VCK chief Thol. Thirumavalavan’s appearance in a car bearing the registration number “TN 07 CM 2031” has triggered a political and social media controversy, with questions now being raised over the authenticity of the registration number.
Thirumavalavan arrived at a private television event held at EVP Film City in the Semmancheri/Sembarambakkam area near Poonamallee on September 20. He was seen travelling in a car displaying the number TN 07 CM 2031. The unusual registration immediately drew attention, particularly because “CM 2031” can be read as a reference to the Chief Minister’s post and the 2031 Tamil Nadu Assembly election.

The number also gained political significance amid the VCK’s current association with the TVK-led government and its participation in the Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance led by TVK.
The appearance has therefore triggered speculation on social media over whether the “CM 2031” number was intended to project Thirumavalavan as a potential Chief Ministerial contender for 2031.

But Is ‘TN 07 CM 2031’ Actually Registered To The Car?
The controversy took a new turn after reports claimed that TN 07 CM 2031 is not registered to a car at all.
According to a Dinamani report which cited a search on the government’s Parivahan vehicle-registration database, the registration number is associated with a Honda Dio two-wheeler, reportedly registered in 2018.
This has led to questions over how the number came to be displayed on the car in which Thirumavalavan was travelling.
Reports have also raised questions over the ownership of the vehicle. The car is reportedly not owned by Thirumavalavan and is said to belong to a supporter accompanying him. If the number was indeed improperly displayed on the car, questions could arise over who was responsible for using the registration number and whether any action could follow.
At this stage, however, the available reports establish the discrepancy between the number displayed on the car and the vehicle associated with that number in the Parivahan records; they do not establish who put the number plate on the car or whether Thirumavalavan himself was aware of any registration irregularity.
The choice of “CM 2031” has also reminded people of the cinematic reference involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
In Vijay’s film GOAT, a car bearing a “CM 2026” number plate featured prominently. The number was widely noticed because it coincided with the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election and Vijay’s political ambitions.
