Twelve people, including five women, have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district for allegedly attempting to convert Hindus to Christianity by offering inducements, police said on Monday, 6 July 2026, as reported by PTI.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjay Kumar, the arrests were made after police raided a gathering in Jarauda village on Saturday following a complaint from members of Hindu organisations.
Police alleged that those present at the gathering were attempting to persuade Hindus to embrace Christianity by offering financial assistance and other inducements. Investigators claimed that the accused promised “miracle” healing through prayers and assured financial support for the weddings of their children in exchange for “accepting Jesus as saviour.”
During the raid, police arrested five women and seven men from the spot. They also seized three diaries, three religious books and six mobile phones. According to the police, literature recovered during the operation indicated an alleged affiliation with the Assemblies of God Church of North India (AGNI), a Pentecostal Christian organisation.
