Mahakumbh 2025: A Life-Altering Journey Into The Heart Of Sanatana Dharma

Why Maha Kumbh 2025 Is A Once-In-A-Lifetime Spiritual Experience For Hindus

In his groundbreaking book, man’s search for meaning, Viktor E. Frankl notes: “Those who have a “why” to live, can bear with almost any “how””

I was reminded of this quote after my personal life-altering experience of Mahakumbh 2025 – Once in a century opportunity to participate and soak in the divinity amongst the ocean of sanatanis thronging the ghats of Prayagraj, upholding the sacred traditions of our ancestors. The decision to embark on this “teerth yatra” was an instantaneous one & with 3 of my colleagues, I embarked on a journey into the unknown as this was not just my first trip to Uttar Pradesh, but also a visit to the holiest of all festivals in our Sanatana Dharma.

Historicity & Metaphysical Significance

Kumbh or Kumbh Mela is celebrated once every 12 years with a specific astronomical cum astrological alignment of planets. The mela that happens at the end of 12 such cycles i.e. 12 kumbhs is Mahakumbh, which is ongoing in Prayagraj in 2025. Starting around Makara Sankranti and going up to Maha Shivaratri, this event draws crowds from various corners of the globe, each with their own journey to discover.

Mahakumbh is celebrated to honour the Samudra Manthana, the churning of the Milky Ocean by Devas and Daityas, in search of the elusive elixir, Amrutha. The legend goes on that due to certain events, 4 drops of nectar fell in 4 different places viz., Haridwar, Prayagraj, Ujjain & Nashik, which is where Kumbh is celebrated every 12 years.

The events of Samudra Manthana i.e. various items like Airavata, Uchchaisravas, Apsaras, Kaustubha, Kamadhenu, etc along with the deadly poison Halahala & the potion of immortality, Amrutha that come up from the ocean, are beautifully illustrated on the walls of the city. When one takes a ride through the city, it is impossible to miss these beautiful illustrations.

I can’t help but reflect on these celestial events in a more metaphysical sense. Isn’t the Samudra Manthana an ongoing process within our souls? I believe this is a metaphor for the journey of a human into discovering his own self and breaking the barriers or the clutches of Maya and transcending the path towards the divine. Halahala & Amrutha can be considered as the states of mind where we are influenced by the various vices i.e. Shadripus.

Event Organisation

An event of such magnitude requires humongous preparation and rallying of resources to facilitate and host such a surge of humanity, averaging 1.5 Crore every day. The local administration should be applauded and appreciated very highly for ensuring a relatively smooth experience for one and all. The central and state governments should be very highly appreciated for organising an event of such proportions. Some of the standout features are:

  • Enormous number of portable Toilets with uninterrupted water supply
  • Similarly, innumerable bath chambers or changing rooms are constructed
  • Entirely new cities i.e. Tent Cities erected on the banks of the Ganga to provide world-class accommodation to seekers.
  • Roads constructed with steel plates for commuting over these banks
  • A large number of Pontoon Bridges were built for easy commute of people walking or using vehicles – All are one-way routes including for those going by foot.

While these facilities were top-notch and should be celebrated & studied widely, there were some specks of discomfort amongst the yatris. Numerous Barricades, abrupt traffic restrictions due to VVIP presence, and unavailability of resources did draw the ire of some. One aspect that stood out was the preferential treatment of VVIPs compared to the common man. While this is an expected outcome in an event of such significance and magnitude, it did put the seeker to some discomfort, with a very steep price to pay economically. In the future, I hope the authorities plan this aspect better with dedicated slots or days or spots for VVIPs while providing similar flexibility to the common man.

Economics

Mahakumbh should be a definitive study in the economic model that has been unleashed is of a humungous proportion. Numerous businesses have sprung up, thereby providing an opportunity to make a better living, which I feel is perhaps an understated aspect of this event.

Stores selling everyday essentials like soap, oils, pooja items, water, juices, rudraksha, etc can be found literally at every step. On closer observation, one can appreciate the sacrifices being made by entire families to eke out a better outcome at every juncture. One example that stuck with me was this Amul outlet near my tents, which is essentially run by a family who had perhaps migrated from Odisha (guessing from the name) lock, stock, and barrel. Utilising the facilities of toilet provided by the government, this family is struggling hard to make a profit economically, while braving the sharp cold at night. They don’t have the luxury of the tents like the yatris do but sleep in a makeshift tent erected using their sarees and clothes. The economic disparity is glaring at times, but the spirit is heart-warming.

Businesses, small and big were spread out over the entire Mela area and beyond. While the corner stores that sold essentials were a common sight, corporate conglomerates weren’t far behind.

  • Corporate Brand Presence: Brands like Dominos Pizza, Pizza Hut, Vaango, Campa, etc had an equally ubiquitous presence everywhere. Amul had a towering presence for milk products while some other milk brands were observed in other places.
  • Bike Taxis: An innovation that I encountered first in the Mahakumbh Mela. Essentially, a bike rider takes 2/3 people along with him on his bike and ferries them from one point to another for a charge. These charges are not small for a common man, but quite affordable for a middle-class person. Bike riders from all over Prayag and perhaps outstation have made the Sangam area their base and generating revenue like no other.
  • E-rickshaws: This is perhaps the most eye-opening moment of my trip. The sheer adoption and widespread implementation of electic rickshaws to transport yatris from one point to another is simply mind-boggling. This widespread prevalence is not limited to Prayagraj but was observed with equal fervour in both Kashi and Ayodhya (two other stops of our trip). Electric vehicles have certainly got a huge boost due to the Mahakumbh.

Environmental Impact

Events of such large magnitude tend to draw their own share of opposition, especially related to environmental topics. However, what one observes in the Mela and beyond i.e. in other cities, should become a lesson to be adopted closer home.

Food was available everywhere for free. Though we were lucky to have our food in our camp, I did observe that all religious institutions were serving food to every yatri who passed through their gates. This food was served on dry-leaf plates which are easily bio-degradable and environment friendly.

Apart from the toilets, one of the most stand-out features of this mela was the huge spread of Water Banks – places to distribute potable drinking water. One was not limited to buying the branded mineral water but could easily fill their bottles with drinking water at every possible junction. This is a HUGE achievement of this mela and its administrators.

Chai, an eternal favourite and life saver in cold conditions, was served in Kullads, clay cups that were disposed of after use. A simple, but beautiful innovation that reduces water usage (due to the requirement of cleaning in the case of steel glasses) and eliminates the fear of hygiene, given the monstrous proportions of the population walking through the roads of Prayag. Wherever Kullads weren’t available, I observed paper cups (not the preferred solution) were used.

Overall, this mela is a macrocosm of many various microcosms each with its own business and economic objectives. While one drives through the Mela area, one can’t help but empathise with the families for the conditions they are currently in but also feel proud about their self-reliance and ethos.

Finally, the beauty of this meal can be understood by appreciating the fact that the entire ecosystem is temporary and shall be dismantled upon the culmination of the Mahakumbh. In fact, many event organisers and some religious institutions have already started dismantling their structures. Excellently planned & executed.

Temples – What To Visit

Prayagraj is home to many ancient temples with a very interesting history. Owing to the surging crowd and the sheer complexity of getting around, we could visit only a few temples in the divine place, but with very interesting itihasa attached to them.

Someshwar Mahadev

This is a linga supposed to have been consecrated by Soma / Chandra while performing tapas to please Shiva. From the Puranas, we learn that Daksha Prajapati had cursed his son-in-law Chandra for favouring Rohini over the other 26 wives he had married. Ill-fated with leprosy, Chandra prays to Mahadeva here to overcome this ailment. The linga is very beautiful and can be prayed through Abhisheka. One unique feature of Lingas in the northern part of our divine land is that we can touch the Linga and garner our blessings from the same.

From the main road, en route to this temple, there is a unique temple dedicated to the 3 river devis i.e. Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati that make Prayagraj, truly “Teerth Raj”. The simplicity is quite jarring, but the divinity is unmistakable.

Nageshwar Mahadev

This is a temple adjoining a Ghat constructed for bathing purposes. This was situated opposite to our tent, and we walked to this kshetra, only to be greeted by a majestic Linga. Though there are no written records, the main priest shared that no one knows the antiquity of this temple, except that the linga was a udbhava (self-generated) linga coming up from Patala Loka. An unknown treasure is hidden amongst the bylanes of the divine city.

Nag Vasuki Kshetra

One of the must-visit places in Prayagraj is the ancient Nag Vasuki temple, dedicated to Vasuki, the serpent lord who was used as the Churning rope during the famous Samudra Manthana. The Moorthi of the Naga Devata is majestic and has an unknown charm attached to it. In the same complex, we can find temples dedicated to Mahadeva, Veni Madhav & other deities.

Akhadas

We visited Prayagraj in the middle of February, after Magha Pournima, and hence, many akhadas had already shifted their bases. While we were lucky to have walked through the famous Juna Akhada and Kinnar Akhadas, we weren’t lucky enough to meet some of the famous yogis and swamis. However, we could participate in the Mahamangalarathi in Kinnar Akhada and were lucky to meet Aghori Guru Sri Manikandan and the Mahamandaleshwar of Kinnar Akhada.

Perhaps, the life-altering experience that I can mention was the interaction with Naga Sadhus in Juna Akhada. One of my colleagues travelling with me had a unique experience, that literally left him stunned. Owing to privacy concerns, I am not reproducing the incident but suffice to say that it sent a chill down all of our spines.

A self-proclaimed 221-year-old Naga Sadhu mata in Juna Akhada

Near our camp, we also visited the permanent base of Sri Shambhu Panchayati Atal Akhada. The main Guru had just left for Mumbai, but speaking to the security guard, we learned that this is a Kashmir-based Akhada and is visited by the Mahaswami during Kumbh.

We did observe some very senior sishyas of the Akhada, but decided against disturbing them with conversation & just soaked in the divinity in the air.

Other Temples

Apart from these famous Akhadas, we also observed a very wonderful Sri Venkateshwara Swamy temple constructed in the Sangam area by TTD, as well as a majestic and imposing structure of ISKCON funded by one of India’s famous business tycoons and a camp of Mata Amritanandamayi with a complete mobile hospital bus parked nearby. It would be fair to summarise that almost every religious order of some denomination had their presence in this divine event & all their bhaktas could savour their trip through personal experiences.

Personal Experiences

Referring to the quote at the onset of this article, the “Why” part was initially flummoxing but became quite clear as the days became closer to our journey. Once the decision was set in the mind, the rest of the modalities became inconsequential. The “How” was easily managed at every step, even though we had our share of curve balls, both implementation-wise and economically. In this section, I would like to share the overrun of emotions in my mind and soul as I returned from the Mahakumbh.

First, one needs to visit Prayagraj to really appreciate the majesty and enormity of Maa Ganga. Our camp was established by a premier company in the famous Tent City of Prayagraj. When we spoke to locals, we understood that our camp was literally the middle of Ganga in her full flow i.e. 2.5 km wide river with water level going up to 70 feet during monsoons. This is a humungous amount of water that can’t be described but only can be comprehended by a personal visit. I would consider ourselves lucky that we could stay in her lap for 2 days and offer arghya & chant other mantras during sunrise, noon & sunset. Mother, who nourishes all her children alike with her benevolence and unconditional love.

When we walked towards the Sangam area, we could observe wave after wave of devotees making their way to have their lifetime experience of bathing in the holy waters. The crowd cut across nationalities, regionalities, and economic spectra and was just a sight to behold. Some groups were implementing unique techniques to stay together, while there were some on their own steeped in their own adventures.

I would like to recollect an interesting incident here. When we walking towards the Ghat, a young man in his early 20s came and checked with me about the route to the bathing Ghat. Since we were going towards the same destination, he too tagged along with us. The conversation led to the realisation that we had similar ancestries originating from Kerala and that he was a young mind pursuing his law. Without knowing Hindi, he travelled to Kumbh to experience the atmosphere and derive his own perspectives of the event. This is just a one-off experience but is representative of many such inspiring stories from many quarters in the Kumbh. What struck me was one statement from the young chap: “Neither my grandfather would have participated in this event, nor will my grandchildren witness this majestic celebration”. Simple, yet very profound.

As we took the dip in the holy Sangam ghat, one can’t help but feel emotional and overwhelmed at the sheer confluence of various cultures, languages, ethnicities, and backgrounds at the festival of divinity. I always believe that every single spiritual step is pre-ordained by the omnipresent deity, and it was his/her design that we could take the dip amongst the millions of people assembled at that place. All of us are reflections of the almighty in some form and I felt an unexplainable connection with unknown faces – Sheer happiness for no apparent reason.

After finishing my pitru tarpana, as soon as I took my customary dip, I was requested by an elderly lady to perform visarjana of her kalasha / kumbha. Why she chose me amongst the millions around is quite unexplainable, but felt very blessed that I was able to perform this simple task. Standing in the water, as I observed as far as the horizon stretched, one could observe the various colours and rituals being performed by the huge crowd, I couldn’t help but reflect: We are divided in our approach, but our destiny and destination are the same – To connect with the divine.

As I left Prayagraj for my onward journey to Varanasi, I couldn’t help but reflect: Sanatana Dharma is alive and thriving and will always continue to do so for eons to come. Never doubt this aspect for the true citizens of this divine Bhoomi have spoken, quite clearly and loudly.

“Is It Not Our Duty To Destroy You?”: After Calling For Eradicating Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism), Congress-Ally DMK CM MK Stalin Now Talks Of Eradicating Hindi

stalin hindi ban dmk

While the Central government pushes for the implementation of the National Education Policy in Tamil Nadu, with the state BJP supporting the introduction of a Third Language policy in government schools—allowing any Indian language—the ruling DMK and its allies have consistently claiming that the Centre is trying to impose Hindi. They have launched a campaign against what they call Anti-Hindi imposition, with support from Dravidian media. In this context, the DMK, which has previously called for the eradication of Sanatan Dharma through Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, is now also targeting the Hindi language. Chief Minister MK Stalin recently issued a statement, accompanied by a poem, calling for the eradication of Hindi.

In a social media post on his official X account, he quoted the words of revolutionary poet Bharathidasan stating, “O Hindi language, in the midst of this joyful Dravidian land, it is you who will be cast aside. O Hindi, that has caused so much suffering, your cunningness will not deceive us! When Tamil youth speak, they open their mouths to the sweet Tamil, lovingly given by their mother. If we are force fed you, then is it not also our duty to destroy you? – Revolutionary poet Bharathidasan.”

This comes in the wake of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan rejecting Tamil Nadu’s plea for funding, as the state was unwilling to implement the National Education Policy while still seeking financial support. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai has exposed the hypocrisy of the DMK and its allies in their opposition to the three-language policy. Annamalai argued that the DMK’s objection isn’t about the policy itself, but rather about its potential benefits for government school students.

He highlighted several contradictions, pointing out that Tamil Nadu’s School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh’s son studies in a private school where French is offered as a third language. He also pointed out that TVK leader Vijay, who has opposed the three-language policy, owns a CBSE school that teaches Hindi and follows the three-language policy. Furthermore, the latest revelation involves VCK leader Thirumalavalan, who is a director at a CBSE school that also teaches Hindi and a third language, further exposing the double standards of the DMK and its allies.

Anti-NEP, Anti-Hindi, Anti-Three Language Policy VCK MP Thirumavalavan Runs A CBSE School That Follows 3 Language Policy, BJP TN Head Annamalai Exposes

Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai sharply criticized the hypocrisy of the DMK and its allies, particularly pointing out the inconsistency regarding their stance on the three-language policy in schools. Annamalai highlighted that the DMK, along with its ally Thirumalavalan, leader of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), has opposed government school students learning a third language but being a member of the board of directors at Blue Star Secondary School, a CBSE-affiliated school in Velachery, Chennai, which teaches trilingual education.

In a recent social media post on 20 February 2025, Annamalai questioned Thirumalavalan’s actions, stating, “I had hoped brother Thirumalavalan wouldn’t be like DMK playing a double game by aligning with the DMK. Unfortunately, I’m disappointed. Brother Thirumalavalan is the chairman of the board at Blue Star Secondary School, Velachery, Chennai which follows the CBSE curriculum. Why is it that those who argue against offering trilingual education to the poor and underprivileged students in government schools are somehow linked with private schools that do offer trilingual education?”

Through this post, Annamalai exposed the clear contradiction in the stance taken by the DMK and its allies regarding the education policy, accusing them of double standards.

Previously, Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai recently exposed the hypocrisy of actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay, also known as TVK leader, for his contradictory stance on the three-language policy. Vijay, who has been vocal against the policy and its implementation, operates a CBSE school in Chennai that follows the very same policy he publicly condemns.

On 16 February 2025, Vijay criticized the Central Government’s National Education Policy (NEP) for imposing the three-language policy, claiming it undermines the autonomy of states. He said, “Enforcing the three-language policy is nothing but an attempt to strip states of their autonomy.”

Further, in November 2024, his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), reaffirmed its opposition to the three-language policy, stating that the Union Government’s efforts to enforce it in Tamil Nadu would never succeed. The party insisted on the two-language policy for the state, emphasizing Tamil and English as the official languages. Vijay also reiterated this position during the party’s first state conference in October 2024.

However, Annamalai revealed the hypocrisy behind Vijay’s public stance. It has now come to light that Vijay operates a CBSE school in Chennai, Vijay Vidyashram, which follows the three-language policy. The school, located in Padur, offers English as the primary language, with options for a second language like Tamil, Hindi, or French, and requires students to study a third language until Class 8. This directly contradicts his opposition to the policy.

Annamalai pointed out that the land on which Vijay Vidyashram is built belongs to C. Joseph Vijay, who leased it to the school for 35 years (2017–2052) under a trust registered in the name of Vijay’s father, SA Chandrasekhar. Annamalai questioned how Vijay, a vocal critic of the three-language policy, could run a school that enforces it.

This exposed contradiction highlights Vijay’s hypocrisy, as he claims to advocate for the Tamil language while running an institution that implements the very language policy, he opposes also celebrates Hindi.

Dravidianist Hypocrisy Unmasked: DMK MLA’s CBSE School Promotes Hindi While Opposing NEP 2020

The Dravidianist parties in Tamil Nadu, especially the DMK and its notable allies have been protesting against the alleged imposition of Hindi under the NEP 2020 in the state. While there is no known imposition, the education policy mandates that students study 3 languages as part of their curriculum. Dravidianists faking their love for Tamil allege that such practices will erase Tamil and impose Hindi (when the mandate is that students can learn any other language, not necessarily Hindi).

However, this hypocrisy gets exposed every single day given that political party leaders in Tamil Nadu, the majority of them if not all, run schools as well.

Part-time politician Vijay was exposed a few days ago for running a CBSE school that promotes learning Hindi.

Now, DMK MLA GV Markandeyan is under the spotlight. He is one of the managing trustees of a CBSE school named Sri Ambal Vidhyalaya in Vilathikulam, Thoothukudi. This is an English-medium CBSE school. It is noteworthy that GV Markandeyan is an MLA from the same constituency – Vilathikulam.

In addition to his presence, his wife Anita Markandeyan is also among the managing trustees.

Here is a video of a student fluently speaking Hindi, showcasing the school’s commitment to ensuring students master the language.

They have Instagram and Facebook pages that are filled with such videos of children speaking in English, Hindi, performing yoga and other activities.

Interestingly, their logo has Sanskrit words too – the logo says – “Vignyanam, Shaantam, Advaitam” meaning “Knowledge, Tranquility, Oneness”!!! But isn’t Sanskrit an Aryan language according to Dravidianists?

The blatant hypocrisy of the Dravidianist parties cannot be ignored. While they vocally criticize the three-language policy and present themselves as champions of Tamil, the inconvenient truth is that they all run CBSE schools in Tamil Nadu that directly follows the very policy they claim to oppose. Their attempt to position themselves as saviours of Tamil language rights crumbles in the face of this exposed contradiction.

Dindigul-Kumily Four-Lane Road Expansion Project Will Progress Smoothly If TN Govt Cooperates

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is seeking cooperation from the Tamil Nadu government for the Dindigul-Kumily four-lane expansion project. The current 295 km state highway, which connects Dindigul in Tamil Nadu to Kollam in Kerala, has been poorly maintained by the respective state highway departments. As a result, traveling on this road has been a significant challenge.

Increase in Accidents

Initially upgraded to a two-lane road in 2010, the road’s 10-foot width has become insufficient as traffic volumes have surged, leading to a rise in accidents. The road is particularly congested during the Sabarimala season and summer vacations, further exacerbating the problem.

The NHAI has now proposed to expand this stretch to a four-lane road spanning 125 km from Dindigul to Kumily, with a planned width of 60 feet. The central government has pledged to allocate over Rs 3,000 crore for this upgrade.

Currently, the journey from Dindigul to Kumily takes at least two and a quarter hours. Once the road expansion is completed, the travel time will be cut to just one hour, making it easier for devotees to access Sabarimala during peak seasons. To accommodate the expansion, 25 feet of land will need to be acquired on both sides, including a significant amount of agricultural land.

Land Acquisition Challenges

There are widespread claims that the DMK government in Tamil Nadu has been uncooperative in facilitating land acquisition for the project. A detailed project estimate, including the funds and land required, will be prepared in the next six months. If the Tamil Nadu government provides the necessary cooperation, the project is expected to progress on schedule.

An official from the NHAI’s Tamil Nadu division mentioned that funding is not an issue for the Dindigul-Kumily expansion. The NHAI has already approved the required funds for 2024. However, the acquisition of agricultural land is a significant hurdle, and the full cooperation of the state government is essential to move forward. If land acquisition proceeds smoothly, the expansion work could begin as early as December or January next year, with completion expected within 12 months.

The Tamil Nadu government is also expected to assist with the opening of a toll booth along this stretch of road, as part of the project.

National Highways in Theni District

Theni district has two national highways: the Madurai-Kochi National Highway No. 85 and the Dindigul-Kollam National Highway No. 185. The Madurai-Kochi highway runs from Madurai to Kochi, passing through Theni, Bodi, Devikulam, Munnar, and Muvattupuzha. This road has been extended to Thondi via Sivaganga.

The Dindigul-Kumily stretch, part of National Highway No. 185, connects Dindigul to Kollam via Theni, Kumbam, Kumily, Vandi Periyar, and Kottayam. The expansion of this road to four lanes will significantly improve traffic flow between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, boosting economic development, according to NHAI officials.

Mohammad Danish, Mohammad Nadim, Mohammad Murshid Gangrape Odisha Woman In Tiruppur; Dravidianist Media Identifies Them As North Indians While Ignoring Law & Order Issues In TN

Tiruppur city police arrested three workers said to be from Bihar on the night of 18 February 2025 for allegedly gang-raping a 26-year-old woman from Odisha. The accused reportedly threatened to kill her husband with a knife and assaulted her in front of their three-year-old child. The survivor is currently receiving treatment at the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital.

The arrested individuals—M Mohammad Danish (25), M Mohammad Murshid (20), and M Mohammad Nadim (23), all from Supaul in Bihar—were employed at a private knitwear manufacturing unit in Tiruppur and residing in Lakshmi Nagar.

According to police, the woman, her husband, and their child arrived in Coimbatore from Odisha 15 days ago in search of work and stayed in Annur. On 17 February 2025, they travelled to Tiruppur and were at Pushpa Junction when two of the accused, Mohammad Nadim and Mohammad Murshid, approached them, offering job opportunities and a place to stay. They led the family to their residence, where the third accused, Mohammad Danish, was present.

That night, while the family slept, the accused allegedly held a knife to the husband’s throat and raped the woman. They also tied up the husband and threatened to harm their child if she resisted. The next morning, the accused chased the family away. The woman later filed a complaint at the Tiruppur North All-Women Police Station.

Based on her complaint, a case was registered under Sections 70(1) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), leading to the arrest of the three accused. Police investigations are ongoing.

How Dravidianist Media Portrays Incident

Instead of asserting that it is a law and order issue, that the assailants were Islamists, the Dravidianist media focuses on the fact that the accused were from Bihar – thereby furthering the hate against Bihari migrant workers living and working in Tamil Nadu. This also deepens the divisive Dravidianist narrative of “north” and “south” Indians – that they’ve been peddling for quite a while.

Sun News wrote, “Odisha woman gang raped – 3 people from Bihar arrested in Tiruppur”

News18 Tamil Nadu wrote, Three arrested for gang-raping a woman from Northern State while threatening her with a knife in Tiruppur #Tiruppur #Bihar #SexualAbuse”

The Bihar hashtag is enough to set the narrative rolling.

Puthiya Thalaimurai wrote, Sexual harassment in Tiruppur- 3 Bihari men arrested #Tiruppur | #SexualHarassment | #Bihar”

They directly imply that the assailants are Biharis and play to the gallery.

Crimes Against Women On The Rise In TN

This incident follows the arrest of seven college students in Coimbatore for allegedly gang-raping a 17-year-old girl, sparking widespread outrage across Tamil Nadu. Protests erupted on Tuesday, with opposition party AIADMK condemning the rise in sexual crimes.

Recent cases of sexual violence in Tamil Nadu include the sexual assault of a woman student at Anna University in Chennai, the arrest of three teachers in Krishnagiri for abusing a female student, and multiple incidents involving minors in Salem and Pollachi.

Authorities continue investigations into the Tiruppur case, emphasizing the need for stricter measures to curb rising sexual crimes in the state.

“Solda Paakalam! I’ll Paste ‘Paaldayil Babu’ Posters Outside Your House”: BJP TN Chief Annamalai Dares DMK Scion Udhayanidhi Stalin To Say “Get Out Modi” And Face The Consequences

Tamil Nadu BJP chief K. Annamalai unleashed a blistering attack on DMK scion Udhayanidhi Stalin, warning that if he dared to say “Get Out Modi,” he would personally plaster “Paaldayil Babu” posters outside Udhayanidhi’s residence.

Speaking at a public meeting, Annamalai ridiculed the DMK leader’s stature, stating, “There are some petty men who, the moment they step out of their hometowns, become unrecognizable nobodies. It takes four lackeys shouting ‘Annan is coming, Annan is coming!’ just to remind people who their so-called leader is.”

Turning up the heat, Annamalai declared, “Now, let me switch to DMK’s own language. Don’t mistake me. These sidekicks have the audacity to throw allegations at India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Just two days ago, Udhayanidhi Stalin declared that if Modi visits Tamil Nadu, he will say ‘Get Out Modi’ instead of ‘Go Back Modi.’ Well, Udhayanidhi, if you think you’re a man, I dare you to say it. Say it, if you have the guts! You think just because your father is the Chief Minister and your grandfather was a five-time CM, you can say whatever you want? Try saying it, da!”

Raising the stakes, he thundered, “If you so much as open your mouth to utter ‘Get Out Modi,’ I will come straight to your house and paste posters calling you ‘Paaldayil Babu.’ I will speak to you in the very language you understand!”

Annamalai didn’t stop there. He went on to mock Udhayanidhi’s privileged lifestyle, contrasting it with Modi’s discipline and work ethic: “The sun touches your skin only at 11:30 AM. You don’t even see the sunrise—you only look up when it’s directly above your head. And if you spit at the sun, it will only fall back on your own face. That’s the kind of man you are!”

Slamming Udhayanidhi’s audacity, he added, “You dare to insult a man who wakes up at Brahma Muhurtham (3:30 AM), does yoga, and begins governing the nation while you’re still in bed? If a man like you, who rolls out of bed at noon, has this much arrogance, imagine the strength of the millions of hardworking Indians who rise early and toil every day!”

Muhammad Yunus Govt Accused Of Enabling Hindu Persecution In Bangladesh: UN Report

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has exposed the human rights violations against vulnerable Hindu minorities in Bangladesh on 12 February 2025 with its latest report, titled Human Rights Violations and Abuses related to the Protests of July and August 2024 in Bangladesh, draws attention to atrocities committed amid the country’s political turmoil, particularly under the interim government of Muhammad Yunus, who has been accused of aligning with Islamist forces.

The OHCHR report highlights the severe violence faced by Hindus in Bangladesh, including attacks on homes, businesses, and places of worship. It particularly notes incidents of arson, destruction, and physical assaults against Hindu individuals, with some attacks reportedly tied to political or religious motivations. The report also outlines the inadequate response from the Bangladeshi authorities, which failed to prevent these crimes.

In one instance, it details violent attacks on Hindu and Indigenous communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, where Buddhist and Hindu homes were set on fire, and temples were destroyed. The violence was particularly intense in regions perceived to be sympathetic to the ruling Awami League. The report mentions how Hindu business owners and residents in these areas suffered extensive property damage, including the looting of shops and destruction of religious sites.

The report further discusses the systematic nature of these attacks, which targeted Hindu communities in several districts, including Thakurgaon, Lalmonirhat, and Dinajpur. It also highlights how Hindu educators and leaders were coerced into resigning from their positions due to threats of violence.

The OHCHR’s findings shed light on the rising attacks on religious minorities, especially as revenge violence linked to political events escalated. The violence was often perpetrated by local supporters of opposition parties such as the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, as well as Islamic hardliners.

The OHCHR report on Bangladesh reveals troubling findings that expose the severe attacks against the Hindu community, which were downplayed by the interim government of Muhammad Yunus. On page 52 of the report, it highlights the violent mobs involved in revenge violence, including killings, targeting police and Awami League officials, with Hindus also subjected to human rights violations such as the burning of homes and attacks on religious sites. The report criticized the administration for its inadequate response in preventing these abuses, especially by non-state actors like violent Muslim mobs.

Page 55 addresses attacks on Hindu and Indigenous communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT). In September 2024, OpIndia reported on violent Muslim mobs attacking Buddhist Chakma and Hindu Tripuri communities in the Chittagong Division, where more than 200 shops and homes were set ablaze. The mob also attacked a Buddhist temple, committed arson, and killed multiple people.

The OHCHR report further references widespread destruction of Hindu homes, businesses, and places of worship in areas such as Thakurgaon, Lalmonirhat, Dinajpur, Sylhet, Khulna, and Rangpur. The destruction was particularly severe in regions thought to support the Awami League, with Hindus often being unfairly associated with this political faction. On page 56, it notes how Hindu headmasters and teachers were pressured into resigning from their positions. Hindu business owners and homeowners reported property destruction, arson, and threats, with insufficient police response, indicating a systemic lack of accountability.

The report also details a mass exodus of Hindus from villages in Thakurgaon, where around 3,000-4,000 individuals fled to the India-Bangladesh border to escape violence, only to be turned away by India’s Border Security Force. Affected families reported feeling insecure and facing heavy financial losses, including the destruction of essential goods, livestock, and businesses.

National Security Intelligence (NSI) information provided to the OHCHR indicated 37 violent attacks on minorities between 5-15 August 2024. These attacks spanned multiple districts, with most involving the looting, vandalism, or burning of homes and businesses. Four attacks targeted Hindu temples, and victims were physically assaulted, including one woman whose throat was slit. The report also identified political motives behind these attacks, with some perpetrators linked to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami. Many of the attacks occurred during celebrations of the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

On page 62, the report points out the responsibility of local BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami supporters in these human rights violations, particularly during revenge attacks against the Hindu community. It is noted that Yunus has been advancing the agenda of the BNP, which is a rival of Hasina’s party.

In response to the OHCHR report, the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council (BHBCUC) issued a statement urging an exhaustive investigation into the communal violence following Hasina’s removal. The BHBCUC thanked the OHCHR for acknowledging the attacks but criticized the report for not covering the full extent of the violence and systemic discrimination against minorities. The council also called on Yunus to revoke immunity granted to student protests that led to widespread chaos between 15 July and 8 August 2024.

In response to the report’s release, the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council (BHBCUC) issued a statement condemning the violence and calling for a full investigation into the attacks on the Hindu community. The council criticized the OHCHR report for failing to capture the full scope of the violence and discrimination faced by minorities in Bangladesh, particularly during the period following the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Reports have surfaced that Hindu minorities in Bangladesh are being forced to join groups like Jamaat-e-Islami under coercion, while Hindu religious ceremonies, including Durga Puja, have been violently disrupted. Incidents of idol vandalism, attacks on Hindu temples, and threats against Hindu individuals have become increasingly common.

The ongoing persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh, as detailed by the OHCHR report and other human rights organizations, underscores the systemic nature of religious intolerance and the failure of the current government to protect religious minorities from targeted violence.

Dravidian Model Hypocrisy: DMK Govt Opposes PM SHRI Schools, Wants Funds Earmarked For PM Shri Schools

The DMK and its allies’ anti-Hindi agitation in Chennai against the Central Government lacks clear reasoning, especially after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that funding for a specific scheme would only be provided once the Tamil Nadu government is ready to implement it. However, the DMK is opposing the Three-Language Policy of the National Education Policy that is followed in all states of India where children are given a choice to learn a language. The DMK has also been falsely portraying the issue as a Hindi-only imposition. This hypocrisy becomes apparent as they incite their supporters, claiming that the central government is forcing Hindi upon Tamil Nadu.

The DMK government is pushing for the release of nearly ₹2,500 crore in pending funds from the previous financial year and 2024-25 under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). The SSA funds are linked to the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) program.

The PM-SHRI initiative aims to identify schools across India and implement the NEP 2020 framework, transforming them into model institutions for others to follow. Jointly funded by the central and state governments, these schools will be equipped with modern facilities to support both academic and extracurricular activities.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has stated that Tamil Nadu will not receive SSA funds unless it fully implements the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Criticizing the DMK government, he described them as “divisive people” and asserted, “They cannot think they are above the Constitution. They must accept the NEP in letter and spirit.”

The DMK, facing mounting criticism and anti-incumbency, has shamelessly seized this opportunity to push the narrative of Hindi imposition, with pro-Dravidian media echoing the DMK’s claims.

In response to growing concerns, the DMK and its allies held a protest on February 18, 2025, at the Chennai Collectorate, criticizing the central government. Later, Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh took to social media, stating, “Let me be crystal clear: We REJECT the NEP2020! We REJECT PM SHRI School! We REJECT Hindi imposition!”

However, many netizens, noticing the apparent contradiction in his stance, questioned why the DMK minister opposed the scheme but was now protesting for funding. They pointed out that the center is only obligated to provide funds once the scheme is implemented and asked why he was protesting for its funds if he was against it in the first place.

In a nutshell, the DMK government is opposing the PM-SHRI school while demanding the funds for the same.
