Why India’s Education System Must Shift Focus From Marks To Skills

For decades, India’s education system has been driven by an obsession with marks and standardised examinations. From board exams to competitive entrance tests, academic performance is measured almost exclusively through a numerical lens. While this has produced a large population of degree-holders, it has not necessarily translated into a skilled and employable workforce. As India strides into an era of technological disruption, economic transformation, and global competition, the time has come to shift our national focus from mere academic scores to practical skills and real-world capabilities.

The Problem with Marks-Driven Learning In most Indian schools and colleges, student performance is measured by how well they can reproduce textbook knowledge in a written exam. This system rewards rote memorization over conceptual understanding, speed over depth, and short-term cramming over long-term learning. The consequences are far-reaching. • Limited Creativity and Critical Thinking: The pressure to score high often curtails creativity.

Students are discouraged from questioning, debating, or exploring alternative solutions. In a marks-centric system, there is little room for curiosity or divergent thinking.

• Mental Health Concerns: The high stakes attached to board exams, entrance tests, and university cut-offs have made academic performance a source of stress and anxiety for millions of students. Depression, burnout, and even suicides linked to exam results are tragically common. • Employability Crisis: A 2023 report by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) found that nearly 50 per cent of Indian graduates are not employable in industry due to lack of skills. Despite high academic scores, many students fail to meet basic requirements in communication, problem-solving, or digital literacy.

• Inequity in Opportunity: A rigid exam-based system tends to favor those with access to coaching centers, private tuitions, and supportive environments. Students from under- privileged backgrounds often fall behind, not due to a lack of intelligence or ambition, but because of structural disadvantages. Global Trends: Skills Over Scores Many leading economies have already begun reorienting their education systems to focus on skills. Finland, consistently ranked among the top in global education indices, emphasizes student well-being, creativity, and collaboration rather than standardized testing. In Germany, the dual education system integrates classroom learning with hands-on vocational training, making graduates highly employable. Even in India, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has acknowledged the need to transition towards holistic, skills-based education. The policy emphasizes critical thinking, experiential learning, and flexibility in subject choices. However, implementation at a scale remains a challenge. What Skills Should Indian Education Prioritize? To align with the future of work, the Indian education system must prioritize a diverse set of cognitive, technical, and socio-emotional skills:

• Digital and Technological Literacy: Foundational knowledge in computing, coding, and digital tools is essential.

• Communication and Collaboration: The ability to express ideas clearly, work in teams, and resolve conflicts.

• Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Analyze information, think independently, and devise practical solutions.

• Creativity and Innovation: Encourage experimentation and original thinking across disciplines.

• Emotional Intelligence: Empathy, resilience, and adaptability are key to navigating the modern world.

• Vocational and Entrepreneurial Skills: Practical training in trades and entrepreneurship can open up alternative career paths. How to Make the Shift: Concrete Steps

• Curriculum Reform: Boards must reduce content overload and include modules on skill-building, coding, and design thinking.

• Assessment Redesign: Move towards application-based assessments, open-book exams, and portfolio evaluations.

• Teacher Training: Equip teachers to deliver experiential, project-based, and interdisciplinary education.

• Industry-Academia Partnerships: Offer students internships, workshops, and real-world exposure through collaborations.

• Technology Integration: Use EdTech platforms to provide accessible, skill-focused education at scale.

• Recognition of Diverse Talents: Broaden entrance and scholarship criteria to reward innovation and creativity.

The Role of Parents and Society Education reforms can only succeed if there is a collective change in mindset. Indian society has traditionally equated marks with success and failure. This attitude needs to evolve. Parents must recognise that a child scoring 70 per cent but excelling in communication and creativity may have greater potential than a 95 per cent scorer with no practical skills. Schools should celebrate diverse talents and redefine what constitutes ”success”.

Media and public discourse can also play a role by highlighting role models who succeeded not because of marks, but because of skills — entrepreneurs, artists, coders, athletes, and social change-makers. India stands at a crucial juncture. With the world’s largest youth population and a rapidly digitizing economy, the opportunity to become a global knowledge leader is within reach.

But this vision cannot be achieved through mark sheets alone. It requires an education system that nurtures thinkers, builders, creators, and leaders. By shifting from a marks-driven to skills-driven paradigm, India can unlock the full potential of its young minds — building not just careers, but a stronger, more resilient, and more inclusive nation. DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran Sends Legal Notice To Brother Kalanithi Maran Over Sun TV Ownership Dispute, Accuses Him Of Fraud And Money Laundering

Dayanidhi Maran, former Union Minister and current DMK MP, has issued a legal notice to his elder brother Kalanithi Maran, highlighting an internal feud within the family that owns Sun TV Network Limited, one of India’s largest media companies.

The notice, dated June 10, 2025, accuses Kalanithi Maran — Chairman of Sun TV and a billionaire media baron — of engaging in alleged fraudulent activities, including financial misconduct and money laundering. It calls for the reinstatement of the company’s shareholding structure to its original format from 2003, invoking the legacy of their father, the late Murasoli Maran, and MK Dayalu, the spouse of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

The legal communication has been addressed not just to Kalanithi, but also to seven others including his wife, Kaveri Maran.

According to Moneycontrol, the document claims that during a period when the Maran patriarch was critically ill in 2003, Kalanithi and Kaveri allegedly devised a plan — with the involvement of others — to secure control of the company. It alleges that on September 15, 2003, Kalanithi illegally allocated 12 lakh shares to himself at a face value of ₹10 each, despite the market value being estimated between ₹2,500–₹3,000 per share at the time. This move, the notice says, gave him a controlling stake in Sun TV while significantly diluting the shares of the original family members.

At the time of the alleged transaction, the company was not in need of capital, raising further questions about the intent behind the allotment. According to the notice, prior to this move, Kalanithi held no shares in the company, but this transaction elevated his ownership dramatically, sidelining the original promoters.

Currently, Kalanithi Maran owns 75% of the listed Sun TV Network and is valued at $2.9 billion. The notice accuses him of benefiting from dividends worth ₹5,926 crore in 2023 and ₹455 crore in 2024 alone.

Dayanidhi Maran now seeks government intervention and has stated his intent to approach the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), claiming the actions in question violate both corporate and criminal laws. He alleges that the difference between the ₹1.2 crore paid for the 12 lakh shares and their actual estimated worth of ₹3,500 crore constitutes criminal proceeds, and further accuses all respondents of laundering this money.

The notice also revisits a past dispute between the Marans and the Karunanidhi family, citing that MK Dayalu’s shares were undervalued and bought out for ₹100 crore despite a significantly higher post-IPO valuation of the company.

It also raises concerns about misleading claims in the company’s 2006 Red Herring Prospectus (RHP), specifically regarding a supposed ₹10.64 crore dividend payment to Mallika Maran — a claim the notice disputes.

In addition, the notice claims the allegedly ill-gotten wealth was used to acquire major assets and companies under the Sun Group umbrella, including Sun Direct TV, Kal Airways, Kal Publications, South Asian FM, Sun Pictures, and even sports franchises like Sunrisers Hyderabad and teams in South Africa and the UK.

The legal demand is for Kalanithi to restore the shareholding to its 2003 structure and return all profits, dividends, assets, and other financial gains accrued since then to the rightful heirs of Murasoli Maran and MK Dayalu.

The notice warns of civil, criminal, and regulatory consequences if these conditions are not met. It also references an earlier legal notice sent in October 2024, which received only a vague reply. Following that, Kalanithi allegedly made a ₹500 crore settlement payment to another sibling, Anbukarasi.

While Moneycontrol has yet to verify whether Kalanithi has formally responded to the latest notice, sources close to the matter suggest this is a private family issue that may not affect Sun TV’s operational affairs.

DMK-Congress Ally Thirumavalavan Rubs Off Vibhuti From His Forehead After Visiting Temple, Had No Qualms Wearing Skullcap

thirumavalavan skullcap vibhuti vck mp

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thol. Thirumavalavan has stirred controversy after a video surfaced showing him wiping off vibhuti (sacred ash) from his forehead just as a couple approached him for a selfie. This appeared to be a calculated act of political optics—though he had earlier accepted vibhuti and a sacred garland during his temple visit, he deliberately wiped off the vibhuti in front of the cameras, seemingly to avoid being seen as aligned with Hindu traditions.

The move has been described by many as hypocritical, given that Thirumavalavan had openly participated in rituals at the Murugan temple in Thirupparankundram, considered the deity’s first abode—on 19 June 2025. Photos shared on his own social media accounts show him wearing the vibhuti as he offered prayers.

The public act of wiping off the vibhuti has drawn criticism from various quarters, with many accusing Thirumavalavan of attempting to distance himself from Hindu symbolism for political or ideological gain but while during the same visit to Thiruparankundram, he proceeded to the nearby Sikkandar Hill dargah, where members of the Muslim community warmly received him and placed a skullcap on his head – an act he accepted with a smile.

Critics have labelled this as an example of selective secularism and hypocrisy, arguing that true secularism means either staying equidistant from all religions or treating them equally. Appeasing one religious group while dismissing or disrespecting another, they say, amounts to political opportunism that risks alienating the sentiments of the Hindu community.

“If I Had Power, TASMAC Would Be Open 24 Hours, Drink And Die, You’re A Waste To The Country”, Says Former DMK MLA Nellikuppam Pugazhenthi At Party Event Showcasing 4 Yrs Of Dravidian Model Govt Achievements

dmk tasmac

Former DMK MLA Nellikuppam Pugazhenthi has stirred controversy with his recent remarks, stating, “If I had the power, I would keep TASMAC open 24 hours a day.” He further added, “Let those who drink and die, die—we will govern with the rest.” His comments have drawn sharp criticism, especially in light of ongoing protests across Tamil Nadu led by women and social activists who argue that state-run liquor outlets (TASMAC) are destroying families—creating young widows, leaving children orphaned, and deeply harming future generations.

Pugazhenthi’s statement shocked many as he claimed the DMK’s earlier promise to ban liquor contributed to their electoral defeat—suggesting the party lost support due to that stance.

These remarks came during a DMK-organized event in South Pammal, held to mark the 102nd birth anniversary of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and to highlight the achievements of the DMK government over the past four years.

Speaking at the event he said, “Who is to blame for us losing the last election and not coming to power? We are the reason. You ask why? We should have just kept our mouths shut in the last election. Our Thalapathy announced, ‘As soon as we come to power, the first thing we will do is shut down the TASMAC shops.’ We thought that as soon as he said this, all the mothers of Tamil Nadu would unite. They’d think that ‘My father drinks, my brother drinks, my uncle drinks, my brother-in-law drinks… and these people are saying they’ll close the liquor shops! and calculated that they would all vote for us en masse. But do you know what all the drinkers did instead?

They turned the TASMAC shop itself into the campaign quarters! The salesmen and the supervisors there became the main campaign messengers. Imagine our guy going to the shop. The moment he hands over the cash, the salesman tells him bluntly, “Listen, today is the last day. After this, there’s no more.” Our guy looked at him and asked, “What is it? We can survive without food, but how can we possibly live without our booze? What are you saying?” He replied, “Today is the last day, hereafter there is no more.” Then, they closed the shops three days before the election. All the drinkers were sitting around in the morning, asking each other, “Macha, do you have anything left over?” and he replied, “I just finished the last bit this morning, I don’t have a drop myself!” They immediately got together and made a decision, “If this is our situation after just three days, imagine what will happen if these guys come to power and shut the shops permanently! What will we do?” So, all the drinkers joined together, changed their votes, and that’s how we lost. We lost power. So, in this election, many people asked us, “So, will you be closing the shops this time?” We just kept our mouths shut. They’d ask, “Any opinion on the matter?” We didn’t open our mouth.”

He added, “Now, this is not the opinion of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). This is not the opinion of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thalapathy M.K. Stalin. This is my personal opinion, Nellikuppam Pugazhenthi. If I had the power… I wouldn’t even say open TASMAC at 12 in the afternoon and close at 10 at night. 24-hours open! No holding back for anyone.”

Later said, “And why would I make it 24-hours-open? Because you are a waste to the country anyway. Go ahead, drink for 24 hours and die. We’ll run the government with the (people) who are left over.”

“Stalin Govt Running At Rocket Speed Is The Truth & Not A Myth Like Kamba Ramayanam”, Says DMK Minister Govi Chezhian

kamba ramayanam govi chezhian stalin dmk

Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister Govindan Nedunchezhian, referred to as Govi Chezhian, stirred controversy on Tuesday after claiming that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led government under Chief Minister MK Stalin was “running at rocket speed” and contrasting it with what he called the “myth” of Kamba ramayanam (the Tamil retelling of the Ramayana).

The remarks were made during the third phase of the Chief Minister’s Scheme outreach camp held in seven panchayats—including Papakovil, Kurichi, Prathaparamapuram, and Thirukuvalai—in the Kilvelur Assembly constituency of Nagapattinam district. The event was presided over by District Collector Akash and attended by Kilvelur MLA Nagai Mali and Tamil Nadu Fish Development Corporation Chairman Gauthaman.

Addressing the gathering at Kurichi Panchayat Union Middle School, Minister Chezhian praised the Stalin administration for its efficiency. Citing a petition received earlier that day from a differently-abled woman named Venkateswari, he said the government acted swiftly to provide her with a wheelchair. “The petition was received in the right hand, evaluated with the left, and resolved with the right again,” he quipped.

He continued: “Chief Minister Stalin is running a government that once crawled at a snail’s pace at rocket speed. This is not a myth like Kamba ramayanam, it is the truth.”

The Minister’s comparison of the revered Tamil literary epic to a myth has sparked criticism from various quarters, with some accusing him of denigrating Hindu religious and cultural heritage. Opposition leaders and cultural groups have demanded a clarification or retraction of the statement.

It is noteworthy that DMK patriarch Karunanidhi once famously asked which engineering college Lord Rama studied in to have been able to build the Ram Sethu. These comments by the DMK minister seem to be following their leader’s path.

Madras High Court Halts HR&CE Construction Projects On Sri Nellaiappar Temple Lands Citing Violation Of Supreme Court Ruling

madras high court construction projects hrce nellaiappar temple

In a major victory for temple worshippers and public interest litigants, the First Division Bench of the Madras High Court has ordered an immediate halt to all ongoing and proposed civil construction projects by the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department that are in violation of binding judicial precedents.

The order came in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by temple activist and president of the Temple Worshippers Society, TR Ramesh. The petition challenged a Government Order (G.O.) permitting the construction of a shopping complex on the sacred lands of the historic Sri Nellaiappar Temple in Tirunelveli.

Advocate B. Jagannath, appearing for the petitioner, argued that such constructions directly violate the landmark judgment of the Madras High Court in the Sri Nandeeswarar Temple case, which was recently affirmed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in May 2025.

Senior Counsel Satish Parasaran and Advocate Niranjan represented the petitioner in various matters, highlighting that multiple ongoing projects across Tamil Nadu are in contempt of this ruling and involve misuse of temple funds exceeding ₹1,000 crore.

The Bench, expressing serious concern, questioned why the HR&CE Department continues to bring forward construction proposals despite clear legal prohibitions. It directed the state government to maintain status quo on all such constructions and asked the department to file its counter-affidavit within three weeks. The next hearing is scheduled for 24 July 2025.

Senior Government Pleader Arun Natarajan, appearing for the HR&CE Department, opposed the plea but sought time to respond.

This interim order effectively halts large-scale commercial and civil projects being funded by temple wealth, ensuring that no further construction proceeds without legal scrutiny. Activists hailed the verdict as a significant safeguard for the sanctity and resources of Hindu temples.

Meet IIT Bombay’s Humanities Dept Professor Suryakant Waghmore Who Mocked Hindus, Called Vegetarianism “Casteist” & A “Social Illness”

iit bombay suryakant waghmore vegetarian militant casteist social illness vegetarianism

Professor Suryakant Waghmore, a faculty member in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B), has found himself at the center of mounting controversy over a series of public remarks, political commentary, and alleged ideological bias that critics say violate institutional norms and offend religious sentiments.

On 12 June 2025, IIT-B issued a formal show-cause notice to Prof. Waghmore for publishing a politically charged op-ed in the Times of India without obtaining prior clearance from the institute, as mandated under Schedule B, Paragraph 5(ii) of IIT-B’s code of conduct. The article, titled “Mumbai’s Big Cash Polls”, included his official designation and focused on the upcoming BMC elections. Instead of responding to the administration, Prof. Waghmore publicized the memo on social media, captioning it: “Another struggle for reforming the IIT system begins!”

Who Is Suryakant Waghmore?

Suryakant Waghmore is an Associate Professor of Sociology at IIT Bombay. His stated research interests include social exclusion, caste and violence, Dalit politics, institutional deprivation, and “Hinduism” — often framed through a highly critical and ideological lens.

His bio says, “My research has encompassed a mixed method approach to study social exclusion, politics at margins, policy processes and state-civil society relations. I have been using ethnography, with other qualitative research methods and descriptive statistics to underline how social exclusion operates in India. Ethnography has helped me keep my research outcomes nuanced. For instance while studying caste, I have focused on aspects of emotions – humour and anger to theorise caste better. This has helped me frame broader theoretical arguments on vernacular modernity in Indian subcontinent.

On the other hand I have also done policy relevant research that has helped corporations and state bodies. I have completed a research on Katkaris, one of the most vulnerable tribal groups in Maharashtra. While working with govt. and non-government development agencies over the years, I closely observed the influence of cultural politics on development processes and how state and non-state actors converge and disperse to institutionalize deprivation. This interface of culture, state and social exclusion processes has continued to be a major area of my research interest.

My research also explores social movements of traditionally marginalised groups and their attempts of achieving genuine civility and democracy in the Indian context. Current research interest includes a focus on changing forms of caste etiquette in modern India.”

Let’s take a look at his various ‘achievements’!

Mocking Hindus

Controversy has long followed Waghmore, whose social media posts and public interviews regularly attack vegetarianism and Hindu practices. In a widely circulated post, he wrote, “I am hoping to be pure vegetarian in next life. Hope to have an arranged marriage, take dowry, drink cow urine, vote for BJP and attack Muslims. This life is dedicated to Ambedkarism.”

The comment, interpreted by many as mocking vegetarians, arranged marriages, and Hindu customs, prompted backlash, with users questioning whether such stereotyping is acceptable for an academic in a taxpayer-funded institution.

Mocking Hindu Practices And Promoting Anti-India Narratives

Waghmore’s disdain for Hindu traditions is well-documented. He once compared a PhD in humanities to “not drinking cow urine for cancer cure,” mocking Hindu beliefs.

He posted a photo from Europe with the caption, “Somewhere in Europe where… no one wears a sacred thread, no one takes dowry… where 94% of the population does not have arranged marriages, where women are not disallowed in kitchens and temples during their periods. Shall I go on?”

His research paper “The Dominant Victim” argues that upper-caste Hindus claim “imagined victimhood” to overshadow Dalit struggles.

Attacking Vegetarian Students As “Militant” And “Casteist”

Waghmore has been at the center of multiple controversies regarding mess policies at IIT Bombay. In 2023, when vegetarian students (many of them Jains) requested six dedicated tables out of 129 in the common mess, Waghmore called them “militant” and accused them of enforcing “purity-pollution practices.” He supported a student, Abhishek Mali, who deliberately ate non-vegetarian food at vegetarian-designated tables in protest. Mali was fined ₹10,000, but Waghmore condemned the penalty as “disgraceful.”

In an interview, Waghmore claimed, “Vegetarianism is violent. Because you prevent your children from being exposed to the sight and smell of meat, which is attractive.”

Critics have pointed out the hypocrisy in his stance—while he opposes separate vegetarian tables, halal food restrictions remain unchallenged on campus as also there being separate food and tables during Ramadan.

Alleged Bias In Academic Conduct

In 2024, IIT Bombay’s PhD entrance exam included a question on Hindutva, which many saw as an attempt to screen out Hindu applicants.

When students protested, Waghmore mocked them by posting a video of himself dancing, further fueling accusations of unprofessionalism.

It is noteworthy that Waghmore had deleted his X account after these incidents came to light. Given his repeated pattern of controversial, politically charged, and frequently anti-Hindu commentary, many are now asking: How is someone like this employed at a premier technical institution funded by Indian taxpayers?

Professors at IIT Bombay apart from Suryakant Waghmore such as Anupam Guha have come under public scrutiny for their politicized commentary, ideological bias, and controversial conduct. Guha, an outspoken communist and activist, has supported figures like Hamas sympathizer Megha Vemuri and backed protests such as the anti-Sterlite agitation and anti-CAA marches, often promoting leftist and separatist narratives. He is linked to radical groups like The Collective and Kosambi Circle and has criticized national policies including Article 370’s abrogation. Additionally, a PhD scholar at the institute, Adarsh Priyadarshi, faces allegations of sexual misconduct, raising concerns about unchecked ideological networks and lack of accountability within the campus.

P.S: Waghmore’s X account was unavailable/hidden at the time of publishing this article leading us to the conclusion that he may have deleted the account. His X account is now available.

Maharashtra: Pregnant Hindu Woman Dies By Suicide Amid Alleged Pressure To Convert To Christianity By Husband & In-Laws

pregnant hindu woman maharashtra suicide

A distressing case has emerged from Kupwad in Maharashtra’s Sangli district, where a 27-year-old, four-month pregnant Hindu woman has died by suicide. Authorities are investigating allegations that she was subjected to relentless mental and physical harassment by her husband and in-laws, who were pressuring her to convert to Christianity.

The woman, identified as Rutuja Rajge, reportedly took her own life on 6 June 2025. According to a police complaint filed by her father, the groom’s family had presented themselves as Hindus from the Dhangar caste before the wedding. However, Rutuja allegedly discovered they were practicing Christians who had abandoned Hindu customs.

The complaint details a campaign of sustained coercion that began soon after the marriage, involving her husband, in-laws, and a local pastor. Rutuja reportedly told her father she was scolded for following Hindu traditions and was forced to attend prayer services with the aim of compelling her to formally convert.

Following her death, a case was registered at the Kupwad MIDC Police Station. The incident has sparked public outcry, with activists holding a protest in Sangli to demand justice for Rutuja and the enforcement of state-level anti-conversion laws.

This case is highlighted as one example of a wider, often underreported issue involving alleged “crypto-converts.” Similar incidents have been recently reported from other states:

  • In Madhya Pradesh, a bride named Sangeeta reportedly called off her wedding after learning that her soon-to-be in-laws were practicing Christians. Deeply rooted in her Hindu beliefs, Sangeeta said she would not have agreed to the marriage had she known about their religious background earlier. Following the incident, the groom’s family is said to have undergone a re-conversion to Hinduism in an effort to resolve the situation and address the bride’s concerns.
  • In Uttarakhand, a Sikh man Jaideep Singh, filed a case against his Christian in-laws for similar conversion pressure.
  • In Chhattisgarh, a 30-year-old tailor Linesh Sahu, took his own life in December 2024, leaving a WhatsApp status attributing his suicide to conversion pressure from his Christian in-laws and his wife.

The first public bus stop in Ward 134, Arya Gowda Road, has been inaugurated with a prominent image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, drawing attention for its political branding. The structure was built using the local area development funds of BJP councillor Uma Anandan, the party’s sole elected representative in the Greater Chennai Corporation.

Anandan shared an image of the newly constructed bus shelter on her official X (formerly Twitter) handle, highlighting it as a contribution made through her councillor development fund. “The first bus stop in Ward 134, Arya Gowda Road, Chennai with our Hon’ble Prime Minister’s picture. Built out of my councillor fund,” she posted.

The bus stop comes amid ongoing efforts by local BJP leaders to expand the party’s visibility and presence in the state capital, where the BJP remains a strong yet minor force compared to the dominant Dravidian parties.

Congress Shares Post Depicting PoK As Part Of Pakistan, Deletes It Following Backlash

congress pok pakistan

The Congress party found itself at the center of a fresh controversy after sharing a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on 18 June 2025, that featured a map of Pakistan including Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) — a territory legally claimed by India. The post, intended to criticize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy, included the caption, “Narendra Modi has ruined the foreign policy”, alongside a video depicting the disputed map.

The use of the map sparked widespread outrage, with critics accusing Congress of promoting anti-national sentiments and aligning with Pakistani narratives. Many called it a serious lapse in judgment, alleging the party was indirectly endorsing Pakistan’s territorial claims. Following intense backlash from political opponents and the public alike, the Congress deleted the post without offering an immediate explanation.

The incident has added to the party’s recent struggles, with the BJP and other political voices demanding accountability and clarification over “highly irresponsible act.”
