The Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Forces were deployed to restore order.

#9 Murshidabad (13 April 2025)

In Jafrabad village under Samserganj Police Station, two Hindu men—Hargovinda Das and his son Chandan Das—were brutally murdered. #15 North 24 Parganas (26 April 2025)

#16 Howrah (27 April 2025)

In Bhagawatipur village under Sankrail Police Station, Islamists attacked a Puja pandal late at night. According to reports, a group of Muslim men harassed Hindu women at the pandal and, when confronted, returned with weapons. At least five individuals—Amar Patra, Debashis Barik, Bishnu Sardar, Bijoy Singh, and Chandu Barik—were injured in the ensuing attack.

April 2025 marked one of the most violent months for Hindus in West Bengal in recent times. With attacks spanning 11 districts and taking various forms—mob violence, sexual assault, religious desecration, and targeted killings—the alarming trend calls for urgent attention from both the state and central authorities. Community leaders and human rights observers have raised concerns about rising radicalisation and alleged state inaction, demanding thorough investigations and protection for vulnerable Hindu populations across West Bengal.

TVK Member Vaishnavi Quits Party Over Gender Bias, Thanks BJP Leader Vanathi Srinivasan For Support

vaishnavi tvk vanathi srinivasan

Coimbatore-based influencer and former TVK member Vaishnavi, who recently stepped down from Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, cited lack of opportunities for women within the party as the reason for her resignation. Despite her popularity, she revealed she was not even invited to two key committee meetings held in her own city, leading to growing frustration and stress.

Vaishnavi has now expressed gratitude to Coimbatore MLA and BJP Mahila Morcha National President Vanathi Srinivasan for supporting her political transition.

In a post on X, she wrote, “Young women and youth like me definitely need the encouragement and guidance of experienced people like you to be the voice of the people in the political arena!! Of course, my public service will continue… Thank you to all the good people who continue to support me… Thank you sister @VanathiBJP.”

This came in response to BJP leader Vanathi Srinivasan’s recent press statement, where she invited young aspirants like Vaishnavi to join the BJP, emphasizing the party’s inclusive nature and opportunities.

Vanathi said, “Usually, when young people or women express a desire to dedicate themselves to politics, they often lack support from their families or society. Parents who proudly support their children becoming doctors or engineers rarely show the same encouragement if they choose politics. But if someone truly believes that politics is a path to serve the people, they can overcome any obstacle with conviction. So, if that sister genuinely wants to enter politics for public service, she is welcome to join our party. Here, everyone is given equal opportunity.”

Actor Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is actively gearing up for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections by appointing district secretaries, organizing conventions, and conducting booth committee meetings.

Recently, a booth committee meeting was held in Coimbatore district. However, local party volunteer Vaishnavi was reportedly denied entry to the meeting. Her exclusion caught media attention after she voiced her concerns in a press interview, leading to a growing spotlight on her situation.

In a subsequent public statement, Vaishnavi officially announced her resignation from TVK. She wrote, “I’m writing this with a heavy heart. Despite gaining recognition in a short span within the party, my goals and vision have remained unchanged. I began my political journey with TVK hoping to bring about real change in society. But all I’ve faced is continuous rejection. For the past three months, I’ve been under immense stress. Some individuals within the party have been actively working to block my growth.”

Following her resignation, Vaishnavi gave an exclusive interview to News18 Tamil Nadu, where she stated, “We joined with the hope that Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam would uplift and support young women. But unfortunately, the actions of certain district-level administrators have created an environment where women like us are being sidelined.”

SC Woman Alleges Tenkasi Municipality Seized Beef Stall On Caste Grounds, Claims Threats From Congress MLA’s Son

sc woman tenkasi beef stall mla

A 41-year-old roadside vendor from the Scheduled Caste community, M Muthuselvi of Keezha Surandai, has filed a formal complaint with the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), alleging that her roadside stall was forcibly removed by the Surandai municipality with support from the police, in a targeted action due to her selling beef. The chairperson of the municipality, Valli Murugan, son of Tenkasi MLA Palani Nadar, and two police officers have been named in the complaint.

According to the complaint, on 29 April 2025, Murugan had allegedly confronted Muthuselvi and expressed his disapproval of beef being sold at her stall, which he claimed offended his religious sentiments, as cows are worshipped in his community. He allegedly warned her to vacate the area within two days or face eviction with police help. The woman stated that she earned her livelihood solely through the sale of beef and had been operating the stall with what she believed was oral consent from the municipality.

On 1 May 2025, she alleged that Sub-Inspector Selvan and a constable named Kalyana Sundararaj entered her residence without a warrant, threatened her using the name of the MLA, and instructed her to relocate her stall near a TASMAC outlet. She claimed that the authorities seized her pushcarts, gas cylinders, stoves, kitchenware, and all groceries, leaving her without a source of income.

Responding to the allegations, Superintendent of Police S. Aravind clarified that the action was part of a routine encroachment removal exercise carried out by the municipality, and that police presence was standard procedure during such civic actions. He denied any specific targeting or religious motive behind the operation.

Municipality chairperson Valli Murugan also denied orchestrating the seizure and claimed that the police had acted independently based on public health concerns. He acknowledged that he had informally allowed the woman to run a stall but distanced himself from the enforcement action, suggesting that the stall was located near a public path where people reportedly consumed alcohol.

Sub-Inspector Selvan justified the removal, stating it was based on intelligence inputs that the stall was causing hygiene issues, with meat waste allegedly polluting a nearby pond. He noted that Muthuselvi could approach the municipality and pay a penalty to retrieve the confiscated items.

Muthuselvi has circulated a video to media outlets and requested intervention from senior officials, asserting that the action was discriminatory and had destroyed her means of livelihood. The case has now drawn the attention of the NCSC, with further inquiry likely.

Newslaundry Calls 72-Yr-Old Islamist Rapist A ‘Boy’, Labels Rape Of Minor Hindu Girl An ‘Affair’—Offers Token Apology After Backlash

newslaundry islamist rapist minor hindu girl rape

The left-leaning media outlet Newslaundry has once again come under fire for allegedly promoting a misleading narrative—this time drawing outrage for seemingly downplaying the rape of a minor by framing it as a consensual affair, reportedly because the accused belongs to the Muslim community.  However, after attracting severe slipper shots from netizens and the public, Newslaundry retracted its stance, made the video private on YouTube, and issued a token apology. The platform’s Editor-in-Chief, Raman Kirpal, had previously referred to the tragic rape incident as a “small” affair, which he later acknowledged was a factual error.

On 4 May 2025, Newslaundry issued a baseless apology on its official X account, stating, “Apology Regarding Statement on the Nainital Incident.  We want to issue a sincere apology regarding how our Editor-in-Chief, Raman Kirpal, described the recent incident in Nainital involving the sexual assault of a minor. In our earlier video, our editor wrongly described the incident as “small” and referred to it as “an affair.” This was a factual error. We deeply regret it. As editors, we should have had full knowledge of what had happened before commenting on the matter. The responsibility to verify and be cautious with our words rests squarely with us. We take full responsibility for this lapse. We have since re-uploaded the video after removing the inaccurate sentence. We stand by the need for sensitive and factual journalism, especially in situations where misinformation and communal tensions can cause real harm.”

Newslaundry Launders Child Rape Case As ‘Affair’

On 3 May 2025, during Episode 535 of its Hafta podcast, Newslaundry was accused of intentionally framing the rape of a minor in Nainital as a communal issue, instead of treating it as a grave criminal act.

During the discussion, panellist Raman Kirpal reportedly referred to the case involving a 75-year-old Muslim man, Muhammad Usman, accused of raping a 12-year-old Hindu girl, as an incident being framed communally due to an alleged “affair” between a Muslim male and a Hindu female. Kirpal described the situation as one in which Muslims were being unfairly targeted, claiming that tensions in Nainital escalated after the supposed affair came to light. He referred to the unrest as a “small incident” and said that Muslim-owned shops were attacked and shut down as a result.

Speaking in the podcast, Kirpal stated, “In Nainital yesterday, one boy had an affair, or some problem, with a girl. They started beating the Muslims. They shut down those shops, very prominent shops in Nainital. They beat them up, and today the entire place is closed. They are going against the Muslims.” Co-hosts Abhinandan Sekhri and Manisha Pande did not object to this framing during the episode.

These comments have triggered widespread public backlash, with critics arguing that the incident— a serious case of child sexual abuse—was irresponsibly downplayed and misrepresented as a communal matter. Many have accused the media outlet of disregarding the emotional trauma of the victim and failing to acknowledge the legal gravity of the offense. In response to the growing criticism, the podcast episode has now been made private.

The token apology issued by the pro-Congress, left-leaning media outlet was not well-received, with netizens demanding not just a written apology, but one delivered through a podcast video. Some of the responses below.

One netizen stated, “Very convenient to tweet an apology later. The whole panel should apologize in the next episode and publish that video clip here.”

Another netizen called out the media’s hypocrisy and stated, ” It matters what you launder, #newslaundry. Apology is good but if this is the mindset of the Editor-in-Chief…”

Another critic slammed the journalist’s mentality, saying, “Your editor in chief has to have pedophilia kind perverse mentality to even think like that. Who else is so mentally sick in your offices?? Is it Pedophilia club?”

Another netizen said, “Odd days bootlicking Opposition narrative and funding, even days generalising Pedophilia as Press Freedom debate”

Another netizen called out the journalists stating, @AbhinandanSekhr what a shameless pig you are man. Pathetic! @MnshaP  you call yourself a woman? The dishonesty in the discourse which the left steers is beyond redemption, they have reached the point of no return. The most soulless and hollow set of people.”

https://twitter.com/iwasiamiwillbe_/status/1919101413004574838

Another netizens criticized saying, “A 12 year old girl was raped by a 72 year old & well heeled Muslim in Nainital. Instead of standing with the poor victim, you guys started her character assassination. Do you have any idea what the POCSO Act is all about?”

Another netizen called for the media ban on the news channel stating, You should be banned for trying to normalise Pedophilia & rape ,@NCWIndia this New Laundy conveyed that its okay that a 72 years old Muslim man raped a 12 years old Minor Hindu girl, as the victim is Muslim, so you said that it was an affair between a Muslim boy & a Hindu girl, they made the rape case as affair and told that the 72 years old man is a boy.”

Another netizen said, “Wonderful tactics of white colloured criminals supporting monster Jihadi. First whitewash the crimes and than submit the apology after misleading the whole world.”

https://twitter.com/harish_purohit/status/1919093519110521189

Tragic Nainatal Incident

According to the Nainital police, the incident occurred on 12 April when the minor girl went to a nearby market. She was reportedly lured by the accused with money and taken to his residence, where he allegedly raped her in a garage and threatened her not to tell anyone. The girl’s behavior changed following the assault—she became withdrawn and eventually stopped attending school, prompting concern from her family. On 30 April, after disclosing the assault to her mother, a formal police complaint was filed. Muhammad Usman was subsequently arrested and charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act.

The portrayal of this serious case as merely an “interfaith affair” has been condemned as irresponsible journalism. Observers argue that such framing diverts attention from the core issue—sexual violence against a minor—and instead introduces communal overtones that distort public understanding and downplay the victim’s suffering.

Kanchipuram Farmers Allegedly Harassed By Dravidian Model Govt Officials To Surrender Fertile Land For Sports Complex, Pleads For Justice As Livelihood Uncertain

kanchipuram farmer fertile land sports complex

Farmers in Kanchipuram have made a heartfelt plea, expressing their distress over government officials targeting fertile agricultural land in the region for the construction of a new sports field. This project falls under the Ministry of Youth Welfare and Sports Development, headed by Deputy Chief Minister and DMK scion Udhayanidhi Stalin. The farmers lament that although there are vacant plots nearby and volunteers willing to offer their land for the project, officials from Karuveppampoondi insist on taking over valuable farmland.

One such landowner, Subbaiah, who has cultivated coconut, mango, and sapota groves on the land for three generations, has been particularly affected. Despite obtaining a stay order from the court, Subbaiah continue to face harassment from the officials, leaving him frustrated and helpless.

Speaking to the media, farmer Subbaiah said, “Sir, we’ve been cultivating these coconut trees for almost 42 years, and we’ve struggled immensely. The people of this town have helped us, with 50 to 100 people working daily, ensuring food for everyone and paying wages. Through all this hard work, it is only now that we’re beginning to see the benefits, and everyone is living peacefully. This is our livelihood. Without it, we have no other way to survive. For three generations, this has been the way of life for our family for 42 years, passed down from my father’s time. But in the last two years, suddenly they’re asking for land to build sports fields. There is available land for sports field nearby, but they insist on destroying our coconut, mango, and sapota trees. This is completely unnecessary. We don’t understand why they are doing this or why there is such animosity towards us. The authorities arrive without any prior notice. They come when we’re not around, knowing when we’re at the hospital due to illness. The revenue officials show up with a JCB and 10 to 50 members, assisted by 10 to 20 police officers, trying to destroy the path. This is 42 years of hard work, not just from my generation but from generations before me. My family has been working on this land, from my father’s time to my children’s. Even my grandchildren now work here. We’re dependent on this land for three generations; there are no other options for us.”

Subbaiah stated that the officials claimed this decision was based on the orders of the Chief Minister and advice from the Deputy Chief Minister. However, he expressed his belief that neither the Chief Minister nor the Deputy Chief Minister would approve such actions that would devastate the livelihoods of farmers. Despite this, the authorities remain determined to seize the land.

Although a stay order has been issued, Subbaiah mentioned that the authorities continue to ignore it. They would temporarily halt their actions for a few months, but whenever the property owner is away, such as during vacations, they resume their efforts. He also revealed that many villagers with 8 to 10 acres of land have volunteered to offer their land for the project and have even petitioned the Collector, but the officials remain resolute in taking his land, which is home to 4,000 coconut trees, 200 mango trees, and several sapota trees. This ongoing harassment has been persisting for the past 2 to 3 years.

He lamented, “Even if there is no land available here, it’s fine. There is land nearby, within 300 meters, with 8 to 10 acres available.”

“Imposing Brahmanical Norms”: Sree Narayana Manava Dharmam Trust Alleges Waqf (Amendment) Act Violates Islamic Principles In Supreme Court, Had Earlier Denounced Call To Light Lamps On Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha

The Sree Narayana Manava Dharmam Trust has filed an intervention application in the Supreme Court, backing a batch of petitions that challenge the constitutionality of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. Founded in 2023, the Trust is dedicated to promoting the ideals of Sree Narayana Guru, a Hindu sage and social reformer from Kerala known for championing social equality and opposing caste discrimination.

The trust submitted its plea on 3 May 2025, stating that it could not remain an “idle spectator” to what it called the “devastating impact” of the new law on the Muslim community and social justice in India.

The plea argues that the 2025 amendment constitutes a “fraud on the Constitution” and effectively abolishes the traditional Islamic practice of Waqf. According to the Trust, the amended law replaces the religious institution of Waqf with a “state-designed mechanism” that undermines its theological and legal foundations.

“The arrangement for charity by Muslims created by the Impugned Act is not Waqf by any stretch of the imagination,” the petition states. “What is left after the enactment of the Impugned Act is, in law and in reality, not a Waqf institution at all—from a legal or theological point of view.”

The Trust contends that Parliament has no authority to abolish an ancient religious practice such as Waqf, which Muslims consider an act of worship. It argues that the Act violates protections guaranteed under Articles 13 and 29(1) of the Constitution.

Further, the application highlights that the amendment imposes an unconstitutional, “sui generis state-designed” scheme to control Muslim charitable donations, masquerading them as waqf while stripping them of their religious character. The removal of key provisions, such as the ‘waqf by user’ clause, and the reclassification of waqf as a non-religious institution, have also been challenged.

The Trust warns that the Act “deletes in its entirety the body of Islamic law as the basic governing law of waqf” and “fatally breaches the religious requirement that waqf must be administered strictly in accordance with democratic norms.” It alleges that the replacement of elections with appointments for Waqf Board members amounts to imposing “the non-democratic norms of Brahmanism” on an Islamic institution.

The matter is being heard by a bench comprising Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, Justice KV Viswanathan, and Justice Sanjay Kumar. The court is expected to resume hearing on preliminary objections and potential interim directions on 5 May 2025 at 2 PM.

It is noteworthy that the Sree Narayana Manava Dharmam Trust had criticized SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan for urging people to light lamps on 22 January 2024, the day of the Ayodhya Ram Temple consecration, calling it contrary to Sree Narayana Guru’s ideals of communal harmony. The Trust cited the Supreme Court’s acknowledgment that the Babri Masjid was illegally demolished and that the temple’s construction violates secular principles. In a statement, G. Mohan Gopal and V.R. Joshy accused Natesan of aligning with the RSS and attempting to misrepresent Guru’s teachings. They also noted the temple’s ₹18,000 crore cost equals Kerala’s education budget for 18 years.

“Want Indian Actresses As S*x Slaves”, Pakistani Journo Mubashir Luqman Has Wet Dreams

mubashir luqman pakistani derogatory comments vulgar india

A shocking video clip featuring Pakistani journalist Mubashir Luqman has ignited widespread condemnation after he expressed a desire to take Indian actresses as “sex slaves” in the event of a war between India and Pakistan. The remarks, made during a conversation with fellow journalist Naeem Hanif, have fueled anger among Indian social media users, who have denounced the statement as reflective of a “radical mindset.”

The controversial exchange took place amid escalating tensions following India’s retaliatory measures against Pakistan over the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 Hindu lives. In the video, Hanif asks Luqman about his wishes if a war were to break out between the two nations.

“Okay sir, you’ve decided to fight, you’ve decided to pick up a gun. God forbid, if war happens. Then what is your wish?”, Hanif asks.

Luqman responds with a disturbing query directed at religious scholars: “I want to ask the religious scholars through your podcast, if Indian actresses come as our sex slaves, do we have permission to make them sex slaves or not?”

When Hanif presses him on the issue, Luqman abruptly changes the topic, later stating, “On a serious note, my wish is not martyrdom, my wish is to be a warrior. May Allah make all of Pakistan warriors.”

The clip has drawn sharp reactions online, with many Indians condemning the remarks as evidence of a deeply misogynistic and extremist mindset.

The controversy comes at a time when relations between India and Pakistan remain strained, with Islamabad facing global scrutiny over its alleged support for terrorism. The inflammatory remarks have further heightened public outrage in India, with calls for Bollywood and political leaders to respond strongly to such derogatory statements.

Madurai Adheenam Says Driver Of Vehicle Which Hit His Car Had A Cap And Beard, Slams DMK For Abusing Hindu Faith While Doing Minority Appeasement

madurai adheenam

Madurai Adheenam has alleged a conspiracy to cause a car accident aimed at taking his life, while also criticizing the state government and political parties for their hypocrisy in blindly supporting minorities and neglecting the majority. He further pointed out the government’s failure to act on his concerns, despite claims by ministers of treating all religions equally.

In an interview, Harihara Gnanasambandha Desika Paramarcharya Swamigal (Madurai Adheenam) shared the details of the incident, “We had completed the puja in Madurai at 5:30 in the morning. We were scheduled to attend the Saiva Siddhanta conference in Chennai and left around 6:00 AM, traveling by car towards Chennai. When we reached Ulundurpet, a car that had just demolished a roadblock at a turning point crashed into ours. The impact was so severe that I fainted in shock. When I regained consciousness, I saw that the driver of the car that hit us was wearing a cap and had a beard. Moreover, the car had no number plate. I didn’t file a complaint with the police because I knew nothing would be done. Instead, I’ve filed a complaint with Lord Shiva. Here, privileges are only extended to minorities, and filing a complaint with the police would yield no action.”

Criticizing the DMK government’s favoritism towards minorities, the Mutt leader said, “The government is clearly favoring one religion, right? They are prioritizing one religion. Yes, they are researching Muslim festivals and offering additional concessions to minorities. All political parties do this. Now, with the Waqf Board, all parties are speaking out and condemning it. But I won’t go into all that; I will focus solely on the religious aspect. You mock the Vibhuti, and you ridicule the Thiruman. When a state minister takes the oath, what do they say? They claim that all religions should be treated equally, but they provide special concessions to minorities and need only minorities. Don’t you also need the majority’s votes?”

The Tamil Nadu BJP and Hindu Makkal Katchi have demanded that Madurai Adheenam be provided with proper security. Hindu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath stated, “Madurai Adheenam, who survived by the grace of Mother Meenakshi Sokkanathar, has claimed that there was a conspiracy to kill him. He has vowed to take this issue to Prime Minister Modi.”

Madurai Adheenam has long been an outspoken advocate for Hindu rights, working towards the protection of Sri Lankan Tamils, the recovery of temple properties, the promotion of Saivism, and Tamil development. As a result, he has often faced threats and criticism. For this reason, he must be provided with police security.

Tamil Nadu BJP Spiritual Wing Leader Nachiyappan also condemned the DMK government’s failure to secure spiritual leaders, stating, “Under the DMK government, there is no security for temples or religious figures, and they are openly declaring their intent to destroy Sanatana Dharma.”

Regarding the accident, Nachiyappan said, “The incident that occurred when Madurai Adheenam was traveling by car appears to be part of a planned conspiracy. By God’s grace, no harm came to the Adheenam. Those responsible for the incident should be arrested immediately, and Madurai Adheenam must be provided with proper security.”

Kerala Congress Throws ‘WhatsApp University Professor’ Jibe At Abruptly Recalled IMF CEA, Mirrors China-Pakistan Propaganda

imf kerala congress CEA whatsapp university

At a time when India is gearing up for a high-stakes vote at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to block financial aid to Pakistan over terror-financing concerns, the Kerala unit of the Indian National Congress has chosen to mock and belittle the country’s official representative. In a tweet dripping with sarcasm and malice, Kerala Congress on its X handled made a post referring to Dr. Krishnamurthy V Subramanian as aWhatsApp University professorand mocked his early exit from the IMF’s Executive Board.

This isn’t just juvenile political banter. It borders on dangerous propaganda—and sounds eerily like something you’d expect from Beijing or Islamabad, not from a party that once led India.

Context Matters: Why Now?

Dr. Subramanian’s abrupt recall from the IMF has raised eyebrows across the diplomatic and economic spectrum. The move came just days before a crucial IMF board meeting scheduled for 9 May 2025, where India is set to oppose funding for Pakistan.

Pakistan, reeling from economic collapse and global scrutiny over its support for terror groups, is once again at the IMF’s door. But this time, India’s stand is rooted in more than just economic rivalry. The 22 April 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 tourists—orchestrated by Pakistan-backed groups—has pushed India to demand a re-evaluation of IMF funds being routed to Islamabad.

Subramanian, known for his independent thinking and forthright positions, had reportedly raised objections to the quality of IMF datasets and was uncomfortable with decisions that could indirectly benefit Pakistan. His exit, therefore, is as much a diplomatic maneuver as it is an institutional reshuffle.

Kerala Congress’s Statement: A Propaganda Gift To China And Pakistan

Into this highly sensitive geopolitical moment walked the Congress’s Kerala unit—with a tweet that does not just criticize policy, but insults a distinguished economist and undermines India’s diplomatic position on the world stage. The post read,Esteemed WhatsApp University professor, who is India’s representative at IMF, removed as Executive Director six months before his tenure ends. Remember his $55 trillion GDP calculation nonsense and defending the current GDP formula? We are glad that the government has finally realised the embarassment he could cause, even by their standards. Good riddance! Now Mr. Subramanian can return to WhatsApp University as a full time faculty.

This comes at a time when that very seat is crucial in a vote to block funds to Pakistan.

This is not a political critique. This is information warfare—conducted seemingly wittingly by a national political party, using language and framing that mirrors what Chinese or Pakistani propagandists might say. It betrays either a deep ignorance of the stakes involved or something far more cynical.

China’s Influence On IMF

China’s influence in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is growing significantly, even though its financial contribution stands at around 6% of the IMF quota. Over the past decade, China and other fast-developing economies have shifted the global economic balance, which is reflected in increased Chinese representation within the IMF. A major milestone was in 2016, when the IMF included the Chinese yuan (renminbi) in the basket of currencies that make up the Special Drawing Rights (SDR), alongside the US dollar, euro, pound sterling, and Japanese yen. Remarkably, despite being the most recent entrant, the yuan now constitutes 11% of the SDR basket—ranking third, ahead of the pound and yen—highlighting China’s rising monetary clout. This increase in influence is not just symbolic; it potentially allows China to sway IMF decisions, including loans to countries like Pakistan, thereby boosting China’s geopolitical leverage. The inclusion of the yuan also reflects the IMF’s gradual recognition of China’s global economic importance, despite ongoing concerns about China’s own financial stability.

With its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)—of which CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor) is a key component, is Beijing lobbying for softer terms for Pakistan. Experts have warned that the IMF is now, in effect, being used to backstop Chinese debt traps.

So when Kerala Congress mocks India’s resistance to the IMF, it is hard to tell whose side they are on. They appear less concerned about a terror-sponsoring neighbour being bailed out, and more excited to attack a former government economist for daring to think independently.

From Economic Debates To National Interests

One may debate the merits of Dr. Subramanian’s $55 trillion GDP vision or his promotion of terms like “Thalinomics.” But to reduce a decorated economist with a PhD under Congress’ own favourite Raghuram Rajan to a “WhatsApp professor” is not just petty—it is reckless.

He has served with distinction at institutions like the University of Chicago, Emory University, and the Indian School of Business. As CEA, he brought fresh ideas and bold thinking to the table. But more importantly, as India’s Executive Director at the IMF, he represented not just India but also Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Bhutan. Mocking him in such vulgar terms weakens India’s hand in multilateral negotiations. Worse, it validates China-Pakistan talking points.

Opposition Or Sabotage?

It’s time for the Congress party to ask itself a hard question: Is there a line between political opposition and national sabotage? The Kerala unit’s tweet crossed it.

When a party’s official handle starts sounding like it’s being run from the Communist-Islamist quarters of the China-Pakistan propaganda machinery, it is not just bad optics—it is a national security concern.

The Congress high command would do well to rein in such irresponsible messaging. It’s one thing to critique economic policy. It’s another to aid enemy narratives that seek to undermine India’s credibility at global forums.

A Dangerous Pattern

This is not the first time such rhetoric has emerged from Congress-affiliated accounts. Whether it is casting doubt on surgical strikes, questioning the legitimacy of Balakote, or ridiculing India’s diplomatic stands, there is a disturbing pattern of playing into the hands of India’s adversaries. The same handle has also been seen posting fake news not once but several times.

At a time when the global order is rapidly polarizing—with the IMF increasingly seen as a pawn in China’s debt diplomacy—India needs clarity, unity, and maturity in its international engagements.

The Congress needs to decide whether it wants to play the role of a responsible opposition—or remain a propaganda echo chamber for India’s enemies.

India deserves a stronger opposition—one that elevates debate, not one that descends into mockery during moments of international crisis. The Congress’s tweet on Dr. Subramanian isn’t just bad politics. It’s bad for India.

“Residents Being Intimidated With False Cases”, TN BJP Leader Ashvathaman Slams DMK Govt For Harassing Whistleblowers, Failing To Address Corruption In PMAY And Jal Jeevan Mission Welfare Schemes

On 4 May 2025, A. Ashvathaman, the State Secretary of the Tamil Nadu BJP, launched a scathing attack on the DMK government, accusing it of large-scale corruption and misuse of power in implementing key central welfare schemes — the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and the Jal Jeevan Mission.

In his statement, Ashvathaman claimed that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government is working tirelessly to provide housing for all and ensure clean drinking water through these flagship programs, the DMK regime is undermining these efforts through widespread irregularities and malpractice.

Under PMAY, over 2.69 crore houses have been built nationwide, benefitting millions of economically weaker families. However, in Tamil Nadu, the scheme is riddled with corruption, with allocations being manipulated through bribery and political favoritism,” Ashvathaman alleged.

He further charged that bribes ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹15,000 are being demanded even for basic water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Citing a specific instance in the Thiruvelliyangudi Panchayat of Thanjavur district, Ashvathaman pointed to a scam involving the panchayat president, who is reportedly affiliated with the DMK. Despite a directive from the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court to file a criminal case, Ashvathaman said no action has been taken so far.

“Instead of addressing the corruption, residents who have sought justice are being intimidated and slapped with false police cases,” he alleged.

Ashvathaman described these tactics as “anti-democratic” and “authoritarian”, urging the DMK government to stop harassing whistleblowers, uphold the rule of law, and take immediate corrective steps to restore public trust in governance.

The BJP’s accusations come at a time when the party has revived its alliance with the AIADMK after contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections separately.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the BJP-AIADMK alliance won four seats, but in the recent Lok Sabha polls, the DMK-led INDIA bloc swept all the seats. With the alliance now back in place, the BJP is ramping up its opposition campaign against the ruling DMK in anticipation of the 2026 Assembly elections.

Original Excerpts of Ashvathaman’s Statement: “Police intimidating the public who raise complaints against corruption. DMK government’s lawless attitude! In line with the great vision that every citizen in Bharat should be guaranteed a home, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has been implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Under this scheme, many poor, homeless people across the country are receiving financial aid of up to 2.67 lakh to build homes. So far, over 2.69 crore people nationwide have benefited from this scheme and built homes. Similarly, to ensure safe drinking water for everyone, tap water connections are being provided across the country under the Jal Jeevan Mission, another initiative led by the Prime Minister. Under these schemes, the responsibility of selecting beneficiaries lies with the state governments.”

“However, in Tamil Nadu, several irregularities and corrupt practices have been reported in various regions. Bribes are being taken for house allotments, and houses are being allocated based on favoritism. Allegations have surfaced in several areas that bribes ranging from ₹10,000 to 15,000 are being demanded to provide drinking water connections. When the public raises complaints against such corruption, instead of taking action against the guilty, the DMK’s so-called Dravidian model government threatens the complainants with false cases. For instance, in Thiruvalliyangudi Panchayat under Thiruppanandal Union in Thanjavur district, a massive corruption scam was exposed involving the DMK-affiliated Panchayat President in the allocation of homes,” he added.

“The Madurai Bench of the High Court had ordered in 2023 that a case be registered regarding the issue. Since the order was not implemented, a contempt of court petition was filed by the public. The court then issued strict directives to file cases against the involved DMK Panchayat President and officials. Following this, on 07.04.2025, the Thanjavur District Collector ordered that a criminal case be filed against the DMK Panchayat President for illegal home allocation. However, to this day, no case has been filed. Now, when members of the public went to the District Collector demanding justice, 12 of them were threatened with false cases by the police under the DMK regime. This has caused widespread anger among the local people. Even though the High Court has issued repeated orders to file cases against the DMK Panchayat President involved in corruption in the PMAY scheme, the Dravidian model DMK government has failed to take action. Instead, it is intimidating the public who are demanding justice by threatening them with false cases,” he further added.

“This authoritarian behavior raises serious questions about whether rule of law, human rights, and basic rights still exist in Tamil Nadu. Similarly, in M. Agaram village in Virudhachalam, Cuddalore district, when the public questioned why money was being demanded to provide tap water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the police called them to the station and intimidated them severely. People are being threatened with jail and legal cases if they question the corruption in central government schemes like the PMAY or the Jal Jeevan Mission in Tamil Nadu. Using the police to threaten the public with false cases when they question irregularities in central schemes is an anti-democratic trend. This raises the question: Is this a democracy or a dictatorship? The DMK government must immediately stop this dangerous practice of threatening whistleblowers with false cases and must take action on the corruption complaints without delay. All democratic forces must unite to oppose these irregularities,” he further said.
