Alleged journalist Ravish Kumar wants you to believe he is a one-man newsroom stretched too thin to cover every student protest in the country. That’s the excuse he gave while addressing the Jharkhand agitation against the JPSC and JSSC – students who have been on hunger strike, facing raids, demanding a CBI probe into exam paper leaks that have wrecked their futures. His response: he simply doesn’t have “that much resources” to cover every state. This is the same person who covered extensively on the Cockroach protests and other remotely relevant topics like Israel-Gaza conflict and Iran war.
He says, “We YouTubers can’t cover every exam issue and movement in every state. I’ve been saying this in my videos for years, not just today.”

It’s a convenient line. It just doesn’t hold up against his own body of work.
The Man Who “Can’t Cover Every Protest” Found Six Videos in Five Days for Iran
When Israel and Iran went to war in June 2025, Ravish Kumar wasn’t short on bandwidth. According to a report by OpIndia, he put out six videos in five days on the conflict. One of those videos was built entirely around Ayatollah Khamenei’s death, framing it explicitly as “shahadat” (martyrdom) and drawing comparisons to religious sacrifice. Across the series, he repeatedly cast America and Israel as the aggressors and questioned why the Modi government wasn’t condemning the strikes.
That is not a man conserving resources. That is a man making editorial choices about which stories deserve his prime-time attention and which don’t.
He Found Time for Gaza in October 2023. He Couldn’t Find Time for Ranchi in 2026.
Ravish Kumar’s sympathies here aren’t new. Back in October 2023, days after the Hamas attack on Israel, he questioned on-air who the “real” victim in the conflict was, suggesting that global support for Israel somehow disqualified it from being seen as one.
That’s a specific, documented moment – not a running years-long Gaza beat, to be fair. But it establishes the pattern: when a foreign conflict offers a clean villain in America or Israel, Ravish Kumar finds the airtime. When Jharkhand’s students, his own audience, in his own country, protesting a system he says he’s championed for years, needed a journalist willing to show up, the resources that were available for Tehran in 2025 and Tel Aviv in 2023 ran dry for Ranchi in 2026.
Here’s a look at the number of videos he has put out on the Iran-Israel war, the Israel-Gaza conflict – more than the Bihar election videos! He had time to report on the Bihar elections – he made 74 videos but did not have time to cover the protests which are ironically happening in the same state.
The Irony He Is Selectively Blind To
Here’s what makes this harder to defend: Ravish Kumar spent a large part of his own account of the Jharkhand protest reminding viewers that he ran a dedicated “Prime Time Job Series” at NDTV reportedly over 50 episodes, covering recruitment exam scams years before anyone else in mainstream media touched the subject. He name-drops his own history covering the JPSC as far back as 2019.
He built his credibility on being the one journalist willing to sit with an unglamorous, resource-heavy beat that “Godi Media” ignored. And yet, in the very same breath, he tells Jharkhand’s students that the same constraints he criticizes legacy television for – selective coverage driven by convenience rather than public interest, now apply to him too.
If six videos on Khamenei in five days were possible, if a running commentary on Gaza across years was possible, then “we don’t have that much resources” for a protest with hunger strikes in his own backyard isn’t a logistics problem. It’s a priorities problem.
Geopolitics Is Easier Than Accountability at Home
There’s a simpler explanation than resource scarcity: foreign conflicts generate views without requiring uncomfortable follow-up. Commentary on Khamenei or Netanyahu doesn’t demand Ravish Kumar hold Hemant Soren’s government or the Congress-JMM coalition he has been notably gentler with, to the same standard he applies to the BJP.
Students protesting a state paper-leak scandal in Ranchi are asking hard, specific, local questions that require sustained, uncomfortable coverage. Iran and Gaza commentary, however sympathetic to whichever side, requires none of that same accountability.
Ravish Kumar built his brand attacking Indian television for choosing spectacle over substance. When it came to Jharkhand’s students, he had every opportunity to prove that brand meant something. Instead, he offered the same tired excuse he’s spent a career mocking others for using.
