An undated video of Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has resurfaced amid allegations of sexual harassment against him by 11 women students at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
In the video, Akoijam is heard speaking about stereotypes surrounding women from the Northeast and their choice of clothing.
“If the spaghettis and hot pants, mini skirts and all these things were only worn by girls and women from the north east, many of the shops and boutiques in Delhi and metropolitan cities in this country would have gone bankrupt long time back. We must know that everybody wears it. But you will have a specific stereotype on girls and women from the northeast.”

The remarks were made during a press conference, though the exact date of the video is not clear.
Akoijam, who is currently a Congress MP, has now been accused of sexual harassment by 11 women students at JNU. The allegations relate to his conduct as a professor at the university.
The resurfacing of the video comes as the allegations against the Congress leader have drawn attention to his past public statements and conduct.
