Shocking! Security Agencies Catch TMC Leader’s Husband With Radioactive Californium And Classified DRDO Documents

Shocking! Security Agencies Catch TMC Leader’s Husband With Radioactive Californium And Classified DRDO Documents

Security forces apprehended the spouse of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader on November 26 in Belgachi village, situated in the Naxalbari block of Darjeeling district, West Bengal after sensitive documents belonging to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and radioactive Californium material were found in his possession.

According to reports, the suspect, identified as Francis Ekka, is married to Amrita Ekka, a member of the Naxalbari Panchayat Samiti.

A joint operation by the police and the army led to the seizure of a significant quantity of radioactive Californium and classified DRDO documents from Francis. The market value of 1 gram of Californium is estimated to be ₹17 crore.

Francis Ekka has also been accused of smuggling DRDO documents. Authorities suspect he has been involved in anti-national activities for a considerable time and has connections with foreign networks.

Kurseong Additional SP Abhishek Roy stated, “The house has been sealed. Several crucial documents and chemicals were recovered.” He also confirmed that the combined team of police and military officials is currently interrogating Francis Ekka.

Both Francis Ekka and his wife, a TMC representative, were formerly employed as permanent workers at the Belgachi tea estate but resigned after Amrita assumed her role in the Naxalbari Panchayat Samiti.

Indian Navy Seizes 500 kg Of Crystal Meth In Joint Operation With Sri Lanka In Arabian Sea

Indian Navy Seizes 500 kg Of Crystal Meth In Joint Operation With Sri Lanka In Arabian Sea

In a joint operation, the Indian Navy, with support from the Sri Lankan Navy, seized approximately 500 kg of crystal methamphetamine from Sri Lankan-flagged fishing vessels in the Arabian Sea.

The Ministry of Defence reported that the operation was initiated following Intelligence shared by the Sri Lankan Navy, which indicated possible drug smuggling aboard these vessels. Acting swiftly on the inputs, the Indian Navy coordinated efforts to track and intercept the suspected boats. Surveillance was intensified using long-range maritime patrol aircraft, remotely piloted aircraft, and a deployed Indian Navy ship.

Inputs from the Information Fusion Centre (Indian Ocean Region), Gurugram, also played a crucial role in identifying and monitoring the boats. During the operation, two vessels were located and intercepted in a meticulously planned manoeuvre involving Indian Navy aircraft and ships. A boarding team searched, uncovering around 500 kg of crystal meth.

The Ministry of Defence stated that an additional naval ship was deployed to reinforce the operation. The detained crew, along with the seized narcotics and vessels, was handed over to Sri Lankan authorities for further legal proceedings. This operation highlights the growing partnership between the Indian and Sri Lankan navies, emphasising their shared commitment to addressing regional maritime security challenges.

The joint effort underlines the resolve of both nations to combat drug trafficking and maintain security in the Indian Ocean Region. The exercise also demonstrates India’s unwavering commitment to strengthening its maritime security and coastal defence mechanisms, spanning its 11,098 km coastline and its Exclusive Economic Zone of 2.4 million square kilometres, according to an official release.

Sea Vigil 24 witnessed the participation of over 21 agencies across six ministries. These included the Indian Navy, Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, State Marine Police, Customs, BSF, CISF, Port Authorities, and Fisheries Department, among others.

India’s GDP Grows 5.4% In Q2 Of FY 2024-25; Remains Fastest Growing Major Economy In The World

India's GDP Grows 5.4% In Q2 Of FY 2024-25; Remains Fastest Growing Major Economy In The World

According to data released by the Ministry of Statistics on 29 November 2024, India’s economy clocked a GDP growth rate of 5.4 percent for the second quarter (July-September) of the current financial year. Although GDP growth slowed during the second quarter, India still remains the fastest-growing major economy in the world, as China recorded a 4.6 percent growth during the July-September quarter.

Despite sluggish growth observed in Manufacturing (2.2 per cent) and Mining & Quarrying (-0.1 per cent) sectors in Q2 of FY 2024-25, real gross value added (GVA) in H1 (April-September) has recorded a growth rate of 6.2 per cent. The agriculture and allied sector has bounced back by registering a growth rate of 3.5 per cent in Q2 of FY 2024-25 after sub-optimal growth rates ranging from 0.4 per cent to 2 per cent observed during previous four quarters.

In the construction sector, sustained domestic consumption of finished steel has resulted 7.7 per cent and 9.1 per cent growth rates respectively in Q2 and H1 of FY 2024-25, according to the official statement. The tertiary sector has clocked a growth rate of 7.1 per cent in Q2 of FY 2024-25, as compared to the growth rate of 6 per cent in Q2 of the previous financial year.

In particular, Trade, Hotels, Transport, Communication & Services related to Broadcasting has seen a growth rate of 6 per cent in Q2 of FY 2024-25 over the growth rate of 4.5 per cent in Q2, 2023-24. Another positive feature observed in the Private Final Consumption Expenditure has witnessed a growth rate of 6 per cent and 6.7 per cent respectively in Q2 and H1 of the FY 2024-25 over the growth rate of 2.6 per cent and 4 per cent in Q2 and H1 of the previous financial year.

Private consumption accounts for 60 per cent of the country’s GDP and the acceleration in the growth rate augurs well for the future. Government Final Consumption Expenditure has also rebounded to a growth rate of 4.4 per cent after having slowed in the previous quarter due to the Lok Sabha elections. India’s economic growth slowed to 6.7 per cent year-on-year in the April-June quarter as a decline in government spending during national elections weighed, data showed on 29 November, but it remained the world’s fastest-growing major economy. The rise in gross domestic product was less than 7.8 per cent growth in the previous quarter.

Still, it was faster than 4.7 per cent growth in China, Asia’s biggest economy, in April-June, and India’s slowdown is expected to be temporary as economists forecast that easing inflation and a pickup in government spending will shore up growth in the coming months. The Gross Value Added (GVA), seen by economists as a more stable measure of growth, increased by 6.8 per cent in April-June from a year earlier, compared to 6.3 per cent in the previous quarter. Consumer spending, which constitutes about 60 per cent of GDP, rose to a seven-quarter high of 7.4 per cent in April-June from a year earlier, compared to 4 per cent in the previous quarter.

Capital investments also rose by 7.4 per cent compared to 6.5 per cent in the previous quarter. Looking ahead, food inflation to ease while the growth outlook for the economy is “cautiously optimistic” for the coming months as the agricultural sector is likely to benefit from favourable monsoon conditions, increased minimum support prices and adequate supply of inputs, according to the Finance Ministry’s monthly economic review released this week.

Amid a clouded global background, and after a brief period of softening momentum over the monsoon months, many high-frequency indicators of economic activity in India have shown a rebound in October. These include indicators of rural and urban demand and supply side variables like Purchasing Managers’ Index and E-way bill generation, the report states. On the employment front, the formal workforce is expanding, with notable increases in manufacturing jobs and a strong inflow of youth into organised sectors, it added. T

he Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has also maintained its GDP growth forecast for the current fiscal year at 7.2 per cent. “India’s growth story remains intact as its fundamental drivers – consumption and investment demand – are gaining momentum. Prospects of private consumption, the mainstay of aggregate demand, look bright on the back of improved agricultural outlook and rural demand. Sustained buoyancy in services would also support urban demand. Government expenditure of the Centre and the states is expected to pick up pace in line with the Budget Estimates. Investment activity would benefit from consumer and business optimism, the government’s continued thrust on capex and healthy balance sheets of banks and corporates,” RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said while presenting the monetary policy review last month.

Andaman Police Seize 6,000kg Of Methamphetamine In Largest-Ever Maritime Haul, Peddlers Use Elon Musk’s Starlink For Navigation

Andaman Police Seize 6,000kg Of Methamphetamine In Largest-Ever Maritime Haul, Peddlers Use Elon Musk's Starlink For Navigation

Andaman and Nicobar Police, along with the Indian Coast Guard, seized 6,016 kg of methamphetamine worth ₹36,000 crore from a Myanmarese vessel. The operation uncovered a sophisticated smuggling ring using advanced satellite technology and strategic maritime routes in the Andaman Sea.

This vessel was involved in what Andaman officials are calling the largest-ever drug bust in the region, with around 6,000 kilograms of methamphetamine valued at over ₹36,000 crore.

The vessel was intercepted in a joint operation by the Crime and Economic Offence Police Station (C&EO) and the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on 25 November 2024. Among the recovered items were Starlink satellite communication equipment and GPS coordinates pointing to Rangat and Neil Islands. Starlink, a high-speed internet service provided by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, offers connectivity even in remote maritime areas, making it valuable for coordinating illegal activities far from conventional communication networks.

HGS Dhaiwal, Director General of Police, confirmed that investigators traced the main suspect, Zay Yar Soe, to Tachileik, a border town near Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand, an area notorious for drug trafficking. Police also uncovered Soe’s boarding passes from 28  September and 7 October, showing his travel between Yangon and Tachileik.

The investigation has revealed a complex, multinational operation. According to Dhaiwal, Soe detailed his movements across Southeast Asia during questioning. On 30 September, he returned to Yangon, where he spent about a week making logistical preparations. On 7 October, he flew to Kwathang, a town near the Myanmar-Thailand border, to finalize the delivery details with the buyer.

In mid-October, Soe traveled from Kwathang to Myeik, where he purchased and registered a boat with a new engine and fishing permits—likely an effort to disguise the vessel as a legitimate fishing trawler. He then sailed back to Yangon, arriving on 7 November. The vessel loaded its cargo and departed for Kwathang on 20 November.

The breakthrough came when an ICG Dornier aircraft, conducting a routine patrol near Barren Island (about 150 km from Port Blair), detected suspicious movement. The vessel was intercepted by the ICG ship ‘Aruna Asaf Ali’ on 23 November and apprehended the following day.

There is a possibility the vessel was drifting intentionally,” Dhaiwal said, noting that technical analysis would be needed to confirm this. Authorities also recovered an envelope containing 5,000 kyats and coordinates pointing to an area near Sumatra, Indonesia, south of the intended delivery point.

Crucial evidence was found on Soe’s mobile phone, including photos and a video taken on 23 November showing the loading of packets into gunny bags—hours after the ICG first spotted the vessel. “Each gunny bag contained 50 packets, except one which had 49. It’s likely that one packet was consumed by the crew,” the DGP added.

A senior ICG officer, speaking anonymously, stressed that the operation resulted from enhanced surveillance and cooperation between agencies. “In recent months, Andaman and Nicobar Police and the ICG have been working together in response to increasing sightings of Rohingya boats and Myanmarese poaching vessels. This cooperation led to the largest single seizure of methamphetamine in the region’s history,” the officer said.

The six Myanmarese crew members aboard the vessel were detained for questioning, and forensic teams confirmed the substance in 10 of the 222 gunny bags was methamphetamine, totaling approximately 6,016 kilograms.

This operation underscores the growing sophistication of drug trafficking in the region, with smugglers using advanced technologies like Starlink for coordination. The Andaman Sea route, strategically located between the Golden Triangle and major drug markets, has become increasingly vital for drug smuggling networks.

In the past five years, the Andaman and Nicobar Police have successfully intercepted about 1,100 kilograms of narcotics and arrested 640 individuals. Additionally, they have apprehended 423 foreign poachers and seized over 5,000 kilograms of marine resources, including sea cucumbers and turbo shells.

Info In Data Report Debunks Congress’ EVM Tampering Claims After Maharashtra Polls, Highlights Robust Electoral Safeguards

Info In Data Report Debunks Congress' EVM Tampering Claims After Maharashtra Polls, Highlights Robust Electoral Safeguards

At a time when the country’s EVM-based elections are being hailed across the globe, the Opposition’s bid to cast aspersions on the exercise after its defeat in the Maharashtra Assembly polls has been rubbished by analysis and research agency, Info In Data, in its latest report released on 29 November 2024.

Echoing the Election Commission’s earlier assertions about a fool-proof system against rigging, Info In Data gave a detailed report on the checks and balances in the electoral process that leave no scope for any form of bungling. The report highlighted the involvement of parties and candidates at 14 stages in checking or signing seals of the EVMs during the electoral process.

All party representatives are present at testing, randomisation and other technical stages in Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT)-EVM units on six occasions, said the report. “At various stages, the candidates or their representative sign five times on the seals that lock the EVMs,” said Info In Data. Pointing toward the zero possibility for rigging, the report said that during the entire process VVPAT-EVM units, with signatures of EC functionaries, are shared three times with political parties, including the list of 100 per cent checked EVMs.

The report comes as a fresh setback to the Opposition, particularly the Congress which has been hiding behind the excuse of EVM tampering for its recent electoral debacles.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was left searching for words to describe the MVA’s drubbing. Just as he did in Haryana, he described the loss in Maharashtra as “unexpected”. Taking to social media platform X, Gandhi wrote in Hindi, “Maharashtra results are unexpected and we would conduct a detailed analysis.”

The Maharashtra Congress even announced that it will launch a signature campaign, demanding that future elections should be conducted on ballot paper instead of EVMs to save democracy. Maharashtra Congress President Nana F. Patole said that nobody believed the results of the recent Maharashtra Assembly polls and “there is a feeling in all quarters that something has seriously gone wrong”.

Three days after the Congress’ drubbing in Maharashtra, the Supreme Court also hit out at the double-standards adopted by politicians on EVMs, depending upon the implication of the outcome for them. “If you win the elections, EVMs or voting machines are not tampered,” said the top court junking a petition seeking to go back to ballot paper voting in elections.

The report by Info In Data also reminds Congress not to go back in time and demand the return of ballot paper voting—something that has been assailed even in the US. For instance, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk hailed the EVM-based Indian electoral system for its quick counting capability.

In a recent post on X, he praised the Indian system’s ability to count 640 million votes in a single day. His post came in the backdrop of the slow and time-consuming counting process in the US, particularly California. Musk’s reaction was welcomed by BJP leader and former Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar who wrote on X, “Unhackable EVMs, Voter IDs, Biometric Digital IDs – essentials of a large, modern democracy that India is.”

Kerala’s Social Welfare Pension Scam Reveals – Government Officials, Luxury Car Owners Among Beneficiaries

Kerala's Social Welfare Pension Scam Reveals - Government Officials, Luxury Car Owners Among Beneficiaries

A BMW car owner has also featured in the list of persons who receive the state government’s monthly ₹1,600 social welfare pension in Kerala. Earlier, this week, the state-owned Information Kerala Mission (IKM), published a report stating that at least 1,458 serving government officials including Gazetted officers, have been regularly receiving the ₹1,600 monthly assistance.

In 2022, the CAG report also shed light on this monthly government assistance scam. The CAG report pointed out that the list includes over 9,000 ineligible people who took away ₹39 crores in the three-year period starting in 2017. The state government is also under pressure to release the full list of the monthly government assistance beneficiaries. Meanwhile, the state Finance Minister K. Balagopal condemned the well-off beneficiaries and warned of strict action.

On 29 November 2024, the Congress-led UDF workers took to the streets and protested against the rampant corruption in the state and also criticised the CPI-M-led government. On 28 November 2024, the BJP Kerala president K. Surendran said the state government should release the list of serving government officials who have been receiving the state government’s monthly ₹1,600 social welfare pension fund.

As per the IKM estimates, a sum of ₹23 lakh has been used to pay serving government officials this year. Among those who are currently getting the pension include school and college teachers, and the employees working in the health and other departments of the state government. In Kerala, there are around six million (60 lakh) people who get a monthly social welfare pension and at times it is deposited in arrears too.

Chennai Cop Nabbed In Meth Trafficking Web, Second Police Officer Arrested In Days

Chennai Cop Nabbed In Meth Trafficking Web, Second Police Officer Arrested In Days

In a widening crackdown on drug networks, two Chennai police officers have been arrested within weeks for allegedly aiding meth (methamphetamine) trafficking. The latest arrest involves an officer linked to a suspect caught with drugs, as investigations uncover possible collusion among law enforcement officials.

Just a week after a city police constable was arrested for allegedly collaborating with methamphetamine traffickers, another officer was taken into custody by a special team from the City Police on 29 November 2024. James, a special team member under the T Nagar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), was arrested following an investigation linked to his associate, Surendar, who had been detained the previous day.

Surendar was found with 10 grams of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest, and James is being scrutinized for his involvement in assisting the drug dealers.

Both men have been handed over to Vadapalani police for further questioning. Sources within the police department revealed that James has named two other officers as part of the operation, and their roles are under investigation.

This latest arrest follows the earlier detention of R Bharani, a 32-year-old constable from the 2016 batch, who was arrested 10 days ago for his involvement in meth trafficking. Bharani, who had been assigned to the Aynavaram police station’s law and order division, was caught in a special operation conducted by the Neelankarai Police. The operation had already led to the arrest of three individuals, including a Cameroonian national from Bengaluru, after officers discovered Bharani had been regularly receiving payments from the drug network.

The methamphetamine bust resulted in the seizure of 51 grams of the substance from suspects Raghu, a cook, Kannan, a weaver from Arani near Thiruvannamalai, and Jonathan, the Cameroonian national. Police investigation revealed that Kannan had frequent contact with a number during late hours, which was traced back to Constable Bharani. Authorities are also probing whether Bharani had informed the criminals about police operations. Investigations into both officers’ roles in the drug network are ongoing.

Chinmoy Krishna Das: A Resilient Voice Championing Hindu Rights In Bangladesh

Bangladesh Court Rejects ISKCON Priest Chinmoy Krishna Das' Bail

Chinmoy Krishna Das, also known as Sri Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu or Chandan Kumar Dhar, is a prominent Hindu religious leader in Bangladesh whose life is a testament to devotion, activism, and resilience amidst challenges. Once a senior figure in the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Bangladesh, his recent arrest on controversial sedition charges has ignited outrage among Hindu communities in Bangladesh and India.

Das has become a significant leader in Bangladesh’s Hindu minority community. Renowned for his serene and collected nature, he has persistently adopted a peaceful yet determined stance on addressing minority-related concerns.

A Devotee From Childhood

Born in Satkania Upazila, Chittagong, Chinmoy Krishna Das demonstrated a natural affinity for spirituality from an early age. Affectionately called theShishu Bokta(child preacher), he gained a reputation for his eloquence and unwavering commitment to Sanatan Dharma. Over the years, he rose through the ranks of ISKCON, eventually serving as the Divisional Organising Secretary for Chittagong, where he became a respected figure among Bangladesh’s Hindu community.

As the Principal of Pundarik Dham Ashram in Hathazari, Chittagong, he has overseen spiritual and social programs, making the ashram a hub for Hindu cultural and religious activities.

Chinmoy Krishna Das played a significant role in ISKCON’s activities in Bangladesh, serving as the Divisional Organising Secretary for Chittagong. He was known for his dynamic leadership, which expanded ISKCON’s reach and influence in the region.

Championing Hindu Rights

In August 2024, Chinmoy Krishna Das assumed leadership of the Sanatan Jagaran Mancha, a platform advocating for the rights and security of Bangladesh’s Hindu community. This initiative emerged in response to a surge in violence targeting Hindus after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government. Under his leadership, the Mancha highlighted atrocities, including attacks on temples, homes, and livelihoods.

Bangladesh’s Hindu community, comprising only 8% of the population, has long faced systemic discrimination and violence. Chinmoy Krishna Das’s vocal advocacy for justice and minority rights brought hope to millions of Hindus while drawing international attention to their plight.

A Controversial Arrest

On 25 November 2024, Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on sedition charges. The allegations stem from an incident in which he and others allegedly raised a saffron flag—a symbol of Hindu pride—above the Bangladeshi national flag during a peaceful rally in Chittagong. His supporters argue this act was a cultural expression, not sedition. However, the Chattogram Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court denied him bail, marking yet another instance of political persecution of Hindu leaders in Bangladesh.

His supporters see this act as a proud expression of cultural heritage.

Widespread Protests and International Condemnation

The arrest triggered mass protests in Bangladesh and India. Thousands took to the streets in Dhaka, Chittagong, and other cities, demanding his release and an end to violence against Hindus. Tragically, a lawyer, Saiful Islam Alif, was killed during protests in Chittagong, escalating tensions further.

In India, ISKCON members, Hindu leaders, and political figures, including Priyanka Gandhi and Pawan Kalyan, condemned the arrest. Demonstrations in Kolkata and other cities underscored solidarity with Bangladesh’s Hindu community. Indian spiritual leaders Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Sri Sri Ravishankar, and British MP Bob Blackman also voiced concerns, calling for international intervention to ensure religious freedoms in Bangladesh.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs expresseddeep concernover the arrest, urging Bangladesh to safeguard its Hindu citizens and uphold minority rights.

Despite his unwavering commitment to Sanatana Dharma, Chinmoy Krishna Das has faced politically motivated allegations aimed at tarnishing his reputation:

  • Sedition Case: His arrest over raising a saffron flag is widely seen as an attempt to suppress Hindu voices.
  • Accusations of Communal Tensions: Critics accuse him of inciting unrest, which his supporters vehemently deny.
  • Misconduct Allegations: In 2023, ISKCON suspended him following unproven allegations of misconduct, which his followers believe were orchestrated to undermine his influence.
  • Acid Attack Allegations: Reports linking him to an acid attack on law enforcement are dismissed by his supporters as baseless.

ISKCON’s Strategic Distancing & Decision Reversal

ISKCON Bangladesh, facing threats of a government ban, publicly distanced itself from Chinmoy Krishna Das. General Secretary Charu Chandra Das Brahmachari stated that he and others were removed from ISKCON fordisciplinary violations, emphasizing that their actions did not represent ISKCON. This seemingly calculated move seems to have allowed ISKCON to avert a ban and continue operating in a hostile environment. However, the organization also came forward in support of Chinmoy Krishna Das.

https://twitter.com/IskconInc/status/1862133717776679209

The organization released a statement Iskon has not, and does not distance itself from supporting Chinmoy Krishna Das’s rights and freedom for peacefully calling for protecting Hindus and their places of worship”.

Ousted PM Sheikh Hasina also called his arrestunjust‘.

In light of recent events, the Bangladesh government proposed banning ISKCON, categorizing the group as a fundamentalist organization. However, on 28 November 2024, the High Court in Bangladesh decided against prohibiting ISKCON, indicating that the current circumstances do not justify such a judicial action.

Chinmoy Krishna Das is more than a religious leader—he symbolises resilience and hope for Bangladesh’s marginalized Hindus. Despite personal and legal challenges, his steadfast commitment to Sanatana Dharma and minority rights has inspired millions. For many, he embodies the struggle for justice, equality, and the survival of Hindu identity in a nation fraught with religious tensions.

His arrest underscores the dire state of Hindu rights in Bangladesh. It has galvanized global Hindu communities to rally for his release and demand accountability for the injustices faced by minorities. In the eyes of his supporters, Chinmoy Krishna Das is not just a leader—he is a martyr for the cause of Dharma.

Anti-National Dravidianist & Self-Styled Activist Piyush Manush To Erect Memorial For Terror-Accused Pastor Stan Swamy

Anti-National Dravidianist & Self-Styled Activist Piyush Manush To Erect Memorial For Terror-Accused Pastor Stan Swamy

The Madras High Court has ruled that government authorities cannot prevent individuals from erecting statues on private land unless it poses a significant risk of causing major issues. In a recent judgment, the court allowed Piyush Manush, alleged environmental activist from Salem, to build a memorial for the late Father Stan Swamy, who was implicated in activities against the country and accused of promoting secession in connection with the Elgar Parishad-Maoists links case.

The ruling came after the court set aside a notice issued on 16 July 2021, by the Nallampalli Tahsildar, who had barred Piyush Manush from constructing a stone pillar featuring controversial secessionist priest’s image. In his order, Justice M. Dhandapani granted permission for the memorial to be built in Nekkundi village, located in the Nallampalli Taluk of Dharmapuri district. The judge referenced the legal precedent established in the case of R Kanthavel vs. The Principal Secretary, which affirmed the right to build statues on private patta land.

What raised concern, however, was that Piyush Manush, who describes himself as an activist, intended to erect a memorial for an individual with alleged ties to Naxalites and Maoists. On the government’s side, officials such as the Pennagaram DSP argued that the tribal hamlets in the area had recently become hotspots for the gathering and fostering of anti-social elements with ideologies opposing the government. The DSP also warned that the location where the stone pillar was planned to be erected was sensitive, and its unveiling could potentially lead to communal unrest.

Who Is Stan Swamy?

Pastor Stan Swamy, also known as Stan Lourduswamy, was an 83-year-old Jesuit priest and activist born in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. Later becoming a Roman Catholic priest in the Jesuit order, Swamy was deeply influenced by the principles of ‘Liberation Theology’, which integrates Marxism and historical materialism into theology. Liberation theology asserts that societal justice can only be achieved by dismantling private property and redistributing wealth created through human labor, even if this requires revolutionary tactics.

Swamy’s work spanned various countries, including the Philippines, Brazil, and the Indian Social Institute (ISI) in Bangalore, before he moved to the tribal regions of Jharkhand. Throughout his career, he was involved in activism, including protests, demonstrations, and supporting ideologies rooted in both Liberation Theology and Maoism.

According to human rights activist Xavier Dias, Swamy’s exposure to political activism began while studying in the Philippines during the 1970s, a time marked by widespread protests against the government. During further studies in Brussels, Swamy became acquainted with Brazilian Archbishop Helder Camara, a prominent figure known for his militant stance such as ‘Pro-Nazi’. Swamy formed a close bond with Camara, drawing influence from his ideas and ideological outlook.

In 1965, Swamy joined St. Xavier’s High School in Lupungutu, Chaibasa, West Singhbhum (now part of Jharkhand) for his regency, a stage during Jesuit formation where trainees undergo practical work in their third and fourth years. Swamy spent two years engaged in the Jesuit order’s activities. In the 1970s, he moved to the Philippines for theological studies and a Master’s in Sociology.

After returning to the Jesuit Jamshedpur Province in 1971, Swamy became the director of Catholic Relief Services in the region. He also served as the director of the Jesuit-run Indian Social Institute (ISI) in Bangalore from 1975 to 1986. During his tenure, several publications and books produced by ISI were accused of presenting biased portrayals of India, and the institute’s campus was reportedly used by extremist groups. For instance, the Popular Front of India (PFI), a banned organization deemed extremist, was allowed to hold events and conferences at ISI.

In 2011, the Kerala Police filed a charge sheet against PFI members in connection with the brutal attack on Professor T.J. Joseph, who had his hand severed over religious differences. In 2010, the Kerala Police also seized bombs, weapons, and documents related to Taliban and Al-Qaeda propaganda from PFI activists. Furthermore, the Kerala government informed the High Court in 2012 that the PFI was implicated in 27 murders, labeling the group as a resurgence of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

Despite these serious allegations, in 2019, the Indian Social Institute continued to permit PFI activities on its premises. In October 2019, ISI hosted a “Dalit-Muslim Dialogue” led by PFI leaders such as General Secretary Mohammed Ali Jinnah and Secretary Anis Ahmed.

A Key Conspirator In Elgar Parishad Case 2017

The NIA uncovered 140 emails from Stan Swamy’s account that revealed his connections with urban Naxals. In these emails, Swamy discussed plans to recruit individuals and provide them with armed training.

According to the NIA’s chargesheet, one of the letters written by Swamy himself stated, “An all-India front won’t be effective. It should not only serve as propaganda against fascist forces at the ground level but also launch a major offensive against them. The front should operate at the village, small town, and city levels, organizing militant sections of the population in urban areas.”

Swamy further wrote, “From the outset, we should unite Dalit and Muslim forces already forming in various parts of the country. For instance, Dalit forces are emerging in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, while Muslim minority groups in Kerala, Karnataka, and Maharashtra are engaging in militant actions against Dalit and religious minority groups, fueled by organized Hindutva forces. These groups aim to seek training by aligning with revolutionary movements.

After reviewing all the evidence, the court rejected Swamy’s bail plea, emphasizing that the collective interest of society outweighed his right to personal liberty. The judge noted, “The applicant’s old age and/or alleged health issues will not favor his release, as the broader public interest must take precedence.”

Special Judge DE Kothalikar, in his ruling, stated, “The material presented shows that the applicant was not only a member of the banned organization CPI (Maoist) but also actively worked to advance the group’s objective of overthrowing the nation’s democracy.”

The evidence suggests that Swamy was engaged in a dual agenda: publicly advocating for the conversion of indigenous Hindu tribals to Christianity while covertly working to recruit them into Maoist activities. His actions aimed to keep India’s Hindu land in a state of unrest and conflict, under the guise of helping tribal communities.

  • Objective 1: Overt – Convert tribals to Christianity while stationed in Jharkhand, establishing churches in tribal regions.
  • Objective 2: Covert – Recruit tribals for Maoist terrorism, maintaining a state of perpetual turmoil and conflict in Hindu-majority areas.
  • Objective 3: Overthrow any Indian government that does not align with Christian or Communist ideologies.

The NIA’s report concludes that Stan Swamy was a member of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) and played an active role in advancing the group’s goal of destabilizing the nation. The conspiracy he was involved in aimed to create widespread unrest and overthrow the government.

What Does NIA’s Charge Sheet Say?

The NIA chargesheet, spanning over 10,000 pages, identifies Stan Swamy as a member of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) and alleges his involvement in a conspiracy to incite caste violence during the Bhima Koregaon incident on 1 January 2018. In 2018, the Bombay High Court also described the violence linked to the Elgar Parishad and Bhima Koregaon as a “deep-rooted” conspiracy with “extremely serious repercussions.” This conclusion was based on substantial evidence against the accused.

Swamy was reportedly in contact with Comrade Arun, a CPI-Maoist cadre, and communicated concerns about the significant damage the party suffered following the arrest of urban Maoist cadres across the country, particularly in Maharashtra. The charges also reveal that Swamy received Rs 8 lakh from Comrade Mohan to support CPI-Maoist activities. Additionally, Swamy served as the convener of the Persecuted Prisoners Solidarity Committee (PPSC), a front organization for the Maoists.

The NIA further claims that Swamy had plans to organize a front to challenge the Modi government, using armed militias. Among the materials recovered from him were documents detailing the 50-year history of the Naxalbari movement, CPI-Maoist press releases, and circulars from the central committee. Also found were encrypted communications guides, letters about mobilizing Adivasi communities, and documents relating to strategies for the Indian revolution and the tactics of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA).

One of the letters instructed leaders of the Scheduled Castes (SC) to act with a principle of “no rest, no negligence, and no mercy” and to disrupt the BJP-RSS’s propaganda about development. The letter also emphasized the goal of preventing the BJP from gaining influence among tribal and lower-middle-class populations. On the international front, the document noted disruptions in communication with global Maoist parties due to the absence of key figures like Rona Wilson and Sai Baba. Operations in Sri Lanka and Nepal were also said to be affected, with the central committee assigning a comrade the responsibility of coordinating international solidarity programs, ensuring security training for all involved.

The chargesheet further reveals plans to avoid using the term “anti-fascist” in public campaigns to prevent negative reactions. The NIA also cites a letter from wanted accused Milind Teltumbde (Com M) to another accused, Ron Wilson, which mentions providing monetary support to Sudhir Dhawale and outlines his role in these activities.

NIA’s Arrest & Declaration

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) asserted that Swamy was a key conspirator in the 2017 Elgar Parishad case, which led to violence, stone-pelting, and arson at Shaniwar Wada in Pune. He was arrested on 8 October and presented before a Special Court in Mumbai the following day. Notably, he was not placed in police custody but was instead remanded to judicial custody at Taloja Central Jail. The NIA confirmed that all required legal procedures, including his medical examination, were carried out.

The NIA described Swamy as a “hard-core CPI (Maoist) activist” who allegedly received funds from other Maoist groups to support the activities of the banned organization. Furthermore, the agency stated that Swamy was the convenor of the PPSC and that incriminating documents related to the promotion of CPI (Maoist) activities were found in his possession.

Taxpayer-Funded DMK Govt’s Fact-Check Unit Mission Director Iyan Karthikeyan & DMK Propaganda Outlet YouTurn Peddle Misleading Narrative On PM Vishwakarma Scheme And Poompuhar Awards; Get Schooled By BJP TN Leader SG Suryah

Taxpayer-Funded DMK Govt’s Fact-Check Unit Mission Director Iyan Karthikeyan & DMK Propaganda Outlet YouTurn Peddle Misleading Narrative On PM Vishwakarma Scheme And Poompuhar Awards; Get Schooled By BJP TN Leader SG Suryah

The state fact-checker Iyan Karthikeyan was caught peddling misinformation regarding the PM Vishwakarma scheme that supported the DMK version but completely distorted the clarification offered by the Tamil Nadu BJP. This selective fact promotion is seen as another attempt to shield and promote the ruling DMK.

Dravidianist YouTuber Iyan Karthikeyan was appointed as the state-run fact-checking head, and the media outlet You-Turn, a mouthpiece for Dravidian propaganda, is once again exposed for spreading misleading narratives on the PM Vishwakarma Yojana. The outlet was caught selectively promoting the DMK’s version of events while distorting Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary SG Suryah’s rebuttal to Chief Minister MK Stalin regarding the controversy over the non-implementation of the ‘PM’s Vishwakarma Scheme‘.

On 28 November 2024, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, in a statement posted on his official X account, announced that the state government would not implement the Centre’s ‘PM Vishwakarma Yojana’ in its current form, citing its failure to align with the principles of social justice. Stalin emphasized that the Tamil Nadu government would instead introduce a more inclusive scheme to support artisans from all backgrounds, rejecting any perpetuation of caste-based occupations (Kulla Kalvi Thittam).

In response, TN BJP State Secretary SG Suryah criticized Stalin’s remarks and offered a detailed rebuttal on X. Suryah argued that Stalin was misinformed and accused the Tamil Nadu government of politicizing the issue. He clarified that the central government’s Vishwakarma Scheme was designed to uplift artisans through loans, training, market support, and modern tools, with an initial allocation of 13,000 crore. Suryah also pointed out contradictions in Stalin’s stance, referencing the Tamil Nadu government’s history of honouring artisans, such as through the “Poompuhar” initiative started by Stalin’s father, which also involved caste-based recognition.

Suryah asserted that the central government’s scheme was genuinely aimed at benefiting artisans rather than seeking publicity. He criticized Stalin for politicizing social justice and further accused the Chief Minister of misleading the public about the scheme’s intentions.

Narrative Setting

Seizing the opportunity for their own agenda, Dravidianist YouTuber-turned-state-run fact-checking head Iyan Karthikeyan, along with the Dravidian propaganda outlet ‘You-Turn’, selectively distorted BJP State Secretary SG Suryah’s words to peddle a misleading narrative about PM Vishwakarma scheme. Iyan misrepresented Suryah’s question about Chief Minister Stalin’s stance on the central government’s ‘Vishwakarma Yojana’ comparing to TN’s Handloom department ‘Poompuhar’.

Suryah had asked, “Have you forgotten that in 1973, your father, the late Mr. Karunanidhi, started the Handloom Industries Development Corporation under the name “Poompuhar” and it will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024? To encourage the artisans of that company, you honor the best artisans of Tamil Nadu by giving awards every year. Isn’t that based on caste? Doesn’t that count as your false and distorted social justice?” This question, which referred to Stalin’s dismissal of the central scheme as “Kula Kalvi Thittam” (literally translating to caste-based family occupation training), was deliberately taken out of context by the media outlet to push a narrative favorable to the DMK.

In this regard, On 28 November the YouTurn via its official X account peddled, “The Prime Minister’s ‘Vishwakarma’ scheme defines family-based traditional profession as an eligibility. That is, a profession based on caste. @SuryahSG mentions that the primary objective of this scheme is to uplift the status of artisans and workers who work using manual labour and traditional tools. S.G.Surya left out the fact that the Union Government has mentioned it as ‘family-based practice’. It is a rule that the person who wants to benefit from the Vishwakarma scheme must be verified and confirmed by the Gram Panchayat President and the Administrative Heads of the Urban Local Bodies whether the person who wants to benefit from the scheme is engaged in the profession based on family tradition. It is on this basis that we say ‘Vishwakarma = family based occupation (Kulla Tholil)’.”

Following it, Dravidianist YouTuber-turned-state-run fact-checking head Iyan Karthikeyan peddled a similar narrative against the PM Vishwakarma scheme via his official X account stating, “Poompuhar Handicrafts Award. Offered on material basis. Awarded to traditional handicrafts, not traditional family businesses. The rules do not directly or indirectly ask for caste.”

In response to the narrative pushed by the Dravidinist Iyan Karthikeyan and media outlet YouTurn, TN BJP State Secretary SG Suryah delivered a sharp and fitting rebuttal supporting the Vishwakarma Yojana. He shared documents and mocked the claims, addressing, “Sir, truth seeker Mr. @Iyankarthikeyan! For someone who tweeted rhymingly with timing, stating that ‘The Poompuhar Handicrafts Award is given based on material. It is given to traditional handicrafts, not to those who do traditional family businesses,” do you know why the question ‘traditional vocational education’ is included in the application for this award?”

Suryah further urged, “Please, I humbly request you not to lower the standard of your responsibility by opposing the opposition parties for political reasons while holding important government positions. Thank you!” Along with his response, he shared images of the Poompuhar application forms, which clearly stated, “Vocational Education/Traditional Education Details” in one, and “Details about vocational education or details of learning a profession through traditional/gurukula methods” in another, highlighting the contradiction in Karthikeyan’s narrative.

What was truly ironic was that the shameless Dravidianist, in his desperate attempt to bolster his own narrative, got caught in a glaring display of hypocrisy and inconsistency. While trying to push a biased agenda in favor of the DMK, he claimed that the ‘Poompuhar’ award does not ask for caste information. Yet, he failed to acknowledge that it does, in fact, request details about learning a profession through traditional or gurukula methods. Similarly, the central government’s ‘Vishwakarma Yojana’ has never mentioned caste as a requirement. Despite this, the Dravidianist, bent on advancing the DMK’s narrative, was caught red-handed contradicting his own claims in their own posts.

Iyan Karthikeyan in subsequent posts stated, “Mr. Suryah, The application form for the Poompuhar Handicrafts Award has 9 rules. No rule based on caste is mentioned in it. Therefore, it is wrong to say that this award is caste-based. The application form only mentions “details of vocational education or details of learning the trade in the traditional/Gurukula system”. There are no rules that it is mandatory to have learned the trade in the Gurukula system. The Tamil Nadu government introduced the Artisan Development Scheme on the basis of improving the skills of those above 35 years of age who are already engaged in this profession. However, the rules of the Union Government’s Vishwakarma Scheme state that they can join it as soon as they turn 18. If so, the Tamil Nadu government’s argument is that this is like preventing students from pursuing higher education and forcing them into clan occupation. The first qualification set for applying for the Vishwakarma scheme is “to have done a family-based business”. This is what the Tamil Nadu government is opposing. The Tamil Nadu government’s intention is to help and include those who are engaged in family business due to circumstances. On the contrary, the Tamil Nadu government has opposed the Vishwakarma scheme with other objectives. Do not believe that you can win by constantly distorting information, changing it to suit you, and using words.”

SG Suryah further clarified that, “Mr. @Iyankarthikeyan! I don’t know whether you have posted after reading my statements. However, I would like to highlight a few things. In my statements, I raised the question, “If you are honoring the best artisans of Tamil Nadu by giving awards every year, then doesn’t it come on the basis of caste?” You are trying to twist my entire statements by taking the word ‘caste’ in that single line and saying that I am approaching this issue on the basis of caste. That is wrong with a ulterior motive.”

“I would like to school you what I have said in my statemnets for your clarity here!

  1. It is wrong for you to view this ‘Vishwakarma’ scheme that Mr. Narendra Modi has brought to light the lives of artisans on the basis of ‘caste’; I have clearly stated that it is for the category that does occupation based on manual labor and traditional tools.
  2. In the organization started by the late Mr. Karunanidhi in 1973 under the name of Handloom Industries Development Corporation- “Poompukhar”, you give awards to the best artisans every year, but in which category do you give them? I have pointed out that it is on the same basis on which the Central Government classifies artisans.
  3. It is right for you to call artisans and praise them for their work and give them awards, but is it wrong if the central government announces a scheme to improve the lives of artisans? I have raised the question that how do you differentiate between the first one, social justice, and the second one, social basis?

But Mr. Karthikeyan, as usual, you read my statements and played with the word ‘caste’ in it and showcased to pay your salary as if you had worked today. In short, you have read the whole statement and started doing politics using the word ‘caste’ alone in it. That’s right. Finally, please read my statement again and then clarify. I am not the person to do politics with your usual ‘social justice’ rhetoric. See someone else for that. Thank you.” He added.
