DMK-Supporting Dravidianist Shares Derogatory Image Of Congress MP Manickam Tagore

With Congress leader Manickam Tagore firing salvo after salvo each passing day at the DMK, reminding the party that the Congress is demanding a share in power as well as an increase in seat allocation for the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, DMK-supporting Dravidianist “Dr” Aravind Raja on 17 February 2026 picked a picture featuring Tagore and a few other Congress leaders and claimed Tagore was being “directed” by Thuglaq editor S Gurumurthy.

In his post, Aravind Raja shared a photograph featuring Tagore alongside other Congress leaders and claimed Gurumurthy was seen “directing” him. He captioned the image, “Script, direction Gurumurthy”

However, it later emerged that the person in the photograph was not Gurumurthy.

Responding to the post, Gurumurthy wrote, “I wish I had so much hair (as Unnithan whose photo is shown as mine has) on my head which is almost 80% empty. I had this much hair as Unnithan 20 years as before when none of these guys were in politics… This idiot didn’t even choose a better photo to fake it as mine”

Despite the misidentification being publicly pointed out, Aravind Raja did not delete the post. He subsequently shared what critics described as an even more derogatory image targeting both Tagore and Gurumurthy.

Aravind Raja later came up with an even more derogatory image of Tagore and Gurumurthy as below:

The exchange appears to have been triggered by Gurumurthy’s earlier political assessment shared alongside a report regarding the DMK seeking action against Tagore. Gurumurthy had written, “If congress leaves DMK, inevitably joins TVK, DMK will be voted out, TVK will not win, NDA will win. Rahul will lose his most reliable ally at Delhi against Modi. With Cong turning enemy DMK will look like a fool having stood by Rahul. Congress needs DMK in Delhi and DMK needs congress in TN. It will be foolish for both to turn against each other. It will not be just loss of a friend for both but an enemy more for both. BJP will enjoy that happening.”

As of the time of publication, neither the misidentified post nor the derogatory image had been removed from Aravind Raja’s X handle.

Former Chief Economic Advisor Kaushik Basu Mocks Politicians On Data, Here’s How He Came Up With ‘GEP’ Metric To Buttress Congress Govt’s Poor Economic Performance

Former Chief Economic Advisor and current taxi driver storyteller Kaushik Basu has come under renewed criticism after his recent remark taking a swipe at politicians drew attention to his earlier controversial economic ranking that had placed India fifth globally in “economic clout.”

Basu had written, “One trait many politicians share with Aristotle is the refusal to look at data. Aristotle believed till the end of his life that women have fewer teeth than men.”

The comment has triggered pushback from netizens, who pointed to Basu’s own past use of unconventional metrics.

In 2011, during the UPA government led by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Basu authored a study that ranked India fifth in the world in terms of “wielding economic clout,” as reported at the time. Notably, India was then the 10th largest economy globally by standard GDP measures.

Instead of relying on GDP size, Basu’s framework used what he termed Government Economic Power (GEP), an alternative indicator intended to capture the global influence exercised by governments. Based on this metric, India was placed behind the United States, China, Japan and Germany.

The study had drawn skepticism even then, with critics arguing that shifting from widely accepted GDP comparisons to a newly framed index risked overstating India’s relative global position.

With Basu now accusing politicians of ignoring data, detractors say his own past reliance on unconventional economic yardsticks has returned to the spotlight, reigniting debate over the credibility and policy relevance of the GEP measure.

Pinarayi Suffers Meltdown Over Kerala Story 2, Here’s What Achuthanandhan Warned About Love Jihad

Pinarayi Suffers Meltdown Over Kerala Story 2, Here's What Achuthanandhan Warned About Love Jihad

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday, 19 February 2026, suffered a meltdown with regard to the upcoming film The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, urging that the sequel be viewed with “utmost gravity” and alleging that it attempts to malign the State’s secular image.

The reaction came days after filmmaker Vipul Amrutlal Shah unveiled the trailer of the sequel on 17 February 2026. Like its predecessor, the film has already sparked political and public debate ahead of its scheduled theatrical release on February 27.

Taking to X, Vijayan wrote, “The reports regarding the release of a sequel to the hate-mongering film The Kerala Story should be seen with utmost gravity. Having already seen through the communal agenda and blatant lies of the first part, Kerala will once again reject this attempt to demonise our secular fabric with contempt.”

He further stated, “It is shocking how fabricated narratives aimed at inciting communal discord receive a free pass, while critical expressions of art get gagged. We must stand united against these attempts to paint our land of harmony as a hub of terror. The truth shall always prevail.”

Achuthanandan’s Past Warning

The controversy has also revived references to remarks made years ago by former Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan regarding alleged “Love Jihad” activities.

In a past statement, Achuthanandan had said: “First, they started under the name NDF, they gave training, money, and weapons to young people, using them to kill those opposed or hostile to them. Or else, they do things like this: cutting off hands, cutting off legs, these are their activities.”

He had further warned, “In 20 years, Kerala will become a Muslim majority state; by influencing all young people, by giving money, converting them to Islam, marrying Muslim girls so Muslim children are born, and in this way, a move is being made with the intention of creating a majority for the Muslim community.”

Kerala Story 2

The original The Kerala Story (2023) had generated nationwide controversy over its depiction of alleged forced religious conversions and recruitment of women by the Islamic State. Despite the backlash, the film later won two honours at the 71st National Film Awards, best director for Sudipto Sen and best cinematography for Prasantanu Mohapatra.

The sequel’s trailer presents three parallel narratives involving Hindu women who allegedly face coercion and religious conversion after relationships with Muslim men. One storyline unfolds in Rajasthan involving a POCSO complaint by the parents of a minor girl; another is set in Madhya Pradesh involving alleged deception in marriage; and the third takes place in Kerala involving a live-in relationship that escalates into conflict over conversion.

Promoting the trailer, the makers stated, “They targeted our daughters. They broke their trust. They stole their futures. This time, we do not stay silent. The story goes beyond. Is baar sahenge nahi… ladenge.”

Starring Ulka Gupta, Aditi Bhatia and Aishwarya Ojha, the film is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and co-produced by Aashin A. Shah under the Sunshine Pictures banner.

The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond is scheduled to release in theatres on 27 February 2026.

No Christians In Area, Yet Church/Cemetery Construction Work Resumes: Tamil Nadu’s Panamangalam Villagers Protest

No Christians In Area, Yet Church/Cemetery Construction Work Resumes: Panamangalam Villagers Protest

Tension has resurfaced in and around Panamangalam village under the Sirkazhi Municipality after residents objected to renewed construction activity related to a proposed Christian church near a local temple.

Panamangalam and nearby habitations such as Nadutheru, Vadakku Theru, Thekkutheru and Kumaranatham together house more than 5,000 residents. Locals state that the area is inhabited by Hindus from various communities and that the Veerankovil temple serves as the primary place of worship for villagers.

According to villagers, a few years ago a church committee began efforts to construct a new Christian church close to the Veerankovil temple despite there being no members of other faiths residing in the immediate area. The move triggered strong opposition from local residents, who gathered in large numbers and protested the proposed construction.

Following the protests, peace talks were reportedly held between officials and villagers. Residents say it was then indicated that construction should not proceed without the consent of the local community, and the issue was temporarily halted.

However, villagers now allege that repair and preparatory works have resumed at the site in recent weeks. They claim that church representatives had earlier planned to proceed through an inauguration event and that the proposal also included a cemetery attached to the church, which had heightened local concerns at the time.

Residents further state that when attempts were previously made to move forward, the entire village mobilised and blocked the effort, leading to legal steps and the installation of a peace notice indicating that no work should proceed without the knowledge and cooperation of the village.

According to local claims, fresh applications were recently submitted seeking No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for both the church and the proposed cemetery, and approvals were allegedly obtained, after which work resumed over the past month.

Villagers have questioned the necessity of the project, stating that across roughly 2,000 families in the four surrounding habitations there is reportedly not a single Christian household. They have argued that the proposed construction has therefore caused apprehension among residents.

In response, residents of Panamangalam have submitted a petition to the Mayiladuthurai District Collector demanding that no permission be granted for the church construction and that the ongoing work be immediately halted.

“We Will Lay Siege To Theatres”, Thamimun Ansari Threatens To Stop Screening Of Kerala Story 2 Which Talks About Love Jihad

“We Will Lay Siege To Theatres”, Says MJK Gen Secy Thamimun Ansari

Opposition to the upcoming film The Kerala Story 2 has intensified in Tamil Nadu, with Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi (MJK) General Secretary MH Thamimun Ansari warning of large-scale protests if the movie is screened in the State.

The sequel to The Kerala Story, which had earlier triggered nationwide controversy, is currently in production and expected to release soon. Even before its release, political resistance has begun to build in Tamil Nadu.

In a strongly worded statement, Ansari said the film was not a genuine artistic work but a tool that could spread hatred against a particular community.

“The Kerala Story–2 is not a work of art; it is a tool that sows hatred against a specific community. Such films are deliberately created to disturb social harmony. If inciting riots is given the name of cinema, opposing it democratically becomes our duty,” he said.

He warned that if attempts are made to screen the film in Tamil Nadu, his party and allied groups would not remain passive.

“We will mobilise democratic forces and stage siege protests in front of theatres that screen this film. We will not allow anyone to spread toxic ideas in the peaceful land of Tamil Nadu,” Ansari said.

Ansari also issued an appeal to theatre owners, urging them to voluntarily refrain from screening the film in order to avoid law-and-order problems.

He claimed the movie contains scenes and dialogues that could harm communal harmony and public peace, and said theatre operators should act responsibly to prevent tensions.

Leaders like Ansari argue that films of this nature attempt to create hostility between religious communities under the cover of freedom of expression. When the first part of The Kerala Story was released, several shows in Tamil Nadu were reportedly cancelled following protests and low audience turnout. Political observers expect the sequel may face a similar situation.

“At Least 10,000 North Indians Arrive Daily, Each One Brings 1-2 Kilos Ganja”, Says DMK Minister TM Anbarasan

“At Least 10,000 North Indians Arrive Daily, Each One Brings 1-2 Kilos Ganja”, Says DMK Minister TM Anbarasan

DMK Minister TM Anbarasan on Thursday, 19 February 2026, alleged that the rise in ganja movement in the State was due to the failure of the previous AIADMK government to take timely action.

He made the remarks while addressing a DMK public meeting titled “Tamil Nadu Will Not Bow Down” held in Nanganallur, Chennai. The meeting was attended by MP Kanimozhi Somu and other party leaders.

Speaking at the event, Anbarasan claimed that some individuals arriving from northern states were involved in bringing ganja into Tamil Nadu, while asserting that the police were taking strong measures to curb the menace.

“Today, ganja is banned in our state. In many other states, ganja is not banned anywhere. Do you know how many people arrive in Chennai every day? From the northern states, at least 10,000 people arrive daily. Each one who arrives brings 1-2 kilos each. The moment they arrive; we alert the police and take whatever strict action is necessary. If action had been taken in the last 10 years, this problem would not have arisen,” he said.

In the same event, DMK MP Kanimozhi Somu also derogated North Indians. She said, “Today, if you look at our children, all of them have crossed the seas and gone beyond India and are in very prestigious positions. The main reason is only because we studied Tamil and English. Those who studied Hindi, if one has to say, ‘work itself is god’; I am not belittling anyone’s profession. But here, as was said earlier, about ten thousand people are coming every day from North India. What are they bringing and doing here? Either they are bringing ganja, or they are running pani puri shops and doing that kind of work. But our educated children cross the seas and become scientists, doctors, engineers, and even work in places like Google. That is how much we have progressed.”

“10,000 People Come Daily From North India, They Either Bring Ganja Or Run Panipuri Shops”, Says DMK MP Kanimozhi Somu

With the elections just a couple of months away in Tamil Nadu, a DMK public meeting titled “Tamil Nadu Will Not Bow Down” was held in Nanganallur, Chennai, and was attended by Minister TM Anbarasan, MP Kanimozhi Somu and other party leaders.

Speaking at the event, DMK MP Kanimozhi Somu said, “Today, if you look at our children, all of them have crossed the seas and gone beyond India and are in very prestigious positions.

BJP leader Annamalai shared the video and condemned it saying, “Despite innumerable attacks on migrant workers across Tamil Nadu, DMK’s ministers and MPs appear to have learnt absolutely nothing, except how to normalise their hate against migrant workers.

DMK MP Smt Kanimozhi Somu claims that 10,000 migrant workers educated in Hindi arrive in Tamil Nadu every day to sell “Ganja” and Pani Puri. Speaking before her on the same stage, DMK Minister Thiru T. M. Anbarasan echoed the very same narrative. This is not a slip of the tongue or an isolated remark; it is a pattern.

Such targeted, demeaning rhetoric against migrant workers has become routine under this corrupt DMK regime. By repeatedly stereotyping an entire section of people as criminals and petty offenders, DMK is actively legitimising social hostility and violence on the ground.”

“Kumaran Kundru Temple Demolished Due To Pressure From Communists, Idol Will Be Re-Established”: Hindu Munnani Hits Out Over Murugan Idol Removal

“Kumaran Kundru Temple Demolished Due To Pressure From Communists, Idol Will Be Re-Established”: Hindu Munnani Hits Out Over Murugan Idol Removal

In January 2026, there were protests in Rakkiyapatti village under Ettiveerampalayam panchayat in Avinashi taluk of Tiruppur district in January 2026 after a protest against the demolition of a Murugan temple allegedly built on encroached government land turned violent, leaving a Hindu Munnani functionary injured.

According to officials, the temple, locally known as Kumarankundru or Selvamuthu Kumarasamy Temple, had been constructed on about 2.8 acres of government poramboke land. The complex included shrines dedicated to Murugan, Vinayagar, a Sivalingam and Nandi.

The demolition was carried out by the Revenue Department under the leadership of Avinashi Tahsildar Chandrasekar, with heavy police deployment. More than 100 police personnel led by Avinashi Deputy Superintendent of Police Sivakumar were stationed at the site to maintain law and order during the encroachment removal.

Authorities maintained that the action was part of a land clearance drive. However, members of Hindu Munnani and local residents, including women, gathered at the site and raised slogans opposing the demolition, accusing officials of targeting a place of worship and demanding that the operation be halted.

During police attempts to disperse the crowd, heated arguments broke out, leading to pushing and scuffles between protesters and police personnel.

Addressing a press meet on 19 February 2026, Hindu Munnani chief Kadeswara Subramaniam alleged that the removed Murugan idol was more than a century old and that the action was taken under political pressure.

“In the Ettiveerampalayam Panchayat near Perumanallur in Tirupur district, there was a 100-year-old idol of Lord Murugan. That idol was located on a small hill known as Kumaran Kundru,” he said.

Subramanian claimed, “Some people from the Communist party, specifically the local MP, put pressure on the authorities, and on the orders of the Collector, that idol was removed overnight. This happened even though the local public tried to stop it.”

He further stated, “The Archaeological Research Department has stated in court that the idol is over 100 years old. There were orders from our rulers that a decision should be taken only after a court inquiry, yet they went ahead and removed it.”

Calling the State government “anti-Hindu,” Subramanian said devotees had approached the court and expressed confidence that the idol would be reinstalled.

“To face this legally, Murugan devotees have approached the court. Surely, an idol will be re-established there,” he said.

He added that a “massive non-violent struggle” had been launched in protest, involving the chanting of Kanda Sashti Kavasam and special worship.

“This is the first stage of the protest. If an immediate decision is not taken, it will reflect in the upcoming elections. This struggle will continue,” he said.

Subramanian urged the State government and the HR&CE Department to investigate the issue and restore the idol. He also announced that Kanda Sashti Kavasam would be sung across Tamil Nadu at 6 PM in solidarity.

Madras High Court Bars Use Of Caste Names In HR&CE Temple Festival Invitations

Madras High Court Fines HR&CE Commissioner ₹50,000 For Failing To File Oversight Report Of Temple-Run Schools kanchipuram

The Madras High Court has observed that temple festivals conducted by the State through the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department cannot be allowed to perpetuate caste, stressing that public authorities must work toward eliminating caste distinctions.

Justice Bharata Chakravarthy made the observations while hearing a plea seeking directions to prohibit the use of caste names in invitations for an upcoming temple festival.

“Caste is a thing, that exists only in the minds of the people. Article 14 of the Constitution of India, enshrines the principle of equality. The very purpose of India becoming a Republic is to treat everyone equally and the concept of caste is based only on birth and birth alone divides people. The endeavour of every authority in the country, should only be to annihilate caste and not to perpetuate the same. If the festival in which the Government Department namely, the HR and CE Department, is also involved, is conducted in a manner so as to propagate caste and prominently to advertise or take pride in one’s caste, the same cannot be permitted,” the court observed.

The court was hearing a petition filed by N. Samaran seeking directions to the Commissioner, HR&CE, the Joint Commissioner, and the Executive Officer of Arulmigu Kandhasamy Thirukovil to prohibit the use of caste names in festival invitations. The petitioner had also sought a direction that only persons authorised by the Executive Officer be permitted to participate as “Sri Padhamthangis” to carry the idol during the procession.

During the hearing, the State informed the court that the temple itself was not using caste names. However, it submitted that individuals’ caste names had been printed in the festival invitation. The State further told the court that since the invitations had already been printed for the current year, no immediate corrective directions could be implemented.

Taking note of the submission, the court directed that from the ensuing festival onwards, if any person adds their caste name along with their personal name, “the caste suffix alone should be dropped, and only the name shall be printed.”

The court also rejected the State’s request to leave the matter entirely to the temple authorities.

On the petitioner’s request regarding appointment of persons for carrying the idol, the court observed that such duties are usually performed by volunteers and managed on the spot by able-bodied devotees. The judge cautioned that framing detailed rules for temple processions could open a “Pandora’s box.”

Accordingly, the court declined to frame any Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the temple procession, leaving the on-ground management to the temple authorities.

The matter was disposed of with the above directions.

Madras High Court Orders FIR Against DMK Minister KN Nehru In Cash-For-Jobs Scam

ED Dossier Names TN Minister KN Nehru, Brothers and Aides in ₹35 Lakh Cash-for-Job Scam

The Madras High Court, on Friday 20 February 2026, has directed the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) to register a criminal case based on inputs from the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) alleging large-scale corruption in the Municipal Administration and Water Supply (MAWS) Department headed by Minister K.N. Nehru.

The direction was issued by a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G. Arul Murugan while hearing writ petitions seeking registration of an FIR in the alleged cash-for-jobs and transfer-posting scam. The Bench had earlier reserved orders after hearing detailed submissions from all sides.

Pulling up the State over the delay in acting on the ED’s communication, the court held that the material already on record disclosed cognisable offences warranting immediate registration of a case.

“The details shared and materials available reveal that those candidates got selected pursuant to the alleged transactions. And when a large-scale corruption stated to have happened involving several hundred crores of rupees, we find that source material is sufficient enough disclosing the commission of a cognisable offence for the purpose of registering a case,” the court observed.

The Bench noted that the ED had, on 27 October 2025, shared detailed source information with the State under Section 66(2) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), along with voluminous supporting material.

“It was for the State to register a case on the detailed information shared by the Enforcement Directorate…and they could have thereafter concluded a detailed investigation to unravel the truth and bring the culprits to book,” the court said.

Rejecting the State’s stand that a preliminary or detailed inquiry should precede FIR registration, the court clarified that the ED’s communication could not be treated as a mere complaint.

“It is not a case where the authorities have received a bare complaint…it is a detailed source information provided by the Enforcement Directorate with a voluminous set of evidence…disclosing a cognisable offence,” the Bench held.

Since the State had already entrusted the matter to the Vigilance Department, the court said it was appropriate for the DVAC to proceed and accordingly directed the agency to register a case based on the ED’s 27 October 2025 communication, conduct a detailed and expeditious investigation, and take further action in accordance with law. A copy of the detailed judgment is awaited.

Earlier Proceedings

During the earlier hearing, senior counsel NR Elango, appearing for the DVAC, had assured the court of a “proper and full-fledged inquiry” and stated that the agency had already commenced a “detailed inquiry” under the Vigilance Manual. He had argued that the materials shared by the writ petitioners could not be treated as fresh first information and that an FIR should await the outcome of the inquiry.

Senior counsel V. Raghavachari, appearing for AIADMK Rajya Sabha MP I.S. Inbadurai, had relied on Supreme Court precedents to contend that the DVAC was duty-bound to register an FIR once cognisable offences were disclosed.

ED Special Public Prosecutor N. Ramesh had told the court that the agency had shared not merely inputs but evidence running into 232 pages clearly demonstrating the commission of cognisable offences.

Advocate General PS Raman, however, had argued that the ED had gathered the materials during a search and seizure operation in April 2025 in connection with a bank fraud case and pointed out that a Division Bench had on 24 July 2025 quashed the Enforcement Case Information Report in that matter. He had submitted that the State had acted promptly by forwarding the ED’s communication to the DVAC, which had begun a detailed inquiry.

The Chief Justice had also expressed displeasure that the first writ petitioner, K. Athinarayanan, had not disclosed his antecedents despite facing multiple criminal cases, including one for attempt to murder.

Allegations by ED

According to the ED, its investigation uncovered digital material suggesting that bribes were allegedly collected in exchange for favourable transfers and postings of engineers and other officials in the MAWS Department. The agency is stated to have traced hundreds of transfer and posting orders from electronic devices seized from associates, with alleged bribes ranging from lakhs to crores per posting.

The ED also flagged alleged irregularities in the award of municipal contracts, claiming that kickbacks were collected as a percentage of contract values and that the proceeds were routed through a network of associates.

With the High Court’s direction, the DVAC is now required to formally register a case and proceed with a detailed probe into the allegations.

Annamalai Welcomes Decision

BJP leader Annamalai welcomed the decision. On his X handle, he wrote, “We welcome the order of the Hon’ble Madras High Court directing the registration of an FIR against Minister Thiru. K.N. Nehru in the ₹888 crore bribery case related to appointments in the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, which is under his portfolio. In October last year, the Enforcement Directorate had written to the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, the Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu, and the Tamil Nadu Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department, strongly urging them to register an FIR against Minister Thiru. K.N. Nehru in this ₹888 crore corruption case. Similarly, in December last year, the ED had again demanded the registration of a case against Minister Nehru, stating that approximately ₹1,020 crore in bribery and corruption had taken place in the awarding of contracts in the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department. In addition to this, in January this year, the Enforcement Directorate sent evidence for the third time, stating that ₹365.87 crore in bribery had occurred in the same department in exchange for providing job transfers. However, the DMK government has kept all three letters pending without taking any action for so many months. Even after the Enforcement Directorate sent letters with clear evidence, Chief Minister Thiru @mkstalin did not register a case against Minister Thiru. K.N. Nehru. What answer is he going to give now? If, under the DMK government, corruption amounting to approximately ₹2,300 crore has taken place in just one department in a single year, what is the state of Tamil Nadu? Is he going to claim that all these corrupt acts happened without the knowledge of Chief Minister Thiru @mkstalin?

Immediately, a case must be registered against Minister Thiru. K.N. Nehru in the ₹1,020 crore bribery case related to the awarding of work contracts that the Enforcement Directorate wrote about in December last year, as well as in the ₹365.87 crore job transfer bribery case. Otherwise, the people will inevitably conclude that all these corrupt acts took place with the full knowledge of Chief Minister Thiru @mkstalin.”
