Tamil Nadu Minister and VCK leader Vanni Arasu has spoken about his family’s religious beliefs in a television programme, claiming that his father was an atheist who did not believe in God. However, photographs shared by Vanni Arasu himself in 2021 show his father’s funeral being conducted in a coffin, following Christian traditions.
In the television programme, Vanni Arasu gives viewers a glimpse of his house, where a photograph of Jesus is displayed on the wall alongside a photograph of him taken after his release from prison.
Explaining the presence of the Jesus photograph, he says that it was his mother who placed it there. He describes his father as a strict man who was not a believer and did not believe in the existence of God. According to Vanni Arasu, his father permitted the photograph to remain in the house only because his mother wanted it there.

However, the account raises questions when viewed alongside the photographs of his father’s funeral that Vanni Arasu had shared publicly in November 2021.
We had previously reported on these photographs noting that Vanni Arasu had shared images of his father Rathinasamy’s burial in 2021. The photographs showed the funeral being conducted according to Christian customs, with the body placed in a coffin.

This is not the first time Vanni Arasu’s family’s association with Christianity has attracted attention. We have also reported on his participation in Christian community events and his remarks at a Tamil Nadu Christian Churches Federation gathering on June 9, 2026, where he referred to Jesus as “our Jesus”, quoted the Bible and supported the demand that Dalit converts to Christianity retain Scheduled Caste reservation benefits.
