Woke leftist singer TM Krishna who turned a DMK lackey a while ago got a taste of his ‘patrons’ and their followers following the Udhayanidhi vulgar remarks against actor Trisha issue.
On 3 August 2026, DMK scion Udhayanidhi Stalin sparked a controversy during a DMK-organised protest over the Cauvery water issue after remarks made during his speech which comes across as a double entendre involving actor Trisha.
Addressing the gathering, Udhayanidhi criticised Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, saying, “… but today not one drop of water has come. Is the chief minister of the state opening his mouth about this? Has he said anything about this? He is not speaking. What is his only worry? When it comes to the DMK, his only worry is to think about what false case against us. Whether water comes to us or not, it must reach ‘there’. I was talking about Cauvery water.”
As he was making the remarks, sections of the crowd began chanting “Trisha, Trisha,” in an apparent reference to actor Trisha. After the chants, Udhayanidhi smiled before adding, “I was talking about Cauvery water,” and continued with his speech.
Following this, many outraged on social media. The Joseph Vijay government even went on to arrest him for the remarks (without detention). He was taken to Thanjavur on 4 August 2026 for enquiry.
On 4 August 2026, in response to the remarks, Krishna wrote, “Udhayanidhi Stalin’s words are Undefendable. Excuses, such as ‘did not intend to hurt’ do not cut it. An unconditional apology is needed. The threshold for public conduct needs to be very high. Why is it so difficult for politicians to say sorry, I made a mistake ?”
But the same ecosystem that lauded him for belittling his own community, attacked him for his Brahmin identity. Here are a few comments to his post.

To prove his loyalty to the Dravidianist ecsystem, Krishna indulged in several acts that would even test the loyalty of a generational Dravidianist, EVR follower. Here are a few:
In January 2025, TM Krishna performed a song glorifying Dravidian ideologue EV Ramasamy (EVR, hailed as Periyar by his followers). The then-Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated the event at 18 locations across Chennai, showcasing performances from over 1,300 artists from six states.
Krishna’s rendition, staged at the inaugural event, came across as a thinly veiled political act. Clad in a lungi and black shirt, Krishna sang an ode to EVR, emphasizing his so-called “fiery eyes” and “tiger-like voice,” glorifying a man infamous for his inflammatory rhetoric. The audience quickly identified the subject of the song as ‘Periyar‘, shouting his name repeatedly, drawing applause from Stalin.
He even sang a song titled “Sindhikka Sonnavar Periyar,” which means “EVR told us to think,” in contrast to what EV Ramasamy Naicker told his Dravidar Kazhagam followers. Ironically, the same EVR called for the eradication of the Brahmin community to which TM Krishna belongs.
After being awarded the Sangita Kalanidhi by Music Academy, he ensured the lecdems on various aspects of Indian classical music during his tenure would feature Oppari and Gaana songs which while representing a community’s culture, are also filled with filthy and vulgar meanings for the most part.
Krishna’s criticism of Udhayanidhi Stalin may have been an attempt to uphold basic standards of public conduct, but it also exposed the limits of his acceptance within the very political ecosystem he has long aligned himself with. Despite years of publicly endorsing Dravidian politics and distancing himself from his own community, sections of the DMK’s support base chose to respond not to his argument, but to his Brahmin identity, demonstrating how quickly ideological allies can turn when dissent comes from within.
