“Sagar Sharma, Sagar Sharma”: Serial Fake News Peddler Of Puthiya Thalaimurai Tries To Fan Caste Hatred By Reiterating Name Of Detained Culprit In Parliament Security Breach?

Alleged ‘journalist’ Niranjan Kumar from Tamil mainstream news channel Puthiya Thalaimurai, who often fans north-south divide with his social media posts, has now attempted to incite caste hatred by repeatedly emphasizing on the name “Sagar Sharma”, the name in which one of the culprits entered the Lok Sabha and opened gas cannisters.

The Lok Sabha witnessed a major security breach, leading to the detention of four individuals by the Delhi Police. Two unidentified persons were apprehended after they managed to jump into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors’ gallery. Simultaneously, two other individuals, a man and a woman, were detained outside the Parliament for staging a protest using colored smoke.

The security breach comes at a poignant time, coinciding with the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack.

According to reports, visitor pass of one of the intruder in the name of ‘Sagar Sharma’ issued by BJP Mysuru MP Pratap Simha has been found.

In light of this, the self-proclaimed ‘journalist’ of Puthiya Thalaimurai tried to incite caste hatred by emphasizing on the name Sagar Sharma as Sharma is a surname that is mostly used by Brahmins.

The tweet of Niranjan Kumar reads as follows:

Big Breaking:

Name: Sagar Sharma

Sagar Sharma is one of the two attackers who stormed into the Lok Sabha today.

Name: Sagar Sharma

This is not the first time that this Dravidian Stock journalist has attempted to exploit a crisis to peddle divisive agenda.

Niranjan Kumar: A Notorious Fake News Peddler

Earlier in March 2022 when the Government of India was undertaking the high-stakes Operation Ganga to rescue Indian students stuck in war-torn Ukraine, Puthiya Thalaimurai journalist Niranjan Kumar peddled unverified claims that ‘South Indian’ students are allegedly being discriminated in the evacuation operation.

He had peddled fake news that the Modi Government at the Centre had ‘rejected’ Tamil Nadu’s tableau for the Republic Day Parade for not having ‘prominent freedom fighters’ while the fact is that each year only limited number of tableaus from states are selected based on the recommendations of an expert committee appointed by the Ministry of Defence.

The alleged ‘journalist had peddled fake news against BJP candidate of Ward No. 134. Uma Anandan, saying that she had lost by securing just 8 votes while she emerged as a winner with 5635 votes.

In January 2021, he was called out by the Office of Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for peddling fake news saying that the Minister had refused to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami citing budget consultation work.

Parliament Attack 2023: Major Security Breach In Lok Sabha As 2 Persons Jump From Visitors Gallery And Open Gas Cannisters, What We Know So Far

This incident took place on the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack, a dark day in history when terrorists affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed attacked the Parliament complex, resulting in the loss of nine lives.

The security breach unfolded as two individuals breached the visitors’ gallery and entered the Lok Sabha chamber. Members of Parliament (MPs) quickly evacuated the House in response to the unexpected intrusion. According to eyewitness accounts, the intruders began shouting slogans and released some form of gas, causing panic among the MPs.

Delhi Police swiftly detained both individuals who had entered the Lok Sabha chamber. Moments later, another man and woman, identified as Amol Shinde (25) and Neelam (42), were apprehended for their demonstration outside the Parliament, where they used cans emitting yellowish smoke.

MPs who witnessed the chaos expressed their concern about the breach, highlighting the potential danger posed by the intruders. Karti Chidambaram, a Congress MP, described the situation, stating that the individuals, approximately 20 years old, entered the House carrying canisters emitting yellow smoke. One of them attempted to approach the Speaker’s chair while shouting slogans. There were fears that the released smoke could have been harmful or poisonous.

Dimple Yadav, an MP from the Samajwadi Party who was present inside the House during the incident, emphasized the need for better identification of individuals entering the Parliament premises, suggesting that visitors and reporters should carry identification tags. She labeled the incident as a significant security lapse, raising concerns about the potential risks associated with such breaches.

The security breach comes at a poignant time, coinciding with the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack. In response to the incident, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla addressed the House, confirming the detention of the intruders and the seizure of materials in their possession. He also reassured MPs that the preliminary investigation indicated that the emitted smoke was of an ordinary nature.

According to reports, visitor pass of one of the intruder in the name of ‘Sagar Sharma’ issued by BJP Mysuru MP Pratap Simha has been found.

As further details emerge, it is crucial for authorities to conduct a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the breach to prevent such incidents in the future and bolster the security protocols in place.

Family Of Slain Farmer Seeks Help Amidst Threats For Exposing Illegal Sand Mining

Alleging official misconduct, the family of VSL Kumar, also known as Murugaiyan, has sought refuge at the Director General of Police (DGP) office in Chennai, claiming threats and intimidation for seeking justice for VSL Kumar who allegedly got murdered for complaint against illegal sand mining.

VSL Kumar’s daughter, accompanied by her mother, spoke to press reporters at the DGP’s office, recounting the events leading up to their desperate plea for protection. According to the daughter, the father was murdered on 31 October 2023, allegedly by individuals identified as Mohan and Samiravi. Disturbingly, despite filing a complaint at the Superintendent of Police (SP) office, no tangible action had been taken till date.

The daughter explained that the family’s troubles began when Kumar voiced his opposition to illegal sand mining activities in their district. They accused Mohan and Samiravi of being involved in the illicit trade and emphasized their father’s staunch stance against it.

“We complained about the murderers, Mohan and Samiravi, in the SP office, but no action was taken,” the daughter told reporters. “Thiruvaiyaru DSP Ramadoss visited our home, urging us to retract the names from the complaint. Fearing for our lives due to continuous threats, we have sought refuge here at the DGP’s office.”, they added.

The wife of the victim shed light on the roots of the conflict, stating, “There was a quarry issue between my husband and Mohan, Samiravi. My husband, a farmer, stood against illegal sand mining activities in the region.”

Accompanying the family, their advocate revealed disturbing details about the alleged negligence and misconduct by law enforcement. The advocate claimed that Kumar had informed the police about continuous threats to his life, but instead of taking action, the police warned him against getting involved in sand mining issues and advised him to compromise with the suspects.

The advocate further disclosed that Kumar was murdered on 31 October 2023, after filing a complaint against the murder suspects. Shockingly, no action was taken, and Thiruvaiyaru DSP Ramadoss reportedly visited the family’s home on 7 December 2023. The DSP allegedly coerced the family into signing blank papers and issued threats, emphasising that they should comply with the police’s directives.

It is noteworthy that the Enforcement Directorate is investigating the illegal sand mining scam in Tamil Nadu and put forth a figure of ₹4,730 crores as the value of the smuggled sand. A suspended DMK worker Gudiyatham Kumaran earlier accused DMK Minister Duraimurugan and his son of looting ₹60,000 crores in sand mining.

CM Stalin Deletes Post After It Was Found To Be False; Netizens Ask Where Is Fact-Checking Unit “Mission Director”?

On 12 December 2023, the Chief Minister found himself retracting a post that he had made on his X handle, commending writer Rajasekaran Devibharathi for winning the Sahitya Akademi Award. The accolade was reportedly bestowed upon Devibharathi for his novel ‘Neervazhi pattoom,’ which was reported to have captured the attention of literary enthusiasts.

News circulated about the novel receiving the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award, prompting Chief Minister Stalin to express his admiration for the writer. On his social media, the Chief Minister’s post read, “Praise and congratulations for the novel of Rajasekaran Devibharathi, who has drawn attention for his writing style, which depicts the life of ordinary people with the help of myths, for being selected for the Sahitya Akademi Award.”

However, this “jubilation” was short-lived as it was soon revealed that the Sahitya Akademi had not yet announced any awards. The discrepancy led to the immediate deletion of the Chief Minister’s post, highlighting the importance of verifying information before publicizing it.

The novel ‘Neervazhi pattoom,’ authored by Rajasekaran Devibharathi, gained attention for its reported exploration of the lives of ordinary people through the lens of myths. While the writer’s work may indeed be commendable, the state’s Chief Minister’s premature congratulations on the writer praising him for an award that has not been conferred has raised eyebrows about the state of affairs in the Chief Minister’s Office.

It is noteworthy that the government set up a “Fact-Checking Unit” under one Iyan Karthikeyan, who was previously the Editor-in-Chief of YouTurn, a self-proclaimed “fact-checking” website. Political observers ridiculed the incident wondering if the unit was indeed functional.

Political

A few months ago, a wheelchair-bound individual Vinoth Babu pulled off a scam by posing as the captain of India’s disability cricket team, even managing to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. Babu claimed to have led the team to victory in a non-existent world tournament held in Pakistan. His audacious scam involved displaying fake certificates and a trophy during the encounter with the officials.

The viral photograph triggered an alert from the actual Indian disability cricket team members, leading to an investigation by Ramanathapuram police.

Babu was booked under IPC Sections 416 and 420, accused of duping multiple individuals with his false captaincy and fraudulent cricket achievements. Wheelchair Cricket India Association promptly debunked his claims, revealing that Babu had never represented the country and had never participated in any overseas events, exposing a fraudulent narrative that extended to collecting donations from unsuspecting individuals.

YouTurn Uses TNM’s Rain Statistics To “Fact-Check” Rainfall Data Claims, IMD’s Data Gives A Completely Different Picture

With claims of unprecedented rains going around to justify the failures of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government in the 2023 floods, several channels kept running reports to prove that the rains were worse in 2023 rather than in 2015.

Alleged fact-checking website YouTurn (whose former Editor-in-Chief Iyan Karthikeyan is now the ‘Mission Director’ of DMK government’s Fact-Checking Unit) claimed that the rains were more in 2023 than in 2015. What was the basis of this claim? An article published by The News Minute

The News Minute is popularly known for being a Dravidianist-cum-Leftist outlet that peddles propaganda favourable to the DMK. The alleged fact-checking website YouTurn falls under the same category.

In the nearly 20-minute video, YouTurn claims it was only news channels like NewsJ that were spreading “fake news” that 2015 saw more rain than 2023. In TNM’s article, they quoted weather bloggers Chennai Rains’ Srikanth insisting on examining a 48-hour timeframe in the context of the 2023 floods. This distinction he said arises because the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) records rainfall data from 8.30 am to 8.30 am the following day. In the recent floods, the peak rainfall occurred between 8.30 pm on December 3 and 8.30 pm on 4 December 2023.

However, in the YouTurn video, they quote IMD’s numbers which allegedly say that the rains in 2023 were higher than in 2015.

But IMD’s data comparing 2015 and 2023 clearly prove that the rains in 2015 were much more than the present rains.

This claim by YouTurn was also debunked by RedPix’s Felix who shared data from various sources which prove that the rains in 2015 were genuinely unprecedented and those of 2023 were not labelled as unprecedented or a disaster by the IMD or any other weather agency.

Felix also shared data from various agencies and papers published in different journals and websites that indicate the monstrosity of the 2015 rains.

Tamil Nadu Weather Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai published some data on the rains received as of 5 December 2023.

It is clear from this data that the rains were 29% more than normal. The post also has data from 1 December 2023 to 4 December 2023.

Data published by Astrophysics Data Systems – A NASA-aided organisation indicates that normal rainfall in 2015 from 1 November 2015 to 5 December 2015 was 408.4 mm while what we received was 1418.4 mm.

A paper published by the American Meteorological Society also states that November had been the second wettest month in Chennai (1049 mm) in more than 100 yearsbut the main floods were caused by one day of extreme precipitation on 1 December. The commercial center, Chennai (formerly known as Madras), reported 24-hr precipitation from 0830 LT ranging from 77 to 494 mm at 18 stations, with a citywide-average of 286 mm (Fig. 17.1a). The city was declared a disaster area on 2 December after many areas, including the airport, were flooded.”

A weather-based initiative named World Weather Attribution on a page dedicated to the 2015 floods states that “A relentless downpour pounded Tamil Nadu’s capital city of Chennai on December 1, 2015, flooding and submerging one of India’s largest cities. The heaviest one-day rainfall in the region in more than a century – as much as 494 mm (19.45 inches) left more than three million people without basic services, collapsed roads and bridges, and halted air and train travel in and out of the city, stranding hundreds of passengers. “Chennai has become a small island,” said India Home Minister Rajnath Singh. The catastrophic rains not only isolated the city, but forced tens of thousands from their homes. The military dropped food supplies to residents stranded on rooftops. For the first time in its 137-year history, the local paper went unpublished because staff could not reach the press. On December 2, authorities declared Chennai a disaster zone.”

Felix in his video also shares data about the existing number of stormwater drains, and how these rainwater harvesting water systems and drains were blocked because of the dumping of garbage into these systems.

The YouTurn video parrots the same line as the DMK government saying people returned to their normal lives in 1-2 days, faster compared to 2015. They attribute this to the fact that stormwater drains worked! They also blamed the high tide as a reason for the slow draining of water into the sea. The video also states that stormwater drains were not functional in low-lying areas such as Tambaram, Pallikaranai, and Velachery.

During the floods, there were several fake pieces of information spreading on social media, however, these self-proclaimed fact-checking websites failed to do anything to quell rumours during a crisis.

After TNM’s Shabbir And Dhanya, DMK IT Wing Targets Avudaiappan For Old Tweets Appreciative Of ADMK And Critical Of DMK

The recent heartwrenching story of the father who received his stillborn infant in a cardboard box without a shroud caught everyone’s attention. Among them was the host of Zee Tamil’s show Tamizha Tamizha’s, anchor Avudaiappan.

In a post critical of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government, he wrote on this issue, “Right to Die with Dignity”-Article 21-Fundamental right. I have written many times praising the excellent medical infrastructure in Tamil Nadu but, at the same time it is disgraceful and shameful for a government hospital to give a dead child in a cardboard box without giving it even a cloth called Shroud. Very sorry state of affairs. @Subramanian_ma”

Following this, Avudaiappan posted “After the investigation confirmed that the dead child was placed in a cardboard box, action is being taken against the person concerned. Thank you honorable minister @Subramanian_ma”

He also shared a press note where it was stated that the person in charge was suspended.

However, similar to how the DMK supporters hounded Shabbir Ahmed of The News Minute for reporting the reality of the situation amidst the floods and the aftermath of the cyclone, a set of supporters of the DMK and members of the party’s IT wing targeted Avudaiappan for criticising the government. They dug up old posts of his where he was critical of the DMK and appreciated the ADMK government.

In one post in July 2013, Avudaiappan had written “Hansika jolly type, Nayanthara serious type – Udhayanidhi Stalin Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaya? Avan pakka fraud-u ma! (Darling, do you want to eat laddy? He is a pakka fraud.)”

Prior to that in June 2013 he had taken jibes at DMK leader Kanimozhi.

The DMK IT members also took objection to his posts appreciative of the late AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa.

https://twitter.com/nilapen12/status/1734266003599904980

An anonymous ID that peddles DMK propaganda lashed out at Avudaiappan saying that he would be dragged to the streets.

Self-proclaimed “Dr.” Arvind Raja, another rabid anti-Hindu Dravidian propaganda account sharing a snippet of Vasool Raja MBBS said “Discharge the old patient Shabbir Ahmed and admit the new patient Avudaiappan” which is nothing but a clarion call for DMK supporters on social media to come and abuse Avudaiappan.

Sabarimala Pilgrims Stand In Queue For Long Hours As Temple Faces Chaos Amidst Overcrowding; Girl Collapses & Dies

Pilgrims at the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple found themselves in a tumultuous situation, expressing anger towards the Kerala Police and the Travancore Devaswom Board due to extensive delays lasting over 12 hours in the queue. Despite attempts to manage the influx by limiting virtual queue bookings to 80,000 per day, the strategy has fallen short, leaving devotees from various states enduring prolonged waits for darshan.

“I spent five hours on the road to the temple when they blocked the traffic. Now, I am waiting in the queue to have darshan for 14 hours,”  a frustrated pilgrim said to Manorama News. Many pilgrims, including elderly individuals and children, reported discomfort as they got caught in the rush at the temple.

Tragedy struck on Saturday, 9 December 2023, when a girl collapsed and lost her life while waiting in the queue. In response, the Devaswom Board reinstated the special access queue for the elderly and children a day after the tragic incident. Despite a High Court order for the reinstatement of the queue system, no action had been taken since the beginning of the pilgrimage season.

Following the restoration of the special queue, a board was displayed, announcing the opening of Queue 9 exclusively for the elderly, children, and differently-abled individuals. Special seatings were arranged accordingly. However, reports from Manorama News revealed a violation of the special queue system, with pilgrims of all ages and health conditions found in line. The temple’s queue blocks were observed to be crowded, contrasting with the situation at Sannidhanam.

In 2022, the Travancore Devaswom Board reduced waiting times for people in special queues by two hours when the number of devotees exceeded 100,000. Despite the current pilgrim count being below this threshold, both the Devaswom Board and the police have struggled to manage the rush effectively. Responding to the mismanagement of crowds, the Devaswom Board decided on Saturday to cap virtual queue bookings at 80,000 per day. The temple witnessed an increase in rush as a substantial number of pilgrims ascended the hill shrine using the spot booking facility.

Local media reports have said that the crowd management has gone for a toss due to limited stationing of security personnel this time. Many have complained of dismal state of affairs with not even proper drinking water facilities available.

It has been reported that, many pilgrims have been returning without having a darshan of Ayyappa at the Sannidhanam. People with children and elderly have had a horrendous experience.

“Devotees Created Ruckus And Attacked Staff”: HR&CE Dept Says After Viral Video Of Bloodily Injured Ayyappa Devotee Surfaces

December is a month when temples in the south of India sees a huge influx of Ayyappa devotees who either on their way to or way back visit temples in Tamil Nadu. The Srirangam Ranganathaswamy temple is one among the many temples they visit in large numbers.

It is alleged that a scuffle broke out between the devotees standing in line for darshan and Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR & CE) department officials as a group of Ayyappa devotees were chanting Govinda Govinda.

According to report by Hindustan Times Tamil, an official was appointed by the temple management to control the burgeoning crowd. More than 30 Ayyappa devotees from neighbouring states who had been waiting for quite some time were scrambling to get the darshan of the lord and were chanting “Govinda Govinda” in devotion. The temple official there asked them not to shout “Govinda Govinda” and asked them to stay silent. As they tried to go ahead and have darshan of the deity chanting “Govinda Govinda”, it resulted in chaos.

An argument broke out between the guarding officials and the devotees which soon escalated into a scuffle.

In the altercation, a devotee named Chenna Rao suffered a broken nose, with blood spilling near the moolasthanam. The temple was later closed for reparative prayers, and devotees filed complaints against guards. Another complaint was filed by the guards against the devotees who were from the neighbouring states.

https://twitter.com/OurTemples/status/1734429217016709595

This news of this incident started spreading in social media circles and the HR&CE department has offered an explanation as to what is said to have happened inside the temple. They stated, “34 devotees from Andhra Pradesh hit the hundi with a loud bang and also attacked the temple workers; they grabbed his hair and banged it on the hundi. They did not allow the other devotees to have proper darshan, hence a complaint was made to the police department.”

MK Stalin, Udhayanidhi Stalin Rally Behind DMK MP Abdulla Who Quoted EVR And Called For Kashmir’s “Right To Self-Determination” On Racial Basis

DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and his Minister son Udhayanidhi Stalin have extended support to DMK MP MM Abdulla who had quoted EV Ramasamy Naicker (hailed as ‘periyar’ by his followers) and called for Kashmir’s “right to self-determination” (read secession) on racial basis.

On a day when the Supreme Court of India upheld the abrogation of Article 370 by the Narendra Modi government, I.N.D.I. Ally DMK MP MM Abdullah made a shocking statement on the floor of Rajya Sabha that borderline called for Kashmir’s secession on racial basis.

Quoting anti-Hindu and anti-India Dravidian demagogue EV Ramasamy Naicker (hailed as ‘Periyar’ by his followers), the DMK MP said “Every race has the right to self-determination. It is applicable for Kashmiri people as well.”

The Vice President of India (Rajya Sabha Chairman) Jagdeep Dhankar slammed the DMK MP for his remarks and said that it would be expunged.

In light of this, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin condemned and took objection to the expunging of EVR’s racist quote from the proceedings of the House. On the other hand, he steered away from whether he approved of the DMK MP’s call for “right to self-determination” on racial basis and instead made his condemnation about the freedom of expression.

When DMK MP Abdulla was speaking, he quoted Periyar which was opposed by the BJP. Periyar’s name too has been expunged. Freedom of speech and expression has been strangled in the Parliament itself! It is shame that Periyar’s name has been removed from the Parliament where once former PM VP Singh mentioned that Periyar was reason for Mandal Commission. Let us use Father Periyar’s name, which remains in people’s minds and threatens the communalists even today, anywhere – always – in any context! Everyone use it!“, MK Stalin wrote in his social media.

His son Udhayanidhi Stalin said “Quoting the opinion of the rational Pagalavan Father Periyar, the Rajya Sabha member of DMK Abdulla spoke in the Parliament which has jittered the fascists. Father Periyar’s name and quote from Abdullah’s speech have been removed from the parliamentary notes. We strongly condemn this. Father Periyar’s name can only be removed from their memory, and his name can never be removed from the memory of the people. Let us soon put an end to these fascist atrocities against parliamentary democracy and freedom of expression.”

Sabarimala Ayyappa Pilgrims Allegedly Assaulted By HR&CE Staff At Srirangam Temple, BJP TN Head Annamalai Announces Protest

As preparations are underway for the Vaikunta Ekadasi on 23 December 2023, the Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple has been seeing a large influx of crowd and with the onset of Sabarimalai season, many Ayyappa devotees from across southern part of India have been flocking to the temple on their way.

A group of 30-35 Sabarimala pilgrims from neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka who had come to the Srirangam temple were allegedly attacked by the staff of Tamil Nadu government’s Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department after being unable to control the crowd influx.

At that time, one man named attack on Chenna Rao was attacked where in his nose was broken and blood was dripping. In a viral video shared by temple activist Rangarajan Narasimhan, blood can be seen spilled all over near the moolasthanam with the injured man sitting in protest near the moolasthanam demandin action against officials.

The temple management who came then negotiated with Chennai Rao and a few other devotees from Andhra Pradesh and took them to the police station.

The devotees from the neighbouring states have filed complaints demanding the arrest of the temple guards who attacked them and the temple guards also filed a complaint demanding action against the devotees who attacked them.

As blood was spilled inside the temple near the moolasthanam, the temple was closed for reparation prayers (punyavachanam) and was opened after some time.

Condemning the incident, BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai lambasted the DMK government and the HR&CE department.

The Iyyappa devotees questioned the long wait in the queue and special treatment to a select few who were assaulted near the sanctum sanctorum & which resulted in bloodshed inside the Temple premises. This arrogance of the HR&CE department is one of the many reasons why BJP Tamil Nadu  has been wanting them out of Temple administration.“, Annamalai said.

He also announced that the Trichy unit of the BJP would protest against the HR&CE Department saying “BJP Tamil Nadu’s Trichy district unit will today hold a protest outside the Srirangam Ranganatha Swamy Temple against the TN HR&CE department, demanding the strictest action against those spoiling the sanctity of the Temple.

Of late, the glorious Srirangam temple has been hitting the news for all the wrong reasons.

On 8 December 2023, a lorry, purportedly owned by the Trichy City Corporation, attempted to navigate through one of the gopurams on the western side of the temple and caused serious damage to the ancient wall reliefs.

But due to the width of the lorry, it was unable to enter and got stuck halfway. When the lorry was driven backwards, it scraped through the wall carving leaving it seriously damaged.

In August 2023, a segment of the eastern entry tower at Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple collapsed.
