A Strong Resurgent India Has A Problem Of Walking On Eggshells To Balance Its Geopolitical Interests

India finds itself in a delicate position, in seeking to balance its geopolitical alliances on the global stage. Sustaining a balance where its economic, financial and military needs are met along with ensuring that its growing clout in the Asian region is recognized by the world, is a challenge for a confident, strong, resurgent India. Striking this type of a healthy, sustainable balance has become somewhat tricky with new geopolitical realities, especially where China is concerned. While India has tried to remain neutral to China’s issues on both domestic and foreign matters, the communist-led People’s Republic of China has always felt threatened by the size and potential of India, often displaying openly aggressive behavior and engaging in anti-India rhetoric/actions, both in the Asian region as well as globally.

China’s economic growth since the 1980s has not been a healthy one.The rapid but lop sided growth has not covered all areas of economic, social and environmental importance but rather overly focused on building and operating a massive manufacturing-heavy infrastructure by taking undue advantage of a poorly paid labour force, operating on government-dictated terms and conditions, as is often the case with communist, dictatorial regimes.

Its one-sided Communist driven policies and economic “progress” has come at a huge cost to most other economic indices, indicative of a balanced, sustainable growth – population growth, health infrastructure, quality of education, organic market-based growth of the non-manufacturing sector, indigenous science and technology without state interference or stolen IP (intellectual property) of the West, its environment and acceptable levels of pollution, fast depletion of natural resources on account of excessive, unsustainable usage, deep mining and extraction etc. China made its trillions by agreeing to become the world’s cheapest manufacturer of goods at a huge expense to all human and environmental factors.

Yet its economic growth, as imbalanced as it is in terms of long term impact on all human and environmental factors, has given the Chinese State an important advantage that most other nations do not have – large cash reserves and credit worthy notes/bonds, that put the country’s Communist Party in a position to lobby hard in the Eastern as well as the Western hemispheres – all political, economic, social, educational, military, environmental initiatives and policy making, that can be influenced and “bought” by the lure of money, sponsorships and aid of any kind, in most parts of the world …have been analysed by China, lobbied for and put to good use in its own favour, by the cash and credit-rich Chinese government.

Hence, China’s advantage and financial influence in the recent re-alignment of geopolitical alliances that have taken many by surprise. Arch enemies, ideological foes, former world powers, dictatorships, military-run states, monarchies, democracies, communist states, religious, non-religious as well as secular states have all been brought together (or are in the process of being brought in) by China’s financial aid and influence, in what could end up being a different world order than that of the last century.

China’s intent in putting its cash/ credit line to work, appears to be a new, non-USA, non-Europe centric world order, in which China is the epicenter of global negotiations, alliances and military might, with the assistance of the member states of such a new re-aligned geopolitical order.

Against this background, it is worrisome but not surprising that China has managed to bring together sworn religious and political enemies, Saudi Arabia (centre of Sunni Islam) and Iran, (Centre of Shia Islam). In its list of recruited members, observers or partners, one finds countries following diverse philosophies of religion, administration, economic policy, military strategy, foreign relations and domestic social order.

In its desperation to shift the world’s focus away from a U.S and Europe centric leadership and strategic thought, China is trying to build a new global social order with itself as the fulcrum of all strategy in all areas of leadership and development. Will it succeed or will the hastily “bought” and put together relationships in spite of the vast differences between member nations, shine brightly in the short term only to fizzle out in the longer term?

Chinese diplomacy and without a doubt, possible economic or military deals/ support, seem to have worked, ahead of Saudi Arabia’s recent announcement of its decision to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as a dialogue partner. The Islamic Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s historical foe and nemesis, the Islamic Republic of Iran, became a member state last year and now, Riyadh’s decision to join the China-led bloc, has come just weeks after a Chinese-brokered deal to resume Iran-Saudi diplomatic ties. Some political, economic and security analysts insist that the SCO has both China and Russia at its forefront. Saudi’s decision to join the SCO is a significant diplomatic win for China, considering Saudi’s historically solid relationship with the U.S, the U.K and the West.

China has cleverly managed to bring two important enemy states in the Middle East, closer to a China and Russia coalition, as it continues in its mission of bringing various regional powers closer to its envisioned bloc of economic, financial and military cooperation under the aegis of an intergovernmental organization founded in Shanghai in 2001, named the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an inter-governmental organization founded in Shanghai on 15 June 2001. Until recently, the SCO currently comprised eight “Member” states (China,
Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan), four “Observer” states with an interest in acceding to full membership (Iran, Belarus, Mongolia, Afghanistan) and six “Dialogue Partners” (Nepal, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Cambodia, Armenia, Azerbaijan). In 2022, Iran’s status was upgraded from Observer state to Member state. Egypt, Qatar and of late, Saudi Arabia are Dialogue partners of the SCO.

Since its creation in 2001, the SCO has focused on regional security issues, regional terrorism, ethnic separatism and religious extremism. The SCO’s priorities also include regional development. The bloc/ organization’s success with its areas of focus, is questionable with China’s own record on human rights, its support of Islamist states like Pakistan and Afghanistan, its own aggressive stand on border disputes and its expansionist ambitions.

The SCO has been an observer in the UN General Assembly since 2005. The SCO’s significance and clout can be gauged by its growing importance and participation in UN related decision making processes. In April 2010, the UN and SCO Secretariats signed a Joint Declaration on Cooperation. The SCO Secretariat has also established partnerships with various UN organizations like the UNESCO and several others.

China is clearly trying to fill the gap left by the erstwhile U.S.S.R/Soviet Union, a worthy and mighty opponent to the Western powers led by the U.S, in the post World War II era. The U.S.S.R’s collapse in 1991 led to the domination of the U.S, in world affairs. China is not only trying to fill a gap but is actively engaged in bringing about a new world order, where the U.S is not the principal consultant and advisor on world affairs, economic policy, financial regulations, security matters and world peace.

While China without explicitly saying so, wants a unilateral world with itself as both king and king-maker with a China-centric agenda, India has always been comfortable with a multilateral world order in which, balance of power is maintained by checks and balances put in place by a common charter of all member states. Now, with the shifting fault lines of global alliances, India must continue to achieve a strategic balance between its participation in both world orders. It must “diversify its portfolio” to weather potential economic and defence related issues, by engaging with both sides of the order and ensuring that its participation is respected and appreciated. A nation like India with its Dharmic roots and Hinduism/ Indic religions forming the core of its unique culture and heritage must be wary of an organization like the SCO, whose members include communists on the one hand and Islamist states on the other.

A strong, bold, nationalistic, India-centric government at the Centre with the right foreign policy, engaging in highly skilled diplomacy that strives to walk the space between both world orders, would be the key to India’s continued success story.

DMK IT Wing And Alleged “Fact-Checkers” Spread Half-Truths About Nanganallur HR&CE Temple To Buttress DMK Govt

To save face and abdicate responsibility for the mishap that happened in the Nanganallur temple in which five people drowned in a public tank, DMK leaders and its supporters in the guise of alleged fact checkers spread fake news that the temple is not under HR&CE.

In a tragic incident, five youngsters aged 18 to 22 drowned while performing rituals as part of a festival inside a temple tank. According to the preliminary police investigation, it is believed that one of them drowned in the tank and the other four went in to save him, but they too drowned.

The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday (April 5, 2023) at the Dharmalingeshwarar Temple in Nanganallur, Chennai, on the occasion of the Theerthavari festival during the Tamil month of Panguni. Around twenty youngsters were inside the temple tank to perform the ritual, and five of them drowned.

Edapaddi K. Palaniswami, on his Twitter handle, blamed the Hindu Religious And Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department for their complacency and negligence, saying, “I am deeply saddened to learn that five priests drowned during the Theerthavari ceremony at the Dharmalingeswarar temple in Nanganallur, Chennai. Due to the HR&CE department’s negligence and complacency, such mishaps continue to occur in temple events. It is even more unfortunate that all five priests who died were between the ages of 15 and 25. I urge this government to take all necessary precautions to ensure that such incidents do not occur again.”

In response to the allegations of Opposition Leader Edappadi Palanisamy, DMK leaders and alleged fact checkers who come across as DMK mouthpieces have been spreading fake news that the temple where the tragic incident occurred does not belong to HR&CE and thus the government cannot be blamed. They posted screenshots of some random temple website with a similar name to the Nanganallur temple and claimed that the temple was administered by a private trust and thus the temple was not under HR&CE’s control.

Spreading the fake news that the temple does not belong to HR&CE, DMK IT Wing on its official handle said, “Palaniswami has politicized a tragic incident that occurred in a privately owned temple. Palaniswami has simply copied what someone else has written without making any effort to determine what is true.”

DMK deputy secretary Isai called Edappadi Palaniswami a liar and said, “This irresponsible person who is trying to spread false information and create religious riots should be arrested immediately.”

Another Dravidian Stockist, Iyan Karthikeyan, who claims to be a fact checker, spread fake news by saying, “This is not an HR&CE temple, but a private trust! Why condemn the HR&CE? How are they complacent?”

However, netizens were quick to access the HR&CE website and show that the Nanganaullur temple, where the tragic incident occurred, falls under the purview of HR&CE. Dharmalingeshwarar Temple in Nanganallur was listed as part of HR&CE with the ID TM000377 on the HR&CE website.

Realizing the fallacy in his tweet, the Dravidian Stockist and self-styled fact-checker put a tweet in which he said that the temple is privately owned but the HR&CE department is trying to take over owing to irregularities in administration.

“EO was appointed. But temple side did not accept and has started a case at the court. So, the officer has not yet taken over and hence the temple has not come under state control.”, he claimed.

In response to the allegations, HR&CE Minister Sekhar Babu stated, “The pool where the Theerthavari was held was not a temple pond; it was a pond managed by the Panchayat. The Chief Minister chastised me for conducting Theerthawari in the temple without first cleaning the pond.”

Now, questions are being raised that if the pond came under the panchayat, why didn’t the local body take up desilting work.

Home Ministry: Complaints Received Against NGO That Instigated Sterlite Protest, Action May Be Taken

On Wednesday, the Central government informed Parliament that it had received some complaints about ‘The Other Media’, a non-governmental organization that organized protests and demonstrations that led to the closure of the Vedanta-owned Sterlite copper plant in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi in 2018.

Back in 2020, The Commune had reported on the nature and funding of The Other Media. The key persons who were instrumental in instigating the Sterlite Protest have been reported in this article.

The Other Media (TOM) is an FCRA-NGO with the registration number DL 231660085. Nityanand Jayaraman, a self-proclaimed environmental activist is the Chairperson or Chief Functionary of TOM.

TOM has received funding from questionable entities like World Association For Christian Communication, Canada, Christian Conference of AsiaCatholic Organization for Relief and Development Aid (CORDAID) of Netherlands and Trócaire, the official overseas development agency of Catholic Church in Ireland.

TOM has also received funds from Bread for the World (BfW), a “globally active development and relief agency of the Protestant Churches in Germany”.

While TOM’s account statements (Form FC-6) mention the nature of association to be “educational, social”, all their donations have been marked under “Activities other than those mentioned”.

Now, the NGO could lose its Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) license if any violations are discovered, the Home Ministry claimed after asking for clarifications from the organization.

Nityanand Rai, the Union Minister of State (MoS) for home affairs, responded in writing to a question posed by Congress MP Naranbhai J. Rathwa in the Rajya Sabha, stating that “some representations/complaints alleging violation of the provision(s) of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 (FCRA, 2010) by the association “The Other Media, New Delhi” have been received by the Ministry. Additionally, field agency inputs have also been received.”

In May 2018, Vedanta’s Sterlite copper smelting plant in Thoothukudi was shut down as a result of widespread protests in which 13 people were killed by police shooting on the 100th day of a demonstration. The protesters called for the permanent closure of the Vedanta Copper Plant on the grounds that it seriously polluted the environment.

Congress MP Naranbhai J Rathwa inquired whether the ministry had received complaints about ‘The Other Media’ misusing funds to organize protests and demonstrations around Vedanta’s Sterlite Copper Plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, the details of funds received by it, and whether any action would be taken against the organization.

In his response, the MoS stated that when FCRA violations are reported, a standard questionnaire is issued to the association seeking detailed information, and the same is examined in terms of the provisions of the FCRA, 2010 and rules made thereunder.

The MoS further said, “In case violations of provisions of the FCRA, 2010 are found, the certificate of FCRA registration of the association may be canceled under section 14 of the Act.”

According to the minister, the organization received a foreign contribution of ₹3.54 crores from 2019-20 to 2021-22, of which ₹2.79 crores was used.

Loyola And Don Bosco Mgmt Accused Of Siphoning Off Funds, Caste Discrimination Alleged In Loyola College Campus

Lawrence D’Cruz, a former Dalit Christian employee of Loyola College has accused the institution and principal Father Thomas Amirtham of misappropriation of funds, caste discrimination, and untouchability. He also alleged that Chennai’s famous Don Bosco School’s Principal Father Anand Raj has been indulging in misappropriation of funds.

The Commune had covered in detail about the alleged caste discrimination meted out to Lawrence D’Cruz who was terminated by the Loyola manaagement.

Now, Lawrence D’Cruz in an interview to Thamarai TV has said, “The incident occurred at Perambur Don Bosco School two years ago. Under the guise of providing free education to Tamil medium students, the school’s principal, Brother Anand, doubled the fees for English medium students. However, on record, he only showed the fees before the hike, and he illegally amassed ₹1.5 crore. Don Bosco’s alumni association committee, which has been dominated by the same set of people for the past 15 years, is also involved in the crime. People from the association, in particular David Selvam, David, Panneerselvan, and, most importantly, Vincent, are more involved in this corruption. We initially assumed that the money had been misappropriated by the Alumni Association, but we later learned that Principal Anand Raj was involved.”

Earlier in June 2021, former Students of the Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Egmore took to social media and expressed unrestrained anger against election fraud and gross mismanagement in their Past Pupils Association.

Several former students took to social media and called out all the irregularities in the association.

They have even formed an online group in Facebook to specifically address this issue

Lawrence added, “When we brought this to the attention of Father Jose, Provincial of Salesian Society (a Roman Catholic congregation similar to the Jesuits and others), the principal Anand was transferred to another Don Bosco school near Karnataka as a punishment post.”

He further said, “Following the removal of the old team, the new team was formed, which included Father Stephan and Father Antony Raj, who was appointed as the Principal and Correspondent of Don Bosco in Perambur. Initially, they agreed to our suggestions for cleaning up the system, such as the formation of a core committee and others. However, when the core committee was formed, my name was not included, despite the fact that I am eligible and have a sufficient number of supporters. Later, the Principal and Father Stephan informed me that my name was not included due to pressure from Loyola College principal Father Thomas Amritham, as I had filed complaints with the generals of the Salesian and Jesuit orders about the management. Father Thomas Amirtham, the principal of Loyola, is a fraudster, as is Father Anand Raj, the principal of Don Bosco. As a result, they banded together. Father Thomas Amirtham was against me because I exposed his corruption as Principal of Loyola College while working as his personal assistant for ten years.”

He stated, “Father Thomas Amirtham looted money by getting money/donations for admissions to Loyola Arts and Science College despite telling management that he would not be collecting money for admissions that year. When I told Father Thomas Amirtham that what he was doing was wrong, he abused me by referring to my caste and claiming that those who belong to that caste will have this attitude. Even when people convert to Christianity, they bring their caste hegemony with them. Despite the fact that I was a Christian, he abused me as he belonged to a higher caste. When this happened, I filed a complaint with the General of the Jesuits (a religious order) in the Vatican. Upon knowing about my complaint, they threatened me to withdraw my complaints.”

He also stated that he is not the only Dalit who has been affected and that a total of 25 Dalits have been forced to resign from their jobs by Correspondent Father Selvanayagam and Father Thomas Amirtham who belonged to a dominant caste, demonstrating the caste hegemony of Fathers in Christianity. The 25 Dalits, some of whom were professors, were assigned the task of cleaning toilets. When the Dalits revolted, Father Thomas Amirtham and Father Selvanayagam forced them to resign based on false charges. He went on to say that he has video evidence of Dalit employees, including some professors, being forced to clean toilets. They also made them work 10 to 12 hours a day when other staff members only worked 8 hours. I complained to several authorities, including the district collector, but no action was taken, and I was threatened to drop my complaints.

He stated, “When I spoke up for the 25 Dalits who were fired from their jobs, they falsely accused me of sexual harassment. A member of a committee formed to investigate the complaint informed me that the committee was formed with the intent of terminating my job. They later fired me as well.”

He also stated that government officials and police officers, particularly those from the Nungambakkam police station, who acted as if they are on the payroll of Loyola College, threatened him not to pursue legal action against the college.

He further added, “Rector Father Francis Rector, who is in charge of the Loyola College campus, called and told me that there will be no support from their side as I have approached the Vatican directly. He said nothing about our complaint that 25 Dalits were forced to resign. There are also allegations that Father Francis Rector misappropriated UGC funds by purchasing used machines instead of new machines. This was stated in his book by Father Albert Muthumalai, who was appointed as Loyola’s principal twice because of his honesty. However, Jesuit Congregation did not take any action.”

He added, “Several churches, particularly in rural areas, practice caste discrimination and untouchability. They do not allow people of lower castes to enter the church, forcing them to sit in the last row, do not allow dead bodies to be cremated in the cemetery, have two ambulances for Dalits and other castes, and many other things. I have endured all this. This discrimination against Dalits is not limited to Loyola professors, but also to Dalit students who were forced to do cleaning work.

How Western Campuses Are Becoming Undemocratic And Unsafe For Hindu-Indians

The blatant Hindumisia in western campuses continue to discriminate against Indian-Hindu students based on their belief and place of origin. On April 2, Karan Kataria, an Indian-origin student from London School of Economics (LSE) Law School, exposed Hindumisia and anti-India rhetoric prevalent on the LSE campus.

He stated that he was disqualified from contesting elections for the LSE Student Union after a smear campaign was launched against him. He claimed that some individuals could not bear to see an Indian-Hindu leading the LSESU and resorted to vilifying his character and identity. Despite receiving immense support from students of all nationalities, he was disqualified from the General Secretary election of the LSE Student Union based on false allegations ranging from being homophobic, Islamophobic, queerphobic, and Hindu Nationalist.

He further claimed that multiple complaints were lodged against him, but instead of identifying and punishing the wrongdoers who initiated this hateful campaign, the LSESU cancelled his candidature undemocratically without providing any proof or evidence of the allegations against him. Furthermore, on the last polling day, Indian students were bullied and targeted for their national and Hindu religious identities, and the LSESU brushed aside the issue.

It is relevant to note that Karan Kataria comes from a middle-class farmer’s family in the state of Haryana and is a first-generation university-level graduate in his family. On April 3, LSE student Tejashwani Shakar, a friend of Karan Kataria, revealed how she has also been targeted based on her religious identity at LSE.

The Hidden ‘Hand’ Behind The Tirade

Despite receiving immense support from students of all nationalities, a  concerted smear campaign has been unleashed against Karan Kataria calling him a homophobic, Islamophobic, queerphobic, and Hindu Nationalist.

According to reports, Mukulika Banerjee, a professor of Anthropology at the London School of Economics could be powering this hate campaign against Karan Kataria. She is a close associate of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Mukulika Banerjee reportedly went out of her way to slander and demonize Karan Kataria for having connections with the RSS. She allegedly sent messages to her students on WhatsApp, asking them to reject Karan Kataria’s candidature. A malicious organized campaign was launched against Karan Kataria on almost all social media platforms, including internal fora of the LSE.

Mukulika Banerjee is a radical leftist who is known for her Modi-baiting and has authored an article in the Sunday Times, titled, ‘Modi parades his hatred of Muslims and makes a mockery of India’s constitution’.

She is very influential in the academic circles in London and has been peddling the Left-Liberal, anti-Hindu propaganda through her courses, teaching, and writings.

She is a supporter of Rahul Gandhi and had joined his Bharat Jodo Yatra walking alongside him. She even wrote a piece hailing Rahul Gandhi in The Guardian. She had moderated Rahul Gandhi’s House of Commons event in London where he made the “Indian democracy is in danger” speech and also hosted Rahul Gandhi at London School of Economics in 2018.

She even defended Rahul Gandhi and the Bharat Jodo Yatra on Pakistan’s Dawn News channel.

Is it fair to target a student for being a Hindu and pro-India? Isn’t the cancelling of a student for his Hindu and Indian identity undemocratic?

Why The Constant Hate Against Hindus?

What happened to Karan Kataria is not a one-off incident but a recuring pattern which has been haunting Indian students of the basis of a particular faith or belief. Apart from the visible hands of anti-India lobbies, this hatred is also being fuelled as a reaction against growing clout of Indian community abroad. The incident also coincides with rising Hindumisia in Western countries putting the so called liberal-modern nations to shame. Although the preceding circumstance appears to be unrelated, its origins go deep inside the sphere of worldwide anti-Hindu propaganda.

Priyamvada Gopal, Professor of Postcolonial Studies at the University of Cambridge, had urged the US government to block the naturalization of Hindus and cancel the H-1B visas of all Hindus in response to Citizenship Amendment Act 2019.

The University of California Irvine (UCI) had turned down a $ 3-million grant it received for Hinduism and Indian studies after protests from students and scholars.

America’s top-tier 40 universities such, as Columbia University, Harvard University, New York University, Rutgers University, and Princeton University, among others, sponsored the ‘Dismantling Global Hindutva Conference’ which openly spread Hinduphobia among the American academia.

There are some strands in the air which are hard for a prudent person to not notice. Under Modi’s leadership, Hinduism’s great history and culture are being revitalised. Hindu youngsters are now enjoying the splendour and grandeur of our culture and recognising that it is unique; this instils a sense of pride in Hindus. The inaccurate British-centric history, as well as the humiliating history of India, which was constructed over decades by our own liberals and intellectuals’ community, is finally being undone.

It is now being revealed that this was an ‘Ideological Subversion,’ which has been manufactured over a thousand years by vested interests which despise the rise of people of this land. Knowing their scientifically established cultural and traditional heritage, as well as their beautiful past, India’s young are inadvertently converging towards a single identity as Hindus. This infuriates the anti-Hindu powers, particularly Muslims, Liberals, and Christians, who subsequently attempt to slander Hindus and Hinduism via different channels. They would put aside their personal differences and get together to fight the Hindus and the incident in LSE is reflects exactly that.

For example, recently, Germany and the United States have recently raised the matter of Rahul Gandhi’s exclusion from the Indian parliament, but they have never addressed the ill-treatment of Hindus in England. England is also frequently seen discussing alleged Muslim persecution in India. Would these countries ever have the fortitude to speak out against the maltreatment of dark-skinned people in other countries and Hindus in British universities? Can the screams of these distressed Hindu students be heard by Western human rights experts or their blind Indian followers?

UK: A Cradle Of Anti-Hindu Hate Crime

Being a cradle of modern Universities with vast number of Indian students, the situation is particularly grim in UK. The UK has seen a rise in hate crimes against the Hindu community, which has been attributed to the growth of Islamic radicalisation and the pursuit of appeasement politics by the political establishment. The number of hate crimes against Hindus has increased by almost 200% between 2017-18 and 2020-21, as per data from the UK Home Office. These crimes include racial abuse, violent attacks and vandalism of temples and properties. The trend of Hindu phobia has further increased during the farm laws and CAA agitation in India, with Muslim and other adversaries attacking Hindus over issues central to their culture. Reports suggest that Hindu phobia reflects the deep-seated fear and hatred of Islamists towards the Hindu civilization, and this has contributed to a 9% rise in religious hate crimes in the UK in the last year.

Time To Acknowledge And Stand Up Against The Hate

What happened to Karan Kataria is similar to Rashmi Samant’s case, in which she claimed in 2021 that she was forced to quit as Oxford University’s students’ union president due to her religious convictions, sparking an outcry about “Hinduphobia” on campus. Rashmi also comments on the newest event, saying, “When I was harassed, abused, and ridiculed for being born in Hinduism and belonging to the background… I believed that all of this should not happen in any other scenario.” Yet Karan’s narrative and experience are heartbreaking once again.”

But little do the media or anyone reports that these incidents are part of a larger scheme to slander Hindus and it seeks of the pattern of violence against Hindus. I feel the need to not indulge in listing out the incidents of violence against Hindus in Western nations but it seems pertinent to point out that there is a larger conspiracy at play which want to unleash the hatred on the community.  Whether it is conferences like ‘Dismantling Global Hindutva’ or LSE elections, these perpetrators do not rests or ponder on their actions and neither shall Hindus rest on face of this cruel onslaught on their faith and belief.

Every Indian believes that with such occurrences making the rounds on a regular basis, India’s foreign affairs ministry should intervene. This will strengthen non-resident Indians’ conviction that the Indian Government is on their side. Anti-Hindu groups on foreign land should ponder before persecuting Hindus, if this is to be done, the Indian government should oppose the notion of ‘Dismantling Global Hindutva’ publicly through its diplomatic channels. This in and of itself would pave the path for the ‘Unapologetic Hindu’ movement defending Hindu interests abroad. If such ideas are fostered and supported, the day when Hindu students study without fear in Western nations would not be far off.

Dravidoids Use Kalakshetra Matter To Spew Hatred Against Brahmins, None Of The Accused Are Brahmins

Following a complaint from one of his former students, Hari Padman, a Kalakshetra alumnus and teacher at the institute since 2002, was arrested on Monday, April 3, on charges of alleged sexual harassment and criminal intimidation. Hari Padman was apprehended from Madhavaram, north Chennai, and was placed in judicial custody until April 13.

The Kalakshetra Foundation’s board of directors has formed an independent inquiry committee to look into allegations of sexual harassment leveled against several teachers. In addition to suspending Padman pending the outcome of the investigation, the board has decided to terminate the services of three other teaching faculty members: Sanjith Lal, Sai Krishnan, and Sreenath.

While the harassment of students studying in Kalakshetra appears to be true based on complaints and protests from several students, the theory of some critics of the government that the ruling DMK government is using the issue to divert attention away from the backlash it is facing in the Balveendar Singh case cannot be ruled out. According to political commentators, the DMK government purposefully delayed an investigation into the Kalakshetra students’ complaint in order to intensify the protest and divert attention away from the Ambasamudram custodial torture case.

Despite the fact that none of the accused in the case are Brahmins, the left ecosystem and the Dravidian Stockists have used this issue to unleash hatred on Brahmins by spreading a lie via their social media handles that all accused in the case are Brahmins. Hari Padman, the main accused in the case, is from Kerala and belongs to the Pillai community. In fact, none of the accused are Brahmins. Many Twitter handles claiming to be Dravidian Stockists spewed venom at Brahmins, knowing that no action would be taken against them because the state has a friendly government in place.

According to a stockist named Robert Ruben, reading the names of the accused in the case (Hari Padman, Sanjith Lal, Sai Krishnan, and Sri Nath) gives him the impression that all of the accused are Noolibans Sanghi (Tamil Brahmins). Noolibans is a name given to Brahmins by Dravidian Stockists that refers to the Janeu or sacred thread (Nool) and combines it with Talibans (Nool + Talibans = Noolibans).

According to another stockist Shafeeq, the sexual offenders in the case are Brahmins.

Another stockist, @Mark2Kali, named the accused and referred to them as Brahmin thugs involved in sexual harassment.

Another stockist, Panacea, inquired whether there are any slokas that prevent Brahmin women (referred to as Maami in the tweet) from speaking up if the rapist or Fuc**kers are Brahmins.

Many such instances have been compiled by actress Kasthuri Shankar in her Twitter.

The medium of propaganda used by Dravidian Stockists to fabricate a lie that the accused in the case are Brahmins is not limited to social media, but also YouTube Channels with large followings. A sex doctor and Dravidian Stockist known for spewing hatred on Brahmins said in a YouTube interview that the Kalakshetra is dominated by Brahmins who are known for sexually abusing students while teaching dance steps by touching students.

He went on to say that sexual harassment has been going on in Kalakshetra for years and has only recently come to light. He further said that in the early days, news of sexual harassment in Kalakshetra was ignored by media outlets as the media was also dominated by Brahmins.

Thanthi TV carried a byte of one of the protesting students of Kalakshetra in which she alleges that Kalakshetra management gives marks to students based on one’s caste. However, the veracity of these claims have been disputed.

Despite that Dravidian Stockist handles had used the byte to run a tirade against Brahmins.

Dravidian Stockists also attacked woman journalist Sandhya Ravishankar who had retorted at a handle named ‘We Dravidians’ which implied that the accused were ‘vegetarians’ indirectly referring to Brahmins.

BJP Leader TADA Periyasamy Slams Vetrimaaran For Selective & Fictitious Portrayal Of Real-Life Incident In Viduthalai

Film director Vetrimaaran’s latest film Viduthalai Part 1, starring Soori and Vijay Sethupathi was released on 31 March 2023. The film is about  a police constable (Soori) who gets recruited to track down a naxal leader named Perumal Vaathyaar (Vijay Sethupathi) who leads an outfit named ‘Makkal Padai’ (People’s Army) which fights the government system and corporates exploiting natural resources.

Though the makers of the film have put a disclaimer that all characters and incidents in the movie are fictional, the film is based on B. Jeyamohan’s short story Thunaivan which is based on the real-life incidents that happened in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

On 15 March 1987, the railway track between Ariyalur and Sillakudi at the Marudhaiyar bridge was blown up leading the Rockfort Express to derail resulting in 26 dead and around 140 people injured.

The perpetrators of the act belonged to the Tamil Nadu Viduthalai Padai (Tamil Nadu Liberation Troop) headed by a man called Thamizharasan who was arrested in 1985 in one case and had come out on parole. The TNVP had links to various other Tamil separatist and naxal outfits.

According to an India Today report, posters recovered at the site and Ariyalur questioned the Government’s failure to officially recognise Tamil Eelam, with calls against imposition of Hindi and demand for the return of the arrested militants.

Thamizharasan, Kaliapperumal, Sundaram, were the prominent leaders of the TNVP. The FIR filed by the police listed Thamizharasan alias Krishnamoorthy, Jegannathan alias Vayithuvali, Dharmalingam alias Balu, and 7 others as conspirators.

One of the prime accused in the Marudhaiyar bridge incident was TADA’ Periyasamy who is now a BJP Tamil Nadu leader. He was detained on 25 April 1987 and sent to 15 days judicial custody. He was slapped with the National Security Act and was sentenced to death. He was later acquitted by the Madras High Court but only after spending 3 years in jail.

Another similar incident happened on 24 October 1992 in which the railway track between Palanganatham – Kallagam railway stations was blown up. Periyasamy, Deivasigamani alias Lenin who TNVP after Thamizharasan’s death, Karalan alias Nagarajan and Seeliyambatti Rajaram were arrested in the case. Periyasamy was slapped with charges under the now-repealed Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act thus giving him the moniker ‘TADA’. Thus, in total TADA Periyasamy spent 6 years in jail due to his involvement in the Tamil separtists movements of that time.

However, Vetrimaaran has no where made any mention to TADA Periyasamy while Vijaya Sethupathi’s character has been based on Thamizharasan.

In a social media post, TADA Periyasamy slammed Vetrimaaran for the selective and fictitious portrayal. He said “Attempts to cover up the political ideas of the then struggles and the true history is condemnable.”

Vetrimaaran has also been promoting his films through political leaders like Naam Tamilar Katchi head Seeman and VCK’s Thirumavalavan.

Commenting on this, Periyasami said “It is ridiculous to make people like Thirumavalavan and Seeman watch the film and make them look like rebels. In those times, people like Thirumavalavan and Seeman were not in the political arena. They were college students then.”

He said that Vetrimaaran should’ve carefully handled the portrayal of the film and said that the movie in its current form will cause confusion and misunderstanding about the movement.

“I kindly request that a clear true history be recorded and filmed in the second part of Viduthalai”, TADA Periyasamy said.

Karnataka Polls 2023: And the Winner is…

Ever since the 2023 Karnataka state election dates were announced last week, pre-poll surveys and statistics have popped up on most news sites. Will the Southern gateway of the BJP, vote for the party again and enable it to stay in power beyond May 2023 or will a united opposition featuring an uneasy alliance between the Congress and the Janata Dal Secular, sound the victory bugle?

The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced a single phase poll to take place in the state on 10 May 2023 for electing all 224 members to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. The results are expected to be declared on 13 May 2023.

The three principal parties in the fray for a hotly contested Karnataka state election are the BJP, the Congress and the JDS. Thus far, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Communist parties have had a negligible presence in the state. It is widely believed that the 2023 election is being fought on two main issues (religion and caste) with another two issues trailing closely behind (alleged corruption with government projects and Bengaluru city’s administrative/civic issues).

All three parties have their share of challenges and problems. Most pre-poll surveys project a close contest between the BJP and the Congress with neither party attaining a clear majority and hence depending on the JDS for the required numbers, giving the JDS party a smug ‘king maker’ status.

The ruling BJP dispensation is grappling with allegations of corruption with government contracts/ recruitments and non-payment or significantly delayed payments to private contractors. The BJP is also on the back foot with failing to fix Bengaluru city’s perennial list of civic problems such as bad roads, pot holes, traffic management, water logging during the monsoons and poorly constructed over passes, under passes and small bridges. In all fairness, these issues have been around for a while with no previous government or political party having taken the necessary action to resolve them. However, the city’s residents often direct their angst and frustration on the party in power in any given year and that happens to be the BJP for the last four of the five years, since the 2018 state elections. The party also struggles with its attention split between two important leaders within the state’s BJP unit – the current CM Basavaraj Bommai and the previous CM (2019-2021), BJP strongman and crowd puller, BS Yediyurappa.

The Karnataka Congress unit has been beset by open, heavy-duty infighting between two men with super sized egos – former CM Siddaramaiah and CM Hopeful, DK Shiva Kumar, both claiming support from their party’s ‘high command’. There have been a handful of shameful, openly hostile confrontations between the two leaders, neither unwilling to sacrifice their personal ambitions for their party’s and the state’s larger interest. Despite a show of unity in the presence of the Congress’s national leaders, both Shiva Kumar and Siddaramaiah have often been ridiculed for their childish finger-pointing and sparring between themselves and their supporters.

Additionally, DK Shiva Kumar has been in the news for allegations of corruption, income tax evasion and a few disproportionate-assets charges, by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Income Tax department. In their previous tenure, the Congress like the incumbent BJP, was also accused of several corruption charges. The party also fared poorly in its much publicized political alliance with the JDS, resulting in the collapse of the JDS-led coalition government in 2019 and ending the alliance on a bitter note.

As for the JDS, it does not have a strong pan-Karnataka presence, limiting its influence and popularity to the Old Mysuru region including Mandya district. The JDS core votebank is a section of mostly rural and semi-urban people involved in the farming sector, one way or another. Its current leader, HD Kumaraswamy (son of former Indian Prime Minister, HD Deve Gowda) has thus far, not demonstrated an ability to draw the attention of a wider voter base nor the ability to enter into and maintain a strong political alliance with either the BJP or the Congress. The party’s political promises appear similar to those of the other political parties and do not stand out in any way from a vast plethora and clutter of electoral promises. If the JDS does manage to grab a significant share of votes, fulfilling the pre-poll prediction of the party being in a position to strike a crucial deal/ make or break a BJP-led or Congress-led coalition state government, which party will it choose to support and what will it bargain for?

For the ruling BJP, the 2023 elections will be a test of its views and policies in areas of religion (the Burqa ban, communal confrontations on other issues), Caste equations (increased reservation for Lingayats and Vokkaligas while reducing reservations for a section of muslims, internal reshuffle within an increased SC reservation) and its promise of continued economic assistance and support from the BJP government at the centre. Both the Congress as well as the BJP are also engaged in vociferously expressing their views on a long-standing border dispute between Karnataka and Maharastra over Belagavi (Belgaum) district in North Karnataka.

Most political analysts speculate that religion and caste would be the major deciding factors in the upcoming elections, well over issues of development and administration. The Lingayats and Vokkaligas are the two largest homogenous castes in North and South Karnataka respectively with the Kuruba community in the third slot, mostly based out of the state’s Eastern regions. The various Scheduled Caste (SC) communities together form the largest heterogenous group across the state.

Historically, the BJP has done well with the Lingayat community, the JDS has the support of the Vokkaligas and the Congress has traditionally tried to balance caste equations in the state, taking care not to tip the scales too much in favour of any one particular community. Current BJP chief minister and his predecessor, Bommai and Yeddiruppa are both Lingayats, former CM Siddaramaiah of the Congress is a Kuruba, the Congress’s trouble shooter and CM hopeful, D.K Shiva Kumar is a Vokkaliga and the JDS’s Kumaraswamy is a Vokkaliga as well.

All three parties are armed with their respective party’s caste and region-based statistics, calculations and analytics. Which party’s analysis and strategy, based on caste, regional and religious factors, will bring in the votes? Will the voters surprise political stalwarts of all three parties by voting across regional, religious and caste lines? Karnataka will have its political answers in less than two nerve wracking months from now, at the end of May.

“Will Take ‘Strict Action’ Against Christian Pastors Holding SC Certificates”: AP Govt Informs NCSC

In a big development, the Andhra Pradesh government has reportedly informed the National Commission for Scheduled Caste (NCSC) that it will take strict action against Christian pastors who hold Scheduled Caste certificates.

Legal Rights Protection Forum (LRPF), the NGO-watchdog working for the rights of Scheduled Caste community, tweeted about the development citing a communication from the Principal Secretary (Social Welfare), Government of Andhra Pradesh, to the NCSC.

According to a report by Nijam Today, the Principal Secretary (Social Welfare) of Andhra Pradesh Government has sent a letter to NCSC in which it was informed that they have shared district-wise data of pastors who availed of one-time assistance with respective district collectors (erstwhile districts) and asked them to verify the genuineness of the caste of beneficiaries case by case and submit the reports to District Level Scrutiny Committee for cancellation of SC certificates.

The letter also states that the Director of Social Welfare has requested all the District Collectors and the Managing Directors of the Andhra Pradesh Christian Minority Corporation to submit a detailed and factual report regarding the allegations made by the Legal Rights Protection Forum.

The letter also quoted another report in which the Director of Social Welfare stated that the final report would be submitted to the government soon after receiving the report from the District Collectors.

Background

In 2019, the Government of Andhra Pradesh made a one-time payment of ₹5000 to religious workers such as Pastors, Imams and Archaks, through the disaster management fund.

In September 2020, the Legal Rights Protection Forum (LRPF) stated that it had found 70% of 29,841 Christian pastors who received the one-time assistance are holding Hindu SC/OBC Caste Certificates.

Subsequently, LRPF submitted a petition to the NCSC demanding action against the large-scale misuse of SC status by converted Christians and called it a state-assisted incentive to convert to Christianity.

Following the petition submitted by the SC ST Rights Forum, a wing of LRPF, the NCSC issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh seeking an ‘Action Taken Report’ in the matter of large-scale Christian conversions happening amongst the Scheduled Caste (SC) community. The Government of Andhra Pradesh has ordered to survey the SC and Christian population.

On 12th August 2021, a memo was issued by the Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Department to Assistant Social Welfare Officers allocated to different revenue divisions to conduct field surveys and furnish the following information within five working days:

1. SC & Christian Population at Municipality and Mandal Wise.
2. Number of Churches in each Municipality/Mandal.
3. Visit SC colonies and observe if they practise Hinduism or Christianity.

PM Addresses 5th International Conference On Disaster Resilient Infrastructure

modi omicron india vaccines boosters

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the 5th International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI) 2023 via a video message.

The Prime Minister said that CDRI arose from a global vision that in a closely connected world, the impact of disasters will not just be local. Therefore, “our response has to be integrated not isolated”, he said. He noted that in just a few years, over 40 countries from advanced and developing countries, large or small or from global South or Global North have become part of the CDRI. He found it encouraging that apart from governments, global institutions, private sectors and domain experts are also involved.

The Prime Minister outlined some priorities for discussion for disaster resilience infrastructure in the context of this year’s theme of ‘Delivering Resilient and Inclusive Infrastructure’. The Prime Minister said “Infrastructure is not only about returns but also about reach and resilience. Infrastructure must leave none behind and serve the people even during times of crisis.” The Prime Minister stressed the need for a holistic view of infrastructure as social and digital infrastructure are as important as transport infrastructure.

Along with quick relief, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to focus on early restoration of normalcy too. “Resilience is built in the times between one disaster and another. Studying past disasters and learning lessons from them is the way”, he added.

Shri Modi underlined the intelligent use of local knowledge of building infrastructures that can with-stand disasters. Modern technology with local insights can be great for resilience. Further, if documented well, local knowledge may become a global best practice, the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister noted the inclusive intent of some of the CDRI initiatives. He mentioned the Infrastructure for Resilient Island States initiative or IRIS benefitting many island nations. He remarked on the Infrastructure Resilience Accelerator Fund that was announced last year. This 50-million-dollar fund has generated immense interest among developing nations. “The commitment of financial resources is key to the success of initiatives”, the Prime Minister emphasized.

Mentioning India’s G20 presidency, the Prime Minister informed about inclusion of the CDRI in many working groups. ‘The solutions you explore here will receive attention at the highest levels of global policymaking’, he said.

Referring to the scale and intensity of the recent disasters like the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria, the Prime Minister concluded by underlining the importance of CDRI’s work and its importance.
