Proceeds from auction of PM Modi’s mementos to go towards Namami Gange mission

On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, the Ministry of Culture is organising an e-auction of gifts and mementos received by him to mark his birthday, today, 17 September and proceeds from this e-auction will go towards the Namami Gange Mission.

Some of the items on the e-auction for people to bid for are a replica of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir, the Chardham, the Rudraksha Convention Centre, and models of important buildings, sculptures, works of visual art, and souvenirs that PM had received from the visiting dignitaries during the last two years.

As per reports, there are 1,300 items for auction and one of the most interesting items is the javelin thrown by Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra and Lovlina Borgohain’s boxing gloves. Also, other sports memorabilia that were presented to Modi on 16 August by the Indian athletes who participated in the Tokyo Olympics will be up for grabs.

Athletes who participated at the Tokyo Paralympic Games also shared their memorabilia worth PM Modi when they met him. This includes T-shirt worn by shooter Avani Lakhera.

As per a report, the Ministry of Culture has said “the base price of the javelin is expected to be around Rs 75 lakh, and that they are expecting it to fetch above crores and Lovlina Borgohain’s boxing gloves have a base price of Rs 80 lakh.”

The last auction was held in September 2019 when 2,770 items went under the hammer which included works of art, sculpture, shawls, jackets, angavastrams, and traditional musical instruments.
