DMK’s Double Standards: DMK that once opposed Electoral Bonds has earned ₹80 cr through them in 2021

A recent finding shows that the DMK party had received almost ₹80 crores of revenue, through electoral bonds in the year 2021. ₹11 lakhs of it have been accounted for as Membership fee. The membership fee is only ₹2 per member. This means that the party does not have more than 6 lakh members.

Many donations have come from top corporate companies in this list. For example, a company called SNJ Sugars and Products have given the party a donations of ₹6 crores. Some have also come from individuals. It is to be noted that when Electoral Bonds were introduced by the Modi led BJP government, DMK was one of the first parties to reject the scheme. P Thiaga Rajan, who was the DMK IT Wing head, back then in 2017, gave an interview in which he said, “Electoral Bonds are a way for BJP to get involved in legal money laundering.”
