A 27-year-old gym coach, identified as Imthias Sheriff from Otteri, was arrested by the Secretariat Colony police after allegedly sharing photographs of himself with a college student on social media following the end of their relationship, as reported in Deccan Chronicle.
According to the police, Sheriff worked as a gym coach, where he met the woman, a third-year college student, in 2024. The two subsequently entered into a relationship.
However, the woman later decided to end the relationship after allegedly finding Sheriff’s behaviour unacceptable. Following the breakup, Sheriff allegedly pressured her to resume contact with him.
Police said Sheriff threatened to kill himself when the woman stopped speaking to him. He later allegedly threatened to publish photographs of the two of them on social media if she continued to refuse to speak with him.
The situation reportedly escalated on September 28, when Sheriff allegedly intercepted the woman while she was on her way to college. He allegedly abused and assaulted her before leaving the spot.
Sheriff subsequently shared a photograph of himself with the woman in a WhatsApp group, according to the complaint.
The woman then approached the Secretariat Colony police and lodged a complaint against Sheriff. Following an investigation, the police arrested him on Sunday.
The accused was subsequently taken into custody in connection with the complaint, and further investigation is underway.
GYM COACH ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT, SHARING STUDENT’S PHOTO ON A WHATSAPP GROUP
A 27-year-old gym coach was arrested for harassing a 19-year-old college student, assaulting her and sharing her intimate photograph in a WhatsApp group in Chennai.
The student, a resident of the Kilpauk police district, met Imtiaz Sheriff at a gym in 2024 and developed a relationship with him. She later tried to distance herself after he behaved inappropriately.
Police said Sheriff threatened to die by suicide to pressure her into continuing contact with him. He later obtained an intimate photograph of the woman and used it to threaten her.
On Sept. 28, the sheriff intercepted the woman while she was on her way to college, verbally abused and assaulted her, and demanded that she comply with his wishes. He then shared her intimate photograph in a WhatsApp group of which she was a member.
The woman lodged a complaint with the Secretariat Colony police. Police registered a case and arrested Sheriff, a resident of Otteri, on Friday and seized the mobile phone used to share the photograph. He was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
