DMK, ADMK, CPI-M, Congress Petition Collector To Protect Rights Of Muslims To Offer Sacrifice At Thiruparankundram Murugan Temple Hill, Says ‘Hindutva’ Forces Are Disturbing Peace

DMK, AIADMK, CPI(M), & Congress petition ignores Hindu worship rights at Thirupparankundram, favouring only Islamist demands.

Leaders from DMK, AIADMK, CPI(M), and Congress have jointly submitted a petition to the Madurai District Collector, urging the continuation of Muslim worship and animal sacrifice practices at the Sultan Sikandar Badusha Dargah atop Thirupparankundram Hill. However, the letter makes no mention of protecting Hindu worship rights at the centuries-old sacred site, framing “social harmony” solely around meeting Muslim demands while sidelining concerns over access restrictions imposed on Hindu devotees.

The issue centers around the Hazrat Sultan Sikandar Badusha Auliya Dargah, located atop Thirupparankundram Hill, a revered Muslim place of worship. According to the letter, Muslims and members of other communities have traditionally offered sacrifices of goats and chickens, as part of a religious practice called Kanthuri, and prayed for the mentally ill on Thursdays.

The controversy arose when, on 27 November 2024 and 25 December 2024, local police reportedly stopped Muslim devotees from conducting these rituals. The police, citing orders from higher authorities, claimed the practices were not permitted. However, when pressed for a copy of the order, the authorities allegedly stated it was a verbal directive.“, the petition read.

It further went on to add “Fearing the loss of their “right to worship“, some Islamic organizations staged protests. The situation escalated further as BJP leaders reportedly brought large groups to the hill, raised slogans, and created an atmosphere of intimidation.

The letter also raises concerns about police actions blocking access to the steps leading to the Kasi Vishwanath Temple located on the hill. The restriction has reportedly added to the tensions, with fears of further unrest in the city.

In their plea to the District Collector, the leaders urged the administration to:

  1. Allow the continuation of Muslim worship practices at the dargah.
  2. Open the path to the Kasi Vishwanath Temple for devotees.
  3. Take action against those allegedly inciting division and hatred along religious lines.

The joint appeal emphasized the need to maintain peace and harmony among the diverse communities living in Thirupparankundram and urged swift resolution to prevent further conflict.

Background

The sacred Hindu site of Thirupparankundram Hills is facing growing tension, with controversial actions by a Muslim politician fueling divisive rhetoric. Indian Union Muslim League member and Ramanathapuram MP Navas Kani, who also serves as the chairman of the Tamil Nadu Waqf Board, has claimed that the dargah at the hilltop is Waqf property. This statement has sent shockwaves through the region and intensified existing tensions.

This development is part of a series of incidents that have strained relations between Hindus and Muslims, who had previously lived in harmony. Some Islamists groups have been attempting to assert their rights to conduct animal sacrifices at the hilltop, furthering their claims that the entire Thirupparankundram Hills should be recognized as Sikkandar Hills.

The situation escalated on 27 December 2024, when Madurai police intervened to detain a group of Muslims family attempting to bring goats and roosters to the hilltop dargah for ritual sacrifice. Syed Abu Dahir, a 53-year-old from Malaiyadipatti in Rajapalayam, arrived with his family and animals for the ceremony but was stopped by authorities at the base of the hill. Police informed them that bringing livestock up the hill was prohibited, which led to a protest by over 20 local Muslims at the foot of the hill in solidarity with the family.

The following week, on 5 January 2025, another large group of Muslim protesters gathered at Thirupparankundram Hills, demanding permission to offer prayers at the mosque located at the top. When the police denied their request, tensions escalated, leading to a brief scuffle and the detention of the protesters.

On 17 January 2025, during the Santhanakoodu Festival at a nearby dargah, social media posts began circulating about an upcoming “Equality Feast” (Samabanthi Bhojan) on 18 January at the hilltop dargah, where goats and roosters were allegedly to be sacrificed. Fearing communal unrest, police set up barricades and conducted searches to prevent the transportation of livestock to the hill. When the dargah Jamath was informed that animal sacrifices were not allowed, protests broke out. Members of the Jamath, along with other Muslim protesters, clashed with the police, causing further disruptions.

The situation was exacerbated by the involvement of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), an ally of AIADMK and a group linked to the banned terror outfit PFI. These elements are believed to be behind the attempts to conduct animal sacrifices at the sacred Thirupparankundram Hill.

Furthering tensions, on 21 January 2025, DMK Manapparai MLA Abdul Samad was accused of conducting an illegal survey around the temple with intentions to gain control of the hill. On the same day, IUML member and Ramanathapuram MP Navas Kani was seen giving an interview near the Thirupparankundram Hills. When asked whether the dargah at the hilltop was under the Waqf Board, Kani confirmed, “Yes, it is under the control of the Tamil Nadu Waqf Board,” further heightening tensions in the area.

After Calling Coimbatore Bomb Blast Terrorist SA Basha As His “Appa”, NTK Head Seeman Pays Tribute To Another Islamic Terrorist Palani Baba Who Headed All India Jihad Committee

NTK Chief Seeman praises Islamic extremist Palani Baba.

Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) Chief Coordinator Seeman has once again stirred controversy by paying tribute to Palani Baba, also known as Ahmed Ali, the president of the All India Jihad Committee, on his death anniversary on 28 January 2025. Palani Baba, considered an Islamic extremist, has been linked to terrorist activities. This tribute follows a previous incident where Seeman drew widespread backlash for calling another Islamic terrorist, SA Basha, “father” and praising him. Basha, who passed away on 16 December 2024 due to health complications, was the mastermind behind the 1998 Coimbatore serial bomb blasts, which claimed the lives of 58 people and left 231 others injured. Basha was also the founder of the extremist group Al-Umma.

NTK Chief Seeman via his official X account stated, “Tamils! Don’t be attached to ethnicity; Be a racist! Otherwise, you will be ruled, and never rule! Let us praise the great glory of the holy warrior brother Palani Baba! Naam Tamilar!”

The post has generated widespread backlash and drawn severe criticism from netizens, many of whom have condemned Seeman’s comments for promoting divisive and controversial views promoting terrorists.

Who Is Palani Baba?

Palani Baba, whose real name was Ahmed Ali, was a notorious figure in Tamil Nadu’s history of Islamic terrorism. Born in Pudhu Ayakkudi, a village near Palani in Dindigul district, Ahmed Ali was raised by his maternal uncle after the death of his parents. He became involved in nefarious activities during his college years, causing embarrassment to his family. Ali went on to establish the All India Jihad Committee (AIJC) in 1986, an Islamist fundamentalist organization, and was known for his connections to groups like the All India Milli Council, which was reportedly linked to Saudi-Wahhabi ideologies.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Tamil Nadu witnessed the rise of Islamic fundamentalist groups, and Ahmed Ali capitalized on this wave. During MGR’s rule, he became known for his controversial activities, which drew the attention of the DMK under Karunanidhi. The DMK reportedly supported him to oppose MGR, even though Ali’s rhetoric and actions were divisive, including his claims of ties with the LTTE. By 1990, Ali had garnered significant support from the DMK. It is to be noted that Ahmed Ali addressed MGR in singular in whichever public meeting he spoke. Dressed like Yasar Arafat, Ahmed Ali made vitriolic speeches against Hindus and was instrumental in fomenting violence against the Hindus especially in the Coimbatore region.

Ahmed Ali was involved in various killings of Hindus in Coimbatore. In 1990, Israeli intelligence arrested a Palestinian student who was studying in south India. During interrogation it was revealed that there was a  possible presence of internationally linked Islamic terror cells in Coimbatore. However, the Israeli warnings were rejected by local police and intelligence. Ali’s involvement in violent acts against Hindus escalated during the early 1990s, and his influence grew further with the formation of Al Ummah, a jihadist group connected to organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Pakistan’s ISI. The group was implicated in several bombings, most notably the 1998 Coimbatore bombings, which targeted prominent political figures, including LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi.

Despite his ties to DMK and other political entities like the PMK, Ali’s violent actions eventually led to a fallout with his former supporters. He was assassinated on 28 January 1997, outside his home by a group of six people, allegedly in retaliation for his anti-Hindu rhetoric and the killing of two Hindu activists earlier that year. Though his death was surrounded by controversy, including some unsubstantiated claims about personal disputes, his legacy remains one of spreading Islamic extremism in Tamil Nadu during a turbulent time.

Today, Ahmed Ali (Palani Baba) is remembered and even honored by several separatist and minority-appeasing groups, including Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and, at times, the DMK, despite his violent and extremist legacy.

SC/ST Act Case Filed Against Infosys Co-Founder, IISc Members Over Alleged Wrongful Dismissal

SC/ST Act Case Filed Against Infosys Co-Founder, IISc Members Over Alleged Wrongful Dismissal

The Sadashivanagar police have registered a case against Infosys co-founder Senapathy Kris Gopalakrishnan and 17 members of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The case follows a private complaint filed by Professor D. Sanna Durgappa, a former faculty member of IISc’s Centre for Sustainable Technologies, alleging wrongful dismissal and caste-based abuse.

The complaint, filed by Durgappa, who belongs to the Bovi community (a Scheduled Caste), accuses the IISc members of orchestrating a fake honey-trap case in 2014 to terminate his employment. He also claims he was subjected to casteist abuse and threats during his tenure.

The professor approached the 71st City Civil and Sessions Court, which directed the jurisdictional police to register a case and investigate the matter. Following the court’s orders, the police registered the case on 27 January 2025.

As per an Indian Express report, Durgappa alleged he was falsely implicated in a honey trap case in 2014 after being accused of calling a married woman “beautiful.” The case was reviewed by the Sexual Harassment Complaints Committee (SHCC), which determined the term constituted harassment, leading to his termination. Durgappa argued the SHCC violated Supreme Court guidelines by lacking an NGO representative.

In 2017, a Karnataka Legislative Assembly SC/ST committee investigation found no evidence of harassment and stated Durgappa was targeted due to his Dalit identity. Despite this, he was not reinstated. Durgappa claims he sought reinstatement during meetings with the IISc director in 2017 and 2020 but instead faced threats of legal action. Following prolonged alleged caste-based mistreatment, he turned to the court for redress.

Among the accused are notable figures, including IISc officials Govindan Rangarajan, Sridhar Warrier, Sandya Vishwswaraih, Hari K.V.S., Dasappa, Balaram P., Hemalata Mhishi, Chattopadyaya K., Pradeep D. Sawkar, and Manoharan, alongside Kris Gopalakrishnan, who serves as a member of the IISc Board of Trustees.

The allegations have sparked debate as the Supreme Court recently emphasized that not all insults against members of Scheduled Castes and Tribes qualify as offences under the SC/ST protection law.

No official response has been received from IISc faculty members or Kris Gopalakrishnan regarding the allegations. The investigation is ongoing.

Notorious Rowdy Anbu Killed In Brutal Gang Attack Near Srirangam Temple

In a shocking incident, a notorious rowdy named Anbu was brutally murdered by a gang of six individuals near the Srirangam Temple parking area on 24 January 2025. The attack occurred while he was returning home from his regular gym session.

Anbu, a resident of Lakshmi Nagar in Srirangam, Trichy, was known for his daily fitness routine. On the day of the incident, he had visited a gym in the Thiruvannai area and was on his way home when the attack took place.

According to witnesses, the gang intercepted Anbu in the Melur area and attacked him with weapons, including knives. Despite his attempts to escape, the assailants pursued him for nearly 500 meters and ultimately cornered him in the parking area of the Srirangam Temple. The gang surrounded him and hacked him to death.

Local residents alerted emergency services, and Anbu was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival. His body was found in a pool of blood, causing shock and grief among his family members and neighbors.

Following the news of the murder, Anbu’s relatives staged a road blockade, demanding immediate action against the perpetrators. More than 10 people gathered in front of the government hospital, protesting and urging the police to expedite the investigation.

Preliminary reports suggest that Anbu was associated with Dileep, another notorious rowdy in Trichy. Anbu had several criminal cases against him, leading authorities to investigate whether the murder stemmed from previous enmities.

The incident has caused unrest in the area, with police intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend the assailants. Investigations are ongoing, with officers examining multiple angles, including possible gang rivalries.

Solankuruni Villagers Petition District Collector To Restore Access To Traditional Temple Path Allegedly Blocked By Ismail, Manager Of Pvt Institution

Solankuruni villagers want to reclaim their traditional temple path, now blocked by a private institution under a Muslim management.

On 27 January 2025, more than a hundred residents from Solankuruni village near Madurai submitted a petition to District Collector M. Sangeetha, seeking permission to use the traditional path to access the Pothirajan Valliyammai temple. This path is currently blocked by a private institution under the direction of a Muslim man named Ismail, who is allegedly the manager of the institution.

The petition explained that the village has a long-standing tradition of visiting the ancient Pothirajan Kaliammai temple using the Solankuruni Koodakovil market path. This route has been used by villagers for generations, and it is customary to perform a consecration ceremony every five years, with the entire community participating in the temple festival.

The situation changed in 2006 when a private company purchased the land surrounding the path. While the previous manager had respected the villagers’ rights to use the route, the new manager allegedly a Muslim man named Ismail erected a fence and blocked the access. The police have reportedly filed a case against those who raised concerns about this blockage.

The villagers have appealed to the District Collector to take appropriate action, either by allowing them to continue using the traditional path to the temple or by creating an alternative route for worship. They have also requested the dismissal of the police case.

12 Bangladeshi Illegals Arrested In Tiruppur, Nearly 98 Arrested In January 2025 Alone

12 Bangladeshi Illegals Arrested In Tiruppur, Nearly 98 Arrested In January 2025 Alone

A total of 98 Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested in Tiruppur district in the month of January 2025 for staying without valid documents, with 36 individuals, including one woman, apprehended on Friday alone. The arrests were part of coordinated efforts by the city and district police, supported by central and state intelligence units and the anti-terrorism squad (ATS).

On 24 January 2025, ATS units from Coimbatore conducted searches across various locations in Tiruppur city based on intelligence inputs. During the operation, 20 individuals were apprehended in the 15-Velampalayam area, six in Tiruppur South, and 10 in Nallur. Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were employed as daily-wage workers in knitwear and construction companies.

A senior police officer stated that the arrested individuals were found to be staying without valid documents and following detailed investigations, they were handed over to the city police and subsequently arrested.

In addition to the 36 arrests made on 24 January 2025, 12 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested earlier this week during a raid in the Nallur area. Police conducted document verification drives, including checking Aadhaar identity cards, to identify individuals staying illegally.

Tiruppur, Coimbatore, and Erode districts employ lakhs of workers from northern states, with reports suggesting that some may be using fake documents to secure employment. The recent raids were prompted by information that a significant number of Bangladeshi nationals were working in the knitwear sector in the Tiruppur district.

Earlier this month, a similar operation led to the arrest of 28 Bangladeshi nationals. All individuals apprehended in these raids have been produced in court and sent to judicial custody.

The police have assured that search operations will continue to identify and address illegal stays in the district.

ISIS Tamil Nadu Head Abdul Basith Nabbed By NIA In Chennai, Had Brainwashed And Recruited College Students Through WhatsApp

NIA isis

In a major crackdown on extremist activities, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Abdul Basith in Chennai on 28 January 2025 for radicalising youngsters and promoting ISIS ideology. Basith, basically from Mayiladuthirai, was employed at a private ambulance service company in Purasawalkam and was detained following a raid at his residence. During the investigation, it was revealed that he was in close contact with an important ISIS leader IKMA Sadiq. Basith was considered the leader of the Tamil Nadu wing. He targeted Tamil youth and college students and brainwashed them. NIA is also conducting raids at the residences of the students who were in touch with Basith. Reports reveal that he used WhatsApp groups and Telegram channels to brainwash students.

Authorities seized a pen drive, hard disks, mobile phones, and incriminating documents during the search.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Abdul Basith operated a WhatsApp group and multiple restricted-access social media accounts aimed at targeting teenagers and young adults. These platforms were allegedly used to disseminate radical content and influence individuals toward extremist beliefs. The NIA is working to identify and track individuals connected to Basith through these channels.

IKMA Sadiq aka Sadiq Basha is from Nidur in Mayiladuthirai and was on the wanted list of 72 people by the Central Intelligence Department in India. As reported by Polimer News, IKMA Sadiq ran a martial arts institute in Chennai named IKMA and became famous because of that. He is also said to have recruited many for ISIS through that institute. Impressed by Sadiq, Basith is said to have been doing the recruitment work as revealed during the investigation. Basith incidentally worked at the ambulance service company which is located close to the NIA office in Chennai. NIA is investigating why he took up this job and also who he is in touch with in India and abroad.

The arrest was part of a larger operation that saw the NIA conduct raids at 20 locations across Tamil Nadu, including five sites in Chennai. Acting on credible intelligence, the early morning searches focused on areas where suspects were believed to be involved in propagating ISIS ideology and recruiting new members.

Official sources confirmed that these operations are linked to an ongoing investigation into ISIS-related activities. A case registered last year against ISIS sympathisers had provided leads that facilitated Tuesday’s raids. The NIA continues to probe radicalisation and recruitment networks associated with ISIS in various states across India.

Thiruthondar Trust Raises Alarm Over Missing 72,000 Acres Of Temple Land In Tamil Nadu, Vows To Recover Missing Land

Thiruthondar Trust Raises Alarm Over Missing 72,000 Acres Of Temple Land In Tamil Nadu, Vows To Recover Missing Land

Radhakrishnan, the trustee of the Thiruthondar Trust, has stated that the trust will not rest until every inch of land belonging to Hindu temples is recovered. His remarks come in the wake of a recent assembly declaration stating that the total temple land possession is 4.78 lakh acres. However, Radhakrishnan raised concerns, pointing out that a previous assembly debate had acknowledged the land to be 5.5 lakh acres, questioning why the current figures are lower. The trust has vowed to reclaim the remaining land that rightfully belongs to Hindu temples across the state.

Speaking to the media in Karur, Radhakrishnan emphasized, “We have consistently stated that approximately 5.5 lakh acres of land in Tamil Nadu belongs to temples, not only us this is a fact that was previously confirmed by the state assembly. However, in the successive sessions, they revised the figure to just 4.78 lakh acres. They have not clarified what happened to the missing acres, despite our repeated petitions to the Madras High Court and received direction from the court. Based on the court’s directives, the government conducted inspections only for name sake but no detailed report or comparative study has been made available.”

He attributed the problem to corrupt officers within the HR&CE (Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments) Department, who, he claimed, were enabling land mafia activities. Radhakrishnan laid the blame squarely on these officials and warned that if they were not identified and removed, the state would face further losses. He urged the government to take immediate action.

Addressing the people of Karur, he assured, “We will leave no inch of land behind. We will recover every piece of land that belongs to the temple in Karur, so the people need not worry.”

In a related development, in June 2021, the Madras High Court raised concerns about missing temple land. The court questioned the Tamil Nadu government over 47,000 acres of temple land that had reportedly disappeared from government records. While a policy note from 1984-85 stated that 5.25 lakh acres of temple land existed, a 2019-20 note revised that figure down to 4.78 lakh acres. Justices N. Kirubakaran and T.V. Thamilselvi directed the government to file a counter-affidavit explaining the discrepancy and providing details of the missing land, including survey numbers. The court stressed that this information should be readily available to the HR&CE department, which is responsible for the land.

The court’s interim orders followed a writ petition calling for the recovery of the missing land and its restoration to the temples, so the income from it could be used for temple maintenance, rituals, and prayers.

Ashoka University Students Protest New Security Measures, Call Them “Blatant Violation Of Privacy”

Ashoka University introduced security measures that students claim are a blatant violation of privacy, leading to protests on campus.

Ashoka University, a private institution in Haryana known for its left-leaning ideology, has introduced new security measures that the students claim are ablatant violation of privacy, leading to widespread outrage on campus.

What Sparked The Protests?

The controversy began with an email from the university’s Vice President of Operations on 13 January 2025, detailing the new security protocols. These measures include vehicle checks, prohibition of carrying cigarettes and alcohol on campus, pocket checks for students, and redirecting student movement to Gate 2.

Students criticised the new rules as invasive and an overreach of authority, demanding their immediate withdrawal. The Ashoka University Student Government (AUSG) issued a statement on 14 January 2025, alleging that while they were informed of the changes, they were not consulted before implementation. The AUSG also called for mass mobilisation and a rollback of the protocols.

A petition opposing the measures was issued shortly after the announcement and reportedly received over 1,100 signatures, including those of faculty members.

University’s Statement

In a statement, the university defended the measures, stating that they were introduced to enhance student safety and welfare. According to the university, the protocols were implemented after consultations with faculty and staff representatives, as well as the student government and campus ministry.

Despite this, students alleged that the measures involved searching vehicles, glove compartments, and belongings of taxi drivers and family members on move-in days. Some claimed they were forced to submit personal items, such as shampoo bottles, for inspection due to concerns they might be used to carry alcohol.

Protests At Gate 2

On 19 January 2025, students gathered at Gate 2 for a demonstration. Protesters accused the administration of attempting to suppress the protests by continuously wetting the atrium floor to deter gatherings, deploying additional security guards, and blocking the area with planters.

The Left-backed All India Students’ Association (AISA) expressed solidarity with the students, issuing a statement that criticised the alleged surveillance measures as a violation of constitutional privacy rights.

Why Did Students Protest?

The new measures, which took effect on 17 January 2025, included baggage scanners and metal detectors at campus entrances. These security enhancements were aimed at improving safety, but students argued that the protocols were excessive and infringed on their privacy.

The protests continue to draw attention as students, faculty, and external organisations express concerns about the balance between security and privacy on campus.
