The Madras High Court has directed the police to file a report on the inquiry conducted into a complaint against former DMK Minister Anitha Radhakrishnan, alleging that land belonging to a church was registered using forged documents and subsequently mortgaged to obtain a bank loan, as reported in Dina Mani.
The complaint was filed by Veeraselvam, a resident of Sivaramangalam in Thoothukudi district. In his petition before the Madras High Court, he alleged that Radhakrishnan, during his tenure as a Minister between 2001 and 2006, had, along with a person named Subbiah, fraudulently dealt with land belonging to the St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Veerapandiyapuram.
According to the petitioner, the property is located behind the Tiruchendur Government Hospital. He alleged that a forged power of attorney was submitted for the registration of the property and that the transaction was carried out by undervaluing the land against its guideline value.
The petitioner further alleged that the property registered through the allegedly forged documents was later mortgaged with a bank to obtain a loan, resulting in further fraud.
Veeraselvam stated that he had submitted a complaint before the Tiruchendur police on August 14 in connection with the alleged offences. However, he alleged that no action had been taken on the complaint so far.
He therefore approached the High Court seeking directions to the police to register a case based on his complaint, conduct an investigation and take appropriate action.
The petition came up for hearing before Justice V. Lakshminarayanan on Tuesday.
During the hearing, the police informed the court that an inquiry was being conducted into the complaint.
Taking note of the submission, Justice Lakshminarayanan directed the police to file a report on the inquiry conducted into the complaint within two weeks.
The court thereafter adjourned the hearing.
