The Wire Peddles False Info Claiming Voter Discrepancy In 2024 Maharashtra Elections Omitting Postal Ballot Counts

Manufactured Mayhem: How A Fabricated Story Of 5 Lakh 'Missing' Votes By The Wire Spread Like Wildfire

An article published by The Wire on alleged mismatches between the votes polled and votes counted during the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024 has raised eyebrows for its inaccuracies and misrepresentation of facts. The report claims that constituencies like Ashti and Osmanabad showed significant discrepancies, with “additional” votes counted beyond the polled turnout figures. The article says, “The greatest discrepancies were noted in the Ashti constituency, where 4,538 more votes were counted than polled, and in the Osmanabad constituency, where the difference was 4,155 votes.”

However, a closer examination of the Election Commission of India (ECI) data debunks this claim.

What The Wire Reported

The Wire alleges that the number of votes counted exceeded the voter turnout in Ashti and Osmanabad constituencies, citing discrepancies of 4,538 and 4,155 votes respectively. The article goes on to suggest that these mismatches reflect broader systemic issues and calls for increased transparency in the electoral process.

Postal Ballots Explain Numbers

The so-called “discrepancies” in Ashti and Osmanabad are easily explained by the inclusion of postal votes, which The Wire completely ignored in its analysis.

Ashti Constituency

    • Votes Polled (ECI Turnout Data): Matches the total EVM votes recorded during polling.
    • Additional Votes Claimed by The Wire: These are postal ballots, which are counted separately and added to the final tally.

Osmanabad Constituency

    • Votes Polled (ECI Turnout Data): Again matches the total EVM votes.
    • Difference Claimed by The Wire: Also explained by postal votes, which are part of the legally mandated vote count.

By failing to account for postal votes, The Wire has misrepresented the data as discrepancies, misleading its readers and potentially eroding public confidence in the electoral process.

Postal Votes

Postal votes are ballots cast by eligible voters unable to attend polling stations, such as government employees on election duty, armed forces personnel, and certain categories of absentee voters. These votes are counted alongside EVM votes to arrive at the final result. Their inclusion is neither unusual nor problematic but a routine aspect of every election in India.

By neglecting to factor in postal ballots, The Wire has published an article riddled with inaccuracies, fueling unwarranted doubts about the integrity of the electoral process. This undermines trust in the democratic system, particularly at a time when transparency and faith in institutions are paramount.

The Election Commission of India has consistently maintained transparency in its procedures. Detailed vote count data, including postal votes, is made available to candidates and their representatives. Misinterpreting or selectively presenting this data, as seen in The Wire’s report, does a disservice to public discourse.

The Wire’s claims about vote discrepancies in Maharashtra’s Ashti and Osmanabad constituencies are demonstrably false. The “additional votes” highlighted by the publication correspond to postal ballots, a routine and transparent component of India’s electoral process.

In its eagerness to allege systemic issues, The Wire has overlooked basic facts, casting unwarranted doubt on the integrity of the elections. Responsible journalism demands accuracy, thoroughness, and a commitment to truth. The Election Commission of India deserves scrutiny, but such scrutiny must be rooted in facts, not baseless speculation and necessary action must be taken against The Wire for trying to mainstream lies.

Hindu Makkal Katchi Women’s Wing Files Complaint Against Isaivani & Pa. Ranjith For Song Insulting Lord Ayyappa

The Hindu Makkal Katchi demands action against singer ‘Gaana’ Isaivani and director Pa Ranjith for a song disrespectful to Lord Ayyappan.

The Hindu Makkal Katchi has filed a complaint with the Chennai Police Commissioner’s Office demanding action against singer ‘Gaana’ Isaivani and director Pa Ranjith for performing a song deemed disrespectful to Hindu God Ayyappan during an event hosted by the Neelam Cultural Center.

Hindu Makkal Katchi Women’s Wing State President Sushila Devi has filed a complaint with the Chennai Police Commissioner’s Office, expressing concern over a song circulating on social media. The song, which was performed by Gaana singer Isaivani at an event organized by director Pa. Ranjith’s Neelam Cultural Center, allegedly insults Lord Ayyappa and has deeply offended millions of devotees across India. Sushila Devi claims the lyrics of the song not only hurt the religious sentiments of those who venerate Ayyappa Swamy but also aim to disrupt social harmony and peace. She argues that the song is designed to stir hatred and unrest, particularly among Ayyappa devotees and women devotees, both in Tamil Nadu and throughout the country. She has urged authorities to intervene immediately by banning the song and the organisation by taking appropriate action against those responsible for spreading content that incites violence and disturbs public order.

Speaking to the press later, Sushila Devi strongly condemned Isaivani, stating, “We are severely condemning Isaivani why because she is talking in a disrespectful and offensive comments about Lord Ayyappa. The words she used are intolerable. We have never spoken ill of Christians or Muslims in the same way, I don’t know how it is fair only Hinduism is targeted. We never tell anyone not to go to church or mosque. In fact, we even revere Jesus as one of the 63 Nayanmar saints and worship him. So why is our faith being insulted? Isaivani’s comments against Lord Ayyappa are deeply disparaging. We have filed a complaint, and we expect immediate action to be taken.”

Background

At an event hosted by Pa. Ranjith’s Neelam Cultural Centre in 2020, Isai Vani sang a song targeting Lord Ayyappa and questioning the faith of Ayyappan devotees, with the line, “I am sorry Ayyappa” instigating women to enter the temple of the celibate Hindu god.

The lyrics of song goes like this:

I’m sorry Ayyappa,

What’s wrong if I enter pa?

This is not the age-old times to restrain us by terrorising,

I am the granddaughter of the beard man (referring to EV Ramasamy Naicker hailed as ‘Periyar’ by his followers)

Times have changed now

If you keep us away saying ‘theetu’ (untouchable)

I’ll progress like a ‘mass’

Whether it is jeans pant or saree, I’ll decide

Whether nurse or doctor, I’ll tell for myself after I grow up

Whether I’m single or committed, it’s my decision

I’ve the courage to hit back

Whether Sports or Dappankutthu, I’ll handle it if you let me free

If you extend a dupatta, shall I spit on your rituals?

I’m sorry Ayyappa

What’s wrong if I enter pa?

What’s this new confusion?

What if we enter breaking the barriers?

If you don’t give the rights, we’ll snatch it

If we don’t snatch it, we’ll lose it

The sky is near

If we study, everything is in our pocket

What’s the secret in birth?

If they don’t open the doors, we should break it open

Should she stand feeling shy? Should she keep bindi?

Should I get trapped at the hands of a monkey after studying hard?

My life is for me, why are you sad?

Why should I give my freedom to someone else?

I should choose my life partner myself

There’s self-respect, why should I be worried?

I’m sorry Ayyappa

What’s wrong if I enter pa?

This is not the age-old times to restrain us by terrorising.

As the song circulated online, outrage grew among netizens calling for action against the singer and Pa Ranjith for disrespecting Hindu god Ayyappan and Ayyappa devotees.

Critics highlighted the disparity in how the authorities handled similar incidents, referencing actress Kasthuri Shankar’s arrest for her remarks in Hyderabad. They demanded to know if Isai Vani would face similar consequences for insulting not only Hindu gods but also the devotees observing a 48-day fast known as Vratha.

In response to the situation, a formal complaint has been lodged at the Mettupalayam police station against Isai Vani and director Pa Ranjith. The complaint, filed by Ayyappa devotees, accuses them of belittling the Hindu god and undermining traditional worship practices, as well as targeting the Neelam Cultural Center for organizing the event.

It is noteworthy that the same Isaivani has also sung in praise of Jesus Christ several times. A song titled “Yesuvai Ni Vittu Pogadhe” which literally translates to “do not leave Jesus” was also sung by her. The songs literally preach the listener to not go in the “wrong path” insinuating other religions as “Satan’s path”.

Isaivani was also contestant in Bigg Boss Tamil Season 5. She was also featured on the British Broadcasting Corporation’s (BBC) ‘100 Women 2020’.

Pa. Ranjith is a rabid anti-Hindu Dravidianist filmmaker who had shot to fame using Rajinikanth by directing films like Kabali and Kaala. In Kaala, he subtly weaves anti-Hindu sentiments, portraying Hinduism and its symbols as inherently oppressive. The movie’s villains are given distinctly Hindu names, reinforcing negative stereotypes associated with the religion. In his recent flop film Thangalaan, he pedled the usual Dravidianist stereotyping of Brahmins as vile and cunning, de-Hindufying village deities, references to the Varna system, Vishnu, Buddha, Saint Ramanuja, Christianity, and Islamist tyrant Tipu Sultan.  In the film Attakathi, he even had dialogues that positioned pre-marital sex as a sort of achievement.

Dad Not A Sanghi, But Daughter A DMK Darling? Aishwarya Rajinikanth’s Closeness To DMK’s Kanimozhi Raises Questions

Dad Not A Sanghi, But Daughter A DMK Darling? Aishwarya Rajinikanth's Closeness To DMK's Kanimozhi Raises Questions

Aishwarya Rajinikanth, who once asserted her father Rajinikanth isn’t a “Sanghi,” recently made waves at a fan meet, revealing her close bond with DMK MP Kanimozhi. During an interview, Aishwarya’s surprise entry led her to speak about their 20-year relationship, calling Kanimozhi her “temple guide” and drawing parallels between their respective fields of cinema and politics.

Rajinikanth Not A Sanghi

At the audio launch of her directorial venture Lal Salaam (which sank without a trace), Aishwarya Rajinikanth famously stated that her father was not a “Sanghi.”

She said, People label my father as a sanghi. I want to assert here that Rajinikanth is not a sanghi. He wouldn’t have been a part of “Lal Salaam” if he were.

After “proving” her dad is not a “Sanghi”, she recently proved she is a DMK fan, or did she?

In a fan meet programme titled Kanimozhi Ennum Naan, presented by the IBC Tamil channel, Aishwarya Rajinikanth surprised the host by appearing during the interview with DMK MP Kanimozhi.

Kanimozhi mentioned that Aishwarya was like a “sister” to her. She praised her for being affectionate and being there for her during tough times. She further said, “At a time when I asked her father not to make his political entry, she told me she wanted to join me for my campaign.”

At this point, Aishwarya enters and says, “I only go to meet her. I usually don’t go anywhere but for akka (sister) I will go anywhere.”

Aishwarya then described her 20-year-old relationship with Kanimozhi, saying, “If I am leaving my house and coming to such a place for someone, it means that they mean so much to me. This proves our relationship.”

She further described Kanimozhi’s political journey as, “From her birth, she has been in a political background. Let’s not reduce her political career to 18/20 years. We both are similar – like fish in water and fish in the ocean. For me, it is cinema, for her it is politics.”

Describing Kanimozhi as her “temple guide”, she said, “She doesn’t believe in God, but she is my temple guide. Wherever I go, it is her people who accompany me.”

DMK-Organized Event Forces Students In Tenkasi School To Stand Under Sun To Wish DMK Scion & Dy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin For Birthday

DMK-Organized Event Forces Students In Tenkasi School To Stand Under Sun To Wish DMK Scion & Dy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin For Birthday

A video has gone viral on social media that shows school students being made to stand in the middle of a playground under the scorching sun, reportedly forced to wish DMK scion and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on his 48th birthday. The event, organized by DMK functionaries within the school premises, has sparked significant criticism against Tamil Nadu Education Minister Anbil Mahesh, with many calling it an inappropriate use of students for political purposes.

In Tenkasi, a sports competition was organized under the pretext of promoting activities like yoga and skating, to mark the 48th birthday of Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. The event, which saw the participation of 2,000 students, was part of a series of celebrations across Tamil Nadu organized by DMK cadres in honor of Udhayanidhi Stalin’s birthday on the 27th.

The controversial sports competition was held at Syed School, located on the way to Aintharuvi in Tenkasi district, and was presided over by V. Jayabalan, the DMK’s Tenkasi South District In-charge. The event was inaugurated by Kalai Kathiravan, the Tenkasi Legislative Assembly Constituency In-charge.

Among the events were a yoga competition, aimed at raising awareness about traditional Tamil practices, which saw participation from 1,000 students. Additionally, a skating competition was held, with schoolchildren enthusiastically taking part. All students who participated in the events were awarded shields and prize certificates.

The event was attended by several DMK functionaries, including District Youth Union Organizer Krishnaraja, Union Secretaries Aghajusundaram, MPM Anbazhagan, and others, as well as local political leaders such as Surandai City Secretary A.G. Ganesan, Ilanji Town Panchayat Chairman Chinnathai, and Perur Secretaries A. Sudalai and Rajarajan. Additionally, it is alleged that the DMK cadres arrived late to the event, causing the students to wait for an extended period in the scorching sun on the ground.

However, the event has sparked significant controversy. Despite previous statements from Education Minister Anbil Mahesh, who had emphasized keeping schools free of political activities, DMK cadres were allowed into the school premises. During the event, students were reportedly made to wish Udhayanidhi Stalin in advance of his birthday, leading to widespread criticism and raising questions about the politicization of educational institutions.

In response to the incident, the BJP State President for the Startup Cell has strongly condemned the matter. He issued a statement through his official X account, stating, “Why is this ok, Hon @TNSchoolEduDept minister @Anbil_Mahesh ? Torturing 1000s of kids to please your boss?Do you want to make thousands of students stand for hours in the scorching sun to wish them a happy birthday, Mr. Udhayanidhi? Is that Birthday wish that important to you @Udhaystalin ? #tenkasi #school #kids #torture. On the occasion of the birthday of Deputy Principal Udhayanidhi at a private school on Aindaruvi Road in Tenkasi district, more than a thousand schoolgirls have been forced to perform yoga in the scorching sun at 12 o’clock to wish him a happy birthday because the @arivalayam functionaries were late.”

2/Lt. G. V. Prasanna Rao: The 22-Year-Old Martyr Who Embodied ‘Seva Paramo Dharma’ In 1962 Indo-China War

2/Lt. G. V. Prasanna Rao: The 22-Year-Old Martyr Who Embodied 'Seva Paramo Dharma' In 1962 Indo-China War

I was in my first year of college in 1993 and was part of the National Cadet Corps (NCC). Our college Army wing had the strength of two companies (A & B) of the 7TN Battalion of NCC, which belonged to the Madurai Group. Being the inquisitive pest I was, I saw a portrait of a gentleman officer in a nondescript corner of the Associated NCC Officer’s (ANO) office. Below the portrait was his name, 2/Lt. G. V. Prasanna Rao, MVC.

Maha Vir Chakra is the second-highest military decoration in India. It has been awarded 219 times so far. MVC has a provision for a Bar, which is the same person getting decorated again with an MVC. So, every time you get decorated with this award, it is counted as a Bar. So far, only six personnel have been awarded one Bar or have been decorated with the MVC the second time. The most prominent person to have been decorated with a Bar on MVC is General Arun Shridar Vaidya – In 1965 (Operation Riddle) and 1971 (the third India-Pakistan war).

The suffix MVC was an instant WOW. My jaws dropped. But who is he? And why is his portrait inside the ANO office in Madura College (Aut), Madurai? I asked the question to my ANO, Lt. K. M. Rajasekaran (later, Major.).

He said two things: 2/Lt. Rao was an alumnus of Madura College (Aut) [confirmation reg course and year awaited] and was awarded (Maha Vir Chakra) MVC during the 1962 Indo-China War. Unfortunately, after this encounter, I didn’t have the resources to dig deeper (the internet came much later).

Triggered By A Social Media Post

The spark got rekindled a few days back when a netizen posted this.

PVC, Operation Pawan, & Tamil Nadu

Major Ramaswamy Parameshwaran is indeed the only Tamil to have been decorated with India’s highest military decoration, the Param Vir Chakra (PVC), during Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka. It is history that only 21 of the bravest of brave have been awarded the PVC, 14 of which were posthumous awards. Incidentally, the first and the twenty-first are posthumous awards during operations in J&K – Major. Somnath Sharma was the first to be decorated with a PVC (posthumous, 1947). The twenty-first was Captain. Vikram Batra during Operation Vijay (Kargil war) in 1999. Trivia: 13 out of 21 awards were for different operations in J&K.

Between 1987-’90, under the mandate of the Indo-Sri Lankan Peace Accord, India sent in a peacekeeping force called the Indian Peacekeeping Force (IPKF) to diffuse tensions between the Sri Lankan Army and the various Tamil groups operating there. Another main agenda was to disarm the Tamil groups. It is history that things didn’t go as planned. Tamil groups, especially the LTTE, took it upon themselves to fight the IPKF, ending in heavy casualties on both sides. While we don’t know about the LTTE, the official figures from the Indian army say that we had 1,165 personnel killed in action (KIA) and another 3,009 wounded. It was during this operation that Major. Parameshwaran of 8 Mahar Regiment was decorated posthumously with India’s highest military honour, the Param Vir Chakra. It is a sad story that we, in India, don’t celebrate our tri-services enough. And it hurts me a lot when many Bahubalis in Tamil Nadu love looking at even the Indian tri-forces through the lens of caste.

It is a shameful truth that in Tamil Nadu, certain anti-India Dravidian forces have a Midas-like touch to turn everything under the sun into a caste issue. One of the most famous questions by these forces is how many Brahmins have served the Indian tri-services and the community’s contribution. While this isn’t a question I wouldn’t even acknowledge, let alone answer, it is a coincidence that the two people who got the two highest military decorations belong to the Brahmin community.

2/Lt. Prasanna Rao’s Madura College (Aut) Connection

2/Lt. G. V. Prasanna Rao was a Coimbatore boy born on 15 October 1940. He grew up in Coimbatore with a passion for joining the Indian Army. After schooling and pre-university (PSG CAS) in Coimbatore, he came to Madurai to join Madura College (Aut), a 135-year-old institution5. He got commissioned in 1962, presumably short service commission (citation required). He joined 4 Grenadiers, an infantry regiment with a rich gallantry history. There are a host of heroes from 4 Grenadiers. CQMH. Abdul Hameed, PVC (Battle of Asal Uttar, 1965) is their most prominent.

Within four months of being commissioned as a 2/Lt, the Indo-China war broke out and 2/Lt. Rao’s unit was deployed in the Khinzemane Sector of the North East Frontier Agency (NEFA), now Arunachal Pradesh and parts of Assam. His was a forward post near the mouth of the Namka Chu River. This unit was asked to withdraw due to the reported Chinese incursions at the Dhola post. Little did the company lead by 2/Lt. Rao knew that the enemy Company had cut off their withdrawal route.

2/Lt. Prasanna Rao’s company was outnumbered and overpowered by the superior Chinese artillery. The Chinese mortar shelling destroyed the channel of the evacuation of Indian troops, a bridge over the Nyamjungchu River. Undaunted, after being cut off from all sides, 2/Lt. Rao and his men fought valiantly. He even took charge of the Light Machine Gun himself and held the post before he was fatally injured and killed in action. He was 22 years old and just four months after being commissioned into the Indian Army. 2/Lt. Prasanna Rao withheld the highest traditions of the Indian army, its motto, “Seva Paramo Dharma”, service before self.  Later, he became the sixty-third recipient of the Maha Vir Chakra (MVC), the second-highest military honour in India.

The Citation Of The Honour Reads…

2/Lt. G. V. P. Rao was in command of a company which was ordered to reinforce the Khinzemane sector in N.E.F.A. by occupying a defended locality at Dhoklong Samba on 12 October 1962.

On 20 October 1962 this defended locality was shelled, and heavily assaulted by an enemy infantry battalion supported by mortars. Although greatly outnumbered this company withstood repeated enemy attacks. No withdrawal was possible because the enemy mortars had destroyed the bridge over the unfordable Nyamjungchu. In spite of being cut off, 2/Lt. G. V. P. Rao continued to fight gallantly. He personally manned a light machine gun and inspired men under his command to hold the position even at the cost of their lives in keeping with the highest traditions of the service thus setting a high example of leadership and courage.

Bringing Back Memories Of 2/Lt. G. V. Prasanna Rao

India, as a country, doesn’t have a great track record of remembering greats. We have been trained to remember only a few greats ‘approved’ by a clique. Though it has changed in the last 12-13 years, we must do more. Expecting the governments to remember and honour greats isn’t an elegant solution. We all need to do our little to make sure the greats who have lost everything, including their lives, to save the honour of Bharat are recognised and respected.

Let us start with knowing the veterans, the greats from our region who have given us everything serving the tri-services and honouring their contributions wherever possible. Two days back, I talked with Dr. J. Suresh, the current Principal of Madura College (Aut), Madurai, about 2/Lt. G. V. Prasanna Rao, MVC. He has promised that the college will take all steps to take the message about this great alumnus, 2/Lt. Rao to the current and next generations. If someone from PSG CAS, Coimbatore, is reading this, please pass this message on to management and ask them to do the needful.

Thiruvalluvar says this when he talks about the self-abandon of the warrior

சுழலும் இசைவேண்டி வேண்டா உயிரார்

கழல்யாப்புக் காரிகை நீர்த்து.

Suzhalum Isaivendi Venda Uyiraar

Kazhalyaappuk Kaarigai Neerthu

(Kural 777)

Behold the men that care not for their lives but yearn for the fame that encompasseth the earth about: the anklet that they wear around their foot is a very feast to the eye. – The Kural or Maxims of Thiruvalluvar by VVS Aiyer.

Kazhal is the anklet that the brave warriors of those days wore. In the context of our tri-forces in contemporary history, should we replace the anklet with the epaulettes of these days?

As the saying goes, “A country that doesn’t respect its soldiers is doomed to fail.” Let us wake up and do our bit for our greats.

P.S: If you want to learn more about Operation Pawan, there are many resources. The first and the best I would recommend is Major General Harkirat Singh’s “Intervention in Sri Lanka: The IPKF Experience Retold.” My personal hero from Operation Pawan was Col. Anil Kaul, a tankman who lost an eye and arm during operations. He was a very knowledgeable man and one of the prominent and sane voices on news television (some might remember him as the retired officer with an eye patch). He also served as a security advisor for the International Cricket Council and was responsible for the Pakistan team’s security during the ICC Champions Trophy 2006. His revelation that fast-bowler Shoaib Akthar slapped Bob Woolmer, the then coach of the Pakistani team, created a storm in the cricket world.

Raja Baradwaj is a marketing communications professional who works with a leading technology multinational company. He is an avid reader, history buff, cricket player, writer, and Sanskrit and Dharma Sastra student.

DMK’s Double Standard Exposed: Gana Isaivani Escapes Scrutiny For Insulting Hindu Deities While Speaker Mahavishnu Who Spoke Face Hindu Concepts In A School Faced Immediate Arrest

DMK's religious Double Standard Exposed as Gana Isaivani Escapes Scrutiny For Insulting Hindu Deities While Speaker Mahavishnu Who Spoke Face Hindu Concepts In A School Faced Immediate Arrest

In a move that contradicts their previous stance on witch-hunting and arrests, the DMK is now showing a different face when it comes to issues of religious sensitivity, particularly in matters related to Hinduism. While the party has been quick to act for petty issues, it is now facing criticism for its reluctance to take action against a controversial Christian ‘gaana’ singer, Isaivani, who allegedly insulted Lord Ayyappa, a Hindu deity. This is particularly striking given that a DMK minister PK Sekar Babu, who was appointed to protect Hindu faiths, has shown hesitation in addressing the matter, raising questions about the DMK consistency in neglecting issues specifically related to Hindu religious matters.

This reluctance contrasts sharply with the party’s swift response to a speech by motivational speaker Mahavishnu, whose remarks on Tamil ethics and rebirth triggered outrage, leading to his arrest within two days.

In a recent press conference in Chennai, DMK Minister PK Sekar Babu was questioned about the growing controversy surrounding a gaana singer who allegedly insulted Hindu gods. A complaint had been filed against the singer, and reporters asked whether the HR&CE (Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments) department would take any action, given that it oversees matters related to Hindu religious affairs. In response, Minister Sekar Babu stated that if any wrongdoing was identified, action would be taken against the singer, Isavani, in accordance with the law.

Sekar Babu said, “Under this regime, our Chief Minister Stalin governs on the principle of ‘everythings for everyone.’ The Chief Minister will not allow any religion to insult another. I learned through the media that yesterday a complaint has been filed. If there is any wrongdoing, this government will take appropriate action after consulting legal experts. Our Chief Minister is determined that forces seeking to divide people on the basis of religion or race cannot thrive under this government.”

What was particularly shocking was that DMK Minister of HR&CE PK Sekar Babu repeatedly emphasized that action would be taken if any wrongdoing was identified, but this approach seemed to differ dramatically in a recent case involving a motivational speaker, Mahavishnu, who was invited to speak at a government school in Chennai. Mahavishnu, who discussed Tamil literature and ethics, including topics like ‘rebirth’ and ‘karma’ from the Thirukkural, was immediately targeted after his speech sparked outrage among Dravidianists and Periyarists. Within two days, he was arrested, placed in judicial custody, and transported under heavy police escort as if he were a criminal or terrorist.

Even, DMK Education Minister Anbil Mahesh took the issue personally and remarked, “You came to my area, spoke, and left, you have insulted my teachers. So, I’m stressing at this point that I will not let you off lightly.”

In stark contrast, when individuals insult Hindu gods or Hinduism, the government’s response is far less urgent. The Minister’s statement that action would be taken “after consulting legal experts” in such cases stands in clear contradiction to the swift arrest of Mahavishnu. This attitude raises concerns about the DMK inconsistency in handling cases of religious sensitivity, particularly when it involves Hindu beliefs.

It is shameful that, in the past, several instances of Dravidianists and Periyarists publicly insulting Hindu gods and faith have gone unpunished, with the perpetrators still roaming free. This double standard only deepens the sense of injustice and bias in the way religious matters are handled in the state.

The YouTube channel U2 Brutus, run by a person identifying as ‘Minor’ and a follower of E.V. Ramaswamy Naicker (followers call hin Periyar), is known for supporting DMK and its allied parties. On 26 April 2022, the channel released a video titled “This is the reason why Nataraja stands with his leg lifted,” in which ‘Minor’ made derogatory remarks about Hindu gods, specifically Lord Shiva and Goddess Kali. This has sparked controversy and criticism for insulting Hindu religious figures. The same channel also propagated the claim that the Hindu scriptures, particularly the Vedas, contain pornography in their mantras.

Behindwoods Mocking Ayyappa Devotees? Shares “Beef Song” By Controversial ‘Singer’ Isaivani Who Insulted Lord Ayyappa

Behindwoods Mocking Ayyappa Devotees? Shares "Beef Song" By Controversial 'Singer' Isaivani Who Insulted Lord Ayyappa

The controversy surrounding Gana singer Isaivani does not seem to be dying down – no action taken against her for hurting Hindu sentiments despite multiple complaints by devotees of Lord Ayyappa and Hindus alike. Now, Behindwoods, a channel focused on cinema, seems to want to ride on the trend and has shared a video on their Facebook page that will hurt the sentiments of Ayyappa devotees even further.

The video is originally from 2022 from what looks like an event involving Kollywood celebrities.

It was reshared on 21 November 2024 amidst the “I am sorry Ayyappa” controversy.

The lyrics of what they are calling the “Beef song” seem to be targeted at Hindus and mocking vegetarians for eating only vegetarian/plant-based diet. The lyrics are as follows:
“… add salt and spice and drink the soup
Emotions like anger, honour,

when you eat the “big meat” you get power
If you eat other vegetables, you get sugar (diabetes)

What did we get by eating other food
Our beef curry is always powerful
When we go to the shop to buy, it is housefull
You can roast it in oil and get fried beef
you can relish it”
The lyrics then praise Vada Chennai or North Chennai. The members of the team sing a rap about the place and its people.

This seems to be an attempt to mock Ayyappa devotees who have taken up the vow of abstinence in the Tamil month of Karthigai during which Ayyappa devotees visit Sabarimala for their annual pilgrimage.

CPI(M) Hypocrisy Exposed: MP Brittas Opposes Waqf Bill In Parliament, Party Supports Protestors In Munambam Against Waqf

CPI(M) Hypocrisy Exposed: MP Brittas Opposes Waqf Bill In Parliament, Party Supports Protestors In Munambam Against Waqf

The Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPI (M), often projects itself as a champion of the marginalized and a protector of people’s rights. However, recent actions reveal glaring contradictions in its stance on Waqf-related issues. On one hand, CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas vehemently opposes the withdrawal of the Waqf Properties (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Bill, 2014 in Parliament, claiming it threatens the sanctity of Waqf properties and alleging ulterior motives by the BJP government. On the other hand, the CPI(M) in Kerala aligns with the residents of Munambam protesting against the Waqf Board’s alleged encroachments, portraying itself as a defender of local communities.

Support For Munambam Residents Against Waqf

The CPI(M) in Kerala has declared strong support for the residents of Munambam, a coastal village in Ernakulam district, amidst ongoing protests against the Waqf Board’s alleged encroachment on their properties. Party state secretary M.V. Govindan assured that no one in Munambam—or anywhere in Kerala—would face eviction. He emphasized that the Left government is committed to safeguarding the rights of farmers and marginalized communities, a principle that will continue to guide its actions.

Govindan clarified that while the Waqf-related disputes in Munambam have a long history and extend beyond what the state government alone can resolve, the government will take a necessary stance after addressing legal and technical aspects. The CPI(M) has promised ongoing support to the protesting residents and firmly opposed any forcible evictions.

Additionally, Govindan accused the BJP of attempting to incite communal tensions in the area by exploiting the situation. He highlighted the bipartisan resolution passed in the Kerala Assembly by both the CPI(M)-led LDF and the Congress-led UDF, opposing the Centre’s Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which seeks to alter existing Waqf legislation.

The CPI(M) has positioned itself as a defender of the affected residents, rejecting the Waqf Board’s claims over properties with registered deeds and land tax receipts.

Opposition For Waqf In Parliament

On 8 November 2024, the BJP-led government withdrew the Waqf Properties (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Bill, 2014 in the Rajya Sabha. Originally introduced by then-Minority Affairs Minister K. Rahman Khan on 18 February 2014, the bill sought to establish a mechanism to evict unauthorised occupants from Waqf properties—assets dedicated to religious or charitable purposes. The bill was referred to a Standing Committee for review in March 2014 but had been pending since. Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju moved for its withdrawal, which was approved via voice vote.

CPI(M) MP John Brittas and IUML MP Abdul Wahab opposed the bill’s withdrawal. Brittas criticized the government, alleging ulterior motives behind the decision. He argued that the withdrawal was aimed at introducing a new bill that would encroach on Waqf properties, with intentions diametrically opposed to the original bill’s objectives of protecting these properties. He accused the government of using Waqf issues to polarize society and dilute the Waqf Act by potentially involving non-Muslims in Waqf governance. Brittas urged the government to protect the nation’s social fabric and adhere to the original bill’s model objectives. Speaking in Parliament, he said, “My submission is that Waqf properties, the government has no business to get into that. The bill which has been circulated is against the spirit of these Waqf properties. They are diluting the Waqf Act.”

This double standard reflects the CPI(M)’s prioritization of political narratives over genuine solutions, exposing its willingness to exploit sensitive issues for gains. The party’s inability to maintain a consistent position undermines its credibility and betrays the trust of the people it claims to represent. The CPI(M)’s opportunism stands as yet another example of Communist hypocrisy in action.
