Tamil Biography Of Veer Savarkar By BJP Leader SG Suryah Released, BJP National Gen Sec Org BL Santhosh Says Biggest Gap In TN Historical Nationalist Movement Literature Filled By Suryah

Tamil Biography Of Veer Savarkar By BJP Leader SG Suryah Released, BJP National Gen Sec Org BL Santhosh Says Biggest Gap In TN Historical Nationalist Movement Literature Filled By Suryah

The first-ever biography of legendary freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in Tamil, “Veer Savarkar: Oru Kalaga Kaaranin Kadhai (The Story Of Rebel),” written by BJP Tamil Nadu State Secretary Dr SG Suryah, was released on 4 January 2024 at a grand book launch event organized by Chennai Citizens’ Forum in Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai.

The book was launched by BJP National General Secretary (Organization) BL Santhosh with the copies being received by BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai, Coimbatore South BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan, journalists Rangaraj Pandey of Chanakyaa and Kolahala Srinivas.

The biography-cum-tribute by Dr. Suryah sheds light on Savarkar’s early days, his sacrifices, his work as a revolutionary, his contributions as a social reformer, his vision for a free India, and the ideas that has shaped India’s destiny.

Addressing a packed hall, senior BJP leader BL Santhosh said that Dr. Suryah has filled the biggest gap in Tamil historical nationalist movement literature.

Earlier also he had written a book on Veer Savarkar but that was more of a translation but this time he has written an elaborate book that gives a 360° view on Veer Savarkar’s legacy.” said BL Santhosh congratulating SG Suryah’s efforts.

The senior BJP leader further added “It is an irony that in the 75th year of Indian independence, we’ve to write a book on Veer Savarkar to show what he contributed to the freedom struggle. Everything in post-independent India was seen through a coloured glass. It is a trick played with history by the authors and sponsors of ‘tryst with destiny’. So, you’ve to search for Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s photo in Chennai or Subash Salai or Subash Bus Stand, etc where as every second road is named after Nehru and Indira, every third road is named after Rajiv Gandhi, every fourth road is supposedly named after Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi. You’ve to search for Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Savarkar, Sardar Patel, name. This is the irony of independent India. Names like Madan Lal Dhingra, Chandrasekhar Azad, Neelakanta Brahmachari are made to feel alien to us. We were made to believe that we got freedom only because a particular kind of movement, particular set of leaders. That movement is also respectable, those leaders should also be remembered but that doesn’t mean that Veer Savarkar can be relegated to the margins of freedom struggle history. Veer Savarkar can never be relegated to the margins when you’ve people like Suryah.

BL Santhosh further went on to enumerate the many firsts of Veer Savarkar saying “He was the first person to start burning foreign clothes. He was the first person whose book was banned in 2 foreign countries – Britain and France – before it got published. He was the first person whose book The India War Of Independence 1857 written in England was banned in India. You cannot find anyone whose 3 big works would’ve been banned. Many people got degree but he lost the degree he got. He discarded the barrister degree he got. When the British court sentenced him to life, he was the first political prisoner who stated that he will not accept British court at all. He was the first political prisoner to argue his case in International Court of Justice, Hague. He was the first person to be given 2 life sentences by a government which did not believe in rebirth. He was the first person whose name doesn’t even figure in school textbooks when we read about Indian freedom struggle.

He further narrated how Savarkar’s sister-in-law had written a letter to Savarkar about how all his brothers have been taken to jail and that he should atleast take care of himself. Savarkar is said to have responded saying that just like how only the best lotuses in the pond are offered to the God, so has his mother given birth to sons to be offered as sacrifice for Bharat Mata.

BL Santhosh also took jibes at those who tarnish Veer Savarkar for his clemency petitions saying there are many political leaders who fearing three days of arrest will apologize in court silently but comment on Savarkar who spent 27 years in the most difficult jail conditions.

Savarkar was put in a jail near the gallows so that he could hear the cries of the death-sentenced prisoners daily“, said BL Santhosh describing him as a man of steel.

Calling him the greatest magnet, the senior BJP leader said “Just as a magnet transforms any iron it touches into another magnet, Savarkar inspired and transformed everyone who came into contact with him into revolutionaries.“, narrating the episode of Madan Lal Dhingra who shot Curzon Wyllie to death.

Savarkar motivated people to join the Indian armed forces. While critics argued that this would only serve British interests during the Second World War, his strategic foresight ensured that the Indian army, navy, and air force became strong and well-staffed with Indians. This significant presence played a crucial role when India finally achieved independence“, BL Santhosh remarked.

He also noted how Savarkar ushered in social reforms to break casteism by building Patit Pavan Mandir where members of the discriminated caste were allowed to worship and perform rituals, leading temple entry movements, organizing Samapanthi Bhojan (community meal), having a Scheduled Caste member serve drinking water to all those who visit his house – all of which were way ahead of his time when orthodoxy prevailed.

BL Santhosh also noted how the then powers at be tried to implicate Savarkar for Gandhi’s murder though the only link between Savarkar and Nathuram Godse was Hindu Mahasabha. “If that would’ve been the case, then many others in Tamil Nadu would’ve also been implicated because of their many links. However the ecosystem never say that he was released by an order of court absolving him of all the allegations in Gandhi’s murder.

The senior BJP leader also emphasized that it is the duty and responsibility of all Indians in taking the history and legacy of Veer Savarkar to future young generations.

BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai who has written foreword for the book praised Suryah as an intellectual politician who is destined for greater roles in public life.

At such a young age, 34 years old, he has undergone a lot of personal struggles which no young person should go through. He is a man who is always seeking. He’s always in search of something, seeking something. Be it a press meet or representing BJP on stage, he’s always a well-prepared individual and thorough. So, him writing a book is not a surprise to me. Only a person who has seen ups and downs in life will have that strength in writing. This isn’t his first book. He’s written about how BJP won the north-east states, a biography on social worker Palam Kalyanasundaram titled ‘Man of the Millenium’, Veer Savarkar’s ‘My Transportation for Life’ has been translated into Tamil, and the latest book on Savarkar is Suryah’s original thoughts.” Annamalai said.

People write many books in Tamil Nadu. But Suryah has taken an unpopular leader and has placed the real persona of Savarkar in front of Tamil people. It’s no ordinary feat. He didn’t write it for the book to see some sales. Imagine the ideological conviction he has.“, Annamalai further added.

Annamalai then took to draw parallels between Veer Savarkar and Gandhi noting how the latter’s life was uneventful till the Pietermaritzburg incident where Gandhi was allegedly thrown off the train by the British for travelling in first class carriage.

He said that on the other hand, Savarkar’s life was on fire from the very beginning. “He removed his poonool (sacred thread janeu) to stand against caste discrimination. He broke barriers and made people of all caste to watch plays. He organized community meal samapanthi bojanam making people of all castes sit together and eat. He started an eatery in which he made a Brahmin and a Scheduled Caste as the owners giving them 50:50 share. All this he did before independence.

Annamalai then spoke about the revolutionary side of Savarkar saying England is such a land which turns people into rebels and urged people to read the book to know how India House changed the destiny of many.

He was given double life imprisonment – for killing Nashik Collector and for rising against the King of England at his prime years.“, Annamalai said urging people of all parties and ideologies to approach Savarkar with an open mind instead of engaging in mindless social media trolling.

You should visit the Cellular Jail when you visit Andaman. All these people fought for India not for a political party. You should look at the kind of punishments given to prisoners there. They had to bathe nude in front of everyone. This man had studied in prestigious colleges and lived in London. The jail system is designed to crush your soul. He was given the punishment of ‘standing in the stock’ where both your hands and legs are tied from the morning to evening daily for 10 hours. You can’t even attend to nature’s call that time.” Annamalai said.

Speaking about clemency petitions, Annamalai noted how not just Savarkar but also Communist leaders like SA Dange too made use of the available remedy to political prisoners who had spent some time in jail.

Annamalai also questioned whether Veer Savarkar was being tarnished because of his Chitpavan Brahmin identity adding that with this book Suryah has brought historical accuracy to a rainbow life of Savarkar.

Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan noted Suryah’s rise from a young enthusiastic student who visited her home eager to join the BJP to work for her to gradually rising in the party and inviting one of the most powerful person in the BJP to the book launch.

“At a time when BJP’s organizational elections are happening across the country, Shri. BL Santhosh ji has given his time to this event which is a great thing”, she said.

Vanathi Srinivasan noted that Veer Savarkar whose history and legacy has been wronged by a particular ecosystem is being corrected by Suryah through this book. She said that this book will counter the false campaign against Savarkar in Tamil Nadu and give a blow to Dravidian Model sympathizers who still harbour separatist ambitions.

The book is available for sale on Amazon.

SIT Probe In Anna University Sexual Assault Case: Victim Reiterates Gnanasekaran Mentioning About “Sir” On Call During Assault, Obscene Videos Involving Many Girl Students Unearthed

DMK Worker By Day, Biriyani Seller By Afternoon, Burglar By Night: Report Reveals Shocking Details Of Anna University Sexual Assault Culprit Gnanasekaran

In a new development in the Anna University campus sexual harassment case, the victim has told the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that the accused, Gnanasekaran, DMK functionary, was speaking on the phone during the assault, addressing someone as “Sir.” The SIT has reportedly identified another history-sheeter from Tiruppur in connection with the accused and is now investigating whether this individual has any ties to the case.

The Anna University campus sexual harassment case, which has sparked widespread outrage in Tamil Nadu, involves Gnanasekaran, who has already been arrested. In her complaint, the victim revealed that during the assault, the accused spoke to a person on the phone and referred to them as “Sir,” although she didn’t know their identity. With Gnanasekaran being the only individual arrested so far, the identity of the person on the other end of the line remains a critical question. This has led to public demands for answers, with opposition parties asking, “Who is that Sir?” A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been tasked with unraveling the mystery.

During their investigation, the SIT spoke to the victim, who reiterated that Gnanasekaran had made threats during the call, saying, “I will come after threatening her.” Authorities suspect the individual on the phone might be from Tiruppur and have a criminal background, leading them to plan an interrogation of this person in the coming days.

On 4 January, the SIT conducted a raid at Gnanasekaran’s residence, recovering crucial documents and a laptop, which investigators suspect was used to upload pornographic material. During their investigation, the team has identified four individuals, including women and students, who appear in some of the videos. Although many pornographic videos were found, only a few have been linked to identifiable victims. Authorities have assured that any victims who come forward will have their identities protected. This new development has added complexity to the case, prompting the SIT to broaden their inquiry into potential further illegal activities.

Background

On 23 December 2024, a woman, who was in a two-year relationship with a fellow student, was attacked while spending time with him at a secluded spot on campus.

Two unknown individuals approached the couple, assaulted the boyfriend, and sexually harassed the woman. The assailants forced her to strip, filmed her without consent, threatened her, and fled the scene. The traumatized victim later reported the incident to the Kotturpuram police.

In connection with the case, police have arrested 37-year-old Gnanasekaran, a roadside biryani vendor from Kotturpuram with multiple pending cases against him. The police have filed charges under Section 64 of the BNSS and are actively investigating the matter.

The victim also lodged a complaint with the university’s POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) committee. Meanwhile, the Chennai police, in collaboration with the university, are working to enhance campus security.

However, it came to light that the accused Gnanasekaran is a repeat offender and a DMK functionary. Pictures circulating on social media show him alongside several prominent DMK leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and Minister Ma. Subramanian.

FIR Reveals Shocking Details

The shocking details came to light after the All Women Police Station (AWPS) in Raja Annamalai Puram filed the FIR, which reveals a sequence of terrifying events that unfolded on 23 December 2024, within the Anna University campus.

The FIR states that Gnanasekaran filmed the survivor and her boyfriend on the campus before taking things to a terrifying level. He allegedly threatened to leak the footage to the university dean and the couple’s parents unless the student complied with his demands.
He then forcibly took the survivor to a secluded area behind the Highway Lab Building and the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) department building, where he presented her with three horrifying options: one, to be expelled from the university by the dean based on the footage he threatened to release; two, to “spend time” with him; and three, to “spend time” with another man who had reportedly called the accused before the assault.

The Assault

According to the FIR, after making these threats, Gnanasekaran sexually assaulted the survivor between 7:45 PM and 8:20 PM on 23 December 2024. He also took a picture of her college ID card and extracted her father’s contact information from her phone before fleeing the scene. The survivor, in her written complaint, described how Gnanasekaran had received a phone call from an unknown person, during which he mentioned threatening the girl and leaving her.

The police investigation revealed that Gnanasekaran is no stranger to criminal activity, with seven other pending cases against him, including charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for lurking house-trespass and theft. He has now been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections for rape and sexual harassment.

Three Arrested In Vikravandi St. Mary’s School Tragedy After 4-Year-Old Falls Into Uncovered Sewage Tank; Family Questions Inconsistencies In Incident

Three Arrested In Vikravandi St. Mary's School Tragedy After 4-Year-Old Falls Into Uncovered Sewage Tank; Family Questions Inconsistencies In Incident

On 4 January 2025, the Vikravandi police arrested three individuals, including the correspondent and principal of St. Mary’s Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Vikravandi, in connection with the tragic death of a four-year-old girl who fell into an uncovered septic tank on the school’s premises on 3 December 2025.

The arrested individuals were identified as the school’s correspondent, Emilda, principal, Dominique Mary, and class teacher, Angel.

The victim, Lia Lakshmi, was the daughter of Palanivel and Sivasankari, and an LKG student at the school. According to reports, the incident occurred around noon on 3 December when the child went to the restroom and accidentally slipped into an uncovered sewage tank. The tank’s lid was only partially covered and had rusted, posing a safety hazard. Teachers and staff quickly rushed Lia Lakshmi to the Government Villupuram Medical College and Hospital at Mundiyampakkam, where she was sadly declared dead.

In the aftermath of the incident, angry parents and local residents staged a road blockade on the East Vikravandi bypass, demanding accountability from the school management.

A preliminary police investigation indicated that the child’s death was a result of gross negligence on the part of the school. The septic tank lid, which should have been securely locked, was rusted and left open. School authorities had failed to address the issue, leading to the tragic accident. The investigation is ongoing.

Enraged relatives, speaking to the press, voiced their anger, saying, “Understand this — if it (septic tank) was already broken, they would have sealed it. But since they recently broke it, there is dust everywhere. Look at all this iron dust. There’s no way children could have gotten through this, that’s all.” Another relative, visibly upset, added, “The child should have died in a different way.

Continuing with the accusations, they pointed out, “Look at this underwear — it’s dry. If she had fallen into (the septic tank), it should be wet, right? I can even wring out the cloth to show you… see, it’s completely dry.”

However, reports suggest that discrepancies have surfaced in the timeline of events. The headmaster stated the girl left for the restroom after 2 PM, but CCTV footage reveals that she was seen being carried near the septic tank at 1:50 PM. Additionally, the footage showing the girl being taken to the hospital indicates a time of 2:40 PM, raising questions about the nearly hour-long delay between her rescue and the hospital transfer.

Further doubts are being raised that the septic tank is situated on a higher ground, prompting questions about how a young UKG girl could have climbed such an incline. Additionally, the girl’s clothes were found intact, with no signs of waste or contamination, which contradicts the assumption that she fell into the septic tank. Moreover, the person seen carrying the girl in CCTV footage appears to do so without visible distress, which is unusual given the circumstances.

The difference in the times reported by the headmaster and shown in the CCTV footage has led to accusations of inconsistent statements from the school administration. The girl’s parents and relatives are demanding answers, questioning the conflicting information provided by the school and the unclear circumstances surrounding her death. And what was more shocking was the parents were not informed immediately after the incident.

The child’s mother, speaking to reporters, stated that no information were provided to her initially by the school management. When she first heard the news, she assumed it was about another child. She said, “We did not receive any call or SMS. We don’t know how she died. Who told you that she died? Did they tell you she died? We don’t know if she’s dead. First, ask them to tell us which hospital they took her to. The four teachers who went to the hospital should come here.”

ED Raids DMK Minister Durai Murugan’s Residence In Connection With Cash For Votes & Money Laundering Probe Violating RBI Guidelines

ED Raids DMK Minister Durai Murugan Residence In Connection With Cash For Votes & Money Laundering Probe Violating RBI Guidelines

On 3 January 2025, Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials raided the residence of Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister and DMK General Secretary Durai Murugan in Gandhi Nagar, Katpadi. The raid is reportedly linked to an ongoing investigation into a ‘cash for votes’ case and alleged money laundering related to violations of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines and financial misconduct by bank officials during the demonetisation period.

The raid began at 7 AM, but ED officials initially faced difficulty entering the residence as no one was home. While some officers waited outside, another team conducted searches at the home of DMK leader Pooncholai Srinivasan in Pallikuppam. The ED was supported by armed personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to secure the area during the operation.

Allegations of Financial Irregularities

Durai Murugan and his son, Kathir Anand, a sitting Lok Sabha MP, reside together. In 2019, the Income Tax (IT) department raided their residence and uncovered 10 lakh in unaccounted cash. Following this, additional raids were carried out on properties linked to Murugan’s associates, including Srinivasan’s cement warehouses, where more unaccounted cash was found. A total of 11.51 crore was seized across six locations, including large amounts of new 200 notes. These operations led to broader investigations into alleged financial misconduct.

The investigation revealed possible cash transactions at a nationalized bank branch in Katpadi allegedly used to influence voters during the 2019 elections. As a result, cases were filed against Kathir Anand, Pooncholai Srinivasan, and others at the Katpadi police station.

Reason for Recent Raid?

Sources suggest that Friday’s raid is connected to the previous financial irregularities and misuse of funds during the 2019 election. While Durai Murugan was in Chennai, meeting with Chief Minister MK Stalin, DMK workers and supporters gathered outside his residence to show solidarity.

In response to the situation, a team of officers, led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, was deployed to maintain law and order and prevent any disturbances. The raid is still ongoing, and further details are expected.

In Chennai, Durai Murugan met with Chief Minister Stalin at the Secretariat to discuss the ED search. Murugan said to the media, “I don’t know who came to my house. Even the workers don’t know who arrived. I only know as much as you do about the inspection.”

Govt Aid Drives India’s Poverty Rate To Plummet – Rural Poverty Falls To 4.86% In FY24: SBI Research

Govt Aid Drives India's Poverty Rate To Plummet - Rural Poverty Falls To 4.86% In FY24: SBI Research

SBI Research reports a substantial decline in rural poverty in India, which has dropped to 4.86% in FY24 from 25.7% in 2011-12, largely due to government support programs. Urban poverty has also decreased significantly, now estimated at 4.09%, down from 13.7% in 2011-12.

The report attributes the reduction in rural poverty to higher consumption growth among the lowest-income groups, fueled by strong government assistance. According to SBI’s analysis of the consumption expenditure survey, “The sharp drop in rural poverty is due to increased consumption growth in the bottom 0-5% income group, supported by significant government aid. This support is crucial, especially since changes in food prices heavily affect overall expenditure, not just food costs.”

The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation’s recent Household Consumption Expenditure Survey shows a reduction in consumption inequality across both rural and urban areas between August 2023 and July 2024 compared to the previous year.

SBI’s research highlights a remarkable decline in rural poverty, estimated at 4.86% in FY24 (down from 7.2% in FY23 and 25.7% in FY12), and urban poverty at 4.09% (from 4.6% in FY23 and 13.7% in 2011-12). These figures may be slightly revised once the 2021 Census is completed, which will provide updated rural-urban population ratios.

SBI believes urban poverty could continue to decrease and that India’s overall poverty rate is now likely between 4-4.5%, with minimal extreme poverty remaining.

The research emphasizes that improved infrastructure is driving rural mobility and contributing to the shrinking income gap between rural and urban areas, as well as reducing disparities within rural income classes. SBI noted that the ratio of rural to urban monthly per capita consumption expenditure (MPCE) has fallen to 69.7%, a sharp decline from 88.2% in 2009-10. This improvement is attributed to government initiatives such as Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT), rural infrastructure development, and efforts to increase farmers’ income and enhance rural livelihoods.

The report suggests that food inflation affects consumption more in lower-income states than in higher-income states, as rural populations in poorer states tend to be more risk-averse. High-income states generally show a savings rate above the national average of 31%, while states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar exhibit lower savings rates, likely due to higher outward migration. For 2023-24, the poverty line is estimated at 1,632 in rural areas and 1,944 in urban areas.

13-Year-Old Boy Suffers Severe Head Injuries After Perimeter Wall Collapses At Ranipet Govt School

13-Year-Old Boy Suffers Severe Head Injuries After Perimeter Wall Collapses At Ranipet Govt School

A distressing incident occurred in Ranipet, where a 13-year-old boy from Thenkadappanthangal, near Walajapet, suffered severe head injuries when a perimeter wall at his government school collapsed.

The boy, an eighth-grade student at the Government Panchayat Union Middle School, was playing near the school’s boundary during the lunch break when the wall suddenly gave way.

An ambulance quickly rescued the student and took him to the Walajapet Government General Hospital for immediate treatment. At the hospital, the Walajapet Taluk Chief District Education Officer and other officials inquired about the boy’s condition.

After receiving first aid, the injured student was transferred to CMC Private Hospital in Ratnagiri for further care. This shocking incident, involving the collapse of the school’s perimeter wall, has caused a significant stir in the area.

This incident is not isolated, as similar issues have occurred in the past. Despite numerous reports highlighting the risks to students’ safety, the Dravidian model DMK government appears indifferent to maintaining school buildings and ensuring basic facilities in government schools, putting the lives of children and students at risk.

  • On 27 August 2024, three students were injured when a section of the ceiling plaster fell on them during class at a government-run school in Krishnagiri. The accident raised significant concerns about the safety and structural integrity of the building, which had only been opened two months ago with MPLADS fund. In another similar incident July 2024, a ceiling of a newly constructed Panchayat Union Middle School near Kanchipuram collapsed, wher the building, completed three months prior.
  • On August 2024, another ceiling of a classroom at a government school in Thiruporur collapsed, injuring five female students and sparking protests from parents who questioned the quality of the construction.
  • On 12 June 2024, The administration of St. Paul’s Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Mayiladuthurai forced students to clean their classrooms to “instill” discipline, a practice exposed when a ninth-grade student refused and was slapped by a teacher.
  • The Government Higher Secondary School in Mogappair, Chennai, become a site of student distress due to poor conditions, including unhygienic facilities and unsafe infrastructure. Girl students raised alarming concerns that they were subjected to verbal harassment and forced cleaning duties, with teachers complicit in the mistreatment.

TN HR&CE Department Allegedly Summons Temple Priests For Review Meeting, Faces Backlash

TN HR&CE Department Allegedly Summons Temple Priests For Review Meeting, Faces Backlash

The Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department has faced severe criticism from temple activists following its summons to temple chief archakas (priests) and poojaris for a review meeting. The controversy stemmed from the mention of ‘famous important temples’ in the summons, which raised concerns about whether the department views Hindu temples merely as revenue-generating entities. Activists questioned the department’s authority, as the legislation does not grant them the power to call archakas to meetings.

In a letter dated 27 December 2024, the Commissioner of HR&CE issued a notice stating, “A review meeting will be held at the Commissioner’s office on 04.01.2025, chaired by the Hon’ble Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. In this regard, subordinate officers are instructed to ensure the attendance of Chief Priests from the prominent temples across all Joint Commissioner zones for the review meeting on 04.01.2025 at 10:00 AM. Additionally, the concerned Zonal Joint Commissioners and Temple Executive Officers are required to be present at the Commissioner’s office. Zonal Joint Commissioners must ensure the participation of the Chief Priests from important temples without fail. Zonal Joint Commissioners are also requested to complete the attached form with details of the Chief Priests attending the review meeting and email it before 01.01.2025.”

This letter from the HR&CE has been criticized for indirectly making participation in the review meeting mandatory for the archakas, rather than simply requesting their attendance. By pressuring Zonal Commissioners and Temple Executive Officers to ensure their participation, the letter has sparked controversy.

DMK-Led Tamil Nadu Govt Is Dictatorial, Not Democratic: BJP Leader Khushbu Sundar

DMK-Led Tamil Nadu Govt Is Dictatorial, Not Democratic: BJP Leader Khushbu Sundar

BJP leader and actor-turned-politician Khushbu Sundar has criticised the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government, calling it as “dictatorial rather than democratic”.

Speaking to reporters at the Chennai airport on Friday, she alleged that the Tamil Nadu government had displayed bias in granting permissions for political events. Khushbu accused the DMK government of granting permission for a rally organised by MDMK leader Vaiko but denied it for a BJP protest march.

She said, “I will raise my voice whenever women are affected. I won’t wait for a miracle like Ghajini to happen before I take action. Having been a part of the DMK, I know how they function. I will not remain silent; I will speak out.”

The actor-turned-politician emphasised the importance of women’s safety over monetary benefits, stating, “Money is not the most important thing for women — safety is. The ruling party, DMK, is responsible for protecting women’s dignity, modesty, and safety. Women cannot be silenced with money.”

Calling on the government to prioritise women’s safety, Khushbu urged women not to remain silent and criticised the DMK’s governance, claiming that its schemes were ineffective. She questioned the government’s tendency to compare Tamil Nadu with other states, asserting that the southern state is an integral and significant part of India. Khushbu also criticised the politicisation of sexual assault cases, pointing out the lack of response from DMK leaders to similar incidents in other states.

She asked, “Why are you politicising sexual assault cases against women? When a similar incident happened in Chhattisgarh, did Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin or Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin raise their voice? Did Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi come to Tamil Nadu to protest when a similar incident happened here? No, they didn’t do anything.”

She stressed that violence against women should not be politicised and urged those in power to focus on providing safety rather than drawing comparisons with other states.

Speaking as a native of Tamil Nadu, Khushbu reiterated her commitment to addressing the state’s issues, saying, “It’s not about BJP, DMK, or AIADMK — it’s about ensuring safety for women.” She also accused the DMK government of being overly reactive to the BJP’s actions, stating, “The DMK government is doing politics by constantly watching what the BJP is doing. Stalin said we are playing politics, but what else can we do? When you get hurt, it’s blood; but when we get hurt, it’s just tomato sauce?” The BJP leader concluded by asserting that she would continue to speak out about Tamil Nadu’s governance and women’s safety issues.

Hamas Says Indirect Talks With Israel Resumes In Qatari Capital On Gaza

Hamas Says Indirect Talks With Israel Resumes In Qatari Capital On Gaza

Hamas confirmed that indirect negotiations with Israel have resumed in Doha, Qatar, to achieve a complete ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

“The indirect negotiations resume today, in Doha, the capital of Qatar. The movement reaffirms its seriousness and optimism, as it always does, and continues to work toward an agreement that will fulfill the aspirations and goals of our people,” Hamas stated in a release.

The statement added that the latest round of talks is expected to focus on achieving a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire, securing the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and facilitating the safe and prompt return of displaced Palestinians to their homes, Xinhua news agency reported.

Israel said on Thursday it had sent a delegation to Doha for ceasefire talks. Earlier Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed in a statement that “a delegation of professional officials from the Mossad, Shin Bet, and the IDF (Israel Defense Forces)” will travel to Doha to continue the negotiations.

Earlier this week, the Israeli state-owned Kan TV reported that Hamas had proposed a one-week ceasefire, during which it would locate the whereabouts of hostages still held in Gaza and provide a list of those who could be released. Israel has not officially commented on the proposal. The talks, mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, have been ongoing for more than a year. Earlier on Wednesday Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz issued a stern warning stating that Israel would intensify its military operations in Gaza if Hamas does not agree to a deal for the release of hostages “soon.”

Israel and Hamas have been engaged in a deadly conflict since October 7, 2023, after Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel that killed 1,200 people. Israel responded with a large-scale air and ground assault on the besieged Gaza Strip, resulting in more than 45,500 Palestinian deaths so far.
