Protests Planned Across West Bengal On First Anniversary Of RG Kar Doctor’s Rape And Murder

rg kar doctor rape murder protest anniversary

Starting from this weekend and continuing till the next, West Bengal is all set to be rocked again over protest movements by various groups on the first anniversary of the rape and murder of a woman junior doctor of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata in August last year. The body of the victim was recovered from a seminar hall within the hospital premises on the morning of August 9.

While the sole convict in the case, civic volunteer Sanjay Roy had already been sentenced to life imprisonment by a trial court, even after a year, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had been unable to complete its investigation on the alleged “larger conspiracy” behind the crime. Hence, while the movement last year was mainly targeted at the state administration in West Bengal and the ruling Trinamool Congress, this movement will have a larger perspective, also focussing on the alleged inability of the CBI to complete a fool-proof investigation in the matter.

The parents of the victim have given a ‘Nabanna Abhijan (march to the state secretariat)’ call on August 9 and appealed to all political parties to join in the procession, demanding justice for their daughter on her death anniversary.

Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, who first floated the idea of involving the victim’s parents there, has extended full-fledged support to the protest march. On Wednesday, Adhikari accused the West Bengal government of allegedly using its entire police administration to stop the protest march. The BJP leader stated that a special police briefing has been convened on Wednesday evening, which almost all top IPS officers of West Bengal Police have been asked to attend.

Using his social media handle, LoP Adhikari, without mentioning Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s name, said she has gone to Jhargram to attend her events after deploying the police force to protect the state secretariat. “Abhaya’s parents, a year after the hellish episode that happened to their child, have called for a ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ to demand answers from the state’s police and health minister for her failure over the incident. But out of that fear, the honourable person has already fled the city on the pretext of an administrative program in Jhargram!”

LoP Adhikari alleged. Sharing a copy of the police note for the briefing later in the day, the BJP leader said, “To protect her chair at the state secretariat, all the big police officers are meeting today at the police line in Shibpur, Howrah, to make arrangements for how to send the entire state police on the road!”

Besides the march to the state secretariat, several protest programmes have been announced by other pressure groups from August 8 to August 15 to observe the anniversary of the tragedy. Joint Platform of Doctors (JPD), West Bengal, Medical Service Centre, Service Doctors affiliated to All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO), West Bengal Doctors’ Forum, and Association of Health Service Doctors, will organise multiple protest movements.

The convenor of JPD, Punyabrata, said that the state government had failed miserably in ensuring the safety and security of Bengal’s daughters in hospitals and colleges. “Even after the tragic incident at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital a year ago, another rape took place in a law college in South Kolkata. This shows that there is a need to hit the streets once again to demand justice for our daughter and hold the government accountable,” Punyabrata added.

On August 8, the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Forum (WBJDF) will take out a torch rally from College Square to Shyambazar in north Kolkata at 9 P.M. and from midnight to 4 A.M. the next day, they will organise a sit-in at Shyambazar five-point crossing.

On August 9, JPD and Abhaya Mancha will tie rakhis in the morning to send the message of providing safety and security to the people. At 4 P.M., doctors will assemble at Hazra crossing to take out a march to Kalighat, near Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence. At 6 P.M. on the same day, the WBHDF has given a call for a gathering at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital.

On August 14, rallies and protest meetings will be organised by doctors and the common people. At midnight, another ‘Reclaim the Night’ event has been planned across Kolkata where the common man, including women of the household, will take to the streets to demand justice.

Sirsa, Haryana: Woman Succumbs To Rabies Days After Being Bitten By Dog She Was Feeding

Rabies Cases On The Rise In Dravidian Model Tamil Nadu, Highest In 5 Years pitbull one health vaccination dog bite

A 38-year-old woman from Sirsa district succumbed to rabies on Monday, 4 August 2025, 19 days after being bitten by a stray dog while feeding it outside her home. The deceased, Varsha Rani Mehta, was attacked on the night of 17 July 2025 in Bijnuwali village while offering food to the dog.

The dog bit her on the forehead. She received three doses of the anti-rabies vaccine at the Dabwali Civil Hospital but did not receive the critical rabies immunoglobulin injection that should have been administered directly to the wound, according to doctors at AIIMS Bathinda, where she was later shifted in a critical condition. Her husband has alleged medical negligence by the Dabwali hospital.

Varsha began showing classic symptoms of rabies, including hydrophobia and anxiety, on 3 August 2025 and passed away two days later. Prior to her death, the family had also taken her to an Ayurvedic practitioner in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, after her condition worsened despite hospital treatment. The temporary relief she experienced was short-lived as the infection had advanced significantly.

Local residents said the same stray dog had bitten more than two dozen people in the area before it died. They accused authorities of inaction, citing official restrictions on capturing or culling stray animals.

Varsha Rani, wife of Jitendra Kumar alias Vijay Mehta, belonged to a family that runs a wholesale shop at the Dabwali bus stand. Her tragic death has sparked anger among villagers and renewed concerns over the rising stray dog population and inadequate rural healthcare facilities.

The Educated Jihadis: These Cases That Show Lack Of Education Or Poverty Is Not A Reason For Islamists To Become Terrorists

The myth that education prevents Islamic terrorism, particularly the claim that “If Muslims were educated, they wouldn’t become terrorists,” is a misconception. Uddhav Sena MP Sanjay Raut also echoed this idea saying people turn to terrorism because of lack of livelihood and education.

Most recently, on 3 August 2025, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (UP-ATS) arrested Dr. Osama Maj Sheikh, a homeopathic doctor from Maharashtra, and Ajmal Ali, a resident of Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. Investigators revealed they were active in a WhatsApp group titled “Revival of Islam,” with a majority of members based in Pakistan.

Notorious Maoist Leader Martin Kerketta Shot Dead During Anti-Naxal Operation By Jharkhand Police

Jharkhand Police gunned down top Maoist Martin Kerketta, the self-styled supremo of the banned outfit People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), during an encounter in Gumla district late Tuesday night, officials said on 6 August 2025.

According to Gumla SP Haris Bin Zama, police received intelligence inputs that an armed PLFI squad led by Kerketta had arrived in the Changabari Upartoli area under Kamdara police station to extort money from a local businessman. Acting swiftly, a special police team, including the district’s anti-Naxal Quick Response Team (QRT) and forces from two police station areas, launched a cordon-and-search operation. On spotting the advancing forces, Kerketta and his associates opened fire, triggering a retaliatory gunfight in which Kerketta was killed on the spot.

Arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site. Following the encounter, a massive search operation was launched in the region to trace other members of the squad. Kerketta, a native of Redma village in Kamdara, had been closely associated with former PLFI chief Dinesh Gop and rose through the ranks of the organisation. He assumed command of the outfit after Gop’s arrest from Nepal two years ago and was also a central committee member of the PLFI.

He was reportedly involved in several high-profile acts of violence and extortion. Kerketta had earlier escaped police encounters on at least two occasions. Speaking to the media, SP Haris Bin Zama said, “PLFI supremo Martin Kerketta, who had a reward of Rs 15 lakh on his head, has been killed in an operation by Gumla police. This is a significant success in our anti-Naxal campaign.”

Tiruppur: Special Sub-Inspector Brutally Hacked To Death By Father-Son Duo At AIADMK MLA’s Estate

special sub inspector ssi tn murder case encounter

In a shocking and tragic incident, a Special Sub-Inspector (SI) of Tamil Nadu Police was brutally hacked to death by a father-son duo at an estate belonging to AIADMK MLA Mahendran in Tiruppur district. The incident occurred during the late hours of 5 August 2025.

The deceased officer, Shanmughavel, hailed from Thalavai Pattinam near Dharapuram and was serving at the Kudimangalam Police Station near Udumalpet.

According to police sources, a dispute had reportedly taken place between the father and son, who were employed at the private estate owned by Madathukulam AIADMK MLA Mahendran. Following a complaint about the altercation, Special SI Shanmughavel had gone to the estate in 5 August late hours to investigate the matter and conduct an inquiry. However, upon reaching the estate, the officer encountered the father and son, who were allegedly in an inebriated state.

During the inquiry, an argument broke out, and in a sudden escalation, the duo attacked the officer with sickles. Shanmughavel sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the brutal assault. Local residents, who heard the commotion, informed the police. A team of officers rushed to the scene and recovered Shanmughavel’s body, which was later sent for post-mortem to a nearby government hospital.

The incident has caused widespread shock and outrage, particularly because it occurred on the premises of a sitting legislator. Senior police officials visited the crime scene and have ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the murder. A large-scale manhunt has been launched to apprehend the absconding father and son. Multiple police teams are involved in the search operation, combing nearby villages and potential hideouts. Initial investigations suggest the motive behind the attack was a mix of intoxication and a possible fear of legal consequences.

The suspects are reportedly habitual offenders with a history of unruly behaviour. The brutal killing of a police officer while on duty has been strongly condemned by political leaders and police personnel alike. Authorities have assured that the culprits will be brought to justice swiftly and have emphasised the need for enhanced protection for officers during field investigations.

‘Graveyard Of Democracy’: Awami League Student Wing Slams Yunus-Led Interim Bangladesh Government

The Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of the Awami League, has launched a scathing attack on the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government, accusing it of dismantling democratic institutions and pushing the nation toward becoming a “failed and fragmented state.”

The student body claimed that Bangladesh has effectively turned into a “graveyard of democracy” under the current regime. The student body asserted that the defeated anti-liberation forces “Jamaat-Shibir, fundamentalist-communal groups, and terrorist-militant factions” under the command of Yunus, have continued their “spree of killings, attacks, terrorism, and destruction” that began in July-August 2024. “Democratic norms, the rule of law, freedom of speech, human rights, and voting rights – all are now on life support in the ICU. Exploiting the emotions of the people, the ideals of justice and values, the collective strength, the protesting spirit and participation of the youth- killers infiltrated, struck at the heart, awakened pain, spread anger through brutal killings, lynched police officers, unleashed terror, and took society, the state, the law, and democracy hostage,” read a statement issued by the Students’ League.

“By attempting to assassinate Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister elected by the people’s vote, they have turned August 5, 2024, into a dark day of democracy, student, people, and police killings,” the statement added. Slamming the Yunus-led interim government, the student body alleged that “jungle law has been established” in Bangladesh, as by granting indemnity, Yunus has provided “state protection to his terrorist-militant forces”, allowing them to “commit crimes against humanity under state patronage”. “The killers of democracy, students, people, and police have been seated on the throne of power. The people have been reduced to worthless, honorless, hopeless beings. Venom of despair and hatred has been spread across minds and communities. The air is heavy with heart-wrenching cries, silent sobs, and suffocating groans,” the Students’ League mentioned.

“With deep respect for the collective strength of the people’s aspirations, rooted in the values of Bangladesh’s great Liberation War, and pledging justice for the victims and injured of this meticulously planned killing mission, we vow to put an end to this oppression and backwardness. Justice will be served,” it added. The Students’ League vowed to uproot “all anti-Bangladesh evil forces” while restoring democracy, voting rights, the rule of law, progress, and human dignity. Describing 5 August as “Democracy, Student-People-Police Killing Day”, the student body extended condolences to all the people killed and expressed solidarity with the injured, calling them its source of “strength and courage”.

DMK Stooge Actor Suriya’s Agaram Foundation Allows Anti-Hindu Dravidianists And DMK Propagandists To Teach Kids

actor suriya agaram foundation

Virtue-signaling actor and a filtered DMK stooge Suriya along with his family is known for peddling propaganda against the Modi government’s policies like NEET, National Education Policy, farm laws etc while buttressing the DMK in the state.

Recently, DMK-aligned Dravidianist YouTuber Senthil Vel has exposed this that all anti-Hindu orators from the Dravidar Kazhagam have been given a platform within the foundation. More shockingly, Periyarists like Mathivadhani and Arulmozhi are reportedly conducting classes for the poor who come seeking aid.

This raises concerns that Suriya may be using his foundation as a tool to indoctrinate people with anti-Hindu and anti-India ideas, effectively recruiting individuals to propagate Dravidian ideology.

Senthil Vel stated in his video, “The Agaram Foundation doesn’t just provide education. Along with that, it teaches them about social justice. They keep volunteers to teach them in classes, and they go to those classes to study. If you had seen the attendees of that function, I’m telling about the friends I know, they are journalist who have been continuously speaking about education. Brother Karthigaichelvan, the news editor of News18 Tamil Nadu, participated in this event. My dear sister Maha came with her children. My loving sister Mathivadhani also participated, and Mathi regularly go there to teach those children, continuously giving them lessons on social justice. All these people travel with the students. So, social justice is being taught there, isn’t it? If you think about it, advocate Arulmozhi, and everyone who participated in that event, including actor Kamal Haasan, spoke against NEET on that stage. All these people are passionate about education for our children, wanting our children to study.”

The controversy deepens when considering the backgrounds of the individuals involved—all of whom have a history of Periyarist, anti-Hindu, anti-Brahmin, and anti-India rhetoric.

Dravidian Stockist Mathivadhani

M. Mathivadhani, Deputy General Secretary of the Dravidar Kazhagam, has repeatedly made derogatory remarks, including mocking Union Home Minister Amit Shah and disparaging those with the surname “Shah.”

Mathivadhani in a undated video be heard saying, the Home Minister Amit Shah, everyone talked about him. It’s not just Amit Shah, even if it’s Shah, Shoe, or whoever comes, the BJP cannot win even a single seat in Tamil Nadu. Knowing they cannot get even a single seat, they are coming along with the ADMK. The ADMK also cannot win even a single seat because you are with the BJP. They went and asked Amit Shah why you didn’t provide the jobs for the two-crore people. Home Minister Amit Shah replied ‘Jhumla’. It means he said it casually (summa sonaru). In which country would this kind of joke happen? Would this mockery happen? Would people believe this? At a time when the youth are looking for employment, last week, not like 20 or 30 years ago, a news report came out last week in India Today stating that Tamil Nadu is the leading state in India in the manufacturing sector.”

She has also used Periyar’s rhetoric to criticize judicial decisions, implying Brahmin bias in courts, and has drawn backlash for promoting divisive caste-based narratives.

In a previous incident, following a legal setback for the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government, she made similarly controversial remarks. On 21 May 2025, the Madras High Court comprising Justices G.R. Swaminathan and V. Lakshminarayan issued an interim stay on the state government’s amendments that aimed to strip the Governor of the authority to appoint Vice-Chancellors in state-run universities. Reacting to the ruling, Mathivadhani referenced the words of E.V. Ramasamy Naicker (also called as Periyar) to criticize the judgment, insinuating that when Brahmins hold judicial positions, the verdicts tend to reflect caste bias. Her remarks drew widespread backlash for casting aspersions on the judiciary and promoting divisive rhetoric.

She stated “A country where the Paapan (derogatory slur denoting Brahmins) becomes the judge and the ruler is like a jungle inhabited by a ferocious tiger. That is why we are engaged in a tiger hunt. When the tiger leaps, one or two people are bound to get hit! – Thanthai Periyar”

Similarly during the horrific Pahalgam attack that claimed 25 innocent Hindu lives, Mathivadhani blamed “Sanghis” and accused them of inciting religious tensions, further fueling communal controversy.

In a inflammatory post, she claimed, “The Sanghis have started to paint a religious picture to hide their defeat. Even before they could write condolence messages to those who suffered the loss, they had already started using religion to incite riots. They are the threat to India!”

Dravidianist Journo Karthigaichelvan

Karthigalchelvan is a Dravidian propagandist journalist and a Modi-baiter. He has come under fire for some of his buttressing attitude towards the DMK. He had a sycophantic interview with DMK scion Udhayanidhi Stalin in which he posed soft, easy and simping questions that felt more like scripted PR.

A few years ago, he conducted a similar interview with the current Chief Minister, MK Stalin, which also faced public backlash for lacking tough questioning. In a compilation of multiple interviews featuring Stalin, he appears to follow a repetitive pattern, asking questions about his fitness routine, preparations for long journeys, sources of energy for campaigning, and how he readies himself for such activities.

Pro-DMK Behavior Exhibited By Karthigaichelvan

During a debate on News18 Tamil in June 2023, moderated by Karthigaichelvan, when one of the panelists Advocate Tamil Mani accused Senthil Balaji of corruption, citing his admission to taking money for job placements. Karthigaichelvan defended Senthil Balaji, claiming the ongoing case made labeling him corrupt premature. Despite a DMK spokesperson’s insults, Karthigaichelvan tried to maintain neutrality, softly condemning Saravanan from DMK towards the end.

During a News18 Tamil Nadu debate in October 2022, Karthigaichelvan and DMK spokesperson Constantine Raveendran faced criticism for allegedly protecting CM MK Stalin over a fake news claim related to the Sterlite protest firing. Hindu Munnani’s A.T. Elangovan pointed out the incident where Stalin falsely implicated PM Modi, but Raveendran demanded proof, limiting Elangovan’s response. Karthigaichelvan claimed ignorance and declined to express an opinion.

Modi Hate

In the past, Karthigaichelvan had consistently expressed animosity towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In 2015, he shared a derogatory cartoon (now deleted) suggesting that the Union Government, led by Narendra Modi, was influenced by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Karthigaichelvan shared cartoons mocking PM Modi, implying he acts as per Hindu or secular sentiments. One cartoon depicted Modi hitch-hiking on Karunanidhi’s wheelchair during a courtesy visit. Another mocked Digital India, accompanied by a euphoric caption “Hahahaha.”

Once he was called out by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for deliberately trying to peddle anti-Modi propaganda saying that the Centre was waiving off loans taken by corporates.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted widespread searches across Tamil Nadu on 6 March 2025 investigating large-scale financial irregularities linked to the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC). The operation, carried out under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, uncovered a deep-rooted network of bribery, kickbacks, and systematic corruption amounting to a ₹1,000 Crore Scam. However not one news card was shared by him.

His repeated promotion of anti-Modi propaganda, combined with his political leanings, raises serious questions about the ideological influence on students who attend classes at Agaram Foundation.

In light of these affiliations and actions, the involvement of such politically motivated individuals in educating vulnerable communities through Agaram Foundation is deeply concerning for the future of students exposed to this environment.
