A watershed moment for the BJP in Tamil Nadu

The Bhartiya Janata Party in Tamil Nadu under the leadership of Annamalai has made significant inroads in the state.  They have launched a strong battle against the lies peddled by Dravidian parties and the image created about Prime Minister Modi among the Tamil people.

Annamalai’s educational credentials with his former tenure as IPS officer has attracted different strata of people. His articulatory ability with the non-corrupt image has drawn numerous youngsters to the party.

His victory began with the reopening of temples which were shut by the state government citing covid regulatory norms. One large protest in Chennai made the HRCE minister to issue orders in opening the temples within few days.

The BJP has begun getting a grip of the Tamil Nadu mainstream news media primarily because of the party President’s no-nonsense approach in the press meets. His pointed rebuttals and the ability to throw counter questions posed with facts has jittered the journalists friendly to the ruling DMK.

Strengthening the social media team has helped the party to stall deceptions created by the biased media houses, journalists and paid influencers. The party went a step ahead in legally assisting Shibin, non-party member who was falsely framed for posting content against ruling state government in social media. They had also lent support to other voices of dissent like Maridhas.

Choosing the path of peaceful protest across the state and approaching the courts in ordering CBI investigation for the unnatural death of Lavanya has proved leadership the ability of Annamalai.

The party’s decision to contest independently in the urban local body elections has excited the entire state unit with many youngsters and deserved candidates in the fray. Party members have now been given an opportunity to take the Modi Government’s schemes door-to-door and also expose the fallacies of the DMK government.

Relentless campaign by party members across the state, arousing reception by people and opportunity for thousands of youngsters aspiring to become clean political leaders will be landmark in the history of Tamil Nadu.

A substantial improvement in vote share is predicted. This urban body election would signal the arrival of a new BJP and would be an important breakthrough for the party in Tamil Nadu.

TN urban local body polls: Irregularities reported in multiple places; DMK allegedly giving cash, hotbox and anklets to voters

Elections to the urban local bodies are being held after a gap of 10 years with voters queueing from morning 7 AM to cast their votes.

While the DMK and its allies are mostly contesting together, the Opposition parties like AIADMK, BJP and PMK are fighting it alone. Other parties like the NTK and MNM too are contesting.

The DMK has been facing mild anti-incumbency within 8 months of coming to power. The way the Stalin-led DMK government had handled the floods in November-December last year, the poor quality pongal gifts and the non-fulfilment of promises like waiving of jewel loan, etc has caused dissatisfaction among the public.

In an attempt to quell the anti-incumbency, the DMK is leaving no stone unturned to grab a majority of wards seats in all the corporations.

In light of this, irregularities have been reported in multiple polling booths across the state.

The DMK candidate of Suleswaranpatti near Pollachi in Coimbatore district allegedly tried distributing ₹1000 cash along with hotbox and anklets to voters.

In another locality in Coimbatore, DMK Minister Senthilbalaji’s men were reportedly distributing cash just a few metere away from the polling booth. According to Kavitha Rajan who is contesting as BJP candidate for Ward 63 of Coimbatore Corporation, DMK men were found distributing cash and hotbox to voters who can be seen standing in queue.

The BJP cadres had locked the doors from outside in order to report it to the officials. However, in a video shared by Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan, police officers can be seen opening the doors without taking the DMK men into custody.

Voting in Ward 12 of Sivakasi Municipality was suspended for 4 hours which the BJP claim was done at the behest of the DMK due to fear of defeat.

In another incident, DMK cadres in Ward 99 of Pollachi were found erecting desks just adjacent to the polling booth.

There have also been reports of the AIADMK distributing 500 per vote in many wards across Chennai and Coimbatore.

“Poonool/janeu will be banned when Thiruma becomes CM”: DMK-ally VCK leader warns

The Deputy General Secretary of Thol. Thirumavalavan’s Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Vanni Arasu, has let out a statement about VCK’s motive to destroy Hinduism in Tamil Nadu, as soon as it comes to power.

He has said, “Tamil Nadu is going to see the period where VCK will rule the state. Tamil Nadu is eagerly waiting for the time where Thirumavalavan will become the Chief Minister. When he becomes the leader, a rule will be brought to ban the wearing of ‘Poonool’ (sacred thread/ janeu). That is the first step that will be taken to destroy Sanathan Dharma.”

Vanni Arasu is a controversial VCK leader who has been accused of illegally contesting from a constituency reserved for Hindu Scheduled Caste despite being a Christian.

https://twitter.com/VanniArasu_VCK/status/1456141667493240832

It is to be noted that VCK is a key ally of the DMK and Congress in Tamil Nadu. A few months ago, Tamil Nadu Congress leader Alagiri also tweeted against Sanathan Dharma, saying, “Sanatana Dharma justifies the inequalities in society. It is an interjection to Hinduism. No civilised society has accepted this. This is Congress’ policy. I’m glad that Raja is helping this opinion reach everybody.” The tweet was the deleted from the leader’s Twitter account.

Recently, VCK chief and Chidambaram MP Thol. Thirumavalavan spewed vitriol against the Hindu faith posting a scandalous picture that insults the Trishul, the holy weapon associated with Hinduism.

Earlier, Thirumavalavan called Sanatan Dharma as worse than the menace of alcohol and that the ancient epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata remain the root cause of all violence in the world.

Pakistan to return $3 billion to Saudi Arabia with interest as its economy further plunges

Pakistan has suffered another economic reversal when Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin told the Senate that the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) worth 3 billion dollars which was placed in the State bank of Pakistan in October 2021 will now have to be returned.

Saudi Arabia has now asked that the money that was borrowed in 2021 to improve Pakistan’s dwindling foreign exchange reserves has to be returned.

Saudi Arabia had given financial support to Pakistan that included $3 billion in deposits and $1.2 billion to $1.5 billion worth of oil supplies on deferred payments and one of the commitments asked by the Saudis was Pakistan will return the $3 billion within a year.

However, what is even more interesting is that the loan carried interest of four per cent which would have to be paid every three months.

Tarin said, “Interest rates are rising across the world. The interest rate for the Saudi loan being four per cent is not something bad.”The Saudi government has told us that they can ask for their money back if Pakistan defaults at any point,”.

The finance minister also added that there was no question of default and Pakistan would start getting crude oil from Saudi Arabia on deferred payments from March.

Karnataka: Student prohibited from entering class in Vijayapura college for adorning Kumkum on forehead

The case against the ban of hijab in educational institutions is still pending in the Karnataka High Court . The court has ordered that students should not come to class wearing religiously identifiable clothing and jewellery until the end of the case.

For the past two day, students who have been coming to class with hijab are being insisted to adhere to the uniform code and ensure tranquility in the academic campuses.

In this situation, a student was prohibited from entering his class as he wore Kumkum (sindoor) in his forehead, in Vijayapura. The Hindu student was then sent out of the institute, and was asked to remove the Kumkum that he had adorned on his forehead to be allowed to enter.

In response, the student has argued by saying that he has been coming to class with a Kumkum on his forehead for a long time now, and asked why the teachers were stopping him suddenly. However, the insitution’s management has allegedly said that it is a religious identity, and therefore the student will not be let in until he lets go of the identity inside campus. The student was then forced to remove the Kumkum on his forehead in order to attend classes.

ABVP demands release of its activists who have been detained by TN police

The BJP’s student wing, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has demanded the release of its activists who were arrested when they protested in front of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin’s residence seeking justice for Lavanya.

The ABVP has taken a vow to continue the fight for justice for Lavanya who was mistreated and tortured by church officials who ran the school where she was one of the top students.

When the protest broke out, the Tamil Nadu Police had arrested several ABVP functionaries, including its national secretary Nidhi Tripathi, for organising a protest without permission in front of the chief minister’s residence which has been deemed as a security breach.

The ABVP on Thursday (February 17) held a press conference in Delhi over the Lavanya case and demanded ‘the Tamil Nadu government release Tripathi and other activists who were arrested when they were holding a peaceful demonstration.

The case of Lavanya has caught national attention after it emerged that she was brutalised at the Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School and a nun who allegedly tried to coerce her to convert to Christianity that led to her consuming poison on January 19.

ABVP’s National Media Convenor Sidharth Yadav said, ‘The arrest of activists who were protesting in Tamil Nadu is completely wrong and against the rules, which we strongly criticize. We will continue our fight till Lavanya gets justice and if the government does not release our workers at the earliest, we will take to the streets of Delhi and block roads. We will take Lavanya’s voice to every student and will also gherao the house of DMK MPs in Delhi if needed. The Tamil Nadu government is oppressing the students by conspiring but we are ready to face them strongly,”.
