Healthcare budget increased by 137 per cent, ₹35k crores allotted for COVID-19 vaccination

Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman has made a huge announcement in her historic ‘never before’ budget, where she has allocated ₹35,000 crores for the COVID-19 vaccination drive for the Financial Year 2021-22. She added that more funds will be allocated if required because the government is fully committed to overcome the coronavirus pandemic.

India, which is known for its poor health infrastructure, got a major boost when the FM Sitharaman announced that the total budget outlay for the healthcare sector will stand at ₹2.23 lakh crore for Financial Year 2021-22.

It must be noted that this will be an increase of 137 per cent as compared to the last year.

So far India has vaccinated 37 lakh healthcare workers as of 15 January and by midyear, it plans to vaccinate 30 crore high-risk groups drive against COVID-19 which includes healthcare workers, frontline workers and the elderly and those with any comorbidities.
