'Why Didn't Buses Stop During Five Years Of DMK Rule? Isn't Anitha Radhakrishnan From The DMK? Women Grill Kanimozhi Over Bus Stop Without Bus Service In Thoothukudi

DMK MP Kanimozhi faced an awkward moment in Thoothukudi district after local women confronted her over the lack of bus services at a newly inaugurated bus stop, questioning the purpose of inaugurating the facility when buses allegedly continue to bypass it.

The incident took place after Kanimozhi, the Member of Parliament for the Thoothukudi constituency, inaugurated a newly constructed bus stop in the Odakarai area of Kayalpattinam.

Soon after the inauguration, a group of women approached the MP and complained that buses were not stopping at the newly built shelter. They urged her to ensure that buses began halting there within a week so that residents could actually benefit from the facility.

Responding to the demand, Kanimozhi said, “If I were the Chief Minister, I would have done it within a week.”

Her response, however, did not go down well with the women.

They immediately objected, asking her not to respond in that manner and continued pressing for a concrete assurance that buses would stop at the location.

Rather than engaging further, Kanimozhi smiled and walked away without offering any additional explanation, according to videos of the incident that have since gone viral on social media.

As the MP left, the women expressed their frustration, asking, “Is it enough just to inaugurate a bus stop? Shouldn’t the buses actually stop there?”

Women Question DMK’s Accountability

The residents also questioned why the issue remained unresolved despite the constituency being represented by the DMK.

They pointed out that although the DMK is no longer in power in Tamil Nadu, the local MLA, Anitha Radhakrishnan, belongs to the same party.

“Even if the DMK isn’t currently in power, isn’t Anitha Radhakrishnan the MLA for this constituency? He belongs to the DMK, doesn’t he? If he wanted to, couldn’t he get it done?” the women asked.

The residents further questioned why buses had not been made to stop at the location during the previous five years when the DMK was in power in the State.

The exchange has since sparked discussion online, with the viral video drawing attention to local grievances over public transport connectivity despite the inauguration of new infrastructure.

Residents have urged the authorities to ensure that buses begin halting at the Odakarai bus stop so that the facility serves its intended purpose rather than remaining only an inaugurated structure.
