Vijay Once Mocked ‘Bottle-Ku Pathu Rooba’; Chaos Erupts At Mayiladuthurai TASMAC Shop After Youth Questions Extra ₹10 Charge, Gold Chain Reportedly Cut

When TN CM Joseph Vijay sang the ‘bottleukku 10 rooba’ mocking DMK minister Senthil Balaji, everyone clapped. But now, the same TASMAC under Joseph Vijay government is charging that 10 rupees over again. A tense situation unfolded at a TASMAC liquor outlet in Mayiladuthurai district after a youth allegedly questioned the illegal collection of an extra ₹10 per liquor bottle at a government-run shop in Moovalur village.

According to reports, the incident took place at TASMAC shop number 5772 near Mayiladuthurai, where customers allegedly continued to be charged above the government-fixed liquor price despite recent warnings issued by the Tamil Nadu government and TASMAC administration.

A verbal altercation reportedly broke out after a youth objected to the additional charge and demanded that the extra money collected per bottle be returned.

The argument escalated further, leading to tension and commotion near the outlet. Several youths who had come to purchase liquor allegedly surrounded the shop and engaged in heated arguments with the employees.

The TASMAC outlet was temporarily shut down following the confrontation before reopening nearly half an hour later after the situation calmed down.

Police later reached the spot and began an inquiry into the incident.

Tamil Janam reported that during the altercation, one of the TASMAC employees allegedly grabbed and cut the gold chain worn by the youth involved in the argument. However, the News Tamil report focused primarily on the dispute over the extra ₹10 collection and the resulting commotion, without specifically mentioning the chain-cutting allegation.

Videos related to the incident have since gone viral on social media.

The controversy comes days after Chief Minister Joseph Vijay announced action against irregularities in TASMAC operations, including the closure of 717 liquor outlets located near schools, temples, bus stands and crowded public areas.

The TASMAC administration had also warned that strict action would be taken against employees and supervisors if liquor bottles were sold above the officially fixed price.

Despite those warnings, allegations of TASMAC shops collecting an additional ₹10 per bottle reportedly continue in several rural areas.

Reports also pointed to a similar incident that allegedly took place about a week earlier at a TASMAC outlet in the Akkur Mukkoodu area of Tharangambadi taluk, where customers accused staff of illegally collecting excess charges per bottle.

Police are continuing their investigation into the latest Mayiladuthurai incident.
