that anyone who touched it would receive 1,000 rupees. A few people attempted but stopped halfway, saying they couldn’t do the task and turned back. “Then, a North Indian was asked to do the same—go, touch the bull, and return. As he approached the bull, however, the bull suddenly pulled away and ran off. The reason? The bull itself had wounds and was reeking, and our men (Tamils), unable to tolerate the smell, backed away. But in a twist, the bull fled—not because of its own stench, but because it couldn’t bear the stench of the North Indian!”, he said.

Even he goes on to ridicule North Indians, equating them to pigs and piglets for having many children, exercising his individual right. However, the DMK minister and general secretary, whose party advocates for individual rights, mocks them by saying, “Our guy says ‘we two, ours one,’ but he (North Indians) has produced (kids) like pigs there.“

‘How Stupid Can You Become?’: Annamalai Slams DMK Over Rupee ₹ Symbol Replacement With ரூ

The Tamil Nadu government has replaced the rupee symbol (₹) with the Tamil letter ரூ ‘Ru’ in promotional material for the 2025–26 state budget, set to be presented on Friday. The move has sparked a fresh political controversy, with the BJP accusing the ruling DMK of separatism and attempting to divert attention from governance failures.

The change was noticed after Chief Minister MK Stalin shared the new budget logo on social media platform X. Posters for last year’s budget included the rupee symbol, but no formal notice has been issued by the state government regarding the switch.

Rupee Symbol Was Designed By DMK Member’s Son

The BJP, however, sees the change as a deliberate attempt to distance Tamil Nadu from the rest of India. State BJP chief K Annamalai launched a scathing attack on CM Stalin. On his X handle, Annamalai wrote, “The DMK Government’s State Budget for 2025-26 replaces the Rupee Symbol designed by a Tamilian, which was adopted by the whole of Bharat and incorporated into our Currency. Thiru Udhay Kumar, who designed the symbol, is the son of a former DMK MLA. How stupid can you become, Thiru @mkstalin?”

 

In another post, Annamalai wrote, “TN State Planning Commission’s executive vice chairperson says the ₹ symbol was dropped because it was based on the Devanagari script. TN CM Thiru @mkstalin has surrounded himself with such nincompoops. Mere advertisements and meaningless decisions to hide incompetence: summary of the last four years of DMK. What the father endorsed; the son rejects.”

The controversy comes as Tamil Nadu gears up for a crucial election next year, where the DMK and AIADMK are expected to engage in a fierce battle, with the BJP looking to expand its influence in the state.

The symbol swap also plays into the larger political narrative surrounding the ongoing language dispute between the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government and the BJP-led central government.

NEP 2020: The Core Of The Clash

At the heart of the dispute is the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which mandates a three-language formula for school students. The DMK has strongly opposed this, insisting that Tamil Nadu’s two-language policy (Tamil and English) has worked well for decades.

CM Stalin has accused the Centre of using NEP to impose Hindi, branding it a “saffronisation policy” that will “destroy the Tamil Nadu education system”.

The BJP, however, argues that the three-language formula will help students by equipping them with an additional Indian language. The party has dismissed Tamil Nadu’s objections as politically motivated.
