Kanchipuram Resident Accuses Former DMK Minister's Relative Of Land Grab, Alleges Police Inaction

A resident of Kanchipuram has alleged sustained police inaction and political interference in an ongoing land dispute, claiming that repeated complaints over the past five years have failed to elicit any action despite the submission of documentary and video evidence.

M. Sakthikumar, a resident of Kanchipuram, said the dispute pertains to ancestral property located in Walajabad, where a civil suit (O.S. No. 163 of 2020) is currently pending before the court. According to him, he has been carrying on business on the property while awaiting the outcome of the legal proceedings.

Sakthikumar alleged that his paternal uncle Mari, Prakash, his father Mohan and other relatives have been attempting to encroach upon and sell the disputed property despite the matter being sub judice.

He further alleged that a person identified as Saravanan, whom he described as a trustee of the Kundrathur Murugan Temple under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department, has repeatedly dumped loads of soil on the land during the night in an attempt to take possession of the property.

According to Sakthikumar, Saravanan allegedly approached him on multiple occasions, offering to purchase his share of the land. However, he claimed that he refused the offer, stating that the property would be divided only through the court process.

“We told them we do not want to sell our share. The case is pending before the court and we will abide by whatever the court decides. Even after that, they continue dumping soil on the land at night,” he alleged.

Sakthikumar claimed that despite lodging several complaints with the Walajabad Police Station over the past five years, no meaningful action has been taken. He alleged that his relatives had also intimidated workers employed on the property, set fire to portions of the land, damaged surveillance cameras and committed thefts, all of which, he said, had been supported by video footage, photographs and other evidence submitted to the police.

He further alleged that the police neither registered his complaints nor issued Community Service Register (CSR) receipts despite repeated requests.

“We have given video evidence, CCTV footage, photographs and even produced court orders before the police. But no action has been taken. They have not even issued a CSR copy for our complaints,” he claimed.

Referring to a recent incident, Sakthikumar alleged that when he informed the police about fresh dumping of soil on the property, officers merely asked him to submit another written complaint but did not visit the site or initiate action.

Dissatisfied with the police response, Sakthikumar said he approached the office of the Superintendent of Police seeking intervention. According to him, the matter was subsequently referred to the Additional Superintendent of Police, following which the Deputy Superintendent of Police was instructed to conduct an inquiry.

His family has also submitted complaints through the Chief Minister’s grievance redressal portal, alleging threats to their lives and continued intimidation by unidentified persons.

Sakthikumar further alleged that Saravanan was acting as a benami on behalf of Tamil Nadu Minister T.M. Anbarasan and his relatives. He claimed Saravanan repeatedly attempted to persuade him to part with the property by offering money and allegedly warned that the family would otherwise never be able to enjoy or develop the land.

“They keep coming to our house with people, asking us to take money and sell the property. They tell us that otherwise we will never be able to use the land. Because of these threats, we fear for our lives,” he alleged.

He also accused his relatives and others of repeatedly trespassing onto the property, assaulting workers, damaging surveillance cameras and creating disturbances with alleged political backing.

Appealing for intervention, Sakthikumar urged the district police to ensure a fair inquiry into the matter and sought protection for his family, expressing hope that the new state government would help resolve the long-pending dispute.
