Saudi Arabia organizes first Yoga festival

The kingdom of Saudi Arabia Saudi Yoga Committee organised its first-ever yoga festival that was held on Bay La Sun Beach and around 1,000 yoga practitioners from the country participated.

The event was held at Juman Park on the shores of King Abdullah Economic City. Many young girls and women enthusiastically participated in it.

Nouf Almarawai, 1st Saudi Yogacharya and Padmashri Awardee and president of the Saudi Yoga Committee said, “The 1st Yoga Festival in Saudi Arabia @yoga_ksa in @kaec_saudi today a big number of people participated in the event. We reached our capacity today.

She also said she was overwhelmed by the number of visitors and the energetic, positive response and how yoga had become an increasingly widespread therapy deployed to maintain wellness and alleviate a range of health problems and ailments.

In her address to the visitors Almarawai said, “The festival was a great success and I am happy that not only Saudis welcomed but also embraced our thoughts on yoga, which was the sole purpose of the event,” she told Arab News. “We want to promote yoga to families and encourage it in the country. We want Saudis to start their day with yoga, which does not take more than 20 minutes a day, which anyone can easily spare,”.

Many workshops and activities were organised by the yoga halls and centers, who offered services to attend and train people on yoga exercises, competition, and meditation in the open air.

In an interview with Al-Arabiya.net, Saudi Yoga Committee’s chief Nouf bint Muhammad Al-Maroui said, “The passion of this sport was the reason for its spread in various parts of the kingdom two decades ago.”

Yoga dates back thousands of years in India and now this ancient practice that increases mental, and spiritual wellbeing along with posture-based physical fitness, stress-relief, and relaxation technique has found a large base in Saudi Arabia after the Ministry of Sports launched a license for such gyms.
