TVK Leader Nanjil Sampath Attacked With Chair, Injured After Allegedly Using Abusive Words Against DMK During Debate

A heated altercation reportedly broke out during a debate programme organised by Behindwoods in Chennai’s Mogappair area, after remarks made by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) representative Nanjil Sampath allegedly triggered a confrontation among those present, as per an Indian Express Tamil report.

OneIndia Tamil reported that Nanjil Sampath allegedly used abusive language while criticising the DMK.

The incident reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, with a chair allegedly being thrown at Sampath and hitting him on the head. The debate was subsequently stopped midway amid the tense situation.

Representatives of several political parties were participating in the debate, with Sampath representing the ruling TVK. During the discussion, Sampath reportedly launched a strong attack against the DMK and allegedly used an abusive term against members of the party.

The remarks reportedly triggered a heated argument between Sampath and DMK participants at the venue. DMK supporters objected to the language used by Sampath and questioned how such abusive remarks could be made in a political debate.

As tensions escalated, DMK supporters reportedly raised slogans against Sampath. At one point, a person in the audience allegedly picked up a chair and threw it towards Sampath. The chair reportedly struck him on the head, causing a commotion at the venue.

Videos purportedly showing the incident have since circulated on social media.

The confrontation created a tense situation in the debate hall, with the possibility of further clashes between the two groups. The organisers subsequently halted the programme midway.

Police personnel present at the venue reportedly intervened to control the situation and attempted to restrain the DMK supporters. However, tensions continued for some time, with participants reportedly continuing to raise slogans over Sampath’s alleged remarks.

DMK participant Rajeev Gandhi was also reported to have intervened and attempted to pacify party supporters at the venue. The situation subsequently began to calm down.
