Shocking: Family attacked, house set on fire for converting from Islam to Hinduism

A police complaint has been filed against five individuals, two of whom have been apprehended, for allegedly attacking a family and torching their house months after they had converted to Hinduism from Islam in Rae Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The police and the fire brigade team were able to douse the fire on time and save the family who were trapped inside the house.

Police have been deployed in the area.

Mohammed Anwar, resident of Ataganj Ratason village in the Salon area of Rae Bareilly, had converted to Hinduism in September of last year, and had changed his name to Dev Prakash. He had also renamed his children as Devnath, Deendayal and Durga. According to reports, Dev Prakash lives alone with his kids after the death of his first wife. He has married four times but his subsequent marriages did not work out.

Dev Prakash has alleged that former village pradhan Mohammed Tahir and his associates were upset with him for converting to Hinduism. He has further alleged that Tahir and his brother Rehan were the ones who set fire to his house. Dev Prakash also said that he was planning to build a temple on his land next to his house, and that this decision had angered some people.

Shlok Kumar, SP Rae Bareilly, has said that Tahir, Rehan and three others have been charged with mischief by fire or explosive substance and rioting. “Preliminary probe suggests that Prakash and Tahir also had a dispute over a piece of land. We are probing the case from all angles. Tahir and his brother have been detained and are being questioned,” he said.

After the incident was reported, leaders of Hindu Yuva Vahini reached the spot and took cognisance of the situation.

India to deploy long range nuclear-capable ballistic missile Agni V capable of hitting any Chinese city

In the last three months of 2020, India launched 30 successful missions to test the capability of its missiles and now there are plans to deploy nuclear-capable ballistic missile Agni-V this year, reports The New Indian Express.

Once inducted, the Agni-V will be India’s long-range nuclear deterrence with a strike range of 5,000 to 8,000 km which would mean India will be able to strike all the important Chinese cities, including Beijing.

Agni V will give India options to retaliate against any Chinese nuclear attack as laid out in the nuclear doctrine and is undergoing its pre-induction trials after which it can be deployed at strategic locations as selected by the armed forces.

This missile will also be canisterised which provides the necessary operational flexibility to the forces and canisterisation also allows the missile to be kept in a state of readiness, makes camouflaging the missile easier and permits rapid launch.

Since the missile will not be housed in any silos it is even more deadly because being a road-mobile launcher, the missile can be moved from one location to another as per operational need in times of heightened conflict to avoid detection by enemy satellites.

Such flexibility gives our civilian leadership and military commanders options on survivability in a preemptive or second strike.

Agni-V is a solid-fueled missile and offers the benefit of a quick response and it is easy to store and transport a solid-fueled missile longer storage.

However, fueling a liquid-fueled missile for launch takes more time and when not in use, the liquid fuel must be drained out from the missile due to its highly corrosive nature and must be stored separately which leads to other complications. 

Bharat Biotech ready to test Covid-19 vaccine on children

On the heels of the announcement of by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech, which developed India’s first indigenous Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin, the serum manufacturing company is now planning to start the test of its vaccine on the children aged between two and 15 years, reports Economic Times.

Covaxin is India’s first indigenous Covid-19 vaccine which has received emergency use approval from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) and was developed in collaboration with Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

“…we are now planning a clinical trial on children between two and 15 years. We are going to submit (proposal) to SEC (subject expert committee) soon for that,” Bharat Biotech chairman Dr Krishna Ella was quoted as saying during a virtual interaction with the media persons.

According to the report, Bharat Biotech will be the first Covid-19 vaccine candidate to begin testing on children in September.

In the Phase 2 trials of the Covaxin in September, a double-blinded study has already been conducted on 380 volunteers in the age bracket of 12 to 65 years.

Ella said that Covaxin is an “inactivated virus vaccine based on a tried and tested Vero cell platform” that has been used for multiple vaccines. “The injectable polio vaccine we have given to a newborn baby… it’s a proven platform and the safest to give to children,” he said.

Islamists turn berserk, go on hypocritical Twitter rant after tourists pose with saffron flags in front of Taj Mahal

Now that tourist attractions are open to the public after the ‘Unlock’ guidelines in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, some members of the Hindu Jagran Manch visited the Taj Mahal on Monday. They also waved saffron flags in front of the 17th century mausoleum and posed for photographs. However, four persons, including the outfit’s youth wing district president were soon arrested. They were charged under section 153 A (Promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion) of IPC and Section 7 of The Criminal Law Amendment Act at Tajganj police station based on a complaint filed by the CISF.

Unfortunately, the waving of saffron flags did not go down well with Islamists on Twitter. Triggered, they ranted on the social media platform, going as far as casting aspersions on the security personnel stationed at the tourist spot.

Some even made shocking allegations that Hindus in government service, serving in any capacity, were incapable of being loyal to India’s Constitution!

Also triggered by the colour saffron was noted performer Swara Bhaskar, who made the astounding — and deeply mystifying — mental leap that simply waving saffron flags on the premises of a Mughal-era mausoleum was tantamount to “vandalism”.

It is hilarious that the same people — self-confessed liberals, no less — have a problem with people simply waving saffron flags in front of a public monument, while they see no issue with namaz offered inside a temple.

Several netizens then went on to praise the Mughals for building the structure, making crude attempts at basking in reflected glory (if the word ‘glory’ could be associated with the Mughal Empire, that is). They also called the sightseers ‘sanghis’, ‘goons’, ‘thugs’, ‘chaddis’, ‘extremists’ etc.

Another netizen went on to make a bold statement about the revenue generated from the Taj Mahal.

It must be noted that while the revenue generated from the Taj Mahal (which is only a mausoleum of national importance) was roughly ₹86.5 crores in 2018-19, the annual revenue generated for the State from just one Hindu temple in Karnataka — the Kukke Subrahmanya Temple — was ₹89 crore, as reported in April 2018. One can only speculate on the entire revenue generated for the State from thousands of temples that are under government control across the country.

MEA writes letter to ECI to allow disenfranchised NRIs cast vote via ETPBS

The Ministry for External Affairs has written a letter he Election Commission that it is in favor of allowing non-resident Indians (NRIs) to vote remotely through electronically-transmitted postal ballot system (ETPBS), reports Times of India.

On 27 November 2019, the EC had already made a proposal to make amendments to the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961 “at the earliest” which would have allowed hundreds of thousands of Indian diaspora to vote through postal ballots. 

The EC, in its letter to the Law Secretary on 27 November, had made it very clear that it is “technically and administratively” ready to extend the facility in the coming elections to the legislative assemblies of West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala.

If this proposal is agreed upon, it will enable the NRIs to cast votes from their country of residence for state and general elections.

At present, NRIs do not have option to case there vote in the country of there recedence and have to be physically present in their respective constituencies in India to cast there vote which is personally costly for them.

This way hundreds of thousands of Indians who have so far been disfranchised due to a technicality and logisitics can now exercise their right to franchise expecially for those working in the Middle Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait etc.

At present, the ETPBS facility is only available to those who serve in the armed forces and the para-military forces and government employees who are serving abroad in various missions.

As the number of attacks on Hindu temples increases in Andhara Pradesh, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has alleged that these attacks on temples are an act of conspiracy by political opponents to defame and brand it “anti-Hindu”.

CM Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday (4 January) gave an explanation to his theory that all attacks on Hindu temples occur only when some prestigious welfare programmes were being launched by his government and deplored that his political rivals would stoop to such low by not even sparing God to reap dividends

“Who benefits from breaking God’s idols? Who will benefit from the crimes in temples and religious places? Who will benefit by inflaming the passions of people and resorting to violence? Who will benefit by propaganda hurting the public faith and poisonous propaganda?” he asked.

Reddy gave examples of nine temple attacks in the southern state which according to him with some mega welfare schemes. For example, on 14 November 2019 when the Nadu-Nadu scheme aimed at bringing government schools on par with corporate schools was launched, reports of a temple being desecrated in Guntur emerged.

“Going to some far off deserted place or village, sometime in the midnight, they go to a small temple and break idols and the next day they publicise it on the social media and the opposition leaders go there to politicise while the yellow media exaggerates it,” he said.

He also said that when he the price stabilisation fund worth Rs 3,000 crore was launched on 15 January 2020, reports on some idols being broken in Pithapuram had emerged. He went on to give more such examples of Hindu temple descriptions when government schemes were launched.

Reddy was categorical that the opposition parties are adding fuel to fire to divert public attention on the welfare schemes and attempts are being made to communally tarnish his party which has a majority in the AP assembly.

“The society has deteriorated to such an extent that nobody fears or respects God. For the sake of politics, even God is not being spared. God is also being brought to politics and with God politics, some people are aiming to benefit and we are going to the climax of kalyug,” he alleged.

Reddy called these attacks to “guerrilla warfare tactics”, and called out on Telugu Desam Party President, N Chandrababu Naidu for “making all efforts to spin these incidents into political and religious issues in a state not known for religious divide”.

In the meanwhile, Endowments Minister Velampalli Srinivas has said that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has ordered a CID probe into the desecration of idol in Ramateertham temple and asserted that the culprits would be nabbed in a few days.

Strategically important Banihal-Qazigund tunnel in J&K to be open by end of March

The strategically important 8.5-km long double tube Banihal-Qazigund tunnel along the 270-km Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is nearing completion.

According to reports in the Financial Express, this tunnel will be opened for public use by the end of March giving easy connectivity to Jammu and Kashmir.

Once this road is completed, it will not only be very easy for civilians to move more freely, it will also enable swift movement of troops. 

This tunnel will connect Banihal in Jammu to Qazigund in South Kashmir would bypass the Jawahar tunnel and Shaitan Nalla, which receives heavy snowfall and due to slippery conditions during the winters driving is very dangerous.

Also, since this tunnel is 400 metres lower than the elevation of the Jawahar tunnel, it is less prone to avalanches and it cuts the distance between Jammu’s Banihal and South Kashmir’s Qazigund by 16 km from the present 35 km.

The new tunnel has state-of-the-art exhaust system and engineers are also working to install as many as 126 jet fans, 234 CCTVs and a firefighting system.

The work on this tunnel began in June 2011, at a cost of Rs 2,100 crore. Although this project should have been completed a long time ago,  there were several delays and missed several deadlines due to unexpected land conditions, an alleged financial crisis in the construction firm, and issues related to local landlords and company staff.

Tamil Nadu CM announces state holiday for Thai Poosam

Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palaniswami announced a state holiday for Thai Poosam on Tuesday. In a press release, he had mentioned how Murugan is one of the most revered Hindu gods and the importance of Thai Poosam for those who worship him. He added that the festival has been widely celebrated all over the world in countries like Malaysia and Singapore.

“The public from far and wide requested for Thai Poosam to be declared a public holiday whenever I travelled throughout the state. They also emphasised saying that it was already a holiday in countries like Sri Lanka and Mauritius. Hence, I announce that Thaipusam on January 28 will be a public holiday in the state and Thaipusam will be included in the public holiday calendar for the coming years,” he said in the release.

BJP Tamil Nadu President Dr. L. Murugan thanked CM Palaniswami for the move who during the month long Vel Yatrai urged the Tamil Nadu government to declare Thai Poosam as a state holiday.

Lord Murugan has been in the news a lot off late, especially ever since Karuppar Kootam, a rabid YouTube channel run by ‘Periyarists’ with links to the DMK set off a storm by abusing Kandha Sashti Kavasam, a hymn dedicated to the Hindu God. BJP Tamil Nadu President L. Murugan hit the streets with his Vetri Vel Yatra recently in protest against the Karuppar Koottam and its backers. The BJP has alleged that DMK and its allies are behind the Karuppar Koottam.

Thai Poosam is widely acknowledged to be the birthday of Lord Murugan. Some legends acknowledge it as the day when Goddess Parvati handed over the vel to her son, Lord Murugan.
