Govt Of India Bans Radical Islamist Outfit PFI For 5 Years

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has banned the radical Islamist outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) for a period of 5 years for its alleged links to terror funding.

The action comes days after multiple raids across the country and arrests by the central agencies.

PFI’s associate organisations – Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala – have also been banned.

The notification of the MHA states that the Central Government is of the opinion that it is necessary for it to exercise powers under section 3 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act due to several reasons including some of its activists joining the ISIS.

PFI cadres have been involved in several terrorist acts including murder of Shri Sanjith, Shri Praveen Nettaru, Shri Sasi Kumar, Shri Praveen Pujari, Shri Nandu, Shri V. Ramalingam, Shri Sharath, Shri R Rudresh, Shri Bibin, the MHA notification said.

“PFI and its associates working covertly to increase radicalization of one community by promoting a sense of insecurity in the country”, read the MHA notification.
