Union Fin Min Nirmala Sitharaman Tears Into DMK MP Kanimozhi, DMK MPs And Allies Run Away

The no-confidence motion against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA is being debated in Parliament. In connection with this, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi raised a few questions to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. However, just as Finance Minister was about to start her response, most of the DMK MPs and other allies left the Parliament.

Kanimozhi put forth the question, “You have installed the Sengol in the new parliament with great fanfare but do you really know the history of Tamil Nadu? Have you heard of the Pandiyan Sengol and also do you know the history of Kannagi? Please read the Silappadigaram, don’t impose Hindi.”

On The Question Of Sengol

Finance Minister read out the questions and pointed out the fact that the Sengol particularly, as given to our first Prime Minister was also given by Aadenams who are a unique institution for Tamil Nadu. She said that the same party had no objection when the sacred Sengol has been treated as a walking stick for PM Nehru. She reminded the House that it was kept in a private house/museum and it was used as a Chhaddi (walking stick) and not Sengol.

She asked pointedly, “Doesn’t hurt that the Tamil pride? Is that not an insult to the Tamils? So when PM Modi restored it (Sengol) to its rightful place in Lok Sabha, that became an issue, that is an insult to the Tamils. The Sengol was ignored for decades. The Sengol was lost in history and kept in some museum. The Kashi Tamil Sangamam showed how Tamil Nadu and Kashi have very deep connections. The first time you heard Tamil being quoted in the United Nations. In ‘Mann ki Baat’, PM has used Tamil so many times”.

On The Question Of Jallikattu

She also spoke about how Congress had termed Jallikattu, a sport intrinsic to Tamil culture, a “barbaric sport”. She said, “It was during the UPA government when DMK was a partner in that government that Jallikattu which is a typical reflective of Tamil culture was called a barbaric sport and was banned by that very same UPA in which DMK was a member. Is it barbaric? It took PM Modi to permit the sport in 2016 and Jallikattu was played in TN.”

Hindi Imposition

DMK MP Kanimozhi also asked the government to stop imposing Hindi on Tamilians and asked them to read the Silappadikaram since it would give valuable lessons to everyone.

Nirmala Sitharaman, in response, emphasized that in Tamil Nadu, a mandate against learning Hindi and Sanskrit was enforced in the guise of resisting Hindi imposition, and it constituted an ideological imposition. She said that the government might have the power to promote Tamil, but it did not have the power to prevent people from learning Hindi or Sanskrit. Despite this, she said they prevented the Tamilians from studying Hindi or Sanskrit due to their hubris. She said, “I am recounting my lived experience”. She added that, “It is the same Tamil Nadu that stops every individual from learning Hindi or Sanskrit and today in the name of language they are telling us to read Silappadikaram.”

Nirmala Sitharaman quoted Ma Po Si (Mylai Ponnusami Sivagnanam) who is considered an authority in Silappadikaram and was given the title Silambuchelvar, wrote in Tamil Murasu magazine about Silappadikkaram. Nirmala Sitharaman said our Prime Minister is already implementing Silappadikaram principles through Ek Bharat Sreshta Bharat. She quoted, Silappadikaram tells us, “We are not Dravidians, we are Tamilians. Our motherland is not Dravidam but Tamizhagam. Our northern border is Vengadam, not Vindhya, and beyond Vengadam if people’s cultural habits and practices are in one form, they may be slightly different but not opposite to us. he talks about India’s oneness.” She said, although Kanimozhi may not be speaking separatist language, separatism influences the kind of language with which Kanimozhi tells the Prime Minister to read the Silappadikaram.

On The Question Of Draupadi

Nirmala Sitharaman pointed out that Kanimozhi made reference to Draupadi from the Mahabharata, highlighting her humiliation and disrobing. While acknowledging it, Sitharaman said, it is about women, the act of disrobing, demeaning, and disgracing women. She said everyone must regard this matter with utmost seriousness and that she was confident that Kanimozhi too holds this concern, and didn’t intend to undermine it. She concurred that her concern was valid and that when it comes to the suffering of women, regardless of the context, we must address it earnestly without resorting to playing politics. However, she said, she wanted to remind Kanimozhi and the entire assembly of a particular incident.

“I agree that women suffering anywhere – Manipur, Delhi, Rajasthan – will have to be taken seriously. No politics played. But I want to remind this entire House of one incident which happened on 25th March 1989 in Tamil Nadu Assembly. a sacred sabha. then she hadn’t become CM, she was the leader of the Opposition, the first woman. Jayalalithaa’s saree was pulled in Tamil Nadu in the Assembly. She was the Leader of the Opposition. The DMK members who were seated there heckled her and laughed at her, made of her. You’re talking of Kaurava sabha, of Draupadi? Has DMK forgotten Jayalalithaa? You pulled her saree, you demeaned her. That day Jayalalithaa took an oath that she will never come to the House unless she becomes the CM. Two years later, she returned as the CM of Tamil Nadu…” Sitharaman said it was unbelievable that a party that was in power at that time, where a leader of the Opposition had her saree pulled and demeaned, was talking about Draupadi when all the members were mute spectators of the injustice happening to J Jayalalithaa.

Puthiya Thalaimurai’s English Outlet ‘The Federal’ Publishes Hindumisic Cartoon Over RaGa’s Flying Kiss Row

As the alleged flying kiss of reinstated Congress MP, Rahul Gandhi made the news on 9 August 2023, several articles and cartoons were published – some condemning the incident and some justifying it.

One such cartoon that caught The Commune’s attention was the one published by the English outlet of Puthiya Thalaimurai – The Federal. The handle had shared a caricature with the backdrop of the “flying kiss” depicting two Hindus referring to the “Kama Sutra” book and coming to the conclusion that since it was absent in this particular text, it must be a repulsive Western concept. The cartoon was created by one “artist” named Nala Ponnappa.

The Federal is a division of New Generation Media Corporation Private Limited, launched by TR Parivendhar (TR Pachamuthu) the leader of Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi. Pachamuthu aligned with the BJP in the 2014 general elections and lost. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he contested and won in the Perumbalur constituency aligning with the DMK. In 2021, he aligned with Kamal Hassan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam for the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls. The Hindumisic cartoon comes even as his son Ravi Pachamuthu is expected to contest the Lok Sabha elections as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

This is not the first time that Puthiya Thalaimurai, which portrays itself as a neutral media has revealed its Leftist and Dravidian Stockist colours.

Earlier, Karthigaichelvan, who was formerly the Editor-in-Chief of the Tamil mainstream news channel had peddled hatred against Prime Minister Narendra Modi several times.

Back in 2015, he had shared a disparaging cartoon implying that the Union Government under Narendra Modi is being controlled by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). This tweet has now been deleted by Karthigaichelvan.

Once he was called out by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for deliberately trying to peddle anti-Modi propaganda saying that the Centre was waiving off loans taken by corporates.

Puthiya Thalaimurai, the Tamil television news channel was also called out for its bias and was found to focus extensively on the debates surrounding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical colleges.

In June 2018, Puthiya Thalaimurai was one of the television channels that provided a platform to individuals who incite violence among young people with their inflammatory statements, which frequently contain misleading information.

A case was filed following a chaotic altercation that erupted during a panel discussion hosted by the channel in Coimbatore. The discussion revolved around the topic of whether the protests within the state were driven by political motivations or stemmed from the pursuit of people’s rights. The skirmish broke out when Ameer Sultan (director) allegedly mentioned the killing of Hindu Munnani leader Sasikumar in Coimbatore in 2016. This reference was seemingly unrelated to the subject being discussed at the talk show hosted by the Puthiya Thalaimurai channel, which sparked a strong reaction and outcry from the attendees.

Unveiling The Complex Nexus: The Intersection Of Islamist-Left-Liberal-Woke Ideological Collaboration – Part 1

The social, political, and economic ‘Centre’ and ‘Right of Centre’ segment of the world’s population is slowly waking up to the reality of a new, unholy, dangerous nexus among the ultra-Left, Liberal, Woke, and the ultra Islamist groups, in furthering a sinister agenda in most developed nations and a few developing countries like India.

Their ideological and political targets are the liberal, secular, and humanitarian-based developed nations in the West and those nations in the developing East, that are striving to emulate the West in their democratic, secular, liberal, human (rather than religion-centric) ideals. The Left-Liberal-Woke-Islamist network does not dare to operate in totalitarian, communist nations like Russia and China and Islamic nations and devoutly Christian nations. Their target is liberal, humanist, progressive “secular” nations.

They are too cowardly to try preaching supposedly “humanitarian” values to religious-extremist, non-secular nations or Islamic countries. This motley group targets those nations and citizens that are liberal enough to naively allow them to access their debate rooms, government offices, courtrooms, educational institutions, and their people’s minds.

In India, there has always been a tacit understanding (aiming to influence the public) among the “communist” Left, the Liberal Left, the urban and rural Naxalite Left, the Pseudo-secular Left, the peculiar Hindu-apologist Left, and the Islamists. In countries like the U.S and the U.K, the well-intentioned albeit unsuspecting public is bombarded with propaganda that tries to bring a loosely put-together concoction of class, gender, race, and religion (mostly Islam) together in the name of an “injustice” to all who fall in any of the four above-mentioned “victim” groups, which make it a sizeable, cohesive group to deal with.

The Right and Centre of Right are justified in worrying about this disturbing trend. Islamists market and promote themselves as victims of injustice in the world although they are the aggressors and perpetrators of inequality and injustice in most parts of the world!! By grabbing and effectively using the false “victimhood” narrative for itself, Islam has ensured that the real victims (non-Muslims, women, children, local cultures, indigenous tribes, etc.) are denied the real victimhood label and denied the assurance of necessary protection from Islam’s aggressive political and expansionist ambitions.

Any which way you look at it, both in the East and the West, the religion that has falsely grabbed and cornered the “victimhood” denominator and stands to gain the most from tying itself to all the “other” real vulnerable/ potential victimhood groups, carefully teaming up with them and cleverly aligning with them on strategic issues (immigration, special rights, free services, additional government aid, propagation and promotion of a particular religion etc.) …. is Islam!

Typically, liberal, democratic, and secular societies are far more tolerant of diverse faiths, life choices, opinions, and new ideas. Naturally, such nations become the target of the extremist, ultra Left-Woke-Islamist movements. They spin an elaborate story of victimhood and oppression so cleverly that by the time they are done weaving together a tapestry of several narratives and interwoven plots, most liberal, broad-minded people are tricked into believing this sinister group’s version of right and wrong without judging the veracity of their claims, fact-checking or listening to any alternative views.

The targets and victims of the Islamist-Left-Liberal-Woke propaganda, often become guilt-tripped for not belonging to either of the four sub-groups of this unholy nexus. The average, educated, broad-minded, humanist citizen in the targeted democratic, secular, liberal nations, stops questioning the highly exaggerated victimhood narratives or downright lies that have been falsely peddled to them. Therein lies the danger of a large, liberal, gullible “educated” population, blindsided by a clever enemy preying on their naivety, their goodwill, their humanity, their willingness to listen and accept different opinions.

After being brain-washed into thinking that all religions and political/ social views are “equal”, the broad-minded, educated, well-meaning populations of many democratic nations, lose their ability to fact-check, their ability to question, their ability to think independently, ultimately disabling them from seeing through the thick fog of misinformation, exaggeration and lies. By the end of a slow but steady brain-washing process highlighted frequently with tales of exaggerated suffering, victimhood, hardship, torture, etc….the average educated, liberal mind develops a sense of misplaced guilt and becomes apologetic for who he/she is, for absolutely no fault of theirs. The average educated, liberal, warm, and welcoming mind is made to feel guilty about having had a normal life and the opportunity to experience success with their own hard work!

The Islamist-Left-Liberal-Woke ideological collaboration/network and its operations, slow-poisoning young minds, has far-reaching consequences for Western secular democracies as well as the liberal, democratic, secular countries in the East – countries like India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines. The most impacted are the democratic, non-dictatorship, non-totalitarian, non-Islamic States.

The Left-Woke-Islamist networks that operate in countries like the U.S. and U.K. influence public opinion in their respective countries, impact independent thinking in educational institutions and government think tanks and ultimately impact
policy-making and their government’s official stand on certain global matters. Hence, the West’s stand (official or not) and unsolicited interference on matters like Kashmir and India’s other security problems, which are solely India’s internal issues to be handled at its own discretion, within its rights as an independent, sovereign nation.

Young Pregnant Woman Dies After Cesarean Operation At Virudhachalam Government Hospital Due To Alleged Medical Negligence

The Virudhachalam government hospital is once again under scrutiny following a tragic incident that claimed the life of a young pregnant woman. Kalpana, daughter of Radhika and a resident of Mangalam Pettai Ambedkar Nagar, tragically passed away after a cesarean operation, igniting renewed concerns about the subpar state of health infrastructure in government hospitals across Tamil Nadu.

Kalpana was admitted to the Virudhachalam government hospital for her delivery. It was reported that she was taken into the operation theatre for a cesarean operation at 9 AM on 7 August 2023. Two and a half hours later, the medical staff informed her parents that she had successfully given birth to a baby boy. However, Kalpana’s parents were denied access to their daughter.

As the newborn cried out for sustenance, Radhika wanted to give the child to the mother to be fed. Shockingly, hospital nurses prevented her from seeing her daughter. Overwhelmed by concern, Radhika ventured into the ICU section without permission, only to discover that Kalpana was not present. After repeated complaints, nurses eventually brought Kalpana back on a stretcher. However, Radhika found her daughter’s body to be unnaturally cold and unresponsive.

Efforts to revive Kalpana were in vain and it was only after an arduous struggle by Radhika and her family that doctors arrived at the scene. It was then confirmed that Kalpana had already passed away.

The incident sparked outrage among Kalpana’s relatives who gathered at the hospital to protest against the alleged negligence of the medical staff. The grieving family accused the doctors of mishandling the operation. In this situation, Virudhachalam police have taken the body for post-mortem.

This tragedy also brings to the forefront other instances of alleged negligence during the current dispensation in Tamil Nadu.

In November 2022, Priya R, a 17-year-old football player who underwent surgery to treat a ligament tear in her knee, died on the morning of 15 November 2022, as a result of multiple organ failures caused by medical negligence. It was reported that the blood flow to her right leg, where the surgery was performed, was obstructed because of the tightly bound band by doctors after the ligament surgery. The doctors at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital advised that the leg be amputated because all of the muscles in the leg were rotting. However, Priya died tragically at the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital in Chennai, after her health deteriorated due to multiple organ failure. 2 doctors from the orthopedics department were suspended for medical negligence.

A few days back, a video of a child using a paper cup as an oxygen mask in a government hospital in Uthiramerur in Tamil Nadu went viral, leading to questions being raised about the availability of medical equipment in the rural side of the state. The impact of the video was such that the state Health Minister had to respond, who said that the video “looks to be shot with a purpose”.

In another such incident reported a few days ago, a one-and-a-half-year-old boy who had his hand amputated at Chennai Government Hospital died Chennai Hand amputated child died in Egmore Hospital. Parents alleged negligence by the doctors who claimed that the baby was prematurely born.

Alleged Fact-Checker Zubair Tries To Buttress RaGa’s Alleged Flying Kiss Gesture In Parliament

Just as news of the alleged flying kiss gesture in Parliament by Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi came in, the alleged fact checker was quick to buttress the whole incident.

Little did he know that the video he shared had the actual gesture captured on camera, thus proving his own tweet incorrect.

He tweeted, “This is the video of Rahul Gandhi just before Smriti Irani spoke. Is there any other video of him allegedly blowing “Flying Kiss” to Smriti Irani as claimed by Shobha Karandlaje? Also in her, speech Smriti Irani said, Rahul Gandhi blew a ‘flying kiss’ to a Parliament which has female members. Not ‘Flying Kiss to Smriti Irani’ as tweeted by Payal Mehta. Interesting, Even Smriti Irani spoke about ‘Flying kiss’ at 13:22 after it was tweeted by Payal Mehta at 13:10.”

Netizens were quick to point out the alleged flying kiss in his own video.

https://twitter.com/SmokingLiberals/status/1689200362484609024

Zubair also alleges that the “kiss” was not directed at Smt. Irani.

In this report, you can read the various Congress leaders and other alliance members who are acknowledging that the alleged flying kiss was blown by Rahul Gandhi as he finished his speech.

He tries to compare two statements given by Union Minister Shobha Karandale. In an interview with ANI she said, “By giving Flying kiss to all women members, Rahul Gandhi went away.” However, he says that in the complaint letter, the complainants have mentioned it as “Inappropriate gesture towards Smriti Irani”.

Zubair doesn’t stop with the flying kiss. He continues to dig into the former allegations of Smriti Irani. Here is one. He writes, “Remember she had problem when a Minister from opposition party addressed her with “Dear”. But had no issues when party person wrote a letter with “Dear Smriti Irani ji”.”

Unfortunately for Zubair, he ended up comparing a formal letter and an informal medium such as Twitter and probably does not understand salutations and nuances when addressing a lady in public.

It is indeed difficult to come to a conclusion regarding Zubair’s intentions in attempting to fact-check whether the flying kiss was indeed directed, particularly towards Smt. Irani, the Speaker, or the members present in the treasury benches.

Congress Leaders Justify RaGa’s “Flying Kiss” In Parliament

Today is the first day in Parliament after suspension for Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi. Just as the news of the alleged flying kiss by reinstated MP broke, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee Spokesperson and General Secretary, Lakshmi Ramachandran tweeted admitting that Rahul Gandhi had indeed blown a flying kiss. She even goes on to defend the alleged gesture with a justification.

She tweeted, “Please don’t sexualise a kiss, madam! We kiss our babies…we kiss our elders…we kiss our friends of all genders, we kiss our brothers, sisters, husbands, wives and partners and the underlying emotion is just pure Grow up and find some other fault if you can!”

When a Twitter handle asked whether he got consent, she replied, “For a flying kiss to a large group of people? Next time, when Rahul Gandhi says Namaste also he will get Smriti Irani Ji’s consent! Don’t worry!”

She also tweeted quoting Smriti Irani’s video saying, “Madam, What is misogynist about a kiss? Doesn’t a father kiss his children, daughter, mother? Please don’t become like your predecessor in Mahila Morcha who throws away her brain while talking about Rahul Gandhi!”

Mohan Kumaramangalam, Working President of the Tamilnadu Congress, also tweeted in support of the alleged flying kiss. He wrote, “This is an image taken at the Red fort when he blew a flying kiss to all the Bharat Jodo Yatris. Those have hate in their hearts, gobar in their heads and acid on their tongues cant differentiate between an action signifying universal love and a misogynists perversion.”

Everyone seemed to be going the “Mohabbat Ki Dukaan” way.

Alleged journalists such as these also wrote in “support” of Rahul Gandhi’s alleged gesture. He claims “flying kiss is done & accepted globally. It’s just nitpicking.”

https://twitter.com/rahuldev2/status/1689203781882241024

Shiv Sena’s Rajya Sabha MP, Shiv Sena UBT Spokesperson, and former Congress member, Priyanka Chaturvedi said, “I was at the visitors gallery and he (Rahul Gandhi) did it as a gesture of affection. They (BJP) can’t accept love.”

Speaking to NDTV, an unnamed Congress leader is said to have acknowledged the alleged gesture. He said, “Rahul Gandhi gestured towards the treasury benches as he was leaving with a flying kiss as he had called them brothers and sisters. He did not direct it towards any particular minister or MP, and not at all towards Union Minister Smriti Irani”

Netizens questioned the hypocrisy and the poor behaviour of the Congress, especially that of Rahul Gandhi and those supporting the alleged gesture.

Rahul Gandhi Says Modi Govt Murdered Bharat Mata, Allegedly Blows Flying Kiss As He Exited Parliament After Speech In No-Confidence Motion

It was reinstated MP Rahul Gandhi’s turn today to talk in support of the No-Confidence Motion moved by his party and allies against the ruling government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party under Prime Minister Modi.

Rahul Gandhi began his speech by “assuring” the members that he would not talk about Adani (however does a U-turn later) and spoke about how the Bharat Jodo Yatra dissolved his “ahankaar” (ego).

Rahul Gandhi claimed that he had been waking up to criticism and derogatory comments on a daily basis for the past 9 years. He said he felt curious to understand the reasons behind this treatment and thus intended to find the answer through his Bharat Jodo Yatra which he claimed was not over yet.

He raised the topic of Manipur, stating that for the Prime Minister, it was not a part of India, and questioned the Prime Minister’s absence from the region.

Then Rahul Gandhi started making controversial statements. He alleged that “Hindustan ko murder kiya hai” (India has been murdered) and accused the centre of being responsible for committing “Bharat mata ki hatya” (murder of Mother India) in Manipur. He used strong language to label the ruling government as “deshdrohi” (traitors) and “Bharat mata ke hatyare” (killers of Mother India).

In response to these derogatory statements, the members of the House raised their voices and the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla intervened. He said that Bharat Ma is our Mother and you must not speak like that, to Rahul Gandhi. To this, Rahul Gandhi replied saying, “Yes I am speaking about the murder of Bharat Ma. You have killed my mother. One mother of mine is sitting here, the other mother, you killed in Manipur.”

He talked about Ramayana and said Ravana used to listen to only two people, Meghnad and Kumbhakarna. He accused the Prime Minister Modi of not listening to the people of the country or the people of Manipur but instead claimed that PM Modi would only listen to two people – Amit Shah and Adani. He went on to compare the burning of Lanka with the “burning of Manipur & India”. He said Lanka was not burnt down by Hanuman, it was burnt by the ego of Ravana. Similarly, here the same thing is happening. Modi is burning the whole country and you are committing the murder of Bharat Mata.

In response, Union Minister and BJP MP Smriti Irani rebuked Gandhi’s claims. She thundered, “You are not India, for India is not corrupt. India believes in merit not in dynasty & today of all the days people like you need to remember what was told to the British – Quit India. Corruption Quit India, Dynasty Quit India. Merit now finds a place in India…”

Irani cited examples of gut-wrenching events such as Girija Tikkoo’s rape and murder as well that of Sheela Bhat and cited a few examples from the 1984 Sikh riots where people have suffered under the Congress and questioned the sincerity of Congress in addressing such matters.

She also said, “In the history of the Parliament, no one has ever slammed/patted the desks when someone spoke of the murder of Bharat Mata. However, today, Congress members have patted/slammed the desks when he spoke of the murder of Bharat Mata”

Coming to the claim that Rahul Gandhi made, that for Prime Minister Modi, Manipur is not a part of India, Irani quoted EV Velu who is an alliance partner of the Congress. EV Velu had said that for Tamilians, India was a country in the north. She questioned Gandhi whether he had the guts to confront his alliance partner for these statements.

Irani also mentioned a point about Article 370 and said “…It was mentioned in the House today that he (Rahul Gandhi) undertook a Yatra and gave assurance that they will reinstate Article 370 if it is up to them…I would like to tell the person who has run away from the House that neither will Article 370 be reinstated in the country nor will those who threaten Kashmiri Pandits with “Ralib Galib Chalib” be spared.”

She even asserted that her party was ready for discussions on the Manipur issue and even invited the other members of the House for a discussion. She said, “Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah & Defence Minister Rajnath Singh repeatedly said that the government is ready to debate on the Manipur issue. The opposition ran away from it, we did not…”

As she concluded, she alleged that Rahul Gandhi blew a flying kiss as he was exiting the Lok Sabha after his speech. She said, “I object to something. The one who was given the chance to speak before me displayed indecency before leaving. It is only a misogynistic man who can give a flying kiss to a Parliament which seats female members of Parliament. Such undignified conduct was never before seen in the Parliament of the country…”

Union minister Shobha Karandlaje and other women BJP MPs complained to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla against Rahul Gandhi’s alleged act of blowing a flying kiss inside Lok Sabha and accused him of insulting women MPs.

Police Inspector Transferred For Ordering To Remove Advertisement Banners Of Anti-Hindu Books At Erode Book Fair

In yet another instance, Erode North Police Inspector Shanmugam has been transferred to a control room, widely regarded as a punishment posting, for ordering the removal of certain anti-Hindu books from an ongoing book fair in Erode.

The Book Fair, inaugurated on the 3 August 2023, taking place at the Chikkaiah Naicker College Grounds in Erode, is organised under the banner of the Tamil Nadu Government and People’s Think Tank. This event has drawn widespread attention with a participation of over 230 book stalls. The Book Fair is scheduled to be continue until August 15.

The controversy stems from an advertisement poster displayed at book stalls 59, 101, and 102, showcasing a book titled “Hindutva Fascism – Vergalum Vizhuthugalum (Hindutva Fascism; Roots and Veins.)” Simultaneously, another poster promoted the book ‘Arthamilla Hindu Madham’, (Meaningless Hindu Religion, a counter to the acclaimed best-seller Arthamulla Hindu Madham, Meaningful Hindu Religion written by Kavignar Kannadasan), a publication of the Dravidar Kazhagam. Inspector Shanmugam, stationed at Erode North Police Station, issued an order to remove the advertisement posters related to these two books.

Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam and other Periyarist organisations strongly protested the  action of police inspector Shanmugam for ordering the removal of anti-Hindu poster. They claimed that they will not remove the books as the books were not banned in Tamil Nadu.

In a subsequent development, Superintendent of Police Jawahar intervened by transferring Police Inspector Shanmugam to the District Control Room. Additionally, Special Constable Meiyazhagan, who was allegedly involved in the incident but did not inform the District Superintendent of Police about the situation, has been transferred to the Tamil Nadu Armed Police Force which is a Reserve Force and considered a dummy posting.

This incident has sparked a broader discussion about the perceived anti-Hindu stance of the DMK government. Critics argue that the transfer of Inspector Shanmugam could be interpreted as a punitive action for attempting to maintain order and decorum at the book fair.

This is the second such incident this week in which police personnel were transferred for taking action on anti-Hindu issues. Earlier, A police sub-inspector, P Rajendran, was suspended on 7 August 2023 for making supposed “objectionable remarks” against religions after a voice note he posted on a private WhatsApp group that allegedly derided Christianity and Islam went viral on social media. The sub-inspector works at the Pulianthope Traffic Investigation Wing as per reports.

Bharat Mata Statue Removed By Police, Revenue Officials At Virudhunagar BJP Office

In the wee hours of Monday night, 7 August 2023, officials from the revenue department forcibly opened the gate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office located in the Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu. They proceeded to remove a statue of Bharat Mata. This action was initiated in response to a complaint that the statue had been placed there without obtaining the necessary permission.

Shortly after the statue’s installation, revenue officials arrived and demanded its removal due to the absence of proper permission. Following intense discussions, an agreement was reached to request official permission today. However, in the late hours of the previous night, more than 100 Tamil Nadu police personnel arrived at the location, forcibly entered the premises, and removed the statue. The statue was then transported to the Tahsildar’s office.

The BJP Virudhunagar district headquarters, designed to be a comprehensive facility, was recently opened along the Virudhunagar-Madurai-Kanyakumari National Highway, in close proximity to the district collector’s office. The inauguration of this office took place during a previous visit to Tamil Nadu by the national party president, JP Nadda, earlier this year.

As part of completing remaining construction tasks and addressing pending interior work, local BJP members made the decision to install the Bharat Mata statue ahead of the upcoming ‘En Mann, En Makkal’ padayatra led by Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party State president K Annamalai, which is scheduled to enter the district between 9 August 2023 and 11 August 2023.

A video of a police officer jumping over the wall to unlock the gates from inside to allow other officials to enter and subsequently removing the statue of Bharat Mata at the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) office in Virudhunagar has been circulating on social media. State President of the BJP, K Annamalai strongly condemned the action carried out.

He tweeted saying we strongly condemn the removal of the Bharat Mata statue at the BJP office in Virudhunagar that the police carried out by climbing over the wall.

He also said, “Under the current corrupt DMK regime in Tamil Nadu, there is no right even to install a statue of Bharat Mata in a place owned by a party. This move is a manifestation of the two ministers from this district who are at the height of fear as they are exposing the woes of the corrupt DMK government to the people through our #EnMannEnMakkal yatra.”

DMK Ministers Thangam Thennarasu and KKSSR Ramachandran hail from the Virudhunagar district that Annamalai will be visiting as a part of his padayatra.

TN Cop Suspended For Religious Remarks Sparks Allegations Of Selective Action, IMK Arjun Sampath Points Out Hypocrisy

In a recent development that has sparked debates across the state, Police Sub-Inspector P Rajendran has been suspended from duty as a result of purportedly making objectionable comments against religions. The suspension came after a voice note, attributed to him, circulated on a private WhatsApp group where he allegedly criticized Christianity and Islam. The remarks quickly went viral on various social media platforms, triggering a cascade of reactions and discussions.

Rajendran, serving in the Pulianthope Traffic Investigation Wing, is heard in the audio clip making statements that have caused a widespread uproar. He reportedly said, “This is India. We demolished the mosque in the Rama janma bhoomi and we are building a temple. We put the scepter in Parliament. Can you Christians and Muslims, stop this? If you can’t do it here, go and study in Pakistan or Saudi, don’t create religious problems. We are 80 percent, you both are 20 percent and whoever has the majority can rule.”

While acknowledging that some of the comments made by the Sub-Inspector violate professional conduct rules, the swiftness with which action has been taken in this instance has drawn attention to a perceived inconsistency in the handling of religious controversies involving government employees from different faiths.

Several Hindu organizations, including Indu Makkal Katchi, have voiced their condemnation of the DMK government’s actions. They highlight past instances where government servants from minority religions were allegedly engaged in religious activities, yet faced no comparable consequences.

For instance, in May 2023, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu was taken into custody after challenging a Muslim doctor who was wearing a burqa while on government duty. Despite the allegation that the doctor displayed an attitude of arrogance towards the uniform, the government chose to arrest the BJP member rather than address the issue raised.

Indu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath has pointed out the glaring contradiction in how religious incidents involving government employees are dealt with. The arrest of the BJP functionary, despite his complaint about the doctor’s uniform, is contrasted with the prompt suspension of Sub-Inspector Rajendran over his pro-Hindu comments. In a tweet, Indu Makkal Katchi chief Arjun Sampath said, “While no action has been taken on the woman government doctor for wearing Hijab during working hours, action has been taken on SI Rajendran for showing his patriotism.”

This controversy has also highlighted another case involving a senior IAS officer named Umashankar, who openly advocated Christianity during public meetings, defying service rules. Interestingly, despite calls for action, both the DMK and AIADMK governments refrained from taking any punitive measures against Umashankar for his alleged religious promotion while serving as a government official.

The selective action against officers expressing pro-Hindu sentiments has raised concerns about bias and equity in dealing with religious matters involving government personnel. On social media platforms and among the general public, calls for consistent treatment regardless of religious affiliation have gained traction. Demands have been made for an end to perceived discrimination against pro-Hindu officers and for fair handling of all such cases.
