In a major development, the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday ordered bike aggregators, including Rapido bike taxis, to halt their operations in the state within six weeks.
Passing the order, a bench, headed by Justice B.M. Shyam Prasad, instructed the state government and the Transport Department to ensure that bike taxi operations cease within six weeks in Karnataka. “Regulatory clarity is vital before allowing such services to continue,” it held.
The court has also asked bike taxi aggregators Rapido, Uber, Ola, and others to halt their services within the stipulated period of 6 weeks. Justice Prasad, dismissing the petitions, opined that the court cannot give directions to the state to frame regulations and it can’t order the state to register non-transport vehicles as transport vehicles.
“The Transport Department cannot be directed to register motorcycles as transport vehicles or issue contract carriage permits for such services until appropriate government regulations are in place,” the bench said.
The bench rejected the petitions filed by the Roppen Transportation Services Private Limited, which owns Rapido, ANI Technologies owing Ola, and Uber Technologies owning Uber, seeking to legally recognise bike taxi services by permitting the registration of such vehicles.
The petitioners had also sought the directions to the authorities concerned to implement a legal framework for bike taxis. Rapido had sought directions to the government authorities from interfering with its business.
The court stated that the bike taxi aggregators cannot operate in the state unless the government notifies relevant guidelines under Section 3 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, along with necessary rules.
Earlier, in April 2022, the bench headed by Justice Jyoti Mulimani had given interim relief to the bike taxi aggregators, directing the authorities not to initiate any coercive action against the bike taxi aggregators. The interim relief has been continued to date, enabling the operations of bike taxis. The new development is considered a huge setback for bike taxi aggregator app Rapido.

Addressing the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, asserted that misconceptions about the Waqf (Amendment) Bill were being deliberately spread by certain parties to bolster their vote banks. He said that the proposed legislation was in line with fulfilling the wishes of RJD chief Lalu Prasad, something the opposition had failed to do.
The Home Minister explained that the new law might not have been necessary had the Waqf (Amendment) Act of 2013, passed under the Congress-led UPA II government, not been rushed through just months before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. At that time, Lalu Prasad, whose party had been part of the ruling coalition before withdrawing and later offering support, had raised concerns about the state of Waqf properties.
Quoting Lalu Prasad, HM Amit Shah said: “We welcome the amendment bill presented by the government. I support the statements made by (BJP’s) Shahnawaz Hussain and others. Most of the land has been grabbed, be it government-owned or otherwise. People in the Waqf Board have sold all the prime land. In Patna, apartments have been constructed on Dak Bungalow property. There has been a lot of loot like this.” The Home Minister further quoted the RJD leader’s call for tougher action: “We support the amendments, but we want you (the UPA government) to bring in a strict law in the future and put such people behind bars.”
While sharing this, HM Shah smilingly pointed to the Opposition benches and remarked: “Lalu Prasad’s wishes were not fulfilled by them (Congress-led UPA), but Prime Minister Narendra Modi is doing it. Lalu ji had asked for a stricter law.” The Home Minister also reiterated that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, was not aimed at any particular religion and that the Congress and other opposition parties were spreading misinformation about the bill to serve their vote-bank politics.

Navratna defence public sector undertaking Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has signed a contract with the Indian Air Force, valued at Rs 593.22 crore, for providing maintenance services for the Akash missile system to kick off the new financial year 2025-26. The BEL had also supplied the IAF with the Akash missile system for which it has won the maintenance contract.
Further, the company has concluded negotiations with customers for acquisition of orders worth Rs 5,000 crore, BEL said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Bharat Electronics Limited has achieved a turnover of around Rs 23,000 crore during the financial year 2024-25, against the previous year’s turnover of Rs 19,820 crore, registering a growth of 16 per cent.
This includes export sales of around $106 million during FY 2024-25, as against the previous year’s export turnover of $ 92.98 million, registering a growth of 14 per cent, according to a company statement.
In the fiscal year 2024-25, BEL secured orders worth Rs 18,715 crore. Some of the major orders received during the year are BMP II Upgrade, Ashwini Radar, Software Defined Radios, Data link, Multi-Function Radars, EON 51, Seekers, Anti Drone System, Airport Surveillance Radar, Sonar Upgradation, Flycatcher spares, Radar upgradation, Spares and Services, etc, and other projects in the non-defence sector.
With this, the total order book of BEL as on April 1, 2025, stands at around Rs 71,650 crore, including the export order book of $359 million. BEL Chairman & Managing Director, Manoj Jain, said: “BEL strives to attain self-reliance through enhanced Indigenisation efforts, expansion and modernisation, outsourcing to Indian Industries, including MSMEs & startups. BEL has rolled out strategies to maximise its global outreach and footprint in International market segments in the coming years. All these efforts will help BEL to retain its market leadership position in the strategic electronics sector.”
BEL has reported a 47.3 per cent growth in its net profit for the third quarter ended December 2024 to Rs 1,316.06 crore, compared to Rs 893.30 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. The Navratna defence public sector company’s consolidated revenue from operations in the third quarter shot up by 38.6 per cent to Rs 5,770.69 crore, from Rs 4,162.16 crore reported in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.

Food Safety officials have sealed Hotel Bilal Biryani in Triplicane following allegations that the restaurant served spoiled food, leading to severe food poisoning in customers. On 30 March 2025, at least 20 people reportedly fell ill with symptoms of vomiting and dysentery after consuming beef biryani and beef rolls. The affected individuals were subsequently admitted to the Communicable Diseases Hospital in Tondiarpet for treatment.
The action came after protests by some customers and complaints lodged by two of the victims at the Triplicane police station. On 2 April 2025, a team of officials, led by designated officer P. Satheesh Kumar, conducted an inspection of the restaurant’s food safety practices, accompanied by health officials from the Chennai Corporation.
According to reports, a group of six people – V. Vignesh, M. Jaishankar, K. Shyam, K. Vivekanandan, A. Stephen, and S. Rebecca – dined at the hotel on the evening of 30 March 2025. The following morning, all six experienced severe stomach pains and vomiting, and were initially treated as outpatients at a nearby private hospital for suspected food poisoning. However, as their symptoms persisted, they were transferred to the CDH for further treatment.
Based on a complaint from Vignesh’s parents, the Triplicane police have filed a case against the restaurant.
In a separate case, the Ice House police have also filed charges against Hotel Bilal on Mount Road, Anna Salai, after two college students fell ill following a family dinner at the restaurant on 30 March. The girls suffered from vomiting and stomach pain and were admitted to Government Royapettah Hospital on 1 April 2025, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has been granted transit anticipatory bail by the District Munsif-cum-Judicial Magistrate Court in Vanur, Tamil Nadu, following legal action over a satirical remark targeting Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Kamra had initially approached the Madras High Court seeking temporary protection from arrest. A Zero FIR was initially registered against him by Shiv Sena MLA Muraji Patel under Sections 353(1)(b) and 353(2) (related to public mischief) and 356(2) (concerning defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case was subsequently transferred to the Khar police station in Mumbai.
The High Court provided him interim relief until 7 April 2025 and directed him to approach the appropriate lower court for further proceedings. Complying with this order, Kamra appeared before the Vanur court, which subsequently granted him transit bail.
The controversy arose from Kamra’s stand-up performance on 23 March 2025 at Mumbai’s Habitat Comedy Club, where he humorously modified a song from the 1997 Bollywood film Dil Toh Pagal Hai to make a reference to Shinde. Although he did not mention the Deputy Chief Minister by name, his use of the term gaddar (traitor) led to a political uproar.
Following the performance, members of the Shiv Sena vandalized the comedy club in protest. Days later, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) initiated demolition work at the venue, further escalating tensions.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police officers attempted to question Kamra at his registered address, but he criticized the move, stating he had not lived there for over a decade. Through his lawyer, Kamra argued in court that his remarks were purely satirical and lacked any malicious intent. He contended that his arrest was being sought without justifiable cause.
Kamra has consistently defended his right to political satire, stating, “Making jokes about political leaders is not a crime.” He has also refused to issue an apology for his remarks.
The Madras High Court has directed him to appear before it on 7 April 2025 for further legal proceedings.
Earlier, according to social media reports, Kunal Kamra is currently hiding in Tamil Nadu ruled by DMK, an ally of the Congress.
Kunal Kamra who was born and brought up in Mumbai claimed that he is a permanent resident of Villupuram in Tamil Nadu and argued that the Madras High Court has the jurisdiction to hear his plea.
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Chennai Police has filed a case against actress and television host Sharmila Thapa for allegedly concealing her nationality and unlawfully acquiring an Indian passport.
Sharmila, known for hosting several humor-based television shows in Tamil, gained popularity despite being originally from Nepal. She also played minor roles in a few Tamil films. In 2019, she married a choreographer from Chennai.
Recently, Sharmila approached the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Chennai to apply for permanent citizenship. During the verification of her documents, it was discovered that she had obtained an Indian passport in 2011 while concealing her foreign nationality.
Following a complaint from the authorities, the CCB has initiated an investigation into the matter.
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is currently under investigation in connection with hedge fund manager George Soros, as part of an ongoing inquiry. ASAR Social Impact Advisors, which received ₹8 crore from USAID as foreign inward remittance, is also funded by the Soros Economic Development Fund (SEDF).
USAID, which has faced criticism from the Trump administration for allegedly promoting a “left, liberal, and woke” agenda abroad, is now under the scrutiny of India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) due to its association with Soros. The ED is investigating three Bengaluru-based companies, including ASAR Social Impact Advisors, for potential violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) related to receiving ₹25 crore from Soros’s Economic Development Fund between 2021 and 2024.
ASAR has explained that the funding from USAID was a reimbursement for services provided to the Council on Energy, Environment, and Water (CEEW), a Delhi-based think tank focused on global challenges and their implications for India’s development. According to ASAR, the funding was related to a USAID project aimed at cleaner air, which has already concluded.
CEEW has clarified that it contracted ASAR to work on this project but no longer has any relationship with ASAR. The think tank further emphasized that it has no ties to George Soros or the Open Society Foundations (OSF) and has not received funding from them. CEEW also stated that it has not been contacted by any government authorities regarding ASAR and has no information regarding the ongoing investigation.
ASAR officials, however, could not provide details about the services they rendered to CEEW or clarify how USAID funding was involved. The ED is now investigating the reasons behind the payments made by USAID and whether the Open Society Foundations, which were placed under the “prior reference category” by India’s home ministry in 2016 due to concerns over “undesirable activities,” complied with regulations in contributing funds to Indian non-profits.
In addition to ASAR, two other Bengaluru-based companies, Rootbridge Services Pvt Ltd and Rootbridge Academy Ltd, also received funding from Soros’s SEDF. The ED is now examining whether the required prior approval was obtained for these payments. The investigation also covers Soros’s funding of Indian civil rights organizations, think tanks, and other entities, potentially under the guise of foreign direct investment.
The Indian government has strongly refuted claims made by The New York Times in a report published on 28 March 2025, which alleged that Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) supplied military-grade equipment to Russia in violation of international restrictions.
The American newspaper labeled HAL as a “major supplier” to Moscow’s sanctioned state weapons agency, Rosoboronexport, and suggested that the Indian public-sector aerospace and defense company had facilitated shipments of equipment procured from British manufacturer H.R. Smith Group to Russia. However, H.R. Smith Group has clarified that the equipment in question is not intended for military use.
While the report acknowledged that there was no direct evidence proving H.R. Smith’s products were sent to Russia, it cited shipment records indicating that HAL had received parts from the British manufacturer and, within days, exported components with the same product codes to Russia.
Furthermore, The New York Times alleged that between 2023 and 2024, H.R. Smith Group made 118 shipments of “restricted technology” worth $2 million to HAL. It also claimed that HAL, in turn, exported 13 shipments of similar components to Rosoboronexport for $14 million during the same period.
Indian Govt Rejects NYT’s Claims
Indian government sources have dismissed the report as “factually incorrect” and “misleading,” accusing the publication of distorting facts to suit a political agenda.

They stated, “It (New York Times) has tried to frame issues and distort facts to suit a political narrative. Indian entity has scrupulously followed all its intl obligations on strategic trade controls & end-user commitments. India’s robust legal and regulatory framework on strategic trade continues to guide overseas commercial ventures by its companies. We expect reputed media outlets to undertake basic due diligence while publishing such reports, which obviously was overlooked in the instant case.”
This is not the first instance of The New York Times publishing reports critical of India. The American newspaper has faced accusations of bias in the past, with Indian media outlets, frequently challenging its coverage of India-related issues.
K. Karunanidhi, also known as SKP Karuna, a self-proclaimed caste abolisher and the State Secretary of DMK Engineering Wing, has found himself at the center of a controversy after being associated with banners promoting the Telugu New Year Ugadi celebrations by the Tiruvannamalai All Naidu Sangam. The event, linked with caste identity, sparked mockery from netizens who accused him of hypocrisy regarding his stance on caste abolition.
The ridicule emerged after Karuna recently boasted on his social media that, under the influence of Dravidian ideologue EV Ramasamy (EVR), caste had been eradicated in Tamil Nadu and that surnames associated with caste could not even be abolished elsewhere in India. However, the irony of the situation became evident when Karuna, a vocal advocate of caste abolition, was linked to an event celebrating a specific caste identity. This discrepancy fueled widespread mockery online, with netizens calling out his so-called “caste abolition” efforts as nothing more than a gimmick.
In his social media post, Karuna had stated, “There is no other place in India except Tamil Nadu where the mentality of mentioning a caste name is considered a disgrace. Those who ask whether Dravidianism abolished caste in 50 years, can’t even erase caste surnames elsewhere, even after 1,000 years. This is why this is Periyar’s soil.”
In his post, he also shared a video featuring a kid who refused to say his grandfather’s name with caste surname. When asked why, the child explained that it was related to caste.

A Mohali court sentenced self-proclaimed pastor Bajinder Singh on 1 April 2025 to life imprisonment for a 2018 rape case, stating that he had misused his position as a preacher to exploit a woman and infringe upon her right to privacy and dignity.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Vikrant Kumar pronounced the sentence after finding Bajinder guilty on March 28. The court convicted him under IPC Sections 376 (rape), 323 (causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation) while acquitting five co-accused—Akhbar Bhatti, Rajesh Chaudhary, Jatinder Kumar, Sitar Ali, and Sandeep Pehlwan.
Bajinder received a life sentence under Section 376, along with one-year terms each under Sections 323 and 506. The court ruled that all sentences would run concurrently.
Case Background
The case, filed in 2018 at Zirakpur police station in Mohali, was based on a woman’s complaint alleging that Bajinder had promised to help her relocate abroad. Under this pretense, he lured her to his residence in Mohali’s Sector 63, where he sexually assaulted her and recorded the act. The woman further claimed he later threatened to release the video online unless she complied with his demands. Following the complaint, Bajinder was arrested at Delhi airport in 2018 but was later granted bail.
Given past instances of protests by his followers, authorities enforced strict security measures at the court premises. Bajinder, who had been re-arrested on March 28, was brought from Mansa Jail under heavy security.
In its judgment, the court emphasized the need for strict sentencing in rape cases. It noted that such acts violate a woman’s dignity and leave lasting emotional and psychological scars. The court stated that every rape perpetrator should face swift and stringent punishment, rejecting any plea for leniency in Bajinder’s case.
Pastor Bajinder Singh
Bajinder Singh, popularly known as the “Yeshu Yeshu prophet” among his followers, has faced multiple legal controversies. In February, he was booked for sexual harassment after a 22-year-old woman accused him of misconduct. Charges included Sections 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. Kapurthala police have formed a special team to investigate these allegations, which Bajinder has denied.
Further, on March 25, Mohali police registered an FIR against him for assault and wrongful restraint after a viral video showed him slapping a woman. A 40-year-old complainant, who had worked in his ministry for over a decade, alleged that he also attempted to strangle her. This case was filed under Sections 74 (assault intending to harm a woman’s dignity), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Originally from Haryana and a Jat by birth, Bajinder converted to Christianity in 2012 and began his preaching career. He leads two churches—The Church of Glory and Wisdom in Jalandhar’s Tajpur and another in Mohali’s Majri. His religious gatherings attract large audiences, many seeking miraculous healings. These sermons are broadcast live on his YouTube channel, ‘Prophet Bajinder Singh,’ which has over 3.74 million subscribers.
Born on 10 September1982, into a Haryanavi Jat family, Bajinder’s rise in the evangelical world is marred by serious allegations, including sexual harassment, financial fraud, and even murder.
His journey into Christianity began in 2012 while he was in jail on murder charges. Upon his release, he established himself as a “miracle healer” in Tajpur village, Jalandhar, claiming to cure the sick and transform lives through divine intervention. By 2016, he had launched his own independent church, “The Church of Glory and Wisdom,” starting with small gatherings in Chandigarh and Jalandhar. Despite his growing influence, the Diocese of Jalandhar publicly distanced itself from him in 2018, clarifying that he was not affiliated with any recognized Christian institution.
Bajinder Singh’s ministry expanded rapidly, boasting 20 branches across India and 12 international locations, including the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Dubai, Malaysia, and Israel. His influence is not limited to religious circles—he has cultivated political connections and affiliations within Bollywood, further solidifying his public presence.
However, his rise has been tainted by numerous controversies. Over the years, he has been implicated in 23 reported incidents, including two cases of sexual harassment, a murder case, three financial fraud investigations, two allegations of fake healing, and six cases of child abuse.
His religious empire is fueled by extensive social media reach, with millions of followers across platforms. His official Facebook page has over a million followers, while his Instagram account has 1.1 million.
On YouTube, his channel has amassed 3.74 million subscribers, where he continues to preach and promote his faith-healing claims.

Self-proclaimed pastor Bajinder Singh’s income saw a significant rise over the years. For the assessment year 2017-18, his income was ₹41,120. It increased to ₹1,03,230 in 2018-19 and further rose to ₹1,23,889 in 2019-20. By 2020-21, his income had surged to ₹1,95,08,252. Additionally, he had secured loans amounting to ₹10,73,034, unsecured loans worth ₹34.33 lakh, and gross fixed assets valued at ₹2,85,63,575.

#1 Accused Of Sexual Harassment By 22-Year-Old Woman
On 20 February 2025, a 22-year-old woman from Kapurthala accused pastor Bajinder Singh of sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation. The victim, who had joined Singh’s ‘puja team’ by 2020, revealed that the preacher began sending her unsolicited messages when she was just 17 years old. By 2022, Singh allegedly started summoning her to his cabin on Sundays, where he would forcibly hug and touch her inappropriately when she was alone. The harassment escalated as Singh began stalking and threatening the victim. In March 2023, the woman married another Christian preacher, Raja Singh, but Bajinder continued to threaten both her and her husband even after their marriage. Following her complaint, the police registered a case against Bajinder Singh under charges of sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, and stalking.

On 21 July 2018, Singh was arrested at Delhi airport while attempting to travel to London, following allegations of rape and sexual assault. The victim, a woman from Zirakpur, had filed a police complaint in May 2018, accusing Singh of sexually assaulting her at his Chandigarh residence in 2017. Singh, who had initially lured the victim under the pretext of offering her a place on his board, recorded a video of the assault and used it to blackmail her, threatening to release the footage if she resisted his demands or reported the crime. The FIR also implicated Singh’s close associates—Jatinder, Akbar, Sartar Ali, Sucha Singh, Rajesh Chaudhary, and Sandeep Pehlwan—for allegedly physically assaulting the victim.
As mentioned above, he has been sentenced to life imprisonment for this case.
#3 Jailed For Murder
Bajinder Singh, in 2002, at the age of 20, was jailed in connection with a murder case. During his time in prison around 2012, Singh reportedly converted to Christianity, marking the beginning of his religious journey. After his release, he emerged as a self-proclaimed preacher, practicing “miracle healing” and claiming to cure severe illnesses like paralysis and fatal diseases through prayers.

In March 2025, a video surfaced online allegedly showing him assaulting a woman in his office. The footage, which has gone viral, captures Singh throwing a stack of papers at a woman seated with a child. As she approaches him, he appears to push her before others in the room step in to de-escalate the situation. Authorities claim Singh recorded the act and later used the footage to blackmail the victim into silence. She filed a complaint in April 2018, prompting police action. Additionally, a fresh sexual harassment case was registered against him in Jalandhar on March 2, adding to his mounting legal troubles.

#1 Used Child For Conversion Propaganda
On 29 August 2021, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) urged Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner Mandeep Singh Brar to take action against Pastor Bajinder Singh for allegedly using a minor for religious conversion. A viral video from a Christian missionary event showed the child crying profusely as Singh questioned him about his sister’sability to speak. Initially, the boy denied that she could speak, but when prompted again, he affirmed she could.

On 13 September 2022, in Jalandhar, Punjab, 4-year-old Tanisha, a cancer patient, died after allegedly receiving fake treatment from self-proclaimed prophet Bajinder Singh. Singh, who runs a Christian center in Tajpur village, was accused by Tanisha’s family of charging ₹15,000 and ₹50,000 multiple times for her treatment, which failed to save her. After her death, the family claimed they were forcibly evicted from Singh’s center. They alleged they were misled by advertisements promising to revive even dead children.
#3 Used Disabled Children In Healing Videos
On 27 September 2023, a video of Pastor Bajinder Singh went viral on social media, showing a handicapped child allegedly walking after Singh prayed to Jesus. Singh claimed the miracle was the work of the Holy Spirit. The video sparked controversy, with critics accusing Singh of exploiting disabled children to promote his ministry and convert Sikhs to Christianity.
On 1 November 2023, a video of Pastor Bajinder Singh surfaced on social media, showing a handicapped child in a wheelchair being made to walk after Singh’s prayers. In the footage, Singh repeatedly invokes the name of Jesus Christ and calls upon the Holy Spirit, claiming to heal the child.
On the morning of 23 January 2025, large crowds began gathering at an airfield near Gumla town in Jharkhand. People traveled not only from different parts of the state but also from neighboring regions in Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Odisha. Thousands of followers assembled in hopes that self-proclaimed preacher Bajinder Singh would perform miracles to resolve their problems.
Interestingly, Singh’s event in Gumla was not attended exclusively by Christians. Many Sarna Adivasis, Hindus, and Muslims also participated, despite continuing to practice their original faiths. Locals from Puggu, where Singh’s Gumla branch is located, noted that the branch was established in January 2023 by a Sarna man who had visited Singh’s church in Chandigarh seeking healing.
According to Irkhan Bara, a local observer, only about 30-40% of those visiting the branch are Christians. The rest comprise Hindus and Muslims, reflecting the preacher’s growing influence across different religious communities.
Christianity or Migration to Canada – Punjab’s Untold Tragedy
A report by Aaj Tak in September 2024 revealed that banners promoting self-proclaimed preacher Bajinder Singh were displayed in Jandpur village, advertising visa services for countries like Canada, the USA, and Poland. These signboards praised and thanked Singh, referring to him as ‘Prophet’ of the Church of Glory and Wisdom.
Some banners even claimed that receiving Singh’s blessings would guarantee an immediate visa. According to the report, a conversion lobby was actively operating in the area, facilitating migration to Canada by persuading young people to convert to Christianity. Allegedly, they pressured individuals to change their faith and cut their hair, promising them a better future abroad.
Conversion In Rajasthan
On 11 February 2024, an attempt to convert around 400 people to Christianity at a private hotel in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, was exposed. Investigations later revealed that nearly 20,000 poor and vulnerable individuals in the region had already been drawn into a large-scale conversion scheme. The accused, including Pastor Bajinder Singh, Kunwar Singh, Shailendra Singh, and eight others, allegedly lured people with promises of financial and material benefits. Following the revelation, an FIR was registered, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to investigate the case. Authorities identified Bajinder Singh as the mastermind behind the operation, with reports indicating that he directly transferred funds to those willing to convert. To oversee the Bharatpur operations, Singh had appointed Ajay Singh. Locals claimed that individuals who converted were offered incentives ranging from ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh.
Large-Scale Conversion Complaint
On 27 May 2022, the Kalinga Rights Forum filed a complaint with the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), urging action against Odisha authorities for supporting a large-scale conversion event led by controversial Punjab-based preacher, ‘Prophet’ Bajinder Singh. The forum requested the statutory body to direct the Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) to register an FIR against Balangir district Sub-Collector, Lambodar Dharua, for allegedly assisting in the Christian conversion event.

Struggling financially after losing their father, the family was approached by Suvarna Khede, a worker for the pastor, who invited them to Chandigarh. On 11 February 2024, a Christian conversion racket in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, was exposed, with ‘Prophet’ Bajinder Singh identified as the mastermind. Singh allegedly transferred funds directly to converts and appointed Ajay Singh to oversee operations in the region. Locals reported that individuals received incentives between ₹2 lakh and ₹5 lakh for converting. Investigations revealed that an Italian organization, Labhana Ministry, was allegedly funding multiple Christian missionary networks in India to increase Christian conversions. In response to these revelations, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the matter further.
Pastor Bajinder Singh, who claims to be a direct messenger of Jesus, showcased what he called a cure for AIDS at a healing event. Known for his alleged miraculous remedies, he targeted HIV this time, attempting to heal a husband-wife duo suffering from the virus. Focusing back on the man, Bajinder exclaims,“Jesus, touch him!”prompting the man to scream loudly.“Get up!”Bajinder commands. In a dramatic moment, the man rises, and the crowd erupts into rapturous hallelujahs. Right on cue, the band and singers onstage begin an upbeat devotional song, the catchy rhythm proving irresistible. So convincing has the supposed healing been that the “patient” joins the pastor in a few bhangra-style steps to the thumping music and even jogs down the stage.

On 11 May 2020, a post appeared on Bajinder Singh’s Facebook account claiming that the coronavirus could be cured through live prayer. The post featured a testimony from a woman who allegedly contracted COVID-19 along with her entire family. According to the post, she was deeply distressed but found hope after watching a live program by Prophet Bajinder Singh’s ministry. It stated that during the session, Bajinder Singh prophesied that those suffering from the virus would soon be healed. The woman reportedly embraced this prophecy with great faith, and at that very moment, she claimed to have been touched by the Lord’s spirit. The testimony further asserted that she and her family were completely cured of the virus and expressed gratitude to Jesus Christ for the “miracle.” The post concluded by giving glory to the name of the Lord for this supposed healing.
