A woman’s decision to reject a ₹40-lakh-a-year marriage proposal has sparked debate online after she claimed that the prospective groom’s choice of Rahul Gandhi as his role model was a deal-breaker for her. Aarohi Reddy shared the account on X, saying that despite the man being well-paid, good-looking and from a “good family”, she chose not to proceed after viewing his Instagram profile.
Aarohi Reddy made the claim in a post on X, which has since triggered a debate on social media over the role of political and ideological beliefs in marriage decisions.
According to Reddy, she recently received a marriage proposal from a man who was “good-looking,” earned ₹40 lakh annually and came from a “good family.” However, she said she rejected the proposal for one reason: his Instagram profile identified Rahul Gandhi as his role model.
I recently got a marriage proposal.
The guy was good-looking, had an impressive ₹40 lakh package, and came from a good family.
But I rejected him for just one reason—on his Instagram profile, I saw that he considered Rahul Gandhi his role model.
If someone considers a Loser…

Reddy questioned the intelligence of someone who considers a person she described as a “serial loser” to be a role model. She further alleged that such a person would pass on what she described as “slavery, anti-national and anti-Hindu” thinking to his children.
She said that, for her, the country and her “Sanatan Dharma” were more important than money, appearance or a successful career.
“As a proud nationalist Hindu, I can never accept such a person as my life partner,” she wrote.
