BJP leader H Raja criticised the TVK government over the conduct of a temple consecration ceremony, alleging that devotees were kept away from the temple while a Muslim MLA was allowed to climb and sit atop the temple tower.
Raja was referring to Madurai MLA Mustafa’s reported presence atop the temple tower during the ceremony. He questioned the administration’s treatment of Hindu religious practices and contrasted it with the rules applicable to foreign visitors seeking entry into temples.
“It is regrettable that a consecration ceremony was conducted using a bureaucracy disconnected from the public, effectively barring people from even getting close to the temple. Furthermore, consider the rules: if a foreigner wishes to enter the temple, they must wear Hindu religious symbols and sign a register declaring their faith in Hinduism. Given this context, the fact that an MLA from the Muslim community climbed up and sat atop the temple tower without providing any such undertaking clearly demonstrates how poorly the administration treats the Hindu religion. Look at the throngs of devotees arriving today; we will certainly convey to each of them how the current Tamil Nadu government is acting in an anti-Hindu manner.”
